- When it comes to making CNC projects, either with a CNC router or CNC laser, sometimes our own opinions can get in the way. This will cost you opportunities to make money with your CNC machine. A successful business requires the owner to set aside many of their opinions and feelings, especially when your CNC business is new.
At times when emotional energy is high, and people have strong feelings about something, it is the best time to make money with your CNC. People are going to find a way to express their position anyway. We might as well make money that they will spend in one way or another.
Political CNC projects during elections is a great way to make some extra cash.

Here's a thought... "Cashing in on controversy" may certainly be a way to build a business and a reputation--but it may not end up being the kind of reputation you want your business to have (e.g. "they'll make anything just to make a quick buck").

I think he's right. That's just my personal opinion. And believe me I do have some strong feelings about it ... I just don't think that these things should take priority over economic activity. On the other hand, we do live in a very strongly polarized cancel culture. So if there's someone who absolutely refuses a job for those reasons, I would totally understand that. It is hard to pass up an opportunity to cancel someone who has been cancelling others for so many years. However ... cancelling people is so profoundly stupid and toxic that you might not want to engage in it even if it is the proper thing to do. Really a tough question.

I'm glad you said within limits. I'm a christian and would not make prochoice signs though as I could not live with my conscience that my product was promoting legalized death.

A very successful business man once told me that when in business, keep religion and politics out of the conversation because EVERYONE is a potential customer. It has worked well for me….even when sometimes you have to bite your lip😊

I don't think its that easy and very dependent on how emotionally charged the market is. I have seen a number of businesses destroyed from the perception of alignment on one of these situations. Each side thinks your aligned with the other and you become everyone's enemy. It doesn't matter what is true and it only matters what is perceived. Short term you could make a lot of money but long term you could damage your customer base is the danger.
I often look at what the bigger more experienced companies do and I think what you see is they stay clear of charged issues. They know the risk is the loss of 80% of their client base. What is true doesn't matter to a charged person what is perceived matters.
Now that risk can be mitigated as many of the companies that make these types of products are always "fly by night" companies. Diverting risks to an alternate temporary entity.

For me when I make a product for a customer I make a connection demonstrate support and exchange appreciation. However in this scenario I would be unable to demonstrate support make a connection or show appreciation for one of the two so I would politely pass on the order. 👍

I completely disagree. Because as soon as you go down that road ON EITHER SIDE you're going to immediately alienate the other. And frankly I don't have the stomach for either or polotics in general. And I've willingly turned away politically charged items because AS A BUSINESS OWNER I've decided that it's not worth the hassle. Now if you are out just to make a buck, be my guest, but I have final decision in what I do.

I've been making TRUMP wall hanging bottle openers and sell the heck out them...in an urber democratic city! TRUMP works because it's a worldwide recognized trademark. One guy stopped to tell me how I'm turning customers away, and I told this item happens to be my best seller. We parted nicely, and I continue to "cash in on it."
