- The Cambridge Pro Bono Project (CPP) hosted this lecture in the CPP Colloquium Series, supported by the Centre for Public Law. The lecture was given by Professor John Corvino, at the Faculty of Law on 20 November 2017. He spoke about 'Conscience, Religious Accommodations, and Religious Exemptions'.

John Corvino is Professor of Philosophy and the incoming Dean of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, USA. He is the author of numerous articles, as well as three books from Oxford University Press: Debating Same-Sex Marriage (with Maggie Gallagher, 2012), What's Wrong with Homosexuality? (2013), and Debating Religious Liberty and Discrimination (with Ryan T. Anderson and Sherif Girgis, 2017). He has lectured at over 250 campuses on topics of sexuality, marriage, and ethics. Brilliant! As Corvino states in his conclusion, the values we aim to espouse and defend are not always compatible. Not everyone will be 100% satisfied all of the time. What I appreciate in his presentation is his commitment to clarity and to unpacking what's at stake in the arguments. Does he claim to be impartial? Not in the least. He simply defends his position. What probably gets on his critics' nerves (see other comments) is the strength of his reasoning and feeling argumentatively 'pinned to the mat', conquered, and, like is done with an un-housebroken dog, made to smell the stink of one's own bigotry, intolerance and just downright nastiness. Yeah, Mr Corvino!

John Corvino is a superb never-seen-before mediatic phenomenon deserving a criterious sense of psychology and politics. His unparallelled expertise in sophistry is stounding. Sometimes he stands out as a stand-up comedian philosophing sophisms like a quick thought-juggler entertaining adolescent psyches, sometimes he captivates even his enemies with a sense of exquisite, shocking serenpendity. He reflects perfectly and brilliantly the core reality not only of the transmediatic society ideological appeals, but also of the post-most modern collective mind of masses and the core narcissistically ethically embelishment ideological treatmet of the universal political spirit of our times. His aura is magnetic and charismatic. He has designed himself to excel himself in such a most perfect balance between mediatic appeals and ideologies that seems pure artificial intelligence mirroring the matrix of the New Order.
Can you tell me why I am drawn by professor John Corvino? I like to freeze his videos only to see his A.I.-like ventriloquist's phisiognomy. Call it political ventriloquism, media ventriloquism, sophist mediatic ventriloquism. I call John Corvino the most sophist mediatic ideological ventriloquist of this age.

Who besides only professor John Corvino represents so exactly the core of tertiary education and its ongoing now-future?
Hitler reborn? What would this look like today? Hitler would instantly discern and respond adequately to the present zeitgeist. He would not come again to kill like a Caesar. He would be much more like a developed emperor Constantine. No. He would be like John Corvino: redeemer, consoler, cajoler, sophistic, mass-oracular, transmediatically sex appealing, sexologist, physically fit, ventriloquistically eloquent, self-designed, yes-no philosophically ambiguous, people-oriented, charismatic, gay friendly, etc... Ideologies have been largely used as a narcissistic ethical falacious embelishment make-up. The luciferian spirit of Hitler would come not killing Jews and throwing christians into the furnaces. He would create such an ideological and political pressure that the social context would directly and indirectly force you to deny your faith to be politically correct and sociologically acceptable. The new present Collesium doesn't have real lions today. Alhtough the chip is also a yield of this commercial transmediatic ideological narcissistic anthropocentric culture worldwide. It appeals to the beast more than to the spirit in us.
I'm a gay writer and filmmaker. I don't understand businesses willing to lose revenue due to gay or other factors, but I also don't believe government or courts should dictate what a business does. It's a slippery slope. The government needs to protect citizens' physical well-being and not so much for emotional. Be offended if you must.
All good, as long as person can be denied goods or services because of their religious beliefs. Equality should be universal

Here I am watching trying to be open and see and learn something different.... but nah...don't want to learn hate and judgment without Discernment . With that said I always say....we all have opinions but that doesn't mean we have to take others opinions on as our own...it's called being an individual with freedom of thought choice decisions beliefs
The state law is never above Gods law. And that’s what you Sir, need to understand about Christians. Another thing- as a professor, you are terrible at hiding your own views and political stance. You should be forced to resign.
Then go live in Afghanistan if you want to live in a society that puts belief in the supernatural above everything else. Do you know anything about the secular foundation of the American Republic? What planet do you live on?
