I'm a born and raised east coast New Englander, but did live in Tacoma in the mid-80s - 72nd Street East to be exact. I remember going to the Puyallup Fair and having the best time. I only lived in Washington St. for about 3 years, but really enjoyed my time there. I also worked at Kidder Waterski in Auburn for a couple years. Great state for sure. One of the most beautiful in the world.
If you were born and raised in Puyallup 50 years ago you would know what a real small town was like. Downtown was great and the fair was the "Puyallup" Fair. It was safe, everyone knew every family, the berry fields were all over where kids learned to work and one high school. When they cut 167 through the valley then everything changed. South Hill, which these two don't mentioned, turned into a mass of congestion and crime. South Hill was basically hillbilly hill with turkey and chicken farms and wonderful landscape. The valley is nothing but congestion and warehouses. This lady's store was the center of retail - it was the JC Penny Store. I know things do not stay the same but this was forced by the politicians to unilaterally punch the freeway through the center of the valley and a lot was lost. Where are the daffodil fields? Where are the strawberry, blueberry fields, where are the bulb fields, where are the rhubarb fields. All under concrete. The daffodils for the parade have to now be trucked in from other parts of the state. Just remember, the Puyallup Valley once had the best soil for plants, flowers, etc. outside of Belgium. Belgium still have theirs but Puyallup has discarded theirs for concrete, warehouses and sprawl. Congratulations.
We lived in Puyallup from March 1970 to December 1980. A lot has changed since then. Do you know where the park & ride lot is by South Hill Mall? That's where my house used to be. 10422 94th Ave E.
I heard that 20 yrs ago there were bumper stickers that said ‘I Survived Meridian.’ (Traffic). It is worse today. If you are thinking of moving here, don’t do it. You’ll be trapped due to lack of roads. There’s nothing to do. Few arts for kids. I recommend KC or east coast.
I opened a business, The Mailbox, at Meridian and 120th on the South Hill in 1985. Back then Meridian was a two lane road with dirt shoulders. Traffic was actually better back then compared to when I closed my business in 2008.
this is not true any more. Lots of TRAFFIC can't get anywhere!! Schools are overcrowded. Puyallup better get their act together or the Pierce County Council will ruin this place FOREVER
Pine Rocks Don't listen to these comments. I love my town, born and raised. After I spent some time in the Midwest (US) where it's flat as a pancake I realized how much I love our mountains. I can see Mt. Rainer from my house (if it's a clear day) Really close to good hiking trails. The fair isn't much to right home about except for the food. The traffic sucks, and there's an infestation of homeless drug addicts now, so just stay away from downtown. (Where these two businesses are) but it's not all that bad. I never felt unsafe. And most importantly, unlike London we can carry knives and guns on the street.
Been drunk way to many times on top of roger and woodland elementary. It’s not bad in puyallup but if you work in Seattle move there you make life bad with traffic. Also gangs are coming around crip cuh
I love the Seattle area. Chatted with 2 attractive friendly ladies on a dating site from there who liked me. I was too poor to move 4,000 miles thou. I know Puyallup from the game Shadowrun, its set about 40 yrs in the future.
Born and raised in Puyallup, and so were my children. Puyallup now is being over run with bums and tweekers. Just go to the downtown 711 you'll see it.
Let me guess..right-wing nut...get a life. Learn to have tolerance and try practicing being a giver not a taker. Mite be hard for you to do...their is alternatives to helping homeless/mentally disabled...think outside the box...I hope U don't belong to no church cause I smell a judgmental double standard hypocripcy. Repub motto right there.

They were talking about the school district and I was like, “they aren’t going to feature my school” but the healing did. Woodlands hotdogs are green.
I grew up here in buckley, it changed a lot. In my opinion its still a great place but its not what it used to be, everything changes.
