In order for a building material to be comparable to asbestos for its applications for when it was legal, you need a material that can break down to microscopic size while still being resistant to sound, temperature, chemicals, vibrations, and on top of all of that, cheap and readily available. Asbestos was a miracle mineral because it could absorb vibrations without breaking down, was an extremely impressive for fireproofing, insulation, floortile and roofing materials as well as most mechanical rooms and boiler rooms. The problem, of course, is that when it is reduced to powder and it is breathed in, the problem isn't necessarily the outcome. We know that some amount of inhaled asbestos will cause you to get cancer or asbestosis, both horrifying. Technically, small amounts of asbestos are allowed to be breathed, but NO level of asbestos inhalation is "safe". This is because the latency period between exposure and disease is 10-30 years. Better safe than sorry, most applications using asbestos have been banned. Most of the people that are greatly affected by asbestos worked in construction or at the asbestos processing plants and mines, where the stuff coated everything (people were bathing in the stuff!) Fun fact! You can still buy asbestos floor tile in stores! Completely unbanned for resilient floor coverings.
Jorbs you do have a point we did seem to stumble onto every building material that will kill us all within about 100 years of each other. Asphalt is probably the best thing we have ever created when it comes to building materials that won't kill us, and is recyclable.
1:05:57 i can only assume it calculated that it's dealing no damage to you and would die before it could deal any damage with just 1 more poison applied... but that's such a specific thing to check i'd be very surprised if they actually ran the numbers on that for all relevant relics/interactions
There’s a problem with all miracle building material that are like plastic. A miracle building material is long lasting and chemically neutral… directly causes the microplastics problem by not breaking down in the environment.
I usually stay away from crippling cloud i just never feel like i can justify spending 2 mana on a little bit of poison and aoe weak. Maybe this is where i could improve as a player is really analyze my card evaluations thanks jeorbs
I found that when I went from bad to okay at silent, I started to become really harsh on cards that weren't blade dance, footwork, burst, or catalyst. As I got better I started to realize that not every card you click on needs to be insane, and crippling cloud is a great example of that. It's a solid A or B+ tier card as the commentor above stated. I think in games like this it's very easy to let perfect become the enemy of good

The problem with asbestos, much like fossil fuels, is that it is extremely good. It's just also extremely bad.
@@aidanwarren4980 id say that fossil fuels arent extremely bad

I feel like it largely stems from discovering most things we ever discovered in the last 150 years

Asphalt is good. Steel reinforced concrete is very good too though. Yes, it could kill you if it falls on you. But so could a boiling vat of Asphalt.
@@ZandarKoad that's up there, but I personally think asphalt is better because of the 99% recycle rate.
Can't wait to see how carbon nano tubes will kill us.

I call chips "chippies" all the time. Seriously underrated.
asking the real questions here. is "girls just wanna have fun" about being trans or is it about 9/11?

Cloud is scaling aoe defense along with a deal 20 damage over 6 turns. 2 mana is a steal
