    Let me give an insight into camel watercolor. I hope this will be helpful, fun fact to know to all the young generation teen age painters. I started using camel colors when I was 6-7 yrs old way back in 95s. I am from kolkata and my dear citizens know rich cultural background of this part of India. There was a time when camel was not there and only WN and Reeves paints used to be available in India. Camel started importing wn , arches and canson paper in india. Slowly they started manufacturing paint in India, probably with a handshake with WN. WN artist paints were costly now and back then also. Cotman was more affordable and max used cotman. This I am talking about 1970s. When camel started manufacturing artist watercolor, people started shifting to this brand. WN was so costly that famous painter MF Hussian slept with wn oil paint set beside his pillow for 1 year as he couldn't afford another one. Camel started manufacturing and improved day by day and now they have excellent line of paint. I have there brochure from 90s when they were still importing. From 90s late to 2013 almost no foreign paint came to India but the scenario changed now. Camel is an excellent paint only you need to know how to paint.

      I use camel too, it's the cheapest brand and growing up it was the only brand everyone knew of..(I was born in the late 90's)

      Camel paints are excellent value for money and a household name in India. They had tie up with W&N and had imported winsor and Newton paint for direct sales in India in the mid 90s.i had purchased winsor and Newton oils artist quality tubes marketed by camlin in the mid 90s.

      Having used camel for years and having had a very very good experience with them...I can agree with you whole heartedly...Also indian handmade cottton papers like Khadi and Chitrapat...cheap and great to learn on...Camel and some good paper and set of Camel brushes...there you have cheap starter set where you can learn on without bieng scared to waste supplies

      @rupamshee3435 4 года назад

      Amateur_artist_stories Mandal when I first used camel watercolour 5x12ml cost approx 80 -90 rs. Then there was mongoose hair brushes. I have 30-40 mongoose hair brushes and all are extremely in useable condition. I still remember I bought 3-4 mongoose hair brush in 50rs. No palate. I used to use hose hold kitchen plate. Paper used to cost 2 rs. Now when I see you tube videos recommending costly items for painting I feel we did not have these things in our time. Then how did we learn. These I am talking about 1995-6 when I went to art school near our house. Now in RUclips video i see( many but not all) - they do not even know how to draw, basics of figure drawing, portrait drawing, perspective, depth of colour and becomes Drawing teacher in RUclips. I think the Winsor and Newton Cotman Sketcher palate is fine for starting out. White Nights is a very good value for more professional paints and M. Graham is actually a pretty good value as well once you know what you want. They just don't sell smaller sets or pans.
    For trying out a lot of colors and for getting a good metal palate, I'd suggest Arteza 36 half pan set. It's a bit opaque and there is no info on the individual paints but you get get the whole thing for about $30. The metal palate would sell for about $20 on ebay so you can't really lose.
    If you want to start out by learning to mix colors you can just buy a metal palate and empty half pans on ebay and then buy the basic 5 paint (tube) set from M. Graham for about $30.

  • @rosawolke2788
    @rosawolke2788 Год назад +4

    The small winsor & newton set was my first watercolor set, even after playing around with other brands they are still my favorite, mostly because they are less opaque this makes it easier to start painting cautiously and layer colors up slowly plus the mixing qualities are great. I only added a few Schmincke colors: a bright pink and a neutral gray (to be able to mix every color), 2 greens and 1 red.
    However I’m a bit surprised by the W&N red because the one I got was much more like a yellowish orange.

    My experience with buying watercolors and judging the quality etc is by asking yourself what do you need it for. If you want to sell your artwork, definitely go for artists watercolors , I would recommend Horadam or Sennelier ...but if you want to just paint it then digitalised it later, a student grade watercolor for eg Cotman Winsor & Newton would work just fine

    Thanks for the demo, it is really useful to see these sets in action without needing to buy them. :)
    Personally I started with a Winsor&Newton Cotman set, but got frustrated with it quickly, because it is hard to rewet and you can get out only a little bit of pigment a time. When I tried making greater washes or big loose florals it made it really hard,stuff got dry before I could add more.
    For me it was a game changer when I invested in Daniel Smith Essentials. Turns out I like tubes much better with all the palettes stacking up. :D

The colors are way more rich and beautiful compared to the student quality one (Cotman). Best for me so far.

    I have many brands of watercolors...Prima, Cotman, Sennilier, Van Gogh, QoR and Daniel Smith!
    If people are looking for quality beginners paints, I recommend Van Gogh hands down. They come in pan sets as well as tubes which you can create pans from. The colors are vibrant, heavily pigmented, easy to blend and very inexpensive, depending on the site you can buy a tube for under $3! I have heard from other artists that they even have kept them on their palettes after they have migrated to high end paints, which says a lot!
    For high end paints, I prefer Daniel Smith for all the wonderful, unusual colors and textures they create. I was very impressed with what you could create with just the 6 primary colors, however, but it is difficult to not buy so many of their wonderful colors, lol.
    Thank you for this video!

    Thankyou for answering my question I’ve also been wondering about metallics I’ve seen a Paul Rueben metallic/ glittery set and it’s £60 for the one with more colours have you had any experience with these paints? Also i would like to know how to use the Schmincke Aqua Bronz Pigment Powder - Rich Pale Gold - 20ml you did a demo but added too much water so I really didn’t get to see it used properly. I’m planning a London Bridge night scene using the fireworks technique you showed and in my reference pic the bridge glows gold so I’m wanting to paint it in all the Schmincke Aqua Bronz Pigment Powder colours but I’ve only been able to buy one so far as I am bedbound I had surgery yesterday but my allowance doesn’t spread very far as I make mom keep most of the money as she’s given up everything for me. Also I wanted to ask about watercolour canvases as I’m going to do my mom a picture to hand in her bedroom are they any different to paint with? Thankyou for everything you do you brighten my day so much and you’ve brought out a passion for watercolours in me when I was practically dead inside. Your amazing thanks so much. Rachel x

    I am Nupur and I am from India. I have started my watercolor painting journey and your videos have been a blessing. There's a company of art supplies called Brustro on Amazon India that is very popular. I have been using Brustro watercolor papers and haven't had any issue. I was wondering if you could do a video on the watercolor paints and brushes from the brand for beginners. It would be a huge help as I am thinking of investing in better colours and brushes. Absolutely a huge fan of your work, thank you so much.

I plan to invest in the larger Cotman half pan set in the future. I like to try colors and triads. I mostly use my sketchbook for that.
    I usually have paper with 130g / m2 from the 1 € shop in it and I use it also for my artist watercolor paints. I have student and artist watercolor paper in my paper box one travel as well. I bought the artist paper cheaper on Amazon for the same price like the price for a student quality paper.
    It is important that the test paper is white, or has the same color as the paper for the pictures.
    So that the colors look comparable.
    Good paper is much more expensive than good paint.
    Good Paint last longer than cheaper paint.
    On good paper I can't make more pictures on it than cheaper paper, it doesn't last longer.

    I love to use good watercolour papers, but usually, I would buy postcards or A5 sizes. I think they are cheaper but more interesting to play with. I do watercolour for fun, but I am so happy that I got Winsor Newton paint. They are much better than the cheap ones. When I do not know colour mixing, I would think 12 colours too limited, but it's not the case.

      First of all, they are both good paints. Now the thing about Mijello Mission Gold ist that they have a lot of mixed pigment colors, which isn't really ideal. But there is a pure pigment set, so if you can shell out the money, I would say that is the best choice. But if you were trying to decide between the regular Mission Gold set and White Nights, I would recommend you go with White Nights.
      How come you have chosen those two brands? Just asking cause I'm curious and such things always interest me.

    Hi Makoccino, I'm using #Camel #Camlin art materials for ages. This brand is the most widely used in India by students and professionals alike. It is pocket friendly and certainly does not try to bracket your financial capabilities in order to delve into the world of art. In the video above, you have mentioned the paints by Camel as smelly. I found that comment quite odd, so in order to test it out myself, I went sniffing my paint box and palette, but could not trace the stink as you have described. I never have previously either, nor heard any of my artist friends mentioning the fact. In India we get all International brand art materials but of them all, Camlin stands out as the best seller. I am from India, and have tried all the leading brands. They are all good, but so is Camlin. I do not represent the company nor am I a share holder. But for the benefit of my other artist friends who would take your adverse comment on #Camel watercolour paint seriously, this is just to tell them, that the "stink" simply does not exist!

I have since upgraded to L'Aquarelle I was able to get the whole colour range which is way to many colours but it was the best deal so i couldn't pass it up. I think the binder in sennelier is gum arabic and honey is added to keep the paints moist so they rewet easier, similar to how you can add glycerine.

    In my country, most of the student grade quality paint is hella expensive. The cheaper ones are usually japanese brands like kuretake and holbein, or Sakura Koi. (Holbein being more popular because it came in tubes and you can share tube it). Other available well-known cheap set would be van gogh. Because of that, selling share tubes are popular in my country, and quite a few of individual artists did this. And i'm grateful for them, i could get 1ml 24set of mijello mission gold for around 6$. Yes it's a little, but sooo helpful for me that wants to try good quality paints. These artist did some other brands like white night, QoR, Daniel Smith, and of course student grade too like cotman and van gogh. If you live in asian country like me, where it's hard to find quality paint with affordable price, do this! It's quite a promising business too, i think. And you can make other people happy ^^. When i have enough money, i plan to share tube a schmincke horadam 12 set.
