Getting the mk4 at a discounted close out price seems to be something nobody is talking about. I am considering purchasing a 2nd mk4 as backup or to at some point gift.
I would have mentioned it if I had known. I was under the impression at the time I filmed this it was going away the day this came out. They will be gone soon though so grab the 4 while you can if you want to save a few bucks.

Great comparison. I've been using the MK4 for about 2 yrs. Just bought my son the One & Smoke for Xmas for his new off-set, but as you said the adult in me will continue w/the MK4 for myself. UNLESS my boy starts cooking better BBQ than me:)
I have a Thermapen that is at least 10-12 years old. Had to send it in once for a free repair. Now the battery door is broken but a piece of tape and it is still going strong.
I bought the MK4 2 years ago and love it. I just bought my wife a One, it arrived yesterday. As soon as I got my hands on the new One, I had an excuse to upgrade: My MK4 warranty has expired! Thanks for the info.
Without watching the vid and just by the specs alone I would certainly go for the upgrade. Faster response times and a smaller margin error are always a step in the right direction. Upgrade, UPGRADE EVERYTHING!
I still have the original Thermapen my wife bought for me in 2014 because I wasn't going to spend the $99. Best money she ever spent. Still going strong and dead nits accurate.

If you're going to upgrade your thermapen, get the Thermapen IR, it combines the thermapen Mk4 with a IR gun in one unit, I use mine constantly for everything when I'm cooking.
I saw the ad for the new one and my OCD kicked in... Despite already having a Mk 4 and the Mk 4 with the infrared sensor... I was about to order it.. and like you said, the adult kicked in.. Why? The MK 4 is fantastic. I'll stick with it until one of the Mk 4's fails (and I've never had one fail or even need a battery). Thank you for the honest review.
I'm awaiting my order of this therm up here in Canada, sometime in July. I've got the Classic, so thought what the heck, I'll finally upgrade ;-) Would you happen to know, if the low light sensor will still work with the silicone boot on it? Yeah, totally. It's the "cheapest hammer is the most expensive" theory. The 5 year warranty is a nice change this time around but it's probably a pretty safe bet on their part. They are made so well.

I’m very frugal, but the Thermapen is a luxurious, robust mechanical work of art that is a joy to use and well worth the price. They do go on sale or buy two get one free every once in a while.

It is the most used accessory I have ever purchased and has helped me on every cook since I got my MK4 but now he goes to the bench warmer spot while I break in the One!! #1 for me is the display is so much easier to see!! I love my MK4 that I have owned about 4 years. I also have 3 dots and 3 Chef Alarms. What do I think of ThermoWorks? They make quality products! It will be awhile before I buy a new one. I know where to call when I am ready for an upgrade as I just wouldn’t buy from anyone else.

Do grilled brisket tacos (the best) 1.) Slice raw brisket thin 2.) Season with season all or lawrys 3.) Grill on high heat (watch for flare up's because of high fat content) 4.) Using a clever chop meat (because of toughness) 5.) Serve on grilled corn tortilla (chopped onion, cilantro, lime, and salsa opcional) Creamy green salsa (most people think it has avocado but its a lie) 1.) Grill 5 jalapenos 2 serranos 2 cloves of garlic and a 1/4 onion 2.) Once charred blend everything together 3.) Crucial step slowly drizzle canola oil while blending to emulsify (if oil seperates stop and remove excess oil and reblend) 4.) Add salt to taste (even though it has a lot of peppers it is not a very spicy salsa. Really creamy in texture)

I have a $14 temp pen from Amazon. Every feature discussed/advertised regarding the Thermapen(s) is present on my cheap pen except one. It does not rotate the temp display as you change the thermometer body aspect. Fourteen dollars. I've been using it for over a decade.
It looks great. But I’m extremely happy with my InkBird that already has all the waterproof features of the new Thermopen. Are you going to be posting new vids more often than you have been?
A common problem with the older style is the battery compartment cover has a tendency to break in half through the screw hole. New design resolves that issue. Don't drop and don't over tighten that screw on the older version!
Wasnt there a Thermapen before the Mk4? I have one but it doesn't rotate, uses disc-type batteries and it doesn't have the light sensor. If so, how does mine compare to the ones you have? Your thoughts?

So first off Justin it's always good to see your vids. Next up,you're timing couldn't be any better. My grandfather started teaching me how to grill when I was 5. That was about 57 years ago. Why do I say this? Because we didn't have instaread thermometers back then so learned the hard way meaning I don't use them for steaks,chicken parts,etc. But dammed if they aren't wonderful for roasts,briskets, turkeys, etc. And I recently decided if I can justify a crazy ass propane flamethrower for lighting my fires ( yes it is the grill gun of witch I speak) I might as well as break down and finally get a thermopen. So thanks to you I'll not mess around and place my order for the new one. Thanks. Now back to the grill gun. I wonder just how fast you can toast a marshmallow ? FIRE 🔥🔥🔥😄👍

LOVE my MK4. If it ever breaks I'll upgrade but I think it will last a long time because it seems to be very well made. I bought my sister their DASH Thermometer and it has worked great. When my cheaper wireless smoking thermometer dies I'll be looking at the SMOKE.

You do know Mrs Baby Back maniac watches your videos and you can never throw anything out of the window to get a new one again! I absolutely love Thermopens, they just work each and every time flawlessly. Buy one, cook a chicken breast to temp, you'll never have tasted a chicken breast like it
I just bought a thermal pen MK4 yesterday for close in out price at $69.00. The One was listed at $109.00 before tax. I decided to get a thermal pen because my buddy has one and also my next grill thermometer probe sleeve came off. It was cheap and it was time to get a high quality product.
Is there a reason you would pay over a hundred dollars for those as to some you can get on Amazon for 10.00 mine has lasted for over 3 yrs and I really like it. Thanks for the demonstration but to expensive for this guy.
Reason:=Long term pin point accuracy. If the Chinese ballpark temp reading you're getting with yours works for you, then at ten bucks every three years, it will forever keep you money ahead by a small margin.
As I said on their Instagram post, if they offered this in a camo version, like they have before, I would be all over it. Even though both myself and my lady have the MK4 lol. I bought her the Red and I have the Blue, but I want a camo version!
Great review! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Mk4 and probably won't be upgrading anytime soon. That said, I just gave my sister a Thermapen One for Christmas and she LOVES it as much as I love my Mk4. You really can't go wrong with either!
Love my MK4, no regrets or wishes. That said, Thermoworks (if you're listening) might want to consider a trade in offer. Functionally, the new One is no different than the MK4. It's just all the functionality is a little bit better. As far as the warranty goes, they probably realize that even the MK4 can be covered for 5 years given the known durability. If I thought I was only going to get 2 years out of my MK4, I wouldn't have bought it. Justin - Thanks for the frank and honest review.

Because we didn't have instaread thermometers back then so learned the hard way meaning I don't use them for steaks,chicken parts,etc. But dammed if they aren't wonderful for roasts,briskets, turkeys, etc. And I recently decided if I can justify a crazy ass propane flamethrower for lighting my fires ( yes it is the grill gun of witch I speak) I might as well as break down and finally get a thermopen. So thanks to you I'll not mess around and place my order for the new one. Thanks. Now back to the grill gun. I wonder just how fast you can toast a marshmallow ? FIRE 🔥🔥🔥😄👍
Enjoyed the review Justin but I gotta say that I see no practical difference. I mean... if you need to slow it down to 25% to see a difference then there is no difference.

Have you tried the version with an IR thermometer built in? I really want that one.
It’s great to use on cast iron. Dutch oven cooking got more manageable.
I have a IR gun already so I haven't tried the built in one.
LOVE my MK4. If it ever breaks I'll upgrade but I think it will last a long time because it seems to be very well made. I bought my sister their DASH Thermometer and it has worked great. When my cheaper wireless smoking thermometer dies I'll be looking at the SMOKE.
Yeah they make great products. The price tag isn't cheap but I still think it's a great value for what you get..

I just bought a thermal pen MK4 yesterday for close in out price at $69.00. The One was listed at $109.00 before tax. I decided to get a thermal pen because my buddy has one and also my next grill thermometer probe sleeve came off. It was cheap and it was time to get a high quality product.

Reason:=Long term pin point accuracy. If the Chinese ballpark temp reading you're getting with yours works for you, then at ten bucks every three years, it will forever keep you money ahead by a small margin.

As I said on their Instagram post, if they offered this in a camo version, like they have before, I would be all over it. Even though both myself and my lady have the MK4 lol. I bought her the Red and I have the Blue, but I want a camo version!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Mk4 and probably won't be upgrading anytime soon. That said, I just gave my sister a Thermapen One for Christmas and she LOVES it as much as I love my Mk4. You really can't go wrong with either!
Love my MK4, no regrets or wishes. That said, Thermoworks (if you're listening) might want to consider a trade in offer. Functionally, the new One is no different than the MK4. It's just all the functionality is a little bit better. As far as the warranty goes, they probably realize that even the MK4 can be covered for 5 years given the known durability. If I thought I was only going to get 2 years out of my MK4, I wouldn't have bought it.
