+Gabriel Maroto As someone who grew up in New England, I do find it shocking that people nowadays don't seem to grasp that we, America, were the tiny colony that took on the invincible British Empire (the empire on which the sun never set). While it is true that the British Empire believed itself to be superior to other people and that, as such, it could traverse the world brining "culture to the savages" and looting lesser people of their natural resources in exchange for "the pleasure of English law and order" -- America, was not the British Empire. It was a colony. It fought the impossible battle because it wanted to break away from the British aristocratic, class-based system. Heck, it was the British that funded and kept afloat the American slave system for its own purpose. Many observed that slavery in America was so inefficient and unprofitable in a rapidly industrializing world that it would have never survived as long as it had if the British had not used political influence and financial support to keep it alive. I think the British actually probably wanted America divided in hopes that it would collapse in a bloody civil war (indeed this is what the British did in India and South Africa and Eastern Europe and countless other nations it sought to exploit). Moreover, it was America that pushed the UK out of its seat atop the world order and brought about the LIBERATION of other colonies throughout the world. A quick glance at all the American colonies reveals ... none. And, in fact, we appear to provide more jobs abroad than we do here. And, most tellingly, Puerto Rico, which is currently in default, does not seek independence but rather a CLOSER relationship with the mainland. Ultimately, I understand your view point and what you likely have been taught. I think it does us all a disservice though to lose site of the historical and original design of America. America was exceedingly progressive FOR IT'S (pre-French revolution, pre-enlightenment, pre-industrialization) day. Thus, I think it would be much more accurate for the "evils of the white man" to be more accurately assigned to Europe and not the "white men" who left Europe. It almost reminds me of how people now accuse Donald Trump of "being a part of the corruption he so despises" after he has explained that he "wants to CHANGE the system to get rid of corruption. In short, anyone who really blames America for european history and blames the North for its bloody war to defeat the south, is really saying this: "there is no point in trying to free and empower those who are oppressed, because they will then simply be free and empowered to attack you." Perhaps you disagree, but what am I missing here? My family was oppressed by europeans and came here just as the family of african-american slaves were oppressed by europeans and arrived here, and just as europeans (SPANISH EUROPEANS) showed up in Latin and South America and enslaved the natives. Indeed, it was only a small section of europeans fed up with europe that arrived in New England, New Amsterdam and Pennsylvania, who created an entirely new society. Thus, for education now to blur or entirely misrepresent the distinction between EUROPE and AMERICA, as well as the NORTH and the SOUTH, is no small thing. Ultimately, while America today is far from perfect, it was not a people, it was an idea and its important to remember that people voluntarily left one society to partake in this new idea. Perhaps if we embrace the CONCEPT of America over the people who make it up, we may better be able to move forward and prosper together. Just my two cents. It makes me so happy to actually see a real discussion. I have listened to many podcasts and youtube videos and speeches that used ideology to justify their standpoints- and generally objective, defensive, harsh interactions over superiority. I believe discussions like this are very much needed in today's society and its refreshing to have found this, since it is generally free of bias.

Great panel. I'm glad that people are addressing this and they seem to care so much. I learned something. We have a lot more in common than we think and if we take the time to get to know eachother we'd make better decisions because it does affect us all.
Very well done. Some Americans are getting very educated about racism. It's true that racism has to be defined and discussed in ways that frame it correctly. It may be less confrontational when the discussion is framed in groups so that we can compare ourselves to the larger frame and we can set up objectives for us to achieve. Success can only come when it is possible to measure progress in groups. Feedback is essential between groups by individuals and the language must be understood by all. I miss Obama so much! I think his presidency had some positive things for blacks because I can hear what is being said more clearly and with some people connections are being made which signals a possibility of starting a program that can get a feedback loop working which can progress until the present is recognizable as having improved! There are a lot of excellent points brought up. There is indeed widespread systematic and institutional racism. However, it seems like the focus within the african american community is the point out the systemic inequalities without doing much to address issues at home- children out of wedlock, single mothers, fathers in prison, etc. I would also like to point out that respect is earned, not demanded. If people don't respect you, pointing out statistics won't change how they feel. Shaming them into being politically correct won't change the reality. For example, companies in silicon valley are being bullied to address their supposed diversity problem. However have you noticed the demographics in elite engineering schools that these companies recruit from? The issue is immensely complex and the path forward is not clear to me. However, I do know that the strategy taken by the african american community will not change anything for the next few decades. The african american family unit is broken, and no one in the african american community is bold enough to fix it or to bring attention to it. It is far easier for the leaders to dedicate themselves to social justice and getting a bigger piece of the social welfare pie. Remember that even in socialist/communist countries, the ones who are powerful socially/economically are the ones from good families who work hard. If you can't perfect the "good family" or "hard work" part down, success will continue to be elusive and your community will have no choice but to continue to blame others.
the only way to end racism is to stop forcing different people to live together against their will. give everybody the right to an independent country, a culture and a place to call home. that's the way to real diversity
I really liked this panel. I love the idea of making words into actions, and also communities picking who polices them. heck, make it like a reality TV show even, "Baltimore's next chosen officer!" but theatrics aside, we must be smart about making sure our proposed solutions go in the direction that is truly best for the communities that need them. there is a tendency I'm seeing over time in my limited experience with politics is that despite whatever grassroots efforts the people try to put forward, there is another force, call it the elitists, the status quo maintainers or the racist forces, who will always be seeking to derail or twist the road to solutions for their benefit. one example of this would be community officers meeting their neighborhood for 90 days, and if it's an area that's mainly poc, what the undermining forces will try to still do is things like have the voting day or time or location be somewhere inaccessible to poorer working people. this is why I like my town's mail in ballots with the option of many drop off boxes scattered around the county. or they would have the police voting event at something separate than the yearly ballots, but still have it in a restricted space. so while I like the idea of neighborhoods and small towns getting to meet and choose their police officers, (the new policy) this ability to choose, (the process) needs to make sure it doesn't also undermine the people it's supposed to be intended to benefit for the benefit of those who want to keep things racist. like they said early in the panel, it has a sticking power hinged on a lot of in-between steps, to make sure things are happening more fairly.
The same rhetoric won't solve this issue, people need to realize and understand what's going on in a biblical perspective instead of trying to figure it out with useless conversation. The Most High told you what was going to happen if you broke the covenant that was made with him, just read and study his word, I guarantee you will get a deeper understanding of what is really going on. We're going to have to stop thinking that rhyme and rhetoric will solve problems. Black people are going to have to stop finger popping and singing. Black people are going to have to stop moaning, rocking, crying, complaining and begging. We as blacks are going to have to get over our fear. Black people do not know what's happening, but black people are going to have to learn and understand what is happening. Black people are not thinking, but we're going to have to learn to think. We're not analyzing and planning. Black people do not understand self-respect, but black people are going to have to learn .
+Dewayne Thomas continue- black people are going to have to stop permitting children to play with parenthood. All these behaviors, and many more, have absolutely nothing to do with addressing the challenges and conditions of the open warfare continuously being waged against the black collective. Where there is no vision the people will perish. PROVERBS 22:1. In this struggle against white supremacy, the great leader of the Chinese-speaking non-white people, Chairman Mao Tse-Tung, accurately stated as recorded in The Collective Works Of Mao Tse-Tung, " It is well known that when you do anything, unless you understand its actual circumstances, its nature and its relations to other things, you will not know the laws governing it, or how to do it, or be able to do it well." With this in mind, black peoole everywhere must began to understand the exact and specific nature of the war that is being waged against the black collective.

It's not about what he is costing NFL owners, Colon is representing the "New Elites" Think about motives, they want to tear down monuments and get blacks fighting whites. But who would want that? Why can't anyone see the Elites want them down, the statues were Elites who by their wealth felt they should be allowed the liberty to own people. The Elites will rise again when people forget, globalization and depopulation is the plan. There will only be two sets of people, not race driven, The Elites wealthy and powerful and the worker slaves to the Elites. It's about Genocide of white middle class and black middle class, anyone who will fight them. The rich just want to buy their proper place in the New World Order.
Can anybody boil this down to any specific actions to be taken, any specific statistics that were stated? This is either taking too long to get to or they just arent bringing anything like that up...
He speaks of the "distribution" of wealth in a tone than suggests that wealth is supposed to be evenly spread between all members of a society. Distribution of wealth refers to how that wealth is distributed, not how it should be distributed. Wealth belongs to those who earn it or create it. Wealth is not something you can take from one person and give to another person. That is socialism.
1. Start telling ALL of America’s history. Tell about the part that Blacks and Indians played in revolutionary war. Maybe that America would not have won had they not been there. 2. Stop war on drugs and do prison reform. Need to restore the black family. Also, stop building the justice system on ticket cash. 3. Change the living conditions by offering opportunity... e.g., summer jobs for 1,000 youth, raising the minimum wage to $15
O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). long spring court is already adjudicated that issue it is against the Constitution to discriminate in private and public spaces--you're out of your legal league.
We humans are wired to be naturally drawn towards whom we have the most commonality. it's our natural tendency. Our individuality exists and the commonality within that individuality tends to draw us closer to each other. Unfortunately we are beings that are highly dependent on our senses, thus, we tend to initially get closer to those we physically perceive as more similar to our characteristics. But, we are also rational, thinking and feeling beings. that's why, the longer we know and get in contact with each other, the more we become drawn not anymore primarily based on our physical attributes but to our inner commonality, our perceived common capacity to the same quality of love, friendship, care and so on. This is why social integration through personal interaction is what USA needs and not laws and regulations. Too much laws and regulations alienates us. We all need to know and experience our inner commonality and not limit our thinking to our perceive physical attributes. We need to go out there and meet each other. Our respective racial characteristics - our individuality, physical attributes, culture, belief, and so on - is real and should not be denied. I am of Asian descent and i always appreciate a fellow American recognize that. It is our behavior towards each other that divides us not our race.
+orania_ you can't be serious a advantage is a form of privilege look at the definition. I can't believe there are actual people out here who make comments of pure stupidity. you contradict your own statement. you put yourself in verbal checkmate. and you have the nerve to try to validate your contradiction.
To stop it is to stop downgrading us black kids with stereo types..do u know how bad it hurts to have prisons made just for u and friends because of a mistake someone else made
+Xzavier Sullivan I hear you on that one and can't imagine what is like in your position. It must be awful. If we want to solve that problem though, I'd point out that you can't stop people from thinking something, even if they don't say it. To that end, I'd say perhaps consider taking a listen back to this video, and count how many times your friends were called out for their behavior in this talk. I counted zero references. And what that says to someone like me, is that nobody on the other side of the race issue appears to see any difference between you and your friends either. Indeed, as someone who tries as hard as he can to empathize and keep an open mind, the truth is that it seems these speakers DEMAND that people be treated as a group, rather than individuals. Everything is "communities" or "people of color" or blacks and whites. Those terms make it impossible for someone like me to see you as one person rather than a "person of color". But this is ridiculous because all communities have troublemakers and good folks. How can we as a society call out the bad black folks if white people can't because they'll be accused of racism and black folks choose not to. It appears to create a nice bubble of protection for your friends to create terrible preconceptions of you. I think its critical that there be a joint effort to view people as people, of which there are good people and bad people. To let a bad person act out without calling them out simply because they are black appears to be racist, but then again, that is just from my perspective and I'm a white person who is not racist and definitely doesn't want to be called racist. It's honestly quite hard from this side of the game to keep up with what I am supposed to say and do or not say and not do to avoid the racist label.
I haven't heard any major grievances, only 'luxury problems' like not having police officers sit on your couch and look at your family photos. It's clear that the racism industry and all of the people employed by it have a severe shortage of raw materials. Get a different job, get a different hobby.
WOW!! TALK, TALK, TALK and TALK. WTF!! This is why we can't have a decent open discussion. We are (all) peoples of this world. Own it!! What an embrassment! A white socially, brought up low class person with same up bringing has to (school)come and vocalize what you all really want to say. Stop questioning and being politically correct! Tim - your awesome.
Surveys given to people who do not comprehend the problem but rather "pariot" what they have been told, is of no value in solving the problem. Surveys only help politicians and activists give their constituents what they THINK they want.
12:48 pm Racism in my opinion in it's broadcast sense is: The anillalation of any other race that is not that of yours, to secure that your race does not face extinction.
Let's start with the "usual complaints" being a high-level form of gaslighting. Then move to the preconditioned notion that there's Black people in one corner, and everyone else with their dukes up, pepper spray, and pitch forks in the opposite corner. Now lets take a gander at how we all got here: Land appropriation, colonization, broken treaties, lands stolen, slavery, civil war, post war sharecropping, more broken treaties, Jim Crow Laws, sundown towns, lynch mobs, drowned towns, burned down towns. redlining, forced welfare, forced urban housing, predatory lending practices, police brutality, mass incarceration. Now what was your question about Black people?
He acknowledges very openly that he's privileged. He even has a book about being a privileged son. He realized that very early on in life that certain groups of other people weren't. Hence the reason he became an activist for social justice.
one could argue that the idea of religion is to blame for racism the idea that "god" and how one views "him" is more important than humanity more ppl die in the name of God then all the wars and natural disasters combined at least from a historical stand point granted organized religion has a lot of good ideas on being a good person or that is to say how one in a society should act but that very idea incorages separation and hatred I agree religion was one of the main catalysts that created the "civilized world" but like most things that r out of date things that were important "then" are no longer important and religion is one of them
I think racism is talked about TOO MUCH in this country. To an almost annoying extent! I'm honestly sick of hearing why I'm white and I should guilty. Here's an idea; maybe if you DON'T talk about it so much it just might get better!
If u feel guilty for being white you probably are racist ! Thats like someone getting offended at rapists being ridiculed even tho they aren't "rapist" . But you have no real power so its not your fault you shouldn't feel guilty
@WilliamCarter, I don't think you understand what exactly you are writing, @ Jonathan, no one is born a racist but was thought how to be a racist. It is funny how many people use social media to go crazy, but never want to face the issues face to face. It is funny how ignorant you guys are

Calling it what it is ,correct
+Dewayne Thomas I think they will definitely learn but it probably won't be from a bible js.
Nice talk but in reality it will never happen in our lifetime.
talk talk talk enough fucking talk the only answer is complete separation
How are they defining “racism” here?
No the conversation needs to focus on racism not on all the other non existent issues

Try try and try. The Government won’t respect life for nothing
Well the people who have it didn’t earn it on their own merit.
Undoing racism in american cities? U can't! Nice panel discussion though!
Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things)." - [49:13]
7/15/2024 nothing has changed. In fact, it has gotten worse.
long spring court is already adjudicated that issue it is against the Constitution to discriminate in private and public spaces--you're out of your legal league.
Our respective racial characteristics - our individuality, physical attributes, culture, belief, and so on - is real and should not be
denied.
Monoamine oxidase A The warrior gene and black males. The Thug Gene? - Taki's Magazine A great read.
ALEAST THEIRS A EFFERT HERE !!
Damn Thjs was good
I haven't heard any major grievances, only 'luxury problems' like not having police officers sit on your couch and look at your family photos. It's clear that the racism industry and all of the people employed by it have a severe shortage of raw materials.
Get a different job, get a different hobby.
This conversation should take place in Jamaica, where prejudice makes it extremely difficult for light skinned black humans.

Racism in my opinion in it's broadcast sense is: The anillalation of any other race that is not that of yours, to secure that your race does not face extinction.
Tim has no sense of fashion. Black striped jacket paired with square blue tie underneath a bloated red face?
that matters! lol
What's your point? And who cares about his clothes anyway.
" What's Goin on in America" notin' but the rent.
I wonder how many black people live in Mr. Wise neighborhood... ? I bet he's living in a white community
Instead of the usual complaints, will somebody explain why people avoid black people, their neighbourhoods, their culture?
We don’t all live in the same neighborhood, the world loves and imitates our culture and we are the ones who want to be left alone by others
Race hustling 101
Dam these slippery hustlers and their rac!st conversations.
You can't undue racism , black people are too ingrained in the past 😮
Tim Wise needs to acknowledge his Ashkenazi JEWISH privilege !!!
He acknowledges very openly that he's privileged. He even has a book about being a privileged son. He realized that very early on in life that certain groups of other people weren't. Hence the reason he became an activist for social justice.
Mission Impossible.
one could argue that the idea of religion is to blame for racism
the idea that "god" and how one views "him" is more important than humanity
more ppl die in the name of God
then all the wars and natural disasters combined at least from a historical stand point
granted organized religion has a lot of good ideas on being a good person or that is to say how one in a society should act
but that very idea incorages separation and hatred
I agree religion was one of the main catalysts that created the "civilized world"
but like most things that r out of date things that were important "then" are no longer important
and religion is one of them
I think racism is talked about TOO MUCH in this country.
+Yvng King , EXactly!!
@WilliamCarter, I don't think you understand what exactly you are writing, @ Jonathan, no one is born a racist but was thought how to be a racist. It is funny how many people use social media to go crazy, but never want to face the issues face to face. It is funny how ignorant you guys are
+william carter I love your social media humor
