I wonder how Oneplus makes revenue by making the phone cheaper than other flagships such as Samsung S9/S9+ or the iPhone X, despite having the features and quality of these flagships. Is it due to cheaper parts and labor? Or are companies like Apple and Samsung just simply charging more for their phones?

Introducing Crack (TM). With crack, your iPhone will be covered by 3D texture of random lines for a even more beautiful design. Note: the crak feature may reduce the chassis durability and resistance to impacts.
That's why one shouldn't generalize everything made in China, or any other country for that matter. Sure there are shoddy products, and there are great products. Same goes for everywhere on the planet.
I love seeing the manufacturing and QA processes, as I spent ten years in the field, so thank you for taking the time to put this together in fairly strong detail - well done! Linus, next time you're in China, please learn how to say "excuse me", "please" and "thank you" in either Cantonese or Mandarin. Its respectful to the locals and the companies will love you for showing some basic courtesy and good manners. I hate to nitpick, but I cringed at a couple of points in the video.
I'm not Chinese but I noticed the cringe points in this video too. Linus uses American style humor. I want to point out that Linus wasn't making fun of that guy with socks and sandals. Socks and sandals are what Linus loves to wear.
Becareful some users have reported the battery catching fire after getting dropped on the edge and squishing one of the batterys essential cable Nah I'm messin with ya 😂😂
Wow! No other words can convey the feelings surrounding watching this video. The level of testing these phones go through is quite impressive. All phones should be this Precise. I really enjoyed watching this video. I love watching behind the scenes videos. It helps to put things into perspective, for these devices that can be taken for granted just riding around our pockets. Thanks Linus for this and thanks to OnePlus for allowing all of us a peek into their process.
I bought a OnePlus One back in early 2015 shortly after watching a review of it by Barnacules. I had recently read an article about how different the phone industries were in the rest of the world from the US. Combining the two and hearing about a limited sale (64gb OPO for $175) I bought it. After some shipping issues, I got it. It took me a while to get used to the phone. I was going from iP4s to Android (CyanogenMod). The rest of my family all uses iOS and I will never go back. OPO is the best cell phone I've had and I say that mostly in terms of longevity. I ordered it with the optional additional screen protector. It was rather easy to install (my first). The screen protector has been the only fatality. I was one of those people that put the phone in my back pocket, usually didn't sit on it. But one day i pulled my phone out to see what looked like a cracked screen. Thankfully it was just the additional layer. A couple years have gone by since that and I rarely use a case (headphone jack clearance). It's slowed down a bit, has to be rebooted at least once a week but it's still good. I still own every cellphone I've ever owned dating back to 2000. I've never used a phone nearly this long. I'm going on 3.5 years and it could be 4 for this one. This is my first "flagship" phone. I like the idea of buying a high quality/featured phone, now, as their technology provides quite a bit of future proofing (upgrade savings). As we approach the next network generations I'll be look at OnePlus again for my next phone.
MindCrime Good to go.. I've bought & used all the oneplus variants except OP5T.. The new OP6 is fluid as it could be.. Great stuff 😎 and this video tells why it's awesome 👍
I used my Galaxy Note 2 for 4,5 years. Never a hardware failure whatsoever. Never replaced the battery, still give me 3 hrs SOT the last day I use it. Changed to OnePlus3T because the Note 2 became slow, which is understandable because softwares/apps demand more processing power overtime. My Galaxy Note 2 is the record holder so far, followed by my HTC Desire (2 years, top speaker failure once) and this OP3T at 1 year 6 months (no failure, yet).
My OPO just died. It started to reboot until at one point it refuses to turn on or even charge at all. I liked the phone but the audio quality was for whatever reason overboosted the high end stuff, very annoying. The OP3 sounds way better (which yeah what I got to replace it.) Still prefer a front facing sensor though.
You might want to look into rooting and installing custom roms for it, then it'll probably last another year or two until the battery is basically dead or it can't support modern software well enough.
this is my new favorite video from linus. its always cool to see inside some of the major manufacturers assembly and testing labs. oneplus looks like a transparent company to me, the consumer and that is what we need to see more of.
Search that squeaky voiced character is one of the best RUclipsrs out there Also of course Apple won't let any RUclipsr tour their factorys Apple wants to maintain secrecy about the inner workings of an iPhone Because they want you to think that it's magic
ryan seguira They don't manufacture their own Pixel phones, however. For instance, the Pixel 2 XL is manufactured by LG. The first units really lacked quality control.
And how would you even know? Which other electronic company has publicly revealed to have this amount of manpower, machinery and other resources committed to every single phones quality control? OnePlus is clearly trying to show how they stand out from competitors in this area, by welcoming visitors such as Linus here to visit. I have seen many ads of electronic companies claiming they have good quality control, but none of them have proven they have the extensive and meticulous process like OnePlus.
good job. even though apple can sometimes make good products for a reasonable price (pfttt rarely) you will save tons of money buying other stuff. although they make pretty decent products (like 55% of the time) if you buy them. coming from a samsung fan
These poor people are doing this job as this small white man talks a foreign language to a device behind the workers and points at the items they touch as they were told by their boss not to pay attention
Ya honestly it kind of made me cringe imagining if some hyperactive stranger came in my office pointing at all the things im doing yelling into a camera in a strange language after my boss told me I had to not pay attention because it would make the company look bad and would slow down my pace.. I'd personally really really hate that.. ugh itd be even worse if my coworkers were right next to me trying to do the same thing, why not have it be even a bit more awkward?
Such a fun video. Like How It's Made, Linus style. Very cool. Watching from a 6t where they probably streamlined this process even better for my phone :)
This was very interesting. I thought that production itself is more automated, but I guess it would be too hard to achieve considering how often new models are released (and all machines have to be changed / reprogrammed / recalibrated for each new model). I must say I'm quite impressed by the level of testing (and this is coming from a guy who used to work as a production tester designer).
Thank You, Linus, This Video was very enjoyable to watch, I really hope you could get more of these made in the future. Maybe a motherboard, or video card, or even a PSU manufacture could be done.
I purchased a one plus 6 because I needed to replace my old phone. When you consider Priced, Quality and Features it seemed like an amazing deal compared to their competitors like Iphone and Samsung. And It was, the phone held up in every way, and it just looks better, it feels better to use and it honestly runs better than my wifes Galaxy S9+ it runs considerably better.

13:50 I wouldn't be that enthusiastic Linus, that machine will steal your job.
bladudemovies it probably should steal this type of jobs so you can work harder on educate yourself and find a better job
Yeah, Apple obviously doesn't do those drop tests.
Nah, it's just their business formula to squeeze your pocket. I rather have Google Pixel/Samsung/OP/LG/Nokia even XiaoMi than iPhone.

Only towards the workers in those factories!
Trying to make them phones Linus proof
12:46 "Out of my way.. I'm a professional."
As someone who has worked in smaller scale manufacturing, this is impressive to watch. So many custom rigs and fixtures...
I love me some custom fixtures
13:34 hey look! A mechanical Linus!
cuz he drops his shit all the time?? :D
Exactly lol. I mean, he even put the darn phone on his head lol
A mechanical ass....
And yet you're here.
C'est la vie!
I've been thinking about ordering the OnePlus 6....i think I'm convinced. Great video
No wait the onplus 6t is on its way very soon
"Drop from 1.8 m" *Linus puts it on the head and is only 1.67 m*
Fantastic quality control, I usually feel uneasy about Chinese (from Chinese companies) products, but not anymore with One+

That's why one shouldn't generalize everything made in China, or any other country for that matter. Sure there are shoddy products, and there are great products. Same goes for everywhere on the planet.
Rocking my op5 like it's day one. These things hold and kick ass 24/7
Plot Twist: Linus gets employed to drop test them
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love seeing the manufacturing and QA processes, as I spent ten years in the field, so thank you for taking the time to put this together in fairly strong detail - well done!
Linus, next time you're in China, please learn how to say "excuse me", "please" and "thank you" in either Cantonese or Mandarin. Its respectful to the locals and the companies will love you for showing some basic courtesy and good manners. I hate to nitpick, but I cringed at a couple of points in the video.
Does it look like the workers actually cared?
I'm not Chinese but I noticed the cringe points in this video too. Linus uses American style humor. I want to point out that Linus wasn't making fun of that guy with socks and sandals. Socks and sandals are what Linus loves to wear.
Colgate Advanced White ? This isn’t being about being a SJW, it’s just being polite and having basic manners?

Linus attempts to hit puberty once again
tried to hide it haha.
... but puberty hit him back.
Why they using all those bots for drop tests... Master dropper linus is in the house for dropping out loud :p
Arun Kumar P - He seems to like dropping things.. I think he would volunteer!
Such a good video! Definitely one of my favorites in a while.
HA HA HA HA!! I guarantee Apple has never done a drop test on anything harder than a marshmallow.
they do, but they only accept 95% screen crash rate.
Apple products are not designed to be dropped by the end user ..
Lol kekov: Yeah. its called motorola. or anything that runs android...
F!@#Guilt I mean I’ve dropped my iPhone from 2-4 meters atleast 40 times.
It better don't break mainly, even it falls and breaks the front screen it even works perfect 👌 !!

Lol okay oneplus bot.
Greenmonkey552 Ha!! beep...beep
Lol every major brand does that.
haha low quality
watching on my OnePlus.... awesome video, Linus!
14:09 I wasn't expecting him to take it back out
If this is made in US or Canada, no one can afford this phone... Thank you China.
But they are
Aotuman X your right 👍🏼
Felix T iphone also Made in China,if Made in USA no one can buy it
Felix T then why iPhone cannot be afford?

Apple quality check after assembly: Station 1: Is the screen cracked? No. Okay, quality check done. Ship to customer.
Basti Lift Samsung quality control: is it a iPhone? Nope, pass
I had seen several new iPhone 5 back, top or bottom glass chipped off out from the box when I was working in a phone retail shop...
Samsung's quality check *"Does it catch on fire or explode?"*
"Yes"
*"Pass"*
Opo was legendary
My OPO just died. It started to reboot until at one point it refuses to turn on or even charge at all. I liked the phone but the audio quality was for whatever reason overboosted the high end stuff, very annoying. The OP3 sounds way better (which yeah what I got to replace it.)
Still prefer a front facing sensor though.
Yeah - Transparently in Golden Sample Potemkin Mode...

and why Samsung didn't test Galaxy Note 7 battery and charging ? JUST why
cause apple didn't do that since samsung is copying some details from apple
Because they didn't want to build all the phones again lol
They probably did. But now the testing is way more rigorous to ensure it wont happen again
Cost cutting since they are so cheap

After seeing this video... I'd love to see OnePlus make a Pixel phone with Google
well to bad google want to be stand alone phone brand now lol
ryan seguira
They don't manufacture their own Pixel phones, however. For instance, the Pixel 2 XL is manufactured by LG. The first units really lacked quality control.
Stand Alone Phone Brand.. you won't see them do like Huawei Nexus 6P right? Just Google Pixel. that's what i mean lol
ryan seguira
Got'cha. Yeah, it takes out a some of the incentive to manufacture for them.
LG has the same (if not better) QC process. Still, potential issues can occur. This process does not necessarily ensure the perfect QC.
13:33 Linus never took out that phone, he put in the pocket. *HMMMMMMM*
Goodness me, That's amazing!!! Who want's to start a smartphone company and set all these systems up????
INSANE!!!! totally amazed!
Is it? 🇵🇸
OnePlus has my respect.
you must be easily impressed then, this is standard procedure for all major electronics maker
Bryton Massie ?
You must be pretty gullible.

Sir Antler lol exactly my thoughts
well his jacket does say V.I.P
Ya honestly it kind of made me cringe imagining if some hyperactive stranger came in my office pointing at all the things im doing yelling into a camera in a strange language after my boss told me I had to not pay attention because it would make the company look bad and would slow down my pace.. I'd personally really really hate that.. ugh itd be even worse if my coworkers were right next to me trying to do the same thing, why not have it be even a bit more awkward?
I would laugh, not cringe in that scenario.
They probably give tours all the time. I work in manufacturing and they always having tours.
