Wind Rises is underrated in many aspects, but one of them is definitely the music. The version of "A Journey" that plays as Jiro's plane flies for the first time at the end of the film makes me cry every. friggin. time. It's so poignant. So nostalgic. So wistful. So sad. Every time I watch Wind Rises it climbs even higher on my list of favorite Ghibli films. And as always, Hisaishi-san's music is an integral part of that. Edit: Really happy to see so much love for Kaze Tachinu in the replies!!
"A Journey" sends shiver's down my spine everytime I hear it and I get all kinds of nostalgic and melancholic images in my mind. You're not the only one!
@@tjippo8197 Absolutely! Very few composers elicit shivers/goosebumps from me like Hisaishi-san, and A Journey is one of his most perfectly crafted themes for such an achingly beautiful film. The version I mentioned is named "A Journey (A Parting)" on the OST, when the melody shifts to the brass I feel SO MANY EMOTIONS.
Always when friends ask me for the music I listen or my idol and I answer Hisaishi they just say “who’s that?” and it makes me so angry they don’t know one of the most important person in earth! I just want to ask them how could they live happily
Joe Hisaishi never fails to inspire me as a pianist. Whenever I feel as if I'm losing touch with my piano, playing a piece by him always reignites my passion for it! I am truly grateful to be in this era where Joe Hisaishi exists.
His music is a mixture of lightness, sharpness, laughs and tears, nostalgia and a touch of sadness that we don't know the origin. Joe grabs something from my subconsciousness that took place in my childhood and still making me sad. The problem is that I don't know what it is.
I am ordinal Japanese who grew up with Ghibli films and music by Joe Hisaishi. Now, as an adult, I feel that people all over the world love Ghibli's movies and Joe Hisaishi's music, which I feel proves that we all share the same universality as human beings around the world. And I'm very proud of Ghibli and Joe Hisaishi for creating such great works. Great movies and music transcend borders and race.
getting to hear mr. joe hisaishi live is number 1 on my bucket list. i'm praying i'll be able to see him at least once before he stop doing live performance altogether
I had this same exact thought and I got stressed thinking about it. Luckily, I found out that he is coming to my city next year and I booked a ticket in haste. I'm so excited! And a funny thing about it is that I found it out exactly one year from the date he was gonna play, and there was only ONE ticket left. I mean, that's crazy.
David Dunham man you’re lucky!!!! The only country close enough for me to afford seeing him is Singapore, and he just did a concert there already. I was so close to buying the ticket but then our government closed the border the next day due to covid. Crossing my fingers that he’ll return soon
I lied down the other day while listening to Joe's symphony, and imagined myself at the end of my life on my deathbed. It was such a surreal, peaceful experience. The music truly has such an inexplicable power; I was wholeheartedly accepting of death's embrace. It made me grateful for this life that I've been granted.
Thank you Joe, you're a huge inspiration, every time I hear your pieces, I'm just feel so determined and my love for music is renewed. So thank you, for all the beautiful music you've created. Edit: to expand more, I've been at a plateau in my playing and have been really discouraged, but these songs mean a lot to me and hearing them really just reminds me why I do it and why I want to be as good as i hope i will be someday. So to everyone out there, don't you get discouraged either, go back to your roots and cry a bit while you realize what it's truly about, and love every second of it

In a world so filled with filth and degradation, there is such beauty and soul in Hisashi's music that inspires hopefulness and renewal. Truly magnificent.
The arrangement of Howl's music castle : merry go round, the promise of the world, it must be love, the secret garden etc make me want to fall in love, thank you so much Hisaishi-san for creating all these feelings
There is so much soul that goes into these melodies. I find his music transitions very gracefully from one emotion to the next. At time it can be playful, powerful, unsure, mysterious, heartwarming, adventurous, down trodden, and its just incredible to hear it all done so well
