Hey folks, please check out this re-potting and staging of my three specimens of one of my favorite "monstrose" cacti! Also, after that, please go ahead and check out this wonderful recent video about staging of cacti and other succulent plants ruclips.net/video/LeH8KofwFDs/видео.html from my friend Clyde Morris, on his awesome channel called Morris Park In the Ozarks ! Happy growing, cactus people!
WOW AWESOME repotting and Staging of your stunning Eulychina's Joe :-D they look so INCREDIBLE and creative in the beautiful Ceramic planter pot and wonderful rock staging, and so happy you love to use newspaper to handle your cacti too, its so much better than gloves, thats a really beautiful Ceramic pot that your very talented Wife has made, we LOVE the Eulychnia castanea varispiralis, its one on our wish list haha, and your three are absolutely gorgeous, thanks so much for sharing this amazing video with us Joe, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Bavaria for a wonderful upcoming weekend XXXX
Thank YOU, Lyn!! Super happy that you enjoyed the repotting and staging and also that you liked the end result and new arrangement! A big thank you from my wife, Monika, she says hi and is very pleased that you liked the ceramic pot - although she said that I definitely should have used a much nicer one from her collection for the video, haha! So there may be more planters of hers coming in future videos! I had to laugh so loud when I read your comment about using newspaper rather than gloves - I 150% agree, haha, nothing like a thick newspaper wrapping... or a shopping bag as I saw from the video that you and Hans posted a while back about handling columnar cacti!!! I only wish that it would be easier to send plants across, 'cause I could then send you one of these varispiralis over, as I know it is on your wish list, from an earlier comment you once made! Sending you and Hans lot's of cactus greetings for a relaxing rest of the weekend over to you both on the beautiful Emerald Isle! Plant Power and Happy Growing!!
@@cactusjoe Awwww thanks so much Joe :-D yes its a nightmare now with sending plants outside of Ireland and vice verse since Brexit, I even had seeds sent back to me that I posted off to a grower in Greece last year, the mail service sent it back to me and marked it as prohibited items, so crazy, and WOW we are so looking forward to seeing more of Monika's planters, sending you and Monika lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from Hans and me from across the windy Irish sea for a wonderful weekend XXXX
This is a terrific arrangement. The three Eulychnia planted together, rather than separately, really heightens their strange form and beauty. And compliments to your wife and her talents with pottery!
Hey, Justin! Thanks a lot for your awesome feedback and comments, really appreciated and so happy that you enjoyed the new arrangement of my three Eulychnia planted together! Also, will pass on the compliments to my wife, thanks so much, she will be delighted! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, best wishes, take care and happy growing of course my friend!
Amazing Cactus and amazing work too! The pot looks beautiful! And the video of Clyde is amazing too! And friendship is something amazing! 👏👏👏👍👍👍 Have a beautiful day! 🌞🌵🏜🥰

Hahaha, Anders, as I said in the video, that someone MAINLY repots in winter, but as an exception will also just do it in August, if needed, lol! Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you liked the new arrangement too! Enjoy the weekend!
Thanks a million for your lovely feedback, really appreciated! So happy that you liked the new arrangement and also a big thank you back from my wife! Fantastic also that you like the E. varispiralis, it is one of my favourite cacti! Enjoy your Sunday and happy growing of course! 👍👍😊🙏🙏🌵💚😎
Absolutely beautiful arrangement Joe. How unusual & fascinating are those incredible cactus shapes of the spectacular Eulychnia variants. Love your attention to detail when re-potting & showcasing your wonderful collection :)
Thank you so much, Joanna, for your wonderful feedback, so glad you enjoyed the video!! These spiralling Eulychnia are just amazing plants, which I can whole-heartedly recommend growing! Have a great day and happy growing of course! 🙏👍🙏😉🌵🌵🌺🌼🌸🌵💚😎☀️
Haha, thanks Ziggy, glad you liked them! And also the dolomitic limestone rock, haha, indeed all looking a bit surreal isnt't it? Thanks for watching and for your awesome comments as always my friend! Wishing you a relaxing Saturday evening and wonderful rest of the weekend! Happy growing!
@@cactusjoe I just bought 5 of those Ewoks 😁 Will be potting them up tomorrow. Pretty sure I went to the Dolomitic Alps in Italy when I was a kid. Hope you have a lovely Saturday too my friend 😊😊🌵🌵

Thank you Joe for the excellent repotting video! I love the Spiralis cacti you have. I think the first time I saw one was when you covered the big cacti and succulent show earlier this year. I also love the planter your wife made! I'm into ceramic planters but all of mine were bought. Even as big as the planter, I didn't think you had enough room. You sure made them all look nice and happy together. Excellent staging! Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. I hope you have a super rest of today and an awesome weekend from your friend in Georgia, USA!
Thank you, Jeff! Brilliant to read all your fantastic feedback and comments, so happy that you enjoyed the repotting and also liked the new arrangement and the pot! I will be sure to let my wife know, she will be very happy about your compliments, thank you! Yep, you are spot on, two of these variospiralis cacti are indeed from the plant sale earlier in the year! And, haha, I was also not really that sure myself whether they would all fit into the planter at the end...., but I suppose a classic case of having to simply try, to find out, lol! And I guess the video may not have ever made it into "production" if I would not have been able to fit them in, haha! Thanks again for watching and for your awesome feedback and support, my friend, sending you very best cactus greetings from Bavaria, Germany to Georgia, USA!
Thanks Kim! Very happy that you are finding the new arrangement looking much better than the plants did in their own pots before! Thanks for watching and commenting, and hope you are having a wonderful weekend! Take care and happy growing!
Awesome repotting, Joe. They all look fantastic in their new home. Arranged perfectly I think 😊 That’s such an awesome looking cactus, too. Not the easiest plant to find for sale here, or the cheapest haha. Thank you for sharing with us my friend. Have a wonderful day and weekend from Edith and myself and happy growing as always 👍🏻🌵☀️🏜🌺🌼
Thank you, Daz, brilliant to read your awesome feedback and super to see that you like the repotted three Eulychnia! They are indeed awesome cacti and can occasionally even be found being offered on eBay, or at cactus nurseries, and still at reasonable prices when small. That's where I got the skinny tall one a few years back. I got the other two of mine at one of the local plant sales earlier in the year. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend! Best wishes for an awesome weekend to you and Edith, and happy growing of course as always!
I love your wife's pot, she is very good! With the rock in amongst the cacti is awesome, I was afraid it might be too big, but it was perfect. And I always love the odd looking cacti, they are always my favorites. Great job!!!
Thank you so much, Jena! I have passed on your wonderful compliments to my wife and she was very happy and says hi! Also I'm very happy that you liked the new arrangement with my varispiralis cacti, thanks so much for watching and for your awesome feedback! Have a wonderful weekend ahead!
Hello Joe! At first I didn't think you would be able to fit everything in the beautiful bowl that your wife made for you. I should have known better...with all of your experience, you know what you are doing! I am a fan of your latest creation. Hope you and your wife have a wonderful weekend!!
Hello Cheryl! Always a real pleasure to hear from you! And I am really happy that you liked this latest creation and the new arrangement of my three weird & wonderful cacti! Regarding the space, haha, I did have to hold my breath myself a bit too, as I was really not sure at all whether everything would fit into the planter I had chosen, haha! But once you start, there is no way back untill you are done and you just have to try things out to realise the vision you have at the start! So it was a fair amount of wiggling and tweaking of the rock, substrate and plants, but all is well that ends well, as the saying goes lol! Thank you, I will pass your regards on to my wife also - and wishing you too a fantastic weekend! Enjoy your collection of plants and happy growing of course!
Thanks so much, Gary! Super that you like the repotted and staged arrangement! Many thanks for watching and commenting, really appreciated! Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead and happy growing of course!
Wow, amazing combination of cacti and ceramic vessel, Joe! You give us inspiration to go beyond the trivial way of cultivaltion. From now on I will pay more attention to ceramic vessels and start imagining my plants re-potted in a beautiful arrangement. Congratulations !!
Thanks a million, Gilberto, really am humbled by your wonderful feedback and comments! I am really happy that you liked the combination, the staging and the new arrangement! Also, very happy to hear that you found the video inspiring, my friend - truly no better feedback to receive as a video creator and cactus grower, haha! I am a big fan of just trying out and experimenting with staging of different materials, plants, etc! Best of luck with your own experiments, I am sure you will be succesful! Very best wishes and have a great rest of the weekend! Happy growing!
Hey, that was in my opinion a great idea to arrange these specimens in such a quite "natural" way 👍🏻 And the cacti theirselves are really beautiful too. We now get some cacti weather again, finally an alternation to the rainy weather of the past weeks 😅 I have heard that there were some quite heavy thunderstorms in southern Germany, hope you didn't get hit by them. I also have some news regarding the destroyed greenhouse in my local botanical garden (there was an article on the front page of my local newspaper today about this topic): They are now in the process of digging out all the plants and putting them in separate pots/trays for overwintering (they luckily still have an intact overwintering house!). The new-build-greenhouse is planned for next Spring, hopefully they manage too built that until next Summer so that the plants can be put back in next year. By the way, Ulrich Haage is planning to visit them soon to give some advisory! See you soon again and have a great, sunny weekend! :)
Hi Jacob! Thank you so much, fantastic to read that you liked the replanting and staging of these three cacti! Luckily, where I live, we were spared from the worst of the storms and flooding last night, but only a few kilometres away pretty much all road underpasses, tunnels and house basements unfortunately were left under water... it has been a pretty close call for us! Excellent to hear that your local Botanical Garden in Kassel is finding a way forward to get all the plants into safe locations before the winter comes! And having Ulrich Haage come over to advise will certainly be of help too, given all the tremendous experience he brings with cacti and other succulent plants! Yep, temperatures are rapidly climbing again now, and indeed a full week of 33-35 C daytime temps coming! I hope my cacti do not get too confused with all these extreme changes going on all the time, haha! Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead, herzliche Kakteengrüße nach Kassel!
Brilliant, many thanks for your lovely feedback Cecilia, I have passed it on to my wife Monika and she says thanks and sends best regards! Hope you are having a wonderful week! 🙏🙏👍🙌😊🌵🌵🌼🌺🌸💚😎☀️
Brilliant and thank you! So happy that you liked the staging and also these special cacti! Many thanks for watching and commenting! Hope you are having an awesome weekend, best wishes and take care!
I just recently started collecting cacti and euphorbia, I am loving the art of staging them , so I was very happy to find your channel and this video. I love how you go into details about the plants, their care and care tips . I hope you have a awesome weekend as well 💚 Please tell your wife that I absolutely loved the pot she made for the video 💕
Hello Heather! Thank you so much, brilliant that you like the new arrangement and Monika's planter too! I will pass on your compliments, she will be very happy to hear that too! The wooly cactus you are refering to is an Oreocereus trollii (the co-called Old Man of the Andes Cactus), among my all-time favourite cacti. I have a little group of these columnar cacti from the genus Oreocereus growing together in another planter...they feature in my recent video tour of my cactus & succulent plant collection (I think it was in video 2), in case you would like to see a bit more of them. Thank you once again for watching and for your awesome feedback, and wishing you a wonderful Sunday! And happy growing of course!
Great video Love the combination of pot, plants and rock. Interesting to see your potting process. Your potting mix looks mostly mineral material. As a novice cacti grower this video was informative Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks, Ted, very happy that you liked the video and that you also found it informative! Also, super that you liked the combination of pot, plants and rock, thanks so much for that awesome feedback, appreciated! Yes indeed my potting mix is almost entirely mineral. If you are interested, I have the "recipe" of my mix shown in my recent video about the cactus mini-landscape raised bed that I built in my greenhouse. Thanks again for watching and commenting and wishing you a very nice and relaxing rest of the weekend! And happy growing of course!!
Thank you so much, Javi! I'm super happy that you are finding the new arrangement looking awesome, much appreciated! Thanks for watching and commenting and wishing you a wonderful weekend, take care and happy growing!
Thanks so much, Marlene, super that you really like the staging, much appreciated! Thanks for watching and for your wonderful feedback! Enjoy your weekend!!
Thank you so much, Cienciay! I was super happy to read your wonderful feedback and also a big thank you from my wife, she was very pleased about your remarks! Really fantastic that you liked the video, thanks for watching and commenting! Sending you very best cactus greetings from Germany to Spain! Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
That looks excellent and a definite improvement over the three individual pots. It also looks a lot nicer than if you had chosen to plant the three in a direct line. I like the base you set the pot on too. A lot of times I 'll look around my collection to see if I've made the right choices in planting and also find ways to use new pots or stones. Sometimes it just has to dawn on you! Now you probably have room for another pot! The only thing that would make it "cooler" is to add some really nice identification labels.
Thanks, Terry, very nice to read that you are seeing an improvement in the new arrangement and staging! Indeed, the name labels should definitely still be improved, haha! I must confess, those are the type of jobs I keep for the long winter months, when there is less "action" going on in the greenhouse and plant collection. Thanks for watching and commenting, as always much appreciated!
The repotting and staging looks very natural. In my climate, I would be too afraid of root rot infecting one plant, then spreading to the others. But I don’t have a greenhouse to protect my plants while summering them outdoors. The white rock has a pleasing shape and texture, but a darker color might contrast better and spice up the group. Just a thought. You could always spray paint it, should you or your artist wife agree. Enjoy your new creation! 😺✌️
Thank you, glad you find the new arrangment looking very natural! Yes I agree, it is a little bit of a risk, whether because of root rot or also pests potentially spreading when one has several plants potted together, especially when plants are more exposed to cooler, wetter weather outside. Having grown my plants for many, many years outside too, I do realise how lucky I am now growing inside a greenhouse! I like your idea of playing with a stronger contrast, i.e. a darker rock - I might actually try a few other, darker rocks from my collection, in the place of the current light-coloured dolomitic limestone, to test that! Thanks once again for your awesome feedback and comments, love them, and indeed I will enjoy the new creation, haha! Enjoy your weekend and happy growing!
Many thanks, Robyn, really happy that you liked the new, staged arrangement of these three cacti! Many thanks for watching and for your feedback, really appreciated! Enjoy the weekend ahead, happy growing!
in case nobody has noticed, excluding the cristata on the left, these are two different spiralis forms. the one in the middle has the more rare spiral form, while the one on the right doesn't have the curly twist, but has the "disc"-form where it looks like several pieces are towered upon eachother. all 3 are beauties. - edit, it actually looks like that only 1 or 2 of the 4 are disc-shaped while the others look curly. weird :D and amazing nice plant
Indeed, you are completely correct, these so-called 'varispiralis' cultivars and forms of Eulychnia castanea can come in all kinds of shapes, sizes and variations, from truly spiralled to stacked discs, both thin stems or broad stacks, monstrose combinations and also crested forms! They are truly weird and wonderful but definitely so worth growing! Thanks a lot for watching and commenting and hope you have an awesome weekend ahead! Happy growing!!
Great job, Joe. Your bride should be proud of her work as well. After all of this is finished, do those roots all grow together and form a big mass? Can they be separated after say a year or 2? Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Bill, as always very happy that you enjoyed the video! And your awesome feedback is also as always hugely appreciated! Thank you, will pass on your compliments to my wife, she will be very happy to hear that too! The roots will indeed start growing across the entire planter and will likely criss-cross each others' paths. But that is not really a problem, as I would be taking the plants out for re-potting, say in 2 or 3 years and would be carefully separting them from each other. That is then easiest done in the dormancy period when most of the roots are inactive anyway and can be "pruned" back quite easily! In nature, a lot of cacti would be growing in smaller groups too, where their roots would be interwining, so not a real problem. Many thanks for watching and sending you lot's of cactus greetings for an awesome weekend!

Hi there! So happy that you enjoyed the video and liked the pot, the rock and the overall display, thank you! Yeah , I am a big fan of weird and monstrose cacti and succulent forms too, haha! In case you have not seen it yet, I have a dedicated video and playlist on my channel that is all about these type of plants! Regarding your question, which is a really good and important one, I usually place the newly potted /transplanted plants into a relatively shady spot, definitely out of full sun or sun and I wait with watering for at least one week to 10 days, depending on how warm the weather is. It is important that the roots properly heal off and form callus to avoid root rot! Thanks for watching and for your question and comments, take care and happy growing!
Hello Giuseppe, wonderful to receive your feedback, thank you so much, very happy that you liked the repotting in this video! Yes indeed, I use an almost completely mineral substrate for all my cacti. Only about 10-15% organic component, being a sandy soil. I have had good experiences with this for many years now in my climate. Thanks for watching and commenting, and have a wonderful weekend ahead, lot's of cactus greetings to Italy! 👍🙌☺️🙏🌵🪴🌵🌸🌼🌺💚😎☀️🙋♂️
Well, that's a great question, Ida, thanks for asking - and that is actually great feedback as I realise that I never filmed or included a 360 degree view in the video! I will include that in future videos. For this one, perhaps I will include the pot with a view from all sides in a future greenhouse update video! Hope you are enjoying your Wednesday and the rest of the week, take care, best wishes and happy growing of course!

It looks very nice, your wife did a very good job with the pot
Brilliant, many thanks for your lovely feedback Cecilia, I have passed it on to my wife Monika and she says thanks and sends best regards! Hope you are having a wonderful week! 🙏🙏👍🙌😊🌵🌵🌼🌺🌸💚😎☀️

I just recently started collecting cacti and euphorbia, I am loving the art of staging them , so I was very happy to find your channel and this video. I love how you go into details about the plants, their care and care tips .
I hope you have a awesome weekend as well 💚
Please tell your wife that I absolutely loved the pot she made for the video 💕

You're welcome 😊
Happy Growing 🌵
O wow, that looks fantastic. Love your wife’s planter too ❤ What is the woolly cacti the right of the screen? Those spiral cacti are awesome 👍👍
Great video
Love the combination of pot, plants and rock.
Interesting to see your potting process.
Your potting mix looks mostly mineral material.
As a novice cacti grower this video was informative
Thanks for sharing.
Looks awesome Joe!
Thank you so much, Javi! I'm super happy that you are finding the new arrangement looking awesome, much appreciated! Thanks for watching and commenting and wishing you a wonderful weekend, take care and happy growing!
Thanks joe good staging I love it❤
Thanks so much, Marlene, super that you really like the staging, much appreciated! Thanks for watching and for your wonderful feedback! Enjoy your weekend!!
Congratulations! A very nice video, as usual. You have an incredible collection and yor wife is an artist. Greetings from Spain.
Lovely🌵💚
Thank you so much, very happy that you liked it! Ein schönes Wochenende und herzliche Kakteengrüße in den schönen Norden Deutschlands! 🌵💚
Looks really good🌵🌵
Many thanks, Robyn, really happy that you liked the new, staged arrangement of these three cacti!

Beautiful composition! 💥💥💥💚Are they fast or slow growing plants?🌵
Thank you so much and super that you found the new composition attractive! Many thanks for watching and for your wonderful feedback! Hope you are having an awesome weekend!
I love the monstrose. The pot is special. The mineral rock is cool. Display looks good.
When do you water after transplant?
Thank you, Mr. Joe
Weeks?
Thanks for watching and for your question and comments, take care and happy growing!
hello from Italy! Fantastic repot! i see you dont' use earth compot ? just lappillo, pomice ecc??
Hello Giuseppe, wonderful to receive your feedback, thank you so much, very happy that you liked the repotting in this video! Yes indeed, I use an almost completely mineral substrate for all my cacti. Only about 10-15% organic component, being a sandy soil. I have had good experiences with this for many years now in my climate. Thanks for watching and commenting, and have a wonderful weekend ahead, lot's of cactus greetings to Italy! 👍🙌☺️🙏🌵🪴🌵🌸🌼🌺💚😎☀️🙋♂️
What does it look like from the backside 😊
Well, that's a great question, Ida, thanks for asking - and that is actually great feedback as I realise that I never filmed or included a 360 degree view in the video! I will include that in future videos. For this one, perhaps I will include the pot with a view from all sides in a future greenhouse update video! Hope you are enjoying your Wednesday and the rest of the week, take care, best wishes and happy growing of course!
