  • How to fix a bad ground issue that causes taillight and clearance light issues. The lights on my ice house were dim and sometimes didn't work at all. I had a severe voltage drop and was reading 7v at the lights.
This is a very common problem with Ice Castles, so hopefully, this will help you fix your issue without having to pay a shop a few hundred dollars to do it. Follow along, learn something, and save yourself some money! :) Any questions, just ask & I'll try to help!

My gosh! All that for a ground wire!! Bad design is an understatement! I just picked up a 2013 Toy Hauler Castle, so I’m watching all you videos that I can! Great videos by the way!

Thanks! I agree! A simple ring terminal probably would have prevented that problem in the first place. I hope you don't have the troubles I had with mine. I bought it from the original owner & they were not aware of axle maintenance or any of the common issues they have.
Good luck on the ice this year & thanks for watching! :)

Thanks for the heads up. I have just started experiencing problems with my 2017 Castle with taillights and GFCI outlets inside.

You’re welcome! This is most likely the problem with your taillights. I’ve read that the GFCI issues are usually the GFCI itself. Hopefully it’ll be that simple for you!
      Thanks for watching! :)

@@EndlessDIY Yep, I've read several posts on social media that Ice Castle purchases bulk cheap GFCI's and that if I simply purchase the $18-$20 outlets to replace it should take care of the problem. I'm literally watching your video on insulating ice hole covers! :)

@@bayneski1 Ha! Great! I've taken some heat for not just using spray foam on them, but I had the sheet insulation scraps on hand so it kept it out of the landfill (less messy, too)! lol!

When the frame pieces are cut to size they are placed in a jig and clamped into position. When welded together the seams are not welded watertight. So when the house is set on the ice and water comes around the frame water enters the tube.

Thanks for the insight! I'd never have thought of that. :)

Great info wheres all the water in the frame coming from? Condensation you think?

Good question. I really don’t know. I have read that a lot of people have the same problem with water being in there but no one really says where it comes from. I have no leaks and I don’t have a water package in my house, so I really don’t know.

Wow, think the Ice Castle designer's could improved that area development!!! Like maybe a common grounding bar for all the electrical or even the light's grounds ran to one spot by the hitch where a person can get at them easily??? I can't believe all the water in the frame let alone that it was enough moisture to cause your ground wire to already start to erode. I always put Silicone around all my new wire connection's just to prevent moisture from getting in and causing corrosion. I would of made or pushed Ice Castle to fix that problem if still under warranty.

It’s definitely less than ideal. Even if they had to ground them the way they did, just that extra little bit of hardware probably would have made all the difference.
Ice Castle doesn’t build their frames, so they can’t really be faulted for the water issue, but the current makers have addressed the problem.
My ice house is a 2013, & it’s way out of warranty so I’m just glad I can do the things that I can do or it’d cost me a mint to keep my stuff working the way I do; I can’t stand when stuff doesn’t work properly.
