Zack Dodson who played for Navojoa in Mexico said he regained his desire for the game in this very league, he eventually returned to Mexico and was key in Culiacan championship in 2020
This is interesting. I have wondered about baseball in Germany ever since I played in an over 40 amateur adult baseball league in Atlanta and we played an amateur team from Germany that was touring the U.S. As I recall, these guys were all in their late teens and were pretty decent ballplayers. Anyway, I always expected to hear more about baseball in Germany but really haven't until I saw this video.
Well, baseball professionalized a lot in germany over the last 1 1/2 decades. Great ballparks, great coaches and good young players. Sadly baseball is not growing in germany and they still haven't reached their goal to become the best team behind Italy and the Netherlands, but they finally managed to get some talent to the US, which is a great success I think. From that point Germany should have deserved the MLB game last year before the UK
@@RockBottom45 I've been in Germany since 93' near Nuremberg. Former Gi married a German, I'm originally from NJ. For American sports in my area, it's more basketball and football than baseball. My village started American Football in the Aufbauliga 3yrs ago. About 30 mins north from me is Brose Bamberg basketball. About a decade ago I took my oldest son to Frankfurt to see Frankfurt Galaxy against the Berling Thunders with 33,000 people on hand. It was pretty cool but no way will any American sport overtake fußball! No way!
There are actually 5 league levels. You got the 1.Bundesliga split into north and south, then the 2.Bundesliga split into 6 Regions. Below that you have three more levels of regional competition that are not directly governed by the german baseball federation but by state baseball federations. So you got: 1.Bundesliga (DBV) 2.Bundesliga (DBV) Verbandsliga (Regional Federation) Landesliga (Regional Federation) Bezirksliga (Regional Federation)
@@RockBottom45 you had 2 divisions in the 2.Bundesliga and 4 the in Regionalliga. They changed it to 6 divisions in the 2.Bundesliga to reduce travel cost a couple in 2017 or 18 i think. It has really watered down the level of play in the 2.BL and created larger gaps in levels of play
Regensburg is hosting the qualifier for the WBC again this year, in September. While still not as popular as American football, baseball is catching on in Germany and they have a lot of traveling fans who know how to have fun. I wouldn't be surprised to see them catch up with Holland and Italy in the coming years.
Thank you for this video! I had no idea, that we have a professional baseball Bundesliga here in Germany! All I knew for years and years was some regional softball... How can it be? I was born in Hamburg in the 80's, lived there until a decade ago and was *totaly unaware* that we have a pro team since the early 90's... Ice hockey, yes, but baseball? Baseball needs to be much more promoted in Germany! It's such a great game.
Awwww. Keplar was on my fantasy league team and on top of that my ancestry is traced back to pre ww1 Germany. If I'd have known this I wouldn't have traded him (for sentimental reasons). BTW, Germany has always been dominant in american sports throughout europe and baseball is no exception. They're slowly progressing over there but still a ways to go to compete with Honkbal hoofdeklasse and the IBL. The Netherlands are ridiculously good at baseball.
Hamburg Stealers is a badass name

I played there about a decade ago. I loved it in K-Town.

U guys heard about Cricket???
If at all it is a semi-pro league. Most of the players still work normal daytime jobs.

Great work, thanks for keeping up with your content! It's incredible and wonderful that the Tornadoes play at Roberto Clemente field!
Good for them. Who knows, maybe the Athletics can move to a scenic city in Bavaria.
I came here because our coach just told us we would be playing a team from this league in the spring. I'm interested to see how competitive they are
who did u play and how did it turn out?
@@spakkx it was supposed to be Regensburg but it got cancelled for some reason 🤷♂️
