"You only need one job". I think the same way

Yeah, right now companies are looking for high impact engineers. Keep learning people! I'm 7 years in and I'm rushing to get my ccnp and learn automation so I can get the next role (i.e big pay bump).

Thank you for the awesome content! I graduated with by Bachelor’s in IT last September and my goal was to get a data analyst job. When I made that my goal it was a good idea but for a variety of reasons that market is extremely saturated right now. So, a couple months ago I started studying for my CCNA and am going the network engineering route. I don’t regret the time I spent with other technologies though because I think the time I spent with Python and SQL will be useful when it comes to network automation. But, I think it’s important to look at the market and be willing to pivot based on what jobs are available.

Wow so many people are in your exact position! CCNA is the absolute best way to go man. Just keep practicing and do a lot of labs.

Keep learning is something I see most lack. Most rather get on LinkedIn and complain, I choose to keep upskilling and there's the option of freelance if you are a people person

Do you think getting a degree in business informatics is worth it?

Tbh man it’s not the best degree I went through CIS program which was nice but they teach too many things. I think computer science is more respected in the job market if you do plan on getting a degree.

I’m currently enrolled to get my bachelor’s in cybersecurity, do you think it is a good degree to go for?

My son has a B.S. degree in Cybersecurity. He graduated in January. He also has the knowledge and skills to work as a big data analytics guy. He's currently employed as a welder for a ship builder. On the other hand his older brother had just one IT certificate and experience as a minimum wage restaurant greeter during COVID got hired by Amazon with just that one certificate. And now, still without any degree, and way fewer certificates than my son with the degree, is paid $260K by Amazon. Timing is everything.

Cybersecurity is decent I always say CS is the best degree if you want to get into tech. If you are going the university route you need to use internships to your advantage.

@@NetworkWali I think I can give the exact formula for starting a cyber security career.
There are incredible opportunities and recruiters will throw themselves at you offering you big bucks if you possess three things:
job experience, a top Secret Security Clearance, and specific certifications for government & military cyber security.
      So here’s the hack:
      1.) get the bachelor’s degree.
2.) join the Virginia National Guard - specifically to be in their cyber security unit - the only one in the country.
After you’re done with training you’ll have the degree, job experience, a top secret security clearance, and the govt. cyber security certifications.
The National Guard training will have three parts: army basic training (about 10 weeks), then officer leadership school (about 12 more weeks), then cyber security training for the military (about five months). So altogether it will take up a year of your life, but you’ll then be a military veteran (and an officer) which confers additional huge advantages for the rest of your life. The Virginia National Guard will pay your rent or mortgage the entire time you are training with them, in addition to your military pay. After the training they release you back to the civilian world and you’ll be committed to one weekend per month and a two week period once per year - but in this case it’s awesome because the Virginia National Guard organizes an incredible week-long cyber security emergency simulation every year that involves the industry and every government organization. It’s fantastic.
And the cyber security unit is based near D.C. so you can make all kinds of contacts - it’s the best cyber security job market in the country.
And I also think you need to be doing everything on the website “Hack The Box.” And I’m also of the opinion that if you can get a computer science degree with a concentration in cyber security it will be somewhat better than a straight cyber security degree (especially if you finish all the skills I “Hack the Box.”)
But if you do join the Virginia National Guard - Do Not Sign a Contract UNLESS the contract specifically puts you into their cyber security unit. You must see that in black and white on that contract.
As far as additional career advice to get ahead of everyone else, Get the PMP certification to be a certified Project Manager. It’s recognized world wide and the skills you’ll have from obtaining the certification will make you a superstar on any team you get assigned to. Finally, you need the get the book, “The New One Page Project Manager” because that little book translates everything about running projects in the real world into simple stuff that guarantees everyone will think you’re a genius at getting results.

Hell no, the govt just said that u dont need a cyber degree and lowered the barrier for entry. You can do this all with certifications. You should probably do comp sci or information systems or information technology while you get some IT and cyber certifications along the way. You’ll be much more valuable. However this is just my honest and humble opinion. Why get a degree in something that get outdated the more people find new ways to attack? At least with IT there is a networking fundamental that will never change which is also the fundamental that cyber is built on. Computer science also has its fundamentals which can also lead you into IT since it covers operating systems and you’ll likely venture into linux. Info systems teaches you how to leverage existing technology so that you can apply it to business. With all that being said if you pair any of those routes with IT and cyber certifications you’ll be golden. You’ll have a degree and certifications that compliment each other very well without majoring in something you would have learned in your cert studies
