  • The BYD Seal has been getting alot of positive press lately, but it's been focused largely on the ballisticly-fast Performance AWD model. However, thorough testing of both models have revealed that it's not the Performance AWD model that's worth keeping your eye on - rather, you're better off saving twenty grand and getting the Seal Premium RWD.

    Aiman, whats your take on this nor M3?

    •  26 дней назад +3

      I think the Seal will attract more buyers than the M3. The quality is better and the more conventional interior is more convenient for most potential buyers.

    • @ashraffendy2010
      @ashraffendy2010 26 дней назад

      Agreed on the quality interior, the pricing as well. I'm interested in Seal Performance. It's sublime when I test drive it before. The only dilemma I had is, software support for M3 is better. That's my only reason for still not shooting the bullet 😅

    Nice car and great value for money. Similar price here in Australia. One slight concern is that the ground clearance seems a little low. Not sure if it's a an issue in the real world and it might not be any better on the Tesla Model 3.

  • @fazz27

    Thanks Aiman for the review, which as always is excellent. Found that the segment on the charging realities most useful. Is it ok to charge everyday because it is an LFP battery tech? How different is this to others?

    • @MalaysianMotoring
      @MalaysianMotoring  27 дней назад +6

      LFP batteries are not as energy dense as NMC or LI batteries, but they remain stable for longer. They also don't suffer from the same thermal runaway in event of an undesirable incident.
      BYD themselves recommend charging the car to 100% as much as possible, and DC charging at least once a month (if we're not wrong).

    $10k AUD more here in Australia for the AWD Performance. 160kw/215hp more is worth the $10k which is really nothing for this kind of performance. And two whole seconds faster to 100kmh/62mph than the RWD Premium, which is significant even being 200kgs-300kgs heavier. You’ll be looking at a good $15k more for a Tesla with similar performance. And double the overall cost for an ICE car that can keep up. If I had to buy again, would do it again. Drove a Premium and just didn’t have the kick, which was a deal-breaker. But to each their own!

    • @PsychedMedia
      @PsychedMedia 27 дней назад

      Unfortunately the annual road tax for the Performance variant here in Malaysia would be a deal breaker for those considering the Performance over the Premium variant. Its almost triple the rate of the Premium.

    • @MalaysianMotoring
      @MalaysianMotoring  27 дней назад +2

      Performance isn't everything. Australians have a weird obsession with straight-line speed despite overzealous policing and strict speed limits so there isn't really a point. Range and day-to-day usability are far more important factors to consider.
      For context, Aiman was an editor at an Australian motoring publication for 4 years.

  • @CharlesLeoYNWA

    As usual, quite a detailed review and it seems this car offer good value for an EV. Quite impressed with the charging curve which is a practical feature. The only missing part is the ADAS system. Was looking forward to some opinions on the ADAS system. It seems that the BYD ADAS is still not up to a level where drivers feel confident or like to use the system. Wonder if this car has any improvement in the ADAS or BYD has made improvement on the software.

    • @MalaysianMotoring
      @MalaysianMotoring  28 дней назад +1

      We covered that in our Performance review.
      The ADAS system on the Seal is very reliable, though it likes to hug the left side of the lane a bit too much. This happens alot with cars or systems calibrated for LHD markets. But Aiman doesn't like to use lane-centering unless it's bumper-to-bumper traffic so it didn't seem cumbersome. Otherwise the ADAS system was engaged on all motorway journeys, and proved to be a very solid drive assistant.
