Great Video!! Thanks for showing the fail. All too often I watch youtube videos where campers seem to make an amazing meal on the first try... the trial and error is half the fun!!
I also have an antique cast iron waffle maker which I use at home and camping. Love it! I also like Klondike. For even extra fiber I soak old fashioned rolled oats for an hour or so in water, drain then add to batter. I use about 1/2 cup to 2 cups mix. Delicious!
You just needed to cure the pan a little more before you used it. I had the same issue in mine. Lots of butter will help but make sure you put it in both sides but the cast iron does a great job on waffles. Cast iron is awesome.
Love your videos. I went out and bought same waffle iron. Little tip,,, buy a cheap Laser infrared Temperature gun. they are good to have, esp for out door cooking. you want the temp of the iron to be 450. ish. it can be too hot as well. it eliminates the guess work. its a great tool to have. you don't need a expensive one.
.. neat find ,, practice makes perfect ... maybe needs seasoned .. I also use cast iron and until a good seasoned coating things stick.. but I'm sure you know that...was still a success ...yaaaa!!
Incredible Griswold find. I was fortunate enough to find a perfect 1950's 9 in Wagner for $12 last year. Your Griswold waffle iron is gold at any price.
Looks delicious!! I tried a couple times with my cast iron waffle maker but haven't gotten it down yet. Thank you for not cutting out your first attempt with it sticking. So many people edit out parts like that and I so appreciate you showing that to us. It's real! Also live waffles the bird 😂
Hi there, thanks for doing all these ideas. I'm new to car camping, and your videos are helpful. I just watched you make waffle batter. It may have been thin because you used liquid measure for both wet and dry measurements. Or dry measure for both..couldn't tell if that was a wet or d Dr y measuring cup. I hope That helped. Again thank you for your hard work and dedication. LW
I have 2 of these waffle irons and they've been sitting on my stove for the past year because I made a waffle and it ended up like your first one and I never tried again lol... I guess that's why your video popped up on my youtube feed... They know! Now I have to try again!
I am Lodge fan myself but i do have other brands of castiron . i got a waffle iron, going to try it your way and go from there, blueberry waffle. OOH AAH
Thank you. Someone may have already said this, but, you may want to flip it over when you put the shortening in and definitely when you put the batter in. I think those were used on a wood Cook stove by taking an eye out and placing the waffle iron over the opening. You were on the right track with the camp fire, Nick messed you up. I enjoyed your video. Thanks
I have a Lehman's waffle iron, I've tried to work it four times, and four times, got the same split waffle result. I found running a chopstick between the iron squares helps loosen the failed waffle. I hate my waffle iron with a passion usually saved for brutal dictators
@@sixgunsymphony7408 Thank you. I Finally got it to work. I just left the two halves in the oven the entire week, no matter what was baked, those two little bawstads were in there with it. I'd oil them occasionally but took on the "you put me through hell, now I shall do the same to you." They got no reprieve until yesterday, when I finally was able to whip up a batch of waffley cornbread.
I just got my Griswold yesterday day after Thanksgiving. I'm so excited. Cleaned and seasoned. This Saturday morning. After a few small fires , some burnt and albino waffles and one heck of a mess . I had It Rolling! Oh and a box and a half !!! Ok 2 and Half boxes of mix . But who's counting 😬 I got this Girlfriend 👍 🥰😁❤
Nice to see you enjoying using the vintage cast iron. I have a 1908 #7 Griswold. I like the #7, as many of my recipes make a 7" waffle. They are works of art! ~ Diane
Hello Amanda, I like that waffle maker. I think that if you coat both sides of the waffle maker with a generous amount of cooking oil and a thin batter, that will work out really well. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
im a new subbie and I wanted to let you know that your content is amazing. im new to hiking and planning my 1st big trip to Olympic National Park this spring. your videos are so creative and helpful, love your channel😊🌲🏕
Ale poświęcenie 😁😁😁 !!! Super że się nie poddałaś po pierwszej prubie 😉 !!! Fajny kanał z mnustwem pozytywnej enepgii 😀 !!! Extra ! God Job 👍 Pozdrowienia z Polski 😉
Your a cute person, nice music. Can I suggest a healthy blast of Pam for the iron so it doesn’t stick? That stuff has really worked for me, especially with a waffle maker
I'm not particularly impressed with the idea of cooking waffles outside on charcoal briquettes, however, these two are definitely making happy memories together....awww!
POP QUIZ: How many times did you see Waffles the Bird?! 😉
If he keeps eating those he’s going to feel Waffle🤢
Six. 🐦lol
Great Video!! Thanks for showing the fail. All too often I watch youtube videos where campers seem to make an amazing meal on the first try... the trial and error is half the fun!!
haha I actually thought it would take me a lot longer to get the waffles right!

Butter then rotate it for both sides. Then add the batter.

It's so awesome! We made another waffle after I was done filming and it turned out even better! I definitely can't wait to make them again.

I collect Griswolds too, griswold went out of business in 1951 so even if that was the last skillet they ever made it’s at least 70years old
Hey Amanda i recommend kentsurvival RUclips channel he specializes in campfire cooking he has done waffles in this same waffle iron
Nerd out young lady, that is beyond cool!!!
.. neat find ,, practice makes perfect ... maybe needs seasoned .. I also use cast iron and until a good seasoned coating things stick.. but I'm sure you know that...was still a success ...yaaaa!!
Yea I would definitely like a better seasoning, but it did pretty good considering! 😁
Incredible Griswold find. I was fortunate enough to find a perfect 1950's 9 in Wagner for $12 last year. Your Griswold waffle iron is gold at any price.
Excellent, most entertaining, the final product looks fabulous
Yours looks so easy. I flopped more times then you can count. Lol. I gave up. After watching you, maybe ill try again. Thank you.

If I remember correctly, I think the rule of thumb is 50°F per briquette.
I am Lodge fan myself but i do have other brands of castiron . i got a waffle iron, going to try it your way and go from there, blueberry waffle. OOH AAH
Respects, but I would not want to be the one carrying the waffle iron when camping.

160 pieces of cast iron most from the '60s and older much older
I love your Channel a waffle lot
😂 love this!
I have been looking for one of these --hard to find
Use spray oil on it I do mine the waffles won't stick
Hmmm.. 🤔 waffle steak barbeque 🙂
When in doubt... ADD MORE BUTTER! Haha! I love it!
Always! 😂
Try a cast iron aebelskiver pan! Yummy
I would use a brush for the butter. Or just use spray oil.
Hi Amanda, Girlfriend!😁😁❤😊
I want waffles now! How do you wash things like cast iron while camping?
Don't wash, just wipe down with oily cloth and reheat for baked on seasoning
Nice waffle. Good 👍 video.
Nice waffle iron,

You need to get a proper seasoned finish to your cast iron.

Great fleece!
Useless 🤫👎
YESSSS!!!!
Lol 😂
Perseverance pays off!
Definitely!
I loved the true life struggles of this video...makes it easier for us whenever we try waffles. I Loved Waffles the Blue Bird...such a cutie. Thx. ☺
Very nice thank you 😊 I have never seen one like that . Now I am Hungry.
This is so adorable i love camping and waffles 🥰!!!
Where were you camping?
This is Snow Canyon State Park. I have a full travel guide on my blog with all the details! It's one of my favorite state parks.
I've been trying to find one of these at a reasonable price for a long time. Great video!
Me too! I found one years ago but it was way too expensive. We got really lucky at the antique store in Montana and were able to get a great price!
@@amanda.outside oh wow, if you got a good deal at a store you were lucky!
Great job Amanda try Pam butter spray works great!

The thin batter definitely worked better! I can't wait to make them again!
Very impressive! Love it!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
briquettes are not my fav. i much prefer charcoal. i'm glad you enjoyed your new cast iron waffle maker. good video, thumbs up
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Waffle bird. Never saw one before.
First waffle always comes out bad. Practice, Practice, Practice. Other than the first waffle this was a nice video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
im a new subbie and I wanted to let you know that your content is amazing. im new to hiking and planning my 1st big trip to Olympic National Park this spring. your videos are so creative and helpful, love your channel😊🌲🏕
Welcome to the channel!! I'm so happy to hear that my videos are helpful! 😁
Griswold's are the best. Waffle bird 3 times😳 I think.
They really are the best! I love going into antique stores and looking for them!
This is so cool! I love my cast iron.
You're freaking awesome!
So jealous of your Griswold! If it doesn't have made in USA, it's older than 1960. I'd guess around 1906. Treat it well!!
That is so cool. Thank you for the info! I will definitely take good care of it.
Probably a good idea to research on how to season and clean it. I'm sure it more work than a skillet. Enjoy!!
Can you post a link for your reusable ziplock bags?
I just added the link to the description. They're called Stasher bags and they're awesome for camping!
Now we know you really love camping. Finding things to do are the best part.
haha Making waffles while camping definitely kept me busy for a while!
😁👍 you did it!
Very good Sis. Never give up. Try try again.
Something about the flavor a well seasoned cast iron adds
I agree! There's nothing better!
So cool! 🏕 🧇
Awesome find!
Awesome content
Thank you!
Awesome. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Such a cool find!
We were so excited when we found it in the antique store! I can't wait to use it more!

Glad you enjoyed the music! I loved editing with this 1960's pop music!
