Although this set is okay....it's really chalky and rubs off your fingers and cracks after time. I had got a Winsor and Newton cotman watercolor set and I am so pleased with it. It's $20 at micheals but you can buy cheaper online or use a coupon. Price as low as $10!! These are both good starter sets but I would buy the cotman :) please do your research and best luck! - a hooman

Personally I think the sonnet watercolors ($20 for 16 full pans) are better than the Cotman's. The sonnets are a lot easier to reactivate, and quite a bit more pigmented
Everybody says they are chalky but once im done i just hang my paintings up and its not a problem
Oof, my mom recently gave me an Artist Loft deluxe set and I guess doing a watercolor review from me would be a great start. But yeah, I think it's a good start to use for beginners :)
Rly random but your channel has helped me improve so much in art. It encouraged me to buy alcohol markers and other art supplies you reviewed, helped me improve in anatomy alot, etc. Only thing i dont have for coloring is watercolor paint, so im hoping this review encourages me to get them! I like these more than my "real" watercolors because :
-They dry quick( I'm impatient & don't have much time to work on my art like I used to)
-I can fix my mistakes easily
-Vibrant colors
-No mess like with tube ones
-Blends to perfect
-If you have a more important or special piece, I suggest other ones but for a quick sketch they're great in my opinion. I've done amazing things with these.

For $20 you can get a much better watercolor set than this. I highly suggest the kuretake gansai tambi 18 set, it's not chalky at all and the pans are really big

I agree my friend, but a little practice (plus borrowing a few techniques) should help do the trick, you'll slowly get used to it ^^
Videos really help! I started enjoying it this month cause videos helped me understand it more, just watching the process, but before I hated it cause I didn't understand and couldn't do it.

In my opinion, they could be compared with "Perikan Opaque watercolor", and "Royal Talens Angora watercolor".
And surely better than "Koh-I-Noor 36 watercolor set"! but at a much cheaper price. Love it

Cool! Im getting these in a pack for $23 that comes with a waterbrush, Watercolor paper pad, A sponge and a portable brush cleaner! It's a great deal! I'm getting it from amazon. It's great for me cause I've never tried to do watercolor exept for when i was younger which doesn't really count lol but yeah its a really good set for beginners like me!

You should try them on black or colored paper. They're super opaque.
I would say these are almost a gouache palette. They're so opaque that they even work over black paper.
Very chalky and hard to layer but I love to use it! I don’t really use it anymore for character drawings but I use it for painting backgrounds and plants just because of how colourful it is!
Michaels is just 1 subway station from my home... I saw this set at the store but didnt buy it because I usually dont trust cheap watercolor. I bought their gouache set though.
However, recently I am looking for more of "Opaque Watercolor", mimic gouache but not as thick as gouache..
And I saw the reviews on youtube, it turns out to be exactly what I am looking for! I know many people dont like their chalkiness and opaque being set as watercolor. But this could be used as gouache method (layering), which I really like.
In this way I could save my "Nicker 36 Poster Color set", which is way more expensive than this!!!

Yeah, it's basically a gouache pan set. Much easier to thin than the tubes. It's so opaque that it even works on colored and black paper. I've been using it in my black journal.
Artist's Loft isn't great. For $5 its pretty good but its really chalky (after a day or 2 it starts to be chalky) and it's really hard to get a very pigmented color with it. If you want a dark, solid black, do not get these paints

Have you tried masters touch from hobby lobby?? They are amazing!! You might wanna try them, and sometimes u can find them half off but they are so cheap but great

Would you be able to spray a clear coat over the paint to keep the chalky finishing texture from spreading?
Hmm im not sure, it should probably work though.
I've heard of people getting a good result with that. I've never tried it, so I wouldn't know which clear coat to recommend, but you could probably find one that works well with this paint.

Yeah thats the same issue i have with them also is that theyre super chalky when they dry its more of like a pastel type of watercolor paint finish style... I hate them.
I never would have thought to use a colored pen with watercolors! The brown ink was a super nice choice.

I have these same watercolors XD I don't really use them that often because they are so chalky, but I want to start using watercolors more often in my drawings so I can get used to coloring with them. Then when I get better watercolors it won't be so difficult to use them lol. Also the final drawing is sooo cute! I love her hair, it looks so fluffy 😍

My opinion is that they succ. I can't deal with the chalkyness texture and I cannot. I recommend sakura koi watercolors 48 set for those ppl that hate chalkyness.

I have a Simbalion brand that my auntie gave me in Christmas. IDK where she bought it but the Artist loft and Simbalion are exactly the same!!!! But the simbalion is better :P

My brother’s wife bought one of those for her like 2yo child and the moment she opened it we all got this rotten cheese smell and we were all like “wth is that smell”turns out it was those watercolors
I got my first watercolor set at a dollar store that was closing down so everything was on clearance. It was 50 cents and actually good, not chalky at all. I like them better than the Artist Loft ones.

Prang is pretty decent for its price. You can get Sakura Koi or Winsor and Newton Cotman pocket box cheaper online.
