- Hi everyone welcome to my channel. I'm a Union carpenter who loves to tinker with with everything I can get my hands on.
In this video I will bring you through the process of removing the engine from my 2010 RAV4. We are doing this to swap the Transmission to solve my shuttering problem. Love that you were willing to take that on. I’m a gal that loves both mechanical and carpentry stuff too. Willing to learn anything and understand things so I can’t be taken advantage of by shady operators, not to mention saving money. I can’t wait to hear what was wrong. I found this because my nephew has a RAV4 which has a whining tranny when cold (Minnesota cold).

Your skill and energy are amazing! So far, I can avoid the rear-end vibration by keeping the transmission in "3" for city driving (under 50 mph). When I drive at highway speeds (over 50 mph), I shift into "D". My 2010 Rav4 performs perfectly in both gears. I may start experiencing a vibration in "3" as you have. Hope not. Everyone's experience seems to be slightly different.
I’m having the same exact issue, and I just bought the vehicle! We took it back to the place we bought it from and they changed the fluid, and it’s still making the noise. The fluid is clean still so idk what to do... I’m kinda freaking since I have to pay payments on this car, I cannot afford at all 3,000 for a new transmission. Let alone 1,500 for a used one.! Idk what to do. The dealership fixed a recall the other day too, and basically told us they can’t figure it out either.

Converter thay are known for that bought a 2011 rav4 limited has 42,893 miles on it got a new JDM transmission $3,439 8hrs of work and it works good
Hi i have 07 rav4 that have same noise u describing but when i put trans in neutral the noise stays which telling me not the transmission what do i need to check other than trans and wheel bearings noise only happen above 25 to 30 mph to 50 mph
That's strange I decently didn't have the problem in Neutral
Similar issue on my 2011. Shifts fine but it has that shudder noise around 35-40 mph. Pretty classic Torque Converter issue. Dealership says I need a $6k new Transmission. I'm skeptical especially after reading how many Toyotas have TC issues-- Camrys actually had a recall with the same Engine(and transmission i believe). Will probably be my last Toyota if I have to replace the entire Transmission. I have never had to replace a Transmission and I've ALWAYS bought older used cars. Funny that the illustrious Toyota is the one i had issues with. O by the way... A 2009 Escape with 236k miles is in my driveway. Original engine and trans and shifts and runs great. Hope your Rav is working ok.
Toyota makes the best vehicles and it’s not even close. Stick with Toyota!
How much did the bone yard transmission cost?
I have a 2011 rav4 and it has the same noise
I talked to a couple of mechanics and they say that is normal ,because the car is a 4WD ,that is made for tough terrain
And I checked. The owner's manual on page 846
And is says , you may occasionally notice light knocking for a short time while accelerating or driving uphill.
This is normal and there is no need for concern.
So I'll just leave it the way it is

Question: can you replace the transmission without taking out the engine off the car?

Is very simple remove just the transmission. You should change the transmission fluid and filter and clean the solenoid s Before you decided to install another transmission. I have the same car a 2008 and a 2010 both with the same problem so I serviced them and now I’m happy 4 years ago I performed this job.
My transmission have black fluid and smell like burned oil but still running without noise I don't know what to do my car have 120 k mi, and yours? :(.... I'll maybe sell the car before it get worst

4 cylinders I think is a 2.5L

Maybe a scan tool would have save you time.
We have a scan tool, the problem was that my car wasn't flashing a code.
