How do we know that SCOTUS aren't about to establish a double standard for deadlines? Judge Cannon has recently given Jack Smith anywhere between 1-3 days to respond to Defendant filings, and giving Trump 2-3 weeks. I have no reason to think SCOTUS will be different.

What kills me about this is that he’s not arguing the fact he’s guilty. He’s arguing that he’s immune to prosecution.
This is still pre trial, it's not time to make his argument on guilt. During the trial the prosecution will present their evidence and the defense has an opportunity to dispute that evidence.
But he's not immune nobody is no matter which country your from.
If he were innocent he wouldn't need immunity. Creepy criminal he is.

It's a valid question, regardless of whether or not you think he's right. You can't have the President subject to criminal penalties for his official acts. What remains to be adjudicated here is whether or not the things he is accused of fall within those official acts. Clearly not every thing a President does is an 'official act'. For example, if he decides to sleep with his wife while in office, that is obviously not a 'power or duty of the President', nor is he acting in his official capacity. Just the same, this is why he is not protected from prosecution if he just walks out of the oval office and randomly shoots someone. But there ARE things he does that are considered part of being the President, and for those things, he is in fact immune.
I vote to put Trump in prison and forget that he ever existed. Let's make America great again.

You obviously didn't read the full ruling from the District of Corruption court. They admitted near the end of their ruling that they KNOW Trump is not asking for absolute immunity. It is qualified immunity because it still can be pierced by an impeachment AND conviction in Congress.
That is how we can know what is happening now related to actual crimes and justice -- or is just a political witch-hunt by a weaponized judiciary against the leading front-runner by far.
It's only after Congress rules that what happened was a true crime and not some political action the party now in power didn't like . . . is to have a President impeached AND convicted. If 2/3 of the Senate vote to impeach you know this was a crime and not just a permitted exercise of Presidential power.
That is.... The billion dollar question. If Trump truly was innocent of all crimes, why is he so desperate to fight for immunity? It is because he knows he is a traitor and has been caught.

I really hate our legal system. Anyone else would be behind bars by now and waiting for their court date there. You wouldn't even be able to file an appeal until convicted and sentenced for crying out loud. Why are we even pretending that this whole fiasco is even a fair example of the American Justice System when we are still finding wrongfully accused people incarcerated for DECADES! This whole thing just makes me furious.
This is an example of unequal justice, one for the rich and powerful and another for the rest of us. Shame on our judicial system.

Here’s the thing: the President DOES have immunity, but it rests with the office, not the person. Like, Obama could not be prosecuted for drone srikes committed under his administration, because they were actions of the President. The issue is that the Stop the Steal rally was a campaign event.

Part of me agrees. The other part thinks the SC should take the case, confirm it quickly and put their stamp on it. This would put into law that NO PRESIDENT would ever have immunity, rather than just in this particular case. It also dots every single i and crosses every single t, so that there's no recourse or screaming from the losing side.

Kirschner seems pretty confident. I think it would be pretty difficult, even for a shady SCOTUS to make a totally ridiculous decision on presidential immunity. It's pretty straightforward, and all judges at all levels have basically laughed it out of court.
Remember, they don't need Trump anymore. They're set for life.

It's because Criminally Traitorous Trump is trying to break it into baby steps of obstruction. He didn't ask for the decision to be reviewed, only the appeals court letting the trial resume if he didn't immediately set himself up for the assumed likely SC fail.

But a good part of it is making sure the presumption of innocence until proven guilty is upheld.
What EXACTLY is Trump charged with?? Insurrection? (no). Doing the same thing with documents as President that Biden did as senator and VP -- and Hillary did as Sec of State (yes). Committing a "fraud" with no victims, with alleged victims testifying on his behalf and saying this was "business normal" and that they would rush to do business with Trump again? (yes). Some old bad that a D+20 jury didn't find credible in the accusation of rape? (yes) . . . But still for some reason found her credible when it came to a lesser crime with zero evidence AND employees of Burgdorf's testifying that such a lapse in "customer service" would never have happened.

The trial court made this an emergency. The trial judge gave Trump only till Tuesday to file his request for a stay, but said trial preparations would continue. The only thing that got stayed is the actual trial. Pray that SCOTUS is sane and refuses to hear the case.

He appointed Jack Smith in November 2022 (right after the Midterms), but underestimated Trump's (and Cannon's) capability to delay.
As frustrating as it is, these things take time and in the case of prosecuting a former President with supposedly vast funds at his disposal, all their ducks need to be in a row and ensure they have the strongest, air tight case they can. If this is rushed, the chances of Trump getting away with it are hugely increased.
SCOTUS needs to have no part of this to have any credibility!
