I am amazed at the change in archery since I started shooting at age four with my elder sister, this was at the start of the fifties when really archery had not got started again after the war. My moyher and father started up whatbturned out to best one of the bigest archery clubs in England ,The St. Johns,s Bowmen. My father a master carpenter and joiner made every bit of equipment we had including arm guards and finger tabs or gloves. As children we had a shortend version of a long bow, so even our small bows pack a fare punch, and gave us the ability to shoot 50 to 60 yards. I moved to Australia in 1980 and soon found an archer club in our area, where my children all shoot alo g side me. Having completed the whole feta target shoot list and still progressing, i was hit a blowcwhen I found out that I had a form of cancer of the bone which started in my shoulders. This put pay to my compation shooting for good, and to this dayI still miss the fun I had at this sport. Having moved up the ladder as I grew up, of course I ended up using a full size and weight long bow 70 to 85 lbs. My family in England still shoot each weekend as my sister has a fare bit of ground so their range in right in their back yard. I look at all the modern equipment, and having used it myself a Portland Marksman which I found to be a lovely bow, but id did make sure that I kept my long bow skills up as well as I feel there is no substitute for good old archery skills where eyesight and manpower did the job at 150 yards, boy did those targets look small. A wonderful sport i would advise anyone looking for a good clean sport that this I am sure leads the way.

Sarah’s release surprises me, she seems to be punching the trigger on that thumb release. Not sure I’ve ever seen that among competitive shooters but hey she won so whatever works. I was surprised by the use of the index release as well, definitely not very common in competitions.
I have watched many competitions - indoor, outdoor, men, women and notice that there are many different distances. The announcers NEVER tell us the distance for the competition. They just assume that everyone watching knows, but that leaves guys like me out who are trying to learn more. As an amateur, distance really matters!
I thought you could use light kits in hunter class as well, as long as the sight was not moved during the competition(fixed pins, or a slider that was locked down) This may only be true in IBO 3D archery...or I could be wrong there too. I couldn't imagine it being illegal though. What difference does it make how bright or dull your pins were?
I like where there is very open discussion on how the archers profit by sponsorship. $$ are the equivalent of seeing a hunter go home with the quarter of the kill over the shoulder.
Why the constant babble of how much the girls stand to win??? Christ sake we get it - they are pro shooters talk about their actions, release technique FPS of the arrow, bow speed, what tune on the gear etc....
Okay, every time I watch these, I wish the announcer guy would go away. Seems like a great guy, but a more professional delivery and better interview approach would be nice, especially for the archers. This is my professional opinion. Not my personal one.
I loved watching the women compete but I really wish an arrow would have went rogue and shot all the commentators, ESPECIALLY the guy in the hat because he was the most annoying. I mean the commentators are pretty much useless except for the stating the obvious like the woman commentator stated that 3 arrows are what decide the fate of who wins. I am glad that she stated that because I was completely lost on what they were using to score points. Thought may be it was how well they stared at the target.
but this is a compound competition.. It would only be cheating if they used this bow in lets say a recurve competition, which wouldnt be allowed... These bows are the cutting edge of archery technology, for some people that is their niche, and they deserve to be able compete with each other.
I love when these dumbasses come on here who have never shot a bow in their entire life, just to talk shit about compound bows. People compete with recurves, and people compete with compounds. The parameters of the game change for each. If you think shooting a compound bow is so easy, by all means get out there and dominate at these tournaments and show us how it is done.

Get a trigger and pull hard into the wall and see how nice the accuracy is.
