Glad to see this! Halo 2's writing is phenomenal, there are tons of subtle storytelling details that you only notice on repeat playthroughs. I'll point some out (along with some into about cut content) here with timestamps, while also making sure to be as spoiler free as possible for anything that ties into future games! JC was with you so he already pointed some of these out, but even he apparently didn't know about all of these. 41:20: Tsutomu Nihei, the famous manga author known for "Blame!" and "Knights of Sidonia" actually worked on an official Halo Comic called "Breaking Quarantine" which shows how Johnson escaped the flood in Halo CE. It's only around 15 pages and gorgeously illustrated, look it up! 43:22: Chief is arriving at a ceremony to honor his actions and get medals for the events of Halo 1, wheras the Arbiter is being punished and branded. Thematic contrast! 55:50 and 59:40: You can see the Malta and Athens stations being blown up. You happened to catch both of these, but a lot of players don't the first time through. 1:04:07: You walked past Johnson and Miranda too fast, but had you stuck around, Miranda would have then followed up on what Johnson said by noting " "I was almost on board when they showed up.", which ties into... 1:05:43 : You can see Miranda's Ship, the "In Amber Clad", docked in the space station. It's the parts made out of the darker metal and with the "FFG142" numerals on it, 1:08:20: The moving machinery in front of you is the Mac Cannon Johnson was talking about at 42:20, if you looked up you could have seen the barrel recoiling and firing. 1:09:16: If you look at the top right of the screen here, you can see the Prophet of Regret's carrier fly by in the background, which is why Cortana says "The first carrier completely ignored us, Sir! Blew right through the Malta's debris field and headed straight for Earth! 1:11:25: This cutscene replaces a cut mission where you, Miranda, and a team of ODST's would have boarder this carrier and blown it up from the inside by shelling the ship's core with a Wraith's mortar. 1:15:50 Both this and the "Another Day at the Beach" cutscene you watched at 10:09:11 take place at the same time, it's juist this cutscene/the mission and "Another Day at the Beach" follow different crashed Pelicans. 1:39:08: Miranda mentions the Carrier "launched a a wave of pods", and at 1:39:26 you can see pods crashing down, though you didn't notice at the time. 1:47:52 : you actually put two and two together but a lot of people don't realize it was the Scarab walker from the cutscene at the start of the mission that fires the beam and walks by if you look from below. 2:22:36 and 2:23:00 Tartarus glaring at the Elite honor guards as he passes by, and him going "But, I thought?" to Truth is forshadowing what we see later where Truth and Tartarus had conspired to massacre the Elites and put the Brutes in power 2:24:18: Notice how Truth cuts the transmission right before he would have said "The Great Journey is a Lie!" 2:25:55: Easy to miss detail, but you can see the Phantom the Arbiter and Shipmaster are on are flying right by the broken Halo ring from Halo 1. That's because these first two Arbiter missions take place on a Forerunner gas collection facility on the Gas Giant the Halo Ring was orbiting around, which is also why Guilty Spark was able to fly from the Halo ring to the facility between Halo 1 and 2. 2:34:04 An elite here says "Sentinels, the holy warriors of the Sacred Rings. Why have they sided with these Heretics?", forshadowing that Guilty Spark is working with the Heretics. 2:34:10: The ship in the middle of this room is a Seraph space fighter, which then the Shipmaster mentions the Heretic leader is going to try to escape with next mission at 32:00:00 and you catch him right as he's about to get into it at 3:59:52 2:46:20: The music that plays here when in old graphics (which you didn't listen to much) is actually a song from Incubus, because Halo 2 is just that much of a mid 2000's game. CONTINUED IN A REPLY BELOW
CONTINUED FROM ABOVE: 4:37:08: If you hang around that Hologram of the Prophet of Regret long enough, it'll say "In a gesture of peace and reconciliation, the Prophets promised to find the means of the Forerunners' transcendence, and to share this knowledge with the Elites. The Elites promised to defend the Prophets as they searched. A simple arrangement, that has become our binding Covenant!" 5:26:45 : If you went up to that giant hologram of regret and stared at it long enough, it'd have said: Most of those we encountered in our search were compelled to join our Union. To take part in moment of promise, Freedom for Allegiance, Salvation for Service! But some, like the Humans, chose to impede our progress. Block our access to sacred sites, damage Holy Relics! For their transgressions, the Humans shall be hunted until none remain alive!" 5:29:10: Cortana's dialog here forshadows some stuff later in the game, namely the "Killing Regret should shake up the Covenant leadership. But frankly, it sounds like you might be doing Truth a favor." bit. Then, at 5:43:50 Cortana mentions here that High Charity launched a wave of Phantoms to catch you... but at 5:54:28 Cortana says that they called the Phantoms back, and are just going to glass the temple directly. Finally, in the opening cutscene of the next mission, at 5:55:59 and 5:56:28 we see that Truth has used Regret's death to replace the Elites with the Brutes, and the Shipmaster's statement at 5:56:25 shows that it was by Truth's own orders that the phantoms were called off. In other words, Truth LET Chief kill Regret by withdrawing the phantoms so he could then put the Brutes in power. 5:30:42: Hey, you actually caught the extra dialog on the last hologram! 5:42:20: Glad you caught the fleet in the sky here! 5:58:01: Here, Mercy and Truth talk about how Guilty Spark has told them about "The Sacred Icon" to "Start the Great Journey", but we know that Guilty Spark has no problems telling the Covenant what the Halo rings really do, since he told the Heretics that, and explictly says he dislikes the "inaccurate verbage" the Covenant uses at 4:01:08 so if the Prophets really spoke to Guilty Spark, then they must know more then they're letting on... 6:08:21, you disable the same shield around the Library complex that Miranda mentioned was blocking her and Johnson from accessing the library at 5:39:26. You can even see the shield dissapite in the sky at 6:08:55... which is why at 6:09:39, you see Flood Combat forms, from infected marines, show up, as you allowed Miranda/Johnson's marines to get inside and get infected! (you even see hear/see some at 6:12:33). This also shows why the shield/the sentinel construction facility the mission takes place in was built around the Library (You can even see the Library in the distance at 6:21:36, I think JC got confused and thought the Library was something else, hence him being coy), to keep the flood outbreak at the Library contained, but more on that further down... 6:22:58: You actually caught the Forerunner floating facility getting shot down in the sky here, but what you DIDN'T catch is that this then becomes the burning wreckage you move through at 6:44:16 in the next mission, "Quarantine Zone" an aptly titled mission being you crossing the Quarantined Zone between the shield/sentinel wall the l;ast mission took place in, and the Library complex itself, which you finally arrive at at 7:13:56 after the Gondola section, which is why the hallways at __ look just like the Library from Halo 1. 7:03:07: If you look carefully, you can actually see Miranda's ship here in the distance, showing where she and Johnson landed. At certain points on the Gondola ride, you can see her and Johnson on the other Gondola off to the right, a bit ahead of you, since they had launched their Gondola earlier then you in the cutscene at 6:02:08 7:15:50: This cable Miranda grabs onto was originally a Gravemind tentacle in the original graphics, as it was Bungie's intent to have Gravemind tentacles scattered throughout the game and cutscenes manipulating things behind the scenes, here you see it tries to drop Miranda inside the same pit the Gravemind is below once she grabs the Index. 7:18:24: Originally this cutscene with the Gravemind (and the Gondola section of the last mission) was supposed to be a cut mission "Forerunner Tank", where Master Chief and The Arbiter would be on two sides of a moving Forerunner machine as the Gravemind's tentacles crashed down around you and he spoke to you. Also, the Gravemind being revealed here explains why the Flood was able to drive vehicles last mission such as you noticed at 6:33:57 : the Flood is actually being intelligently controlled here by it instead of them acting on instict, which also further stresses why the energy shield you disabled was necessary. 7:21:51: It's hard to make out in the new graphics cutscene, but in original graphics, you can see the ships around high charity firing at each other, since the Covenant civil war was starting. 8:13:05: JC mentioned the music during this section, and how it's a Breaking Benjamin licensed track ("Blow me Away") like the Incubus one from earlier, but I don't think he noted that's only during in the old graphics, it's a different rock track in the new graphics. 8:18:18: Again, impressed you caught this line from the dying elite, and the lines at 8:21:20 from the Spec Ops elite. You did miss the Elite drop pods that then fly down behind you in the previous area to give you renforcements though. 9:18:00: originally there was a Warthog run here like in the ending of Halo 1, where you'd drive a warthog across energy bridges and the energy conduit chief flies through in the cutscene, to reach the Forerunner ship. Modders have actually restored that warthog run, you can see youtube videos of what it would have looked like. There may have also been another cut mission of you fighting through that Forerunner ship, it's a little unclear in dev commentaries... and of course, the whole third act of the game, with another 3 missions were also cut from the very end of the game after the last misison after this.
Also, something I forgot above: Johnson's speech at 1:55:00 changes based on difficulty, as JC says, I'll list each other difficulty out below: Easy: You had your chance to be afraid before you joined my beloved Corps. But to guide you back to the true path, I brought this motivational device. Our big green style cannot be defeated!" Normal: "The Chief is gonna jump in this tank, roll across the bridge, and blow up any inhuman-son-of-a-bitch dumb enough to get between him and the Prophet of Regret! Pull yourself together, because you're going with him!" Legendary: "Usually the good Lord works in mysterious ways. But not today! This here is sixty-six tons of straight up, H-E-spewing dee-vine intervention! If God is love, then you can call me Cupid!"
9 hours in, this has to be the BEST blind playthrough of a cult classic game I've ever seen. Playing the game respectfully, trying to have a normal intended experience, with just the right amount of silliness, paying attention to story beats and being so engaged the whole time. You and JC were so perfect, got me to watch the entire video straight! Halo 2 is a game that means the world to me, and since I've watched you both for years this video was such a treat! I'm glad you're getting into Halo, in a perfect way no less, and JC is getting to relive all these great memories. Can't wait for Halo 3 :D
This is my favorite Halo campaign. The three year wait to Halo 3 were the longest years of my life seemingly. We had SO many theories of what may happen in Halo 3. The hype was unlike anything else!
As someone who has played Halo since '04 when Halo 2 came out, it makes me so happy to see new people being introduced to these amazing games and loving them! Can't wait to watch you get through Halo 3, it's such an amazing conclusion to the trilogy!
In the Gravemind/High Charity missions, you actually pass through basically every High Charity cutscene location. The opening to Gravemind (first Brute encounter, "Boo" cutscene) is the courtroom from the Halo 2 opening cinematic, the part with the first Brute Captain (Brute Shot introduction, the lift that safely sends you below, Cortana says "step right in") is where Arbiter got branded, the place that you free the Marines from is the jail that Arbiter was dragged through on the way to the Mausoleum of the Arbiter, which speaking of The final room in Gravemind IS the Mausoleum, where the Arbiter was taken to receive that title and his armor. In High Charity the Prophets' Inner Sanctum, the room where there's an energy sword lying on a table with a window overlooking Delta Halo (it was right after the place where you made a comment about liking the original graphics atmosphere in the dark misty room), that's where the Arbiter was briefed on his mission to retrieve the Sacred Icon, the "exchange of hats" scene I definitely missed some but I think those examples alone are just so damn neat EDIT: I think the area outside of the Mausoleum of the Arbiter is where you see Grunts and Jackals rioting in the Gravemind opening cutscene, the "Boo" one, as well as those dark murky rooms in High Charity before the Prophets' Inner Sanctum being the rooms that Arbiter walks through on his way to the Inner Sanctum in the Sacred Icon cutscene, where you see Brutes taking the Honor Guard gear from the Elites
I think the first room is more like the houses of Parliament on the UK (the design is similar aswell) rather than a courtroom and the arbiter is only being judged there because of the severity of the mistake.
I love this so so much, being someone that watched you guys religiously during BO2-3 zombies, im not gonna lie I kinda stopped watching because im just not as interested in zombies anymore, but you guys playing this came out of left field and I couldn't be happier that Milo is actually enjoying the games, I hope you enjoy halo 3, that was the game I started on and I think its a game. my personal favorites are 2,3 and oddest. they have the best stories, and tie ins from oust is icing on the cake. ill be here watching every stream from start to finish, now Milo, starts your great journey :)
hey milo, whatever season points you have, you should purchase reach armor so you can customize your character for the campaign since the spartan you play as in the campaign is your multiplayer spartan.
Him trying to figure out the gravemind is the flood for like 10 minutes and then figuring everything about the flood out after is hilarious. How can you be so good and bad with lore at the same time?!
To be fair, the remaster makes it less obvious. In original graphics there's gravemind tentacles in the library, and in the cutscene there's green fog coming out of his mouth and all around him. In the remaster the replaced gravemind tentacles with steel cables and made the gravemind more streamlined, not spitting green fog, and less like a writhing mass of bodies. To a first time player it would be a lot more obvious in original graphics.
8:52:08 actually the Gravemind doesn't care if the ring gets activated or not, because it doesn't kill Flood. The Gravemind only cares about having a ship, so that even if the ring were activated the Flood would be able to go somewhere and find food. Chief and Arbiter were "used" by the Gravemind by being told the Gravemind didn't want the ring to be activated and so didn't they, that was the distraction.
@@thesinistersiblings705 right because they just don't miss. If you get one best believe one of the other 2 or 3 will definitely kill you. Also, you restart from the last checkpoint when you die on Legendary in Halo 2. It really does take perfection to beat it.
Wouldn’t have missed it for the world you two are two of my favorite content creators and my halo experience was unreal! And halo 2 was my favorite so it was like a three way win lol
happy 1 year anniversary to this video! You know how people act when you know they're picking up what you're putting down, n then there's this starry-eyed, extremely intent "my brain is engraving this information into itself" look that people have when they're REALLY listening to you? I love how milo has that look on his face the entire time he plays Halo.
9:14:37 "If you would falter, know this; _one final effort is all that remains."_ This line gets a really subtle callback in Halo 3, want to highlight it here since it's a cool catch later lol, took me years to notice (fun fact, "One Final Effort" is also the name of a music track in Halo 3!)
Had a blast watching this from start to finish as you JC played it. Completely hyped for HiddenXperia to join up in Halo 3, hopefully you can all figure out how you can fit this into your schedules. If you can, ask Xperia about the other believe trailers, they're interviews with old veterans from the covenant war inside the game, filmed live-action documentary style. They're all really cool and spoiler free for the most. It's just old marines recounting moments where fighting alongside the Chief gave them hope, made them "Believe" they can win the war.
Discovered the two of you through Xperia's halo 3 vid with you, paused 5 mins in after loving it and have since binge watched all your CE and half of the Halo 2 stream, great content so cool seeing someone hit this for the first time!
I love this series, halo hits home for me. Seeing a newcomer experience this story is so cool. Still cant wait for you to play halo 3, ODST, and reach. You and JC are fun to watch play this game
So in every game starting with H1 the beans can bite and latch onto you if your shields are low. A lot of those seemingly random deaths in Oracle was because of that and you both got super lucky not getting bitten in H1
Halo 2 is so great because of the amount of secrets and Easter eggs there are, not to mention the skulls and with anniversary they added plushies. Played this game for years and probably my favourite.
Timestamps added to the description for all missions!! Like with Part 1, if you have any feedback, please let me know 💚 Halo 1: ruclips.net/video/7O5Lhuyqasw/видео.html
H3 is weird with its legendary because it’s the easiest legendary but then more brutal than other games in its own respects. The storm can be ridiculous on Legendary without skips, the grunts on ghosts are super aggressive and can easily shoot you from most angles, even if you have higher ground and cover. The flood are easier to fight due to their evolution but then you have the ranged forms that absolutely shred you and can go places you can’t easily stick or melee them. But for the most part you have an even deeper sandbox to help yourself with, vehicles have way more health across the board (almost too much when you transfer it to MP) and you got Arby to give you back up in most scenarios.
I think it’s taken me 2 days to get through the gameplay of the stream, and damn I’m loving this! Despite minimal playtime personally I have absorbed a decent chunk of the lore and am loving seeing someone new to Halo immersing themselves, so keen for what comes next with Halo 3!!!
You should watch a split screen comparison. While the graphics are mostly better new, the actual shots and cinematography are a big downgrade. No more creative angles, pretty bland overall and a split screen comparison makes it really obvious It wasn't a 1:1 copy but with better graphics unfortunately
@@extremelyboredtatsumaki.495 Every single way? I dunno about that, maybe compare them side by side first. Graphics are better, cinematography though, probably not.
@@Jaker788 Compared them side by side. The Anniversary cutscenes are better in every way. Graphics are better; cinematography is multitudes better. I still remember Miranda’s weird ass, wonky run animation and her vs Arbiter. It was absolutely horrible. Dutch angles don’t make cutscenes better.
I highly suggest you watch a video called Steve Vai halo 2 it's a 20 or so minute video of the making of the soundtrack for this game and how they basically improvised it together and it's amazing
It's sad that Marty got in trouble and took down all the original videos. All that's left are re uploads. There's a lot more than the Steve Vai video, there's early concepts and recordings for most the halo games
@@Jaker788 Wait when did that happen? I just checked the channel the other day and noticed that there was a lot of Halo related stuff just not there anymore
I can’t believe Halo 2 Anniversary still has this problem with falling out of the game on co-op. It’s so stupid! It happened to me and my bro when playing legendary
It's so awesome seeing Milo playthrough these games. When you play through 3, or after O.D.S.T, you need to watch the trailers for O.D.S.T as they are by far some of my favourite video game trailers of all time.
The live action trailers were so sick. The ODST one where you get to see the helmets visor slide down was so cool. Made me really want one of those helmets. And then the one where they’re trying to target chiefs trajectory for the beginning 3 was especially sick.
Definitely but I wish he’d only played it on normal, heroic on halo 2 is harder that all of CE on legendary. I’ve played it a too many times to count but even I struggle on just normal, especially in the last part of uprising. Way too many brutes in one area.
This series is awesome. I'm just finding it now, and my god I am binging it. I've been skipping through watching your reaction to the story. It's awesome seeing people experience Halo for the first time. It brings all the emotions and love for this series back from when I was a kid.
I have my own headcanon for Halo 2 during Quarantine Zone is when you and other Elites get in the scorpion tank one would say "these human vehicles are crude yet efficient! we will need all we can to defeat the Flood!"
I remember a lot of people being disappointed in Halo 2, but I always loved the story and gameplay. Just finished watching the first Halo 8 hr playthrough, now marathoning number 2! I love this series.
Halo 3 E3 Trailer does show a short segment of one of the games cutscenes (I think with the context of the ending of Halo 2, it does confirm something that was implied), but it's so incredibly hype! Like extremely hype, hype incarnate. I hope you get to it with JC and HiddenXPeria :)
I'd also recommend rewatching some of the old style cutscenes. (Arbiter intro, Sacred icon intro, and the Gravemind conversation in particular). Blur's cutscenes are amazing to be sure, but by changing many of the original shots completely, they've lost a few things in translation. Reaction shots especially, different music, pacing, and often times distracting new sound effects make for a very different experience.
Dude, I LOVED watching watching the gears turning in your head during key story beats and emergent gameplay moments. As a 29 y/o Halo fan who played H1 and H2 to death with multiple friend groups back in middle school, it was also a blast seeing you contemplate how groundbreaking this game was in 2004. Great stuff broseph.
At the beginning with Johnson, that whole bit where he talks about the station? He's describing the station, and earth. That entire scene was dedicated to staring intently, deeply into his eyes, and missing the massive flex of near cinematic non-cutscene animation that was in a direction that was anywhere except Johnsons face. lol
Can I just say I love seeing how hyped you are at this game now compared to the first few missions in CE. It’s a testament to what this game is and the story became and the fact that all these years later someone is still having their mind blown by such an old game proves so much about why it’s so good and why games nowadays feel so much more shallow in comparison.
This series is amazing, I found your channel because of it. I especially loved the CE one, that's my favorite game in the series. And I disagree lol, The Library is both necessary and a great mission. 343 Guilty Spark is the mission that introduces the Flood, The Library is the plunge into the underworld. It's a slog through the hoards of dead, and the CE flood are faster and more terrifying than in other games
Don't know if it's already been mentioned in the comments but didn't notice it in the stream; the soundtrack for Halo 2 was produced by the legendary Nile Rodgers which is why the theme is so heavily influenced by guitar. There's a 30 min behind the scenes video you can find on RUclips of him (and others including Steve Vai) in the studio creating the soundtrack 😀
It’s great to see people are still discovering Halo even in today’s age and this is a testimony to the hype that Halo Infinite is causing. However, I can’t help feel sympathy that you never experienced the magic of these games at their time of release and the respective gaming era in which they came out.
Next part in the Halo Journey complete! New subscriber here. I absolutely love this series! Thanks you for taking a jump into the Halo Series, it's very enjoyable to see your reactions!
Halo was awesome but halo2 had a mark on my life. I was just of the age that I got to do the midnight release, gamestop tournaments, and LAN parties in college dorms. The amount of time that has passed since the game came out is the same amount of time that I had lived up until that point. 19 years old and 19 years later. A whole ass lifetime has passed. I look old. I feel old. But in my mind I'm still 20. Watching this series is big nostalgia. I've finished Infinite at this point and am only in this video so far but I'm ready to continue this ride. Will recap at the end. Thats a long haul bro.
@@Silath01 absolutely. The main enemy faction of infinite were introduced in halo wars 2. And theres a tie in cutscene to Halo 5 at the end. Essential to at least watch the cutscenes. But the game in and of itself is great fun.
Starting in Halo 2 there's a hidden Covenant land vehicle mechanic that if you hold the Jump button (A button on Xbox) you'll remain more stable/level when driving off ramps/ledges, basically you're less prone to flipping midair and landing funny. This'll definitely help for doing weird stuff in Halo 3!
One thing JC forgot to mention is that at the end of Halo CE, 343 Guilty spark actually survives the explosion as we can see in a after credits scene. You guys didn't see it.
I watched this over a couple days, I definitely saw a bunch things in halo 2 I’ve never seen before. I’ve been playing that game since I was 6 and I’m 21 now.
Johnson Vs Arbiter 7:15:40 44:33 thank you OH i know what the ladies like 1:54:50 Arbiter 2:21:44 5:44:54 prophet regret boss fight 7:16:32 arbiter vs Miranda keyes and Johnson Gravemind: 7:18:15 prophet death mercy: 8:15:28-8:46:15 Tartarus boss fight 9:40:25
Hearing discuss halo 2 and 3 campaigns is intriguing. Thinking about it now, halo 2 campaign feels like avengers infinity war with a well written story and so many key characters. Halo 3 was more like endgame that had callbacks to the previous entries and an epic finale experience.
was there durng the livestream. halo 2 is the only halo game i played. loved it as a kid. so i am so pumped for the next one not knowing what will come loved the stream felt like 2008 for me again.
A cool anniversary detail in this game is in the mission gravemind in the areas like the one you’re in at 8:06:27 if you have a sniper rifle whether it be the human or alien there’s an area you can zoom into off in the distance and you’ll see alien ships sort of fighting each other. Cortana has a even mentions something about it. But in classic you can see or can’t really see ships.
The flashbacks are REAL. Haven’t played this since I was a kid. Brings back so many memories. Loving it man! 👌🏽 but don’t think I’ll watch Halo 3 as I haven’t played it yet😬 hope I get to experience it someday. Cannot wait for the Reach stream this weekend🥳 gonna be so good.
I've got a really nasty cold at the moment. As I'm stuck in bed all day I've opted to go through these streams in full. You realising the return of "the beans" at 2:52:54 really got me. The look of horror, the harshness of the word "bean" and JC going "I dunno man" made for comedy gold. It got me laughing to a point where it made my illness induced headache worse. Thank for the entertainment Milo! It's nice seeing someone experience Halo for the first time. Every considered doing Mass Effect in the future, I feel that would also fascinate you!
The music in this game is the best. No other game to me is close, it hits the core both emotionally, wonder and epic bad ass. I love Halo 2 even though it's not perfect, to me it's perfect
5:30:00 idk I've always heard the secret regret audio. I just always thought it played whenever you lingered for a certain amount of time. But I do obsess over this game in particular and it could be not as commonly known as I thought
3:16:09 if you jumped right when the drop starts, you'll actually fly waaay up above the map and die, sending yourself above the station. Happened to my brother and I before and we died laughing XD
In correct, the song playing the the banshee section of the Heratic mission called "Follow in flight" was in fact not Steve Vai but Misha Mansoor from the band Periphery
2:47:30 the replaced songs Arbiter and Gravemind are not Steve Via, they are done by Misha Mansoor of periphery. Also really enjoying the video so far. Halo 2 is a timeless classic
Mission 14: High Charity...here is a comment I had...When you're going for Truth and Cortana tells you to forget about the flood and run...HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW WHERE TO GO!!! TOWARDS THE BLOODY SHIP!!
i never understood why a second Halo ring was a suprise when in the first game 343 says "Technically THIS installation only has a range of...." implying more rings
For the music thing: The first Arbiter mission, the part where you're flying in the Banshee, in the original, it plays a version of the Halo theme that is done by Steve Vai. In the remastered version, the song you hear is a song called Follow in Flight by another guitarist named Misha Mansoor of the band Periphery (who was a big up and comer at the time of Halo 2 Anniversary's release). The famous Breaking Benjamin part in the original is replaced by another song called Breaking the Covenant which also done by Misha Mansoor. This is because Breaking Benjamin was at the time not a band anymore and 343 Industries could not get the rights from frontman Ben Burnley for the song. There is another song in this game called Follow which is done by the band Incubus which is only in the original and is replaced by a Misha Mansoor created song in Anniversary. So many of the songs created by famous artists (at the time of 2004) were replaced by Misha's music due to copyright reasons (its a high probability that Microsoft did not want to pay to have these big name artists for the licensing of these songs for the Anniversary version).
It's the parts made out of the darker metal and with the "FFG142" numerals on it,
1:08:20: The moving machinery in front of you is the Mac Cannon Johnson was talking about at 42:20, if you looked up you could have seen the barrel recoiling and firing.
2:22:36 and 2:23:00 Tartarus glaring at the Elite honor guards as he passes by, and him going "But, I thought?" to Truth is forshadowing what we see later where Truth and Tartarus had conspired to massacre the Elites and put the Brutes in power
2:24:18: Notice how Truth cuts the transmission right before he would have said "The Great Journey is a Lie!"
2:25:55: Easy to miss detail, but you can see the Phantom the Arbiter and Shipmaster are on are flying right by the broken Halo ring from Halo 1.
2:34:10: The ship in the middle of this room is a Seraph space fighter, which then the Shipmaster mentions the Heretic leader is going to try to escape with next mission at 32:00:00 and you catch him right as he's about to get into it at 3:59:52
2:46:20: The music that plays here when in old graphics (which you didn't listen to much) is actually a song from Incubus, because Halo 2 is just that much of a mid 2000's game.
CONTINUED IN A REPLY BELOW
CONTINUED FROM ABOVE:
4:37:08: If you hang around that Hologram of the Prophet of Regret long enough, it'll say "In a gesture of peace and reconciliation, the Prophets promised to find the means of the Forerunners' transcendence, and to share this knowledge with the Elites. The Elites promised to defend the Prophets as they searched. A simple arrangement, that has become our binding Covenant!"
5:26:45 : If you went up to that giant hologram of regret and stared at it long enough, it'd have said: Most of those we encountered in our search were compelled to join our Union. To take part in moment of promise, Freedom for Allegiance, Salvation for Service! But some, like the Humans, chose to impede our progress. Block our access to sacred sites, damage Holy Relics! For their transgressions, the Humans shall be hunted until none remain alive!"
5:29:10: Cortana's dialog here forshadows some stuff later in the game, namely the "Killing Regret should shake up the Covenant leadership.
At certain points on the Gondola ride, you can see her and Johnson on the other Gondola off to the right, a bit ahead of you, since they had launched their Gondola earlier then you in the cutscene at 6:02:08
7:15:50: This cable Miranda grabs onto was originally a Gravemind tentacle in the original graphics, as it was Bungie's intent to have Gravemind tentacles scattered throughout the game and cutscenes manipulating things behind the scenes, here you see it tries to drop Miranda inside the same pit the Gravemind is below once she grabs the Index.
This is an absolute MONSTER of a comment. Thanks for writing all of this up for everyone!!!
@@MrRoflWaffles mans put effort into this
@@MajoraZ so much respect for this man
Also, something I forgot above: Johnson's speech at 1:55:00 changes based on difficulty, as JC says, I'll list each other difficulty out below:
Easy: You had your chance to be afraid before you joined my beloved Corps. But to guide you back to the true path, I brought this motivational device. Our big green style cannot be defeated!"
Normal: "The Chief is gonna jump in this tank, roll across the bridge, and blow up any inhuman-son-of-a-bitch dumb enough to get between him and the Prophet of Regret! Pull yourself together, because you're going with him!"
Legendary: "Usually the good Lord works in mysterious ways.

They were the shortest years of my life because I was having too much fun playing Halo 2.
The opening to Gravemind (first Brute encounter, "Boo" cutscene) is the courtroom from the Halo 2 opening cinematic,
the part with the first Brute Captain (Brute Shot introduction, the lift that safely sends you below, Cortana says "step right in") is where Arbiter got branded,
the place that you free the Marines from is the jail that Arbiter was dragged through on the way to the Mausoleum of the Arbiter, which speaking of
The final room in Gravemind IS the Mausoleum, where the Arbiter was taken to receive that title and his armor.
In High Charity the Prophets' Inner Sanctum, the room where there's an energy sword lying on a table with a window overlooking Delta Halo (it was right after the place where you made a comment about liking the original graphics atmosphere in the dark misty room), that's where the Arbiter was briefed on his mission to retrieve the Sacred Icon, the "exchange of hats" scene
I definitely missed some but I think those examples alone are just so damn neat
EDIT: I think the area outside of the Mausoleum of the Arbiter is where you see Grunts and Jackals rioting in the Gravemind opening cutscene, the "Boo" one, as well as those dark murky rooms in High Charity before the Prophets' Inner Sanctum being the rooms that Arbiter walks through on his way to the Inner Sanctum in the Sacred Icon cutscene, where you see Brutes taking the Honor Guard gear from the Elites
I think the first room is more like the houses of Parliament on the UK (the design is similar aswell) rather than a courtroom and the arbiter is only being judged there because of the severity of the mistake.
And the 'thing inside the ship', the 'construct' fighting Cortana, happens to be Forerunner, not Covenant (Cough, Mendicant Bias...)
What a fantastic night.
Hope to see you guys back next weekend for my favorite halo game :D
Yesssir
I love this so so much, being someone that watched you guys religiously during BO2-3 zombies, im not gonna lie I kinda stopped watching because im just not as interested in zombies anymore, but you guys playing this came out of left field and I couldn't be happier that Milo is actually enjoying the games, I hope you enjoy halo 3, that was the game I started on and I think its a game. my personal favorites are 2,3 and oddest. they have the best stories, and tie ins from oust is icing on the cake. ill be here watching every stream from start to finish, now Milo, starts your great journey :)
Love this series, keep it up guys 🙏
Cant wait for halo 3, are you and milo going to play halo wars at all? If not your going to miss out on a lot of the back story
hey milo, whatever season points you have, you should purchase reach armor so you can customize your character for the campaign since the spartan you play as in the campaign is your multiplayer spartan.
important to mention that this is only the case for Halo Reach
You are right, but there's a bunch of armour that can ruin the very immersion of the game.
@@Determ1nat1on yeah some of the 343 added armor is really goofy
Him trying to figure out the gravemind is the flood for like 10 minutes and then figuring everything about the flood out after is hilarious. How can you be so good and bad with lore at the same time?!
I know. It is so ridiculously obvious!
@@Jaker788 true
Lol I’ve never seen someone blue screen so hard in my life🤣🤣
8:52:08 actually the Gravemind doesn't care if the ring gets activated or not, because it doesn't kill Flood.
The Gravemind only cares about having a ship, so that even if the ring were activated the Flood would be able to go somewhere and find food.
Chief and Arbiter were "used" by the Gravemind by being told the Gravemind didn't want the ring to be activated and so didn't they, that was the distraction.
Imagine if he played on Legendary this wouldn’t 10 hours it be like 60 hours since Milo is new
I think the Jackal snipers alone would drive them to an insane asylum within a few of hours.
@@thesinistersiblings705 right because they just don't miss. If you get one best believe one of the other 2 or 3 will definitely kill you. Also, you restart from the last checkpoint when you die on Legendary in Halo 2. It really does take perfection to beat it.

happy 1 year anniversary to this video! You know how people act when you know they're picking up what you're putting down, n then there's this starry-eyed, extremely intent "my brain is engraving this information into itself" look that people have when they're REALLY listening to you? I love how milo has that look on his face the entire time he plays Halo.
9:14:37 "If you would falter, know this; _one final effort is all that remains."_
This line gets a really subtle callback in Halo 3, want to highlight it here since it's a cool catch later lol, took me years to notice (fun fact, "One Final Effort" is also the name of a music track in Halo 3!)
The best music track
Such a great catch! Love it!
You forgot Lord Hood says the exact line, too. Very nice parallel.

I love this series so far, can’t wait for Halo 3.
Halo 3 is so fucking epic. Literally every level is fun with just one level as the low point, and it's not even that bad unless you're on legendary.
Discovered the two of you through Xperia's halo 3 vid with you, paused 5 mins in after loving it and have since binge watched all your CE and half of the Halo 2 stream, great content so cool seeing someone hit this for the first time!

Milo: Oh there is a sniper!
JC: Uh huh..
The sheer anger/sadness/frustration in that on noise.

So great to see someone’s first time playing Halo. Most of our love for it comes from the nostalgia but it’s an amazing series
Screw anything binge worthy this is what i will watch, i need dedication
I love this series, halo hits home for me. Seeing a newcomer experience this story is so cool. Still cant wait for you to play halo 3, ODST, and reach. You and JC are fun to watch play this game
So in every game starting with H1 the beans can bite and latch onto you if your shields are low. A lot of those seemingly random deaths in Oracle was because of that and you both got super lucky not getting bitten in H1
Halo 2 is so great because of the amount of secrets and Easter eggs there are, not to mention the skulls and with anniversary they added plushies. Played this game for years and probably my favourite.

I tell you what, Halo 2 has the most difficult campaign when you bump it up to legendary
the real one watches milo? PogU…or at least one of the 100 hundred people that use this account
it is impossible to complete
How can I be your friend? Seriously, you’re everywhere I go.
My good friend there is a difference between difficult and impossible.
@@MUSTANG_P51 Oh it's possible. Is it worth it though? Debateable.
Just a heads up:
Halo 3 is the easiest in my opinion of the original trilogy on legendary so if you wanna play a game on legendary, play that one.
@@aphaiknaime5920 the flood ranged forms and War Chieftains have always given me the most trouble
Happy birthday to this video. Can’t believe it’s been a year already.
ive been waiting for this for a week i dont know why but this is so enjoyable
I love how H2 MCC cutscenes are just so high quality. I need this for all the games, and may as well just make a movie with that style 😂
You should watch a split screen comparison. While the graphics are mostly better new, the actual shots and cinematography are a big downgrade. No more creative angles, pretty bland overall and a split screen comparison makes it really obvious
It wasn't a 1:1 copy but with better graphics unfortunately
@@Jaker788
How are you so wrong? The new cutscenes are better in every single way.
@@extremelyboredtatsumaki.495 Every single way? I dunno about that, maybe compare them side by side first.
Graphics are better, cinematography though, probably not.
@@Jaker788
Compared them side by side.
I just watched it, that was pretty cool
iconic video

These two are so wholesome and I love it.
I played this game since I was like 3 or 4 maybe. I never knew about the 2 energy swords on Delta Halo. Whaaat?!
This is my second time watching it through, first the week it was streamed and again today and its amazing both times!
I’m loving the classic bringing vehicles everywhere, ESPECIALLY the specter segment. Absolutely legendary
1:06:35 was just about to type out an explanation for the Halo 2 Classic music and HiddenXPeria already gave it live! Good stuff lol
I almost had a stroke when Milo couldn’t remember THE FLOOD
And that JC didn’t correct him on the name of the jackals, he probably still thinks they’re called vandal’s 😂
Milo talking about time stamps like I'm not here sessioning this in 1 10 hour session, pfffft skipping content gold my arse
LEGENDARY
facts im watching all 10 hours i have no friends or anything to do might aswell 😭
Let's gooooo
I'd also recommend rewatching some of the old style cutscenes. (Arbiter intro, Sacred icon intro, and the Gravemind conversation in particular). Blur's cutscenes are amazing to be sure, but by changing many of the original shots completely, they've lost a few things in translation. Reaction shots especially, different music, pacing, and often times distracting new sound effects make for a very different experience.
I was really hoping he’d happen to switch the graphics for a moment during the gravemind cutscene due to how drastically different it is.
That specter gameplay really impressed me. Would never think you could finish the whole level with it
The transport vehicle in Outskirts is called a Shadow, and to my knowledge that's the only place you see them in the entire series.
Great stuff broseph.
cant wait for the next halo’s! imo my favorite campaigns cant wait
At the beginning with Johnson, that whole bit where he talks about the station? He's describing the station, and earth. That entire scene was dedicated to staring intently, deeply into his eyes, and missing the massive flex of near cinematic non-cutscene animation that was in a direction that was anywhere except Johnsons face. lol
Loving your play throughs of the halo games. I'm happy you enjoyed yourself playing through these games.
I loved his reaction to the finish the fight line. Such a hard flashback to when I beat the game after it came out.
7:44:41 “if we play good, it won’t be a 10 hour stream.” Famous last words, JC
Can I just say I love seeing how hyped you are at this game now compared to the first few missions in CE. It’s a testament to what this game is and the story became and the fact that all these years later someone is still having their mind blown by such an old game proves so much about why it’s so good and why games nowadays feel so much more shallow in comparison.
Oh, the Gravemind guessing was hilarious! I'm loving this playthrough a lot.
Literally my favorite game of all time. Its flaws just build character for me.
If you want to read a Halo book I would recommend reading first strike first because it details the part in between halos combat evolved and Halo 2
It’s great to see people are still discovering Halo even in today’s age and this is a testimony to the hype that Halo Infinite is causing.
However, I can’t help feel sympathy that you never experienced the magic of these games at their time of release and the respective gaming era in which they came out.
Lol this made me happy, gave me flashbacks and all. Can’t wait till you play Halo 3 next, your going to have a lot of fun
Thats a long haul bro.
at the very least , JC is gonna have to show Milo the Halo Wars 2 cutscene since they will be very important regarding Halo Infinite
They will be? So I should play it before HI

5:59:53 this part killed me so bad I couldn't stop laughing
Huh?
A cool anniversary detail in this game is in the mission gravemind in the areas like the one you’re in at 8:06:27 if you have a sniper rifle whether it be the human or alien there’s an area you can zoom into off in the distance and you’ll see alien ships sort of fighting each other. Cortana has a even mentions something about it. But in classic you can see or can’t really see ships.
Oh man I can't wait to see your Halo 3 run!
"Oh theyre leaving us on a cliffhanger. Can you imagine?"
Oh buddy you have no idea
I've got a really nasty cold at the moment. As I'm stuck in bed all day I've opted to go through these streams in full. You realising the return of "the beans" at 2:52:54 really got me. The look of horror, the harshness of the word "bean" and JC going "I dunno man" made for comedy gold. It got me laughing to a point where it made my illness induced headache worse.
Thank for the entertainment Milo! It's nice seeing someone experience Halo for the first time. Every considered doing Mass Effect in the future, I feel that would also fascinate you!
listening to you trying to figure out the gravemind was flood was fucking painful, holy shit son
Bro had a stroke
Watching him walk over practically every covenant carbine hurt my soul
The music in this game is the best. No other game to me is close, it hits the core both emotionally, wonder and epic bad ass. I love Halo 2 even though it's not perfect, to me it's perfect
THE PART WHEN WAFFLES SAYS “That’s not me chat, that’s not me” and JC JUST LAUGHS, LMAO HES LIKE IM JUST GONNA LET HIM FIND OUT
5:30:00 idk I've always heard the secret regret audio. I just always thought it played whenever you lingered for a certain amount of time. But I do obsess over this game in particular and it could be not as commonly known as I thought
It always played for me. It was always instant in the original for me at least.
I love that you did what me and my friend did with scorpion, I knew you would hit that load point, it is such a shame...
3:16:09 if you jumped right when the drop starts, you'll actually fly waaay up above the map and die, sending yourself above the station. Happened to my brother and I before and we died laughing XD
Dude iv been watching your zombie content forever and I was so happy to stumble across this gold.
In correct, the song playing the the banshee section of the Heratic mission called "Follow in flight" was in fact not Steve Vai but Misha Mansoor from the band Periphery
I wish more games were given the blur cutscenes like halo 2. They are goddamn beautiful, very cinamatic.
You should do a playthrough of cursed Halo and cursed halo 3. It’s disgustingly amazing lol
You can get the skull at any difficulty now.
TOWARDS THE BLOODY SHIP!!
u got a tank and a wraith somwhere it shouldnt, then a specter. i have no doubt if given time u will figure out how to get anything anywhere
I have loved both the Halo streams and will gladly watch every single one :) can't wait for Halo 3
i never understood why a second Halo ring was a suprise when in the first game 343 says "Technically THIS installation only has a range of...." implying more rings
For the music thing:
The first Arbiter mission, the part where you're flying in the Banshee, in the original, it plays a version of the Halo theme that is done by Steve Vai.
