    This is way more work than I ever imagined. PCB's are one of those invisible things that get taken for granted by most. I certainly took them for granted until seeing the vast engineering, scientific, and industrial effort that went into making this possible. Truly remarkable!

      @Srirama Murthi, i am sure the military doenst order PCBs from china since they have enough money for inhouse prototyping or more expensive local services.
      Second, if you can afford a Patent you can also buy a CNC PCB engraver from china or you could even DIY build it. There are many tutorials for CNC builds from the wooden to high end steel . Btw even the crappiest is useful and a good learning exercise.
      Also for PCBs you still have the option for Tonertransfer+Etching when CNC is too difficult for you.

    What a great video on the PCB development process. I have often wondered how they can make boards so cheaply when many PCB orders are for small quantities. I know combining multiple orders into one package helps, but that is still amazing considering all the specialized equipment needed. Sadly my other thought is how are they treating all that contaminated water after it been used for PCB manufacturing. I know here in California that was a major concern and one of the reasons PCB manufacturing went overseas. I hope all those young people are protecting themselves.

    Damn first time I've seen this type of pcb production.
    I've seen small scale, home made boards but the looks amazing.
    The copper that's etched is captured somehow? Seems like a lot of waste. I'm guessing it's used for electrolysis at another part?
    I'd love to see how military grade ceramic boards are made.

    Wow, I didn’t think that these very cheap but also essential electrical building part has these many production steps. Economy of scale plays an important role here. But I wonder whether a few steps can be combined.

    • @hankbizzo5
      @hankbizzo5 5 лет назад +9

      From my experience working in the field this is simple production. You should see what goes into real high tech boards.. Work can be done in hundreds of stations. Processes should not be combined to insure best quality..

      What is shown in this video is low volume (a few pieces to a few hundred pieces) production for pilot production or low volume custom board for hobbyists item. For high volume production the flow is much more stream line and automated for speed, eliminate human error and increase precision.

    Most of the video is correct. I did hear one mistake at 2:25. It says "this is an air DRIVEN drill". I have been in the PCB drilling business since 1980 - as a field service engineer and as an applications engineer. High speed spindles use air bearings but they are driven by 3 phase electrical power. The frequency and amplitude of the power is varied to control speed and acceleration of the spindle.

    • @meepk633
      @meepk633 5 лет назад

      Are you sure, man? Look at the size of the air line.

    • @GregSr
      @GregSr 5 лет назад +12

      @@meepk633 Yep - I'm 100% sure. The air is used for the non-contact bearings and for opening and closing the collet. The spindle shaft is completely suspended in air because conventional ball bearings would burn up. I have worked with spindles that spin as fast as 180,000 RPM (3,000 revolutions per SECOND!). The RPM is precisely controlled by the computer (using "closed loop" feedback). The spindle can go from 0 RPM to full speed in about 6 seconds. The extreme speeds are needed for using drill bits down to 0.002" diameter - that's about half the diameter of a human hair. All speed and almost no torque!
