Meowscarada and Flower Trick are my favorite, but I have a special place in my heart for the old 90 BP Aura Sphere. The first Pokemon game I ever owned was Platinum, and the 4th Pokemon I caught in my 1st playthrough was Riolu. I used it so much that I had a Lucario by like level 14. That thing was basically my main for years. I hate missing moves, so a powerful STAB move that can't miss? Plus, most Fighting weak Pokemon have high defense and low special defense, so it's even better.
@@Jlaps941 I just looked it up. I must've gotten my super early Riolu in Floccesy Ranch in White 2, not Platinum. I think I was conflating it with the Lucario I used in the Battle Frontier in Platinum. THAT one was from the gift Riolu Egg you get from Riley on Iron Island.
I adore Flower Trick. Meowscarada really makes the move for me. It’s a performative joy. Strut into the battle, Spotlight, BOOM FLOWER POWER! I love it.
Great Video. I somewhat have a love/hate relationship to Hurricane. If the nado hits and even confuses the target you feel like it's christmas & your birthday combined. Imo this high risk/reward nature would be absolutely fine IF there were any other solid special flying type moves (Crit Roulette and Flichinator are often lackluster). It just feels so bad if you HAVE to take it as main STAB (and even worse when you miss 3 in a row)
Something i learned the hard way about struggle. If you swap a pokemon out and your opponent uses disable on the same turn (at least in gen 3 i think i was playing when i encountered this), it will disable ALL of its moves, forcing it to only get struggle
10:55 I'm just imagining the opponent thinking that their opponent is going to switch, then falls to their knees when getting hit with the last thing they might see on a gastrodon
Big congrats on 10K subs 🎉🥳🎊 fully deserved. My favorite move on this list is areal ace mainly because it saved me form the horrible fog section when I was playing pearl for the first time
That's because Legends Arceus doesn't have flinching or confusion and it needed to give moves that inflict those new effects to compensate for the loss.
I feel like many of these moves are “perfectly serviceable” but outclassed by other moves very often, and without too many super strong evasion pokemon it’s not a valuable enough effect to warrant running.
It is worth mentioning that choice band, arena trap dugtrio will run aerial ace in gen 3/ADV OU to take out heracross and breloom which are both 4x weak to flying. EQ, rock slide, aerial ace and HP bug is kinda the standard set. But yea its crazy that aerial ace actually is an important move for that one mon in one tier lol a fantastic meta game but a single tier regardless
10:21 I used to run Clear Smog on Gengar in Gen 6 Ubers Singles since it was a Legendaries-breaker team and hit Xerneas for SE damage while resetting Geomancy. Used to have a lot of surrenders on Showdown because of it 😂
Instead of breeding/using rng maip to get good hidden powers in Emerald, I'm just doing the battle pike glitch and calling Magical Leaf HP Grass, Shadow Punch HP Ghost and Double Kick HP Fighting etc.
It's a Normal-type move that deals typeless damage. So technically he's right, but he should probably have mentioned the distinction as it's the most interesting part about the move imo
The latis (latios and latias). And that’s the pronunciation dude. Do you think it’s pronounced like “protein”? I’ve heard peoples misconception of how it’s said.
No one uses perfect accuracy moves in smogon since evasion is banned in most formats. Few Pokemon use them and it’s because of sharpness or the mega launcher ability
The disadvantage of multi-hit moves over stronger single-hit ones of equal total power is that defenses are calculated against each individual hit. (50-X)+(50-X) < 100-X.
The top 3 are definitely in a higher tier than the others. But I think I'd flip the order. 5 extra base power and ignoring defense boosts I don't think is as useful as breaking Protect or Multi-strike. The flip side of always landing a crit though is that it can't get above 105 BP. Hyperspace Fury hits 150bp 1/16 strikes, while Tachyon Cutter is 150bp in 1/256 strikes, and 125bp in 15/128 strikes. Basically, a significant damage buff 1/8th of the time. Grass is a contender for worst offensive type in the game. Steel is only a hair better, while dark is actually a decent offensive type. I'd have to go: Hyperspace Fury, Tachyon Cutter, Flower Trick.
Respect the opinion and outlook! I would say Grass hits more common types super effectively but does have more switch ins. Dark is definitely best offensive type out of the 3.
Flower Trick is more consistent, and is one of the best Grass moves to throw out. Deals with set-up, bulky waters and grounds, and doesn't make contact. There are better Dark moves (knock off), and Steel isn't hitting much, so Flower Trick is superior. Keep in mind that in competitive play, Grass offense is valued because of the abundance of Water and Grounds, making it a viable type.
@@djdrizzy9139 Every type is offensively viable. And things will vary by format. I play national dex personally. I regularly see Tachyon cutter, semi-regularly see Hyperspace Fury, and I don't think I've seen Meowscarada in months. OU and VGC may be a very different story. I don't know much about these formats. But in national dex, Flower Trick is by far the rarest of the three. One quirk that just came to mind as to why I regularly see Hyperspace Fury instead of Knock Off on Hoopa is that in National Dex, Mega evolutions and Z-crystals are common, and cannot be knocked off. Knock off doesn't get the power boost here. Obviously, these items don't exist in other modern formats, so the main advantage of Hyperspace Fury over Knock Off is unique to the format. So, I'll grant your point in general, but throw that in as a conditional caveat. As far as consistency goes, Flower trick has a +5 base power floor at 105 vs the others at 100. I'll grant the advantage. But I don't think it comes anywhere near making up for how prevalent grass resists are. All 3 attacks are signature moves, so they can't be separated from their users. Meowscarada hits with the least power (even after the +5 BP) and is the fastest, but the least capable of taking a hit. When comparing the three moves, the ability to bypass defense boosts is offset by typing. The relevant moves I can see this helping with are Cosmic Power, Iron Defense. Cosmic Power users are psychic or fairy, which are weak to Hyperspace Fury and Tachyon cutter respectively. Most Iron Defense users resist , or even double resist grass, with the notable exception of Garganacle.
Why do I feel like that there are a ton of moves missing? Where are flamethrower, thunderbolt, icebeam, earhquake, psychic, wicked blow, rapid strike... ?
Those are 100% accurate. They can still miss due to accuracy/evasion stat changes or items like bright powder. The moves in this video will always hit regardless of those factors.

GD it's just like OHKO moves in any other RPG.

Same reason for Aura Sphere. Lucario was a boss in gen 4, but I think that's mainly because steel type was so broken in that Gen 😂
