my only problem with sofas, is when they don't have a neck and head rest, the most bang for buck to me went was the Cougar gaming SOFA hahaha awesome by the price , I recommend it
@@thiagodelgado3128 We have an option or two on this list that will tackle this problem, but I get it. It's possible to find seating that supports the shoulders and base of your neck without wrecking your listening experience, you just have to shop a bit differently than how a lot of theater chairs are marketed to you.
Happy FATHERS DAY (someday) :) btw!
@@robinsonbrand Sure, indeed I Really like it of your video, and the last option is the best of both worlds haha. Thx
@Andrew Robinson Hey, Andrew and Kristi. I wanted to know if you were interested in a review sample of speakers. I did email, and not trying to nag, honest, but I'd like to offer to another reviewer if you're not interested as I'm the consumer and not the manufacturer(but will work with the manufacturer to have these sent to you and on to me after your review).
You guys are freakishly scary. For the past 3 years ever time I’m about to pull the trigger on something for my living room theater you drop a video that parallels my journey. You guys rock.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there holding it down.
Happy Sunday to all.
@@scruffy8861 Thanks for joining us this morning!
@@robinsonbrand That is why I get all my furniture specifically seating units from custom boutique. Thankfully it is much cheaper to get custom stuff in India than in US or even Europe. The best quality and comfort. And less price.
Happy fathers day too Andrew!
@@robinsonbrandHappy fathers day to you as well for holding down your Fur baby! I love the sofa part of your video definitely a better fit to not block that glorious sound...
Apologies for being a little late this morning! We're really excited about this one and can't wait to hear what you think. This is one I think the whole family will enjoy.
And echoing Andrew's comment below, Happy Father's Day to all of you.
A new chair and new episodes of Justified!
I love the channel and generally always agree with Andrew and Kristi on various things. However we have a theater room and absolutely love our theater seats. Our kids feel like it is way more special and a different experience than just sitting on the couch like they do upstairs in our living room. We do have a dedicated theater room in our basement which I think does make a big difference. I don’t think anyone should put theater seats in their main living area 🙂 but I also know Andrew has made content talking about he did the dedicated theater thing and just didn’t use it. So everyone has their own preferences and I can certainly respect other decisions. But we love ours and use it frequently.
To each their own.. It's a free country.
Awesome change of pace! Love it. The family guy clip is gold 😂
Thank you so much for letting us know. We can't always do the same old, same old. So glad our humor landed with you.
I don't know... when you watch long movies, all those chairs and sofas without neck or head support quickly become a huge problem - you just can't fully relax...
You get what you pay for with seating. For those with lower back or neck issues, having recline, lumbar, and headrest adjustments are an absolute must if you want to enjoy life.
I don't have back issues, but have come to appreciate head and neck support in any seating where I will be relaxing for an extended period of time.
I salute you both for producing videos that consider components other reviewers don't like the B&O large, circular "lifestyle" speaker and chairs. Yes, chairs are an important, underrated, component of a sound system, as is the room itself.
Our pleasure!
Great content! Home theater is about so much more than AV equipment. Good information. I'd welcome a part 2 with more options. I enjoy all of the videos you've done showing various ways to think outside the box with furniture, how you set up your rooms, etc.
Thanks so much for letting us know. Appreciate you watching!
Being able to recline and lay my head back against a cushion is more important than preserving sound quality.
Mental note to myself... Next house to hire Andrew and Kristi for interior design and home theatre set up. Love your style!
We appreciate it, and you never know what the future may hold 😉
Couldn't agree more, they nail it. So good.... Take care Larss70.
Great video. It wonderful to see someone finally do an honest review of home theater seating.
Appreciate it. I've owned a few theater chairs over the years and they NEVER stick around long. I've been theater chair free for about 6-7 years now and have never been happier.
I'll never stop going to the movies and I hope I'm not the only one here
Refreshing to hear you have the same concerns I’ve had about the popular home theater seats with those high backs likely hurting the quality of sound. Even for movie watching those high backs will cancel out much of your rear and side surround sound depending on speaker placement. Great video topic 👍
Thanks Chad!
Can't believe I had never thought about the effect on the sound from having a padded headrest behind my ears when listening to music and movies - off to check my listening chair now! Another great and helpful video, thanks Andrew and Kristi!
Two big thumbs up! I'm a designer so my opinion may be skewed but I've been watching your content for probably 4ish years and the first video I saw I immediately noticed the decor and their placement... I thought , either this guy has a hidden passion for design or he has a girlfriend with really good taste. Turns out probably both are true?... Great show, thanks... PS: I still have the Eames lounge chair my parents had when I was a kid... Fifty years later it looks better than ever... You both take care.
Awesome! Thank you!
One issue Andrew for us taller folks; 6’2 guys or gals need something behind our neck. I realize they don’t look as nice or modern (I manage a high end store) but reclining furniture is just more neck friendly for us taller chaps 😎
Finally, so glad I’ve found someone that shares this opinion.
Thanks for your hard work Kristi and thanks Andrew for your presentation.👍👍
Always!
As someone that is just about to start outfitting their new home theater, this video was incredible in terms of information and with serendipitous timing!
I’ve been waiting for someone to address these monstrous high backed theater chairs 🙌🏼 they do completely destroy the whole point of front and surround sound speaker placement and how the sound reaches your ears. Awesome video with plenty of seating options for people to stop making this mistake 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks!
Every time I saw this type of seating style in a home theater video I always wanted this over those heavy seats one seater style. And the wife will love it. Great video.
I actually use a leather sectional from Ikea in my theater room and my family loves it. In fact, we actually bought a sofa in the same line for the living room. No regrets here.
LOVE IT! Appreciate you sharing!
Great stuff. One thing I have always lived by is no high back seats…
Friends don't let friends listening in high backed chairs!
Most of the seating in this video looks like it would offer me zero neck or head support unless I slump down really low which would give me a low back ache within 3 minutes. I do agree that "theater seating" is not really desirable for most of us without a dedicated "theater room". But give me a recliner or some head support and I"ll sacrifice a little rear surround effect to not be in agony. And why is not having individual, removable cushions on a sofa/ sectional more desirable / easier to clean? Personally I prefer them so they can be rotated, so you're not wearing out the fabric and cushion of that one preferred viewing seat. Wah wah wah.....I know....😂
I agree with the logic of low seats... but I also want to lounge during a movie and I do need a neck rest
I really loved the video idea AND Kristis script made it really fun to watch! ✌🏻
Thanks!
Thank you, Andreas!! I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed the video.
In an ideal theatre situation, this brings back the debate of optimal rear surrounds (the 6th and 7th speaker in a 7.X.X configuration) vs. optimal comfort for a 2 hour movie.
As someone with not the best back, I'd still prefer a chair with hard adjustable lumbar support and a proper neck to lower head support for a 2 hour movie.
I totally agree with your assessment. My wife and went back and fourth on the option of having "home theater seating" in our living room but ultimately settled on a single bench style sofa with a large ottoman from a local furniture store. It's low profile and allows for our surround speakers to have optimal placement. Snuggling up to watch the Star Wars trilogy with my six year old on Father's Day would have not been as much fun with a cup holder and tray table between us.
Great video! This is why I actually like to go to living room theaters. Most of them don’t have those high back theater style chairs, and they’re just more comfortable.
Great video guys! Andrew it’s amazing to see how much you’ve grown at speaking to the audience since starting RUclips! And yes for more interior videos!
Thanks so much!!
Lol! I finally feel vintigated with our super comfy couches we have in our home theater. We even have two ottomans that have storage for pillows and blankets. We have one couch on a rear risor and one in front. We also have bean bags on the floor in front of the couch ,in front of the screen. The kids love the bean bags.
No head support for watching movies has to be a pass.
Valencia seats is going to hate this video 😂
Jokes aside, the video is helpful for so many but maybe not for me. Not just because I’m an European citizen but also due to my future personal design choices. My next apartment, flat etc is going to be a full on Industrial style home with light or dark wood and lots of black aluminum. Most of the furniture shown doesn’t match my personal taste and the style I’m looking for. Nonetheless again great video (I loved the small humorous touches like Kristis editing credit sound). Have a great day and awesome week ahead of you!
Love the video :) When you are done playing musical chairs with your gear, this is one of your next upgrades along with room treatment. Thank you for the ideas and the refreshing video!
Thanks for making this one... I think a lot of people needed to see this.
Glad it was helpful!
No separate Kristi section…NOOOOOOOO! Haha. Love you guys
Agree, I’m having Kristi withdrawals!
Surprisingly fun episode. Thanks to you both!
The low profile sofas won't wreck my sound stage, but they definitely wreck my back. 😢
Love this kind of video, though!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I find that sofas with backs that hit the low-mid part of your should blades and that aren't too deep (the seat) are the best for low back support. Sofas and chairs with too much of a recline are actually horrible for support.
@@KristiWright I made the connection to low profile causing me problems because my sister has a sofa like that and it kills my back. But after your comment, I think it's that her sofa is too deep. Sitting on it just leaves my legs dangling in the air.
@@alachad Yep, that would definitely cause back issues.
Next time you are there, try sitting with your bottom as close to the back of the sofa as possible. If you must, sit cross legged. See if that helps.
I really appreciate the diversity you guys are providing. I was actually looking to change my setup, you read my mind Andrew. 👍🏼
So glad you found this video helpful or inspiring!
I blind bought a Bellini sectional and I would like to share my take on it. It is a lot lower than a normal sofa and if you have back problems, not good for long viewing or listening sessions. I love the way it looks, but not the way it feels.
I absolutely loved this video! It’s fun to see you dive into design and practicality of necessities in your home theater that can amplify the experience 🙌
Did you like the editing? Bit more fun.
@@robinsonbrand I loved the pop culture clips to really grasp the emotions! The restoration hardware family guy meme absolutely killed me 😂🤣
Great video! Plus, for those that watched every minute of this video...did we just get a brief shot of Kristi on screen? 🙂And yes, I for one would like to see more videos like this that works on improving the listening/watching experience beyond the electronic equipment itself.
Bryan you are the first person to notice that Kristi is actually IN this video!
Good change of pace, informative and great ideas.
Thanks!
It's called a dedicated theater room for a reason.
I love the format! And great point regarding degragaded audio. However, I can't imagine the vast majority of those sofas you recommend being comfortable for most people for more than 20 to 30 minutes... no reclining option, minimal arm rests, and no head/neck support on most.
Best thing I did when building my first dedicated home theater back in 04 was using a sectional instead of theatre chairs even though they were all the rage back then.
Laying around on it with the wife and kids was a great experience rather than sitting in what looked like orthopedic equipment.
First off Happy Father's Day. Secondly, THIS VIDEO WAS AWESOME!!! Yes, more content like this would be heavenly. You guys always have the most amazing videos on RUclips, but this one was above and beyond amazing. The only aspect that was missing is.....as if you didn't see this coming...is Mrs Robinson! Well done, and what a nice change. Have a great Sunday!!
🤩
Thanks Andrew and Kristi! I'm actually in the process of looking for new furniture, in general. So, thank you for the great options!
Our pleasure!
Yea definitely do a part 2. Maybe if you can discuss about an open layout seating with rear channel. How to make those rear channels look visually good and still at ear level
Noted.
Love the video having my media room several years and I’ve wanted an alternative to traditional theatre seats!
I've always thought this way about high-backed "theater seating." It's like the gaming-chairs of the living room. I've always looked at them and thought: "What a waste of 7.X.X surround..." It's nice to finally be vindicated!
I definitely enjoyed the switchup in content. Well done! As always ;)
Yay, thank you!
When we put in a dedicated theater space in our home, my wife’s one rule was that it needed to be practical and comfortable for entertaining. Traditional theater seating was a complete no-go. We bought a LoveSac sectional which has been great. Modular so we can configure it in different ways and washable covers which is a god send since we have kids. 😂
$$$$ though.
Another reason I love in ceiling rear channels that tilt and swivel to aim towards the back of seating area. Works great in open concept rooms many have and the effects are amazing. Our tilting headrests on our couch just broke so we are looking at options good timing on this video
I would've never thought of the Haven sleeper, that's a great option for pulling double duty - chair and a half gives you much more space to sit solo, or close with your S/O.....and it sleeps one. Appreciate you for making this video.
We went for 2x2 of Natuzzi Baltimora. its so comfortable, has a recliner but the head is back by default so you can recline but keep the head clear, so the recliner has an up down, and head has an up and down, so you can sit up or recline, we chose this over cinema seating. We were going for a 3 and 2 seater but worked better with 2x2. love this review.
Great video! Love the fact that you two branch out into design, and thanks for all the research in finding the cool pieces featured in the vid. Plus a spinning Kristi, love it!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE those home theater seats that you recommended at the end. A perfect compromise between traditional theater seating and stylish sofa. I want it!
Just click the "show more" section of the description box and you'll see them all!
I really really enjoyed this video. 👍 Thank you Andrew and Kristi ✌️
Glad you enjoyed it
The West Elm Harris reclining chair is my favorite non-home theater-theater chair. Beautiful and equally comfortable!
Great video. there is a lack of videos looking at this big part of our listening experience. I struggled to find a good 2 seater and would love a part 2 to see more solutions. I loved the 2 seaters you had already recommended and would love to hear more! Thank you again to both of you for amazing work
That wade logan sofa is exactly what I need for my theatre room. Ill just get two!!
Brilliant idea for a video. Watching it now. Just have two ultra comfortable couches in our small theater room.
Thanks Harry! I have a feeling this one is going to be a little different. Hopefully you have as much fun with it as we did making it!
Definitely was not expecting that "KO" in the movie theaters during this chair review!! Lol 😅
Love the expansion of topics into design and decor. Super interesting to me and I hope you keep ‘em coming.
Also, nice to see you, Kristi!
I love recliner lounges and armchairs for a lounge room theatre setup. It sits perfectly between theatre style seating and a normal lounge (couch). I also have a more elevated rear speaker set up, point down toward the lounge to compensate for the taller back.
You video timing couldn’t be more perfect !!! We close our home next month and I hate recliners and will actually put a good sectional in our home theatre !!!!
Great episode! I have only ever had couches in my home theatre - principally a custom half circle sectional that my wife picked out in 2003 and that continues to be our oasis. Have toyed with idea of home theatre seating multiple times but she loves to stretch out on the couch and often dozes off during a double feature so likely if we replace it will be with another couch.
GREAT video! Thanks for the great recommendations; please continue with this type of content! ❤
I’ve been watching movies on a beautifully tufted camel leather mid century modern couch for the past 10 years. I’m ready to ascend to the next level. I’m ready for a couch with cup holders!
I have an eames in dark wood with black leather. It's the best listening chair I've ever owned hands down
Great video,I have been looking at sofas, for last few months for our HT room. I definitely saw a few that will work. Thanks again for a video like this!
Please do a part 2! I’m intrigued on upgrading my space
Thanks for this refresher video !! I have a recliner as my mlp chair which the back is not too high,I can see all bed layer speakers with no obstruction so I hear everything from all speakers.
So long as the cushion(s) aren't obstructing your ears or rise above eye level you're most likely fine.
Good ideas. Who knew?! Who thought?! Well done.
Add the swivel barrel chairs. I like those!!
Wow, great video. You have hit on what I’ve been thinking for years. Great content andrew
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have a high back leather recliner. I will agree that the smooth leather high back has a slight problem with reflections. I just put a blanket behind my head to absorb the reflections. My sound stage is wide, focused, and holographic. I will not be giving up my recliner.
Concur.
I actually like the reflections (boost in treble). I do mind the fact the rear soundstage is compromised though.
We love music, movies and interior design in our house. 100% agree with all the point made. The memes also genuinely had us laughing. Great job on this one.
Honorable mention to the Austin swivel lounge chair from West Elm. We have the leather version. Super comfy, you sink right in and supports the neck.
I don't understand why so many 'theatre' seating options have giant, high headrests.
Nobody seems to offer the comfort of these big reclining options with a trimmed down headrest.
Great video. Refreshing change of pace. Also, wifey actually put down her phone and watched the entire video with me and she loved it. Super cool. Thank you both 😎🙌🏼
That is awesome!
Please (and thank you) remember to give the video a like!
Loved the video, along with your content in general. Most home theater enthusiasts are constantly looking for that next upgrade (or is it just me?), so I think expanding beyond hardware to the broader environment is a great change of pace!
Like the content. I've been looking at theatre seating by valencia. You've kinds swayed me otherwise now... finding comfort is harder than it seems.
Absolutely enjoyed that. The home theatre and entertainment market is so much larger than simply speakers, amps, dacs and TV's. Furniture plays a huge part of the experience. Bring on more stuff like it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video, as always, Andrew and Kristi. Thanks so much. I’m about 1-3 weeks ahead of some of these. Ordered my Anthem receiver the week before your review and our Peyton sectional from Crate and Barrel for our theater room shows up tomorrow. Love the videos and will be referring to many of them before future purchases.
Yes, bring back the sectional!!
Huzzah!
Man I love my theater chairs I have 6 in 2 rows of 3. Yes its in a dedicated room. The head rest us tall but I and most guests and family typically recline and it becomes a non-issue for surround soundstage. Good test is the Dolby Atmos test tracks like Amaze. Nothing wrong with couches or sectionals but they don’t have the same comfort, like the ability to recline.
Laughed at the retirement center comment.🤣
😍..took the risk with that one...Hopefully no one is offended !
So glad you liked our sense of humor.
@@KristiWright It's funny. Nothing wrong with avoiding an institutional look in one's own home.
Never had theater seating. Had family and friends that had it and I never understood it. I prefer minimalism when it comes to that kind of thing, and it shows with a small couch and two small chairs on the side. I don’t need anything else to enjoy movies or music. Now if I had a separate, dedicated theater room, that’s a different story. I would consider it if I’m building one in the house, but in my living space, nah. Great video! Kristi should co-write/write more episodes all together.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. I’m thoroughly enjoying mine! 😅
This is just fantastic! I hope you do a follow up!!!!❤ Well done to the both of you. Excellent video idea!
Thanks so much!
Yes, thank you for exploring other options for expanding the home theater concept. I have a fusion mancave/theater layout, but designed more for comfort and casual living. Sectionals and recliners (with tables for snacks) are the way to go.
You get it! Thanks for sharing!
@1:52 This is crazy! Honestly, I thought to myself “well this will be a fun placebo experiment, can’t wait to read the comments on this one” It actually made a drastic difference!
Been there and learned the hard way. Thanks for letting new audiophiles know. 👍
You bet!
Really like this content. Please do more.
Roger That!
Greatly useful information. Thanks.
Loved the video. Very fun and light hearted
Hey Samuel! Thanks for watching. We had fun with it!
As Always, I love you guys ... Fun, Usefull and pertinent information making life that much more enjoyable. Stan Man
Thank you, Stan Man!
Great video! I really like it when you share your perspective on design, home decor, furniture, etc. on top of audio and video equipment.
Glad you liked it!
