    I wish I had found this a few weeks ago! My instructor keot asking me which runway to use, and it would take me forever to think through it. Just a couple of days ago.ni figured out that math technique on my own. Great video!

    yeah i am very much a visual hands on thinker and learner so it really makes most sense once you break out those visuals with the compass lay outs thank you so much for this tutorial ! itis very helpful

    So basically you want to land on a runway closest to wind coming directly at you to aid stopping. (also taking in picking asphalt or concrete over rocks or grass surfaces for better stopping / just better for your plane). And your other method when it goes over 9 your just using the reciprocal runways

    You showed easy to figure out scenarios. You land on the runway closest to the wind. What you need to show is more divergent winds rather than just 30 degrees off of heading. For instance runway 5/23 winds 310@ 6KT.

    Yeah, but you left out part of the info you can quickly determine by this method. Left or right pattern based on your position relative to the airport and whether you would be in a better position for entry on the downwind or base. Assuming pattern is up for pilots discretion.

    Doesn't the tower work this out and tell you which runway to land on? Definitely in larger aircraft.

    What if you get a negative number? Example, 28-RWY36=-8
    Still go with lowest?

    Maybe he was thinking about this fun fact about the number 8! Which is why he wasn’t able to complete basic math.
    The number 8 is considered extremely lucky in Chinese culture because it sounds like the word for wealth and prosperity.

      18 gallons fuel - 10 = 20 gallons left. Yeah, we have enough fuel. Unreal!

      Yep, ya caught my error and it's appreciated! The math went wonky there but the approach (pun intended) should be spot on :)

    But the one thing i am concerned with if everybody used this method which is a good choice based on aid of weather then a couple runways would be used as others just wasted.

    I'm sorry I know this video is old, but your math doesn't seem right in that first example 33-18 isn't 8 and 25-7 isn't 8

    I feel like an idiot because I dont get how 33 minus 18 = 8. I'm sure its very easy but I'm missing it like a dullard. I get everything else in principle and its a good lesson though.

    I cant believe people found this helpful , with all incorrect math calculations it's very misleading for new pilot in training, along with not explaining what if you have a negative number.

      Ok I am glad I am not the only one who noticed that! I am HORRIBLE with math (have to pull off my socks to count my toes!), but I thought...wait...25-7 is...18.
