Cass Elliot is a fine example of someone who was respected for the person she was as well as her talent. By her peers that is. Denny didn't want her around and there were others who only saw something to poke fun at making themselves look better by belittling Cass. For my money Cass is one of the era's better singers. Same class as Linda Ronstadt and Streisand. One of her peers was Joplin and as popular as she was and still is she really didn't have the kind of singing talent Cass, Linda or Babs had. I guess what I'm trying to say is that for as much gossip that goes around the fact of the matter is, it was a very accepting time. If someone had "something to say" others listened regardless of social barriers or preconceived notions. Before judging. Denny got hip too. I also recall many people saying the ham sandwich story wasn't crediable at the time or soon afterwards but it stuck. West Coast Promo men doing what they do best. She left on a jet plane (dit dit dit dit dit) making her own kind of music. I have 'Fat Angel" on more than one 60's playlist. Once again, nice presentation. Thank You
What a coincidence that Sharon and Jay were at that party when Charlie was there. When he orchestrated the goings-on at Cielo Drive, he wasn't even aware that Sharon lived there. He only picked that house because Terry Melcher had lived there. Btw, the plural of "hanger-on" is "hangers-on" and Zappa's daughter's name is just Moon. Unit is her middle name.
What an interesting and informative piece. Cass had such a beautiful voice and unfortunately didn't live long enough to have her talent fully appreciated on her own merits. Hard to believe that she died fifty years ago. She was an incredible social lynchpin especially in the Laurel Canyon days when everyone lived close by or came to visit and had such an influence on the musical culture of the era that someone needs to write a book about it. I had no idea that she had put John Sebastion and Zal Yanofsky together - and I knew Zal !! (we shared a lawyer).
The ham sandwich story & Rod Stewart having his stomach pumped have been around for years & its good to see one finally debunked. Interesting how Manson consistently sneaks into stories of the era.
Cass was an amazing singer, and from what I've read she was smart, funny, and the best friend ever.
💯
She really did!! She went way to young!! To sad!!
I loved Mamma Case, she was a great singer❤🎉❤
She was!! Great voice and personality

Yea I’m glad she got to the bottom of that one. I agree I had no ideas how much he infiltrated that scene.
The Rod Stewart rumor/lie was a revenge attempt by an ex-publicist whom Rod had fired.
Manson sneaking around was Creepy and
Incredibly dangerous !
