Absolutely agree with you. And the announcers messed THAT up too! It wasn't Ngoni who caught the stick, it was the OTHER kid who was trying to hand it off to him. That kid didn't drop the stick, he placed it right into Ngoni's hand! Ngoni seemed to have "hard hands" and lost it, then the kid caught it falling out of the air, and put it back! Ngoni just made sure not to cross the line! Amazing!
as an Aussie I envy your big college meets and depth of performances. With only 23 million spread over just as big an area we'll never see it like that over here. I just can't believe that you can pass a baton backwards and forwards like that at over 20mph lol. Great quality race
No it is not. I am a geneticist, worked in the field most of my career. Please do your research before commenting as your statement merely perpetuates ignorance. Human velocity is bio-mechanical, mental, and strength based. If you apply work, talent, self-belief, and critical coaching support, you will wind up with a champion. If you add idiotic excuses for why you lose, that you're genetically less prepared, you will wind up with a spectator on RUclips.
@thewebinator "aren't third and second technically the same as they both have to receive and hand off the baton, and have to deal with the lanes?" Pretty much, yes. It's technically possible that #3--if he's absolutely next to the lane line--runs a few inches less, but that's all. The one who runs the longest with the baton is the leadoff (assuming the pass is made toward the end of the zone); the person who has it the least is the anchor. Sometimes I've put the slowest of the four on anchor!
@dls2779 Look at the video again, paying close attention to Makusha's position relative to Texas in lane 8. At the instant Florida State fumbled the baton, Makusha was a meter behind Texas's second leg. By the time he recovered the baton and got going again, he was only 3 meters behind the Texas runner, not eleven meters.
What you call annoying is actually good commentating. Truth is, she is simpy amazing. Those who talk it out, do not last or are not called for the big games.
I can imagine myself at one of my track meets and me messing up in a relay and then my mom going "OH!!!!!!!!!!! WE TALK! ABOUT! BATON PASSING!" like the lady did xD
By the way, his name is Brandon Byram, and he is awesome. He was even wise enough to take some time off from track, get his plan together, train/live overseas (Sweden?), and is now running even faster than before. He has Twitter & FB pages. To me, white sprinters like Brandon and Christophe Lemaître are young men who don't let you folks with racist perspectives get them down. They go out there and run fast because they know they're just as capable as the "black people" you all cite.
@1488slav Of course it's legitimate. It was at the NCAA Championships, which always has a first-rate timing crew, including pressure sensitive starting blocks. Most national teams can't match the passing of the top college teams.
@dls2779 This year's FSU team is a great team and certainly they're capable of running sub-38, but they weren't going to do it with those passes. When TCU set the record, they stretched the zone to the breaking point, meaning that they were on the edge of being out the zone on all three passes. FSU's passing was much too conservative to break the record in this race. The fact that they could fumble with the baton for so long and still be in the zone tells you how conservative the first pass was.
@dls2779 You don't know what you're talking about. In 2008, Thompson ran 10.00 at the Texas Relays, 9.93 at SEC's and 9.97 at regionals. After that he also ran a couple of sub-10's in Europe before he arrived in Beijing. And I don't know why you're bringing up Charles Clark. This is 2011, not 2009. There's a thread about the NCAA 4x100 on Track & Field News message board (Current Events, page 4). Go post your theory there and watch how folks react to it. Be prepared to get your feelings hurt.
She has been hired, and she has worked for years. This means she is popular with the folk or else she would have been gone a long time ago. If she did not do her job well on TV, she would not be there. I am sure she is smiling all the way to the bank. For everyone that does not like her, there are enough that do. Let's hope that you are good at what you do! What about those folk with whom you work that do not like you, rightly or wrongly? Carol's bosses see her as the best!!
@dls2779 Dix has proven his greatness and in retrospect, Holliday was only better than him indoors at 60 meters. I don't know about you, but I had no idea that he was ready to run 9.93 in the 2007 100 final. By the way, if you want to see what type of passing it takes to break the record, check out the first exchange between Walter Davis and Robert Parham in the 2002 NCAA 4x100 relay. Every member of that team was 10.3 or slower but they still managed to run 38.32.
@dls2779 The difference between 9.89 and 10.1 is not 10 meters, it's more like 2 to 2.5 meters. When LSU had Trindon Holliday (10.0) and Richard Thompson (9.89), they ran 38.42 on that same track. That's likely the kind of time Florida State would have run without that hiccup. Forget this 37.xx nonsense.
@1488slav It's legit....i mean it's all about handoffs really. All your legs being a full speed when they get the baton...also the conditions could've had alot to do with the time as well!
The commentators here are all regulars, and she is the only one who raises her voice consistently and at and during other venues. She has no TV or radio voice. We all know why she is included in track TV though.
What the hell does color have to do with anything? I'm white and the fastest person at my high school and also a county champ as a freshmen. It doesn't mean anything...
that kid was FLYING. as a former world-class sprinter myself, i love to see those young caucasian guys breaking those stupid ass stereotypes. for those who subscribe to the "physique difference" hogwash... go to hell. respect to this kid. i'm gonna go google him now!
@dls2779 With all due respect, if you really think Florida State lost 0.8 seconds on that exchange, you're delusional. 0.8 seconds is almost 10 meters and Makusha didn't lose that much ground. At the most, they lost 0.2 seconds on that exchange, about the same amount that LSU's women lost on their bad exchange.
@1488slav It most definitely is legit! I mean its all about handoffs in the 4x1! If both people giving and receiving the baton are at full speed the time will be alot faster! Also conditions factor in as well! The meet was in New York, so you never know! Along with that, that time would have gotten third in the olympics that year! Crazy huh?
What does her getting paid have to do with people liking or disliking her? She will always have that job because she is female and a minority. Its called job parity, like it or not. Businesses have to in good faith try to fill positions with ample number of minorities and women. They have to meet certain EOE standards. I know because I used to be a recruiter with a major corporation. Getting rid of her would be more difficult than pulling a live lion's teeth. Dude, she is adequate at best.
bolt ran a 9.5 n this guy ran a 9.8 how the hell is he in the category or sentence as bolt .. they better stop hyping up these college runnin makin thm thinkin thy faster thn wat thy are.
Brandon byram ... was a talented sprinter ....hard for a white sprinter in the states to go pro........why ....predisposed ideas relating to who should or shouldn’t be fast .......still one of the reasons the ncaa is not ideal for European sprinters ...
I know you see that most here argue in my favor in that she is unpleasant to listen to hearing speak. Yes, she is a former great athlete. Yes, she probably is knowledgeable about track and field. But look at all the responses on how poor she is as a commentator. Your view is in the minority my friend.
Icecoldhard only people that go to track meets are people who used to run track or the runner’s families. i dont blame them. its not the most entertaining of sports
It’s more talked about internationally. I remember one day I was listening to bbc radio after the world championships of athletics and they talked about it twice after the event that day. They had athlete interview recorded. They also talked about the medal winners, place the national team got and surprises. 4x400 relay was always exciting to me. Also the fashion with those shades. But yeah true in the U.S most ppl that go are family, fans of track and maybe a few other supporters of that school.
"Your view is in the minority my friend." Is she working? Who do you think put her out front? If her boss and those that matter think she is the best, scrap your opinion! You cannot fire her! Obviously, my views are in line with how her boss feels about her. It is always a racist who is the loudest!!
The white guy as the last leg for FSU gives me hope.
Vxczxxcvxcccf
4:24 "THIS IS AMAZING!"
How do you mess up a exchange and still win?! Damn that 4x1 team is fast
"I was almost out of the zone, and he put it back... GOD IS GREAT" LOL that was so cute
“FSU has come back”.... they were never behind
That anchor leg for florida state is my hero
Absolutely agree with you. And the announcers messed THAT up too! It wasn't Ngoni who caught the stick, it was the OTHER kid who was trying to hand it off to him. Great quality race
greatest baton save ever!!!!
No it is not. I am a geneticist, worked in the field most of my career. Please do your research before commenting as your statement merely perpetuates ignorance.

You should have seen Christophe Lemaitre during the 4x100 at the 2011 WCA for track and field. When he was up, he flew ahead of everyone.
WAS THAT A WHITE ANCHOR?!?!?
ye
Brandon Byram is dumb fast...great story too!
Bad exchange but great finish great anchor.
Speed won bad exchange
@dls2779 Look at the video again, paying close attention to Makusha's position relative to Texas in lane 8. At the instant Florida State fumbled the baton, Makusha was a meter behind Texas's second leg. By the time he recovered the baton and got going again, he was only 3 meters behind the Texas runner, not eleven meters.
What's amazing is how Florida State won despite such a horrible first exchange.
Crazy how the guy that won the 100m is the sprint coach at UC Davis now
I love florida state its my first choice for a college ♥
looking at the zone? He was turned backwards when he got it.
best part of the video 4:25 " THIS IS AMAZING" lmao
You and her boss can listen to her broadcast. The rest of us will turn on the closed captioning while she speaks.
0:53 lane eight..
dude had so much forward acceleration it looked like he was gonna face plant damn son thats how you start off the blocks
That guy in orange is so short and really quick
THIS IS AMAZING!!!!?!?!?!?1?1?!?
love how the announcers don't mention florida's DNF at all until the very end. and didn't mention texas a&m's pursuit of the team title at all.
Third leg for Florida state rolled out!!!!!!
11.3 but I haven't ran it sense 8th grade. I'm more of a hurdler, broke all the records for them. :)
By the way, his name is Brandon Byram, and he is awesome. Had UF not had those two major mishaps (Demps 100m fail & 4x100 fail) they would have easily won the meet...
Better luck next season.. Go Gators!
4:53 she says the "S" in Illinois...yea

so that notorious voice comes from this woman
@dls2779 You don't know what you're talking about. In 2008, Thompson ran 10.00 at the Texas Relays, 9.93 at SEC's and 9.97 at regionals. @1488slav It's legit....i mean it's all about handoffs really. All your legs being a full speed when they get the baton...also the conditions could've had alot to do with the time as well!
4:25 OMG I laughed so hard

@dls2779 Smashed the record? Are you serious? There's no way Florida State lost 0.8 seconds on that first exchange.
@dls2779 and they lose byram and clarke...
this is amaaaaa(crack)zingg
@187beastmode4 I know!! Who keeps letting her be a commentator is my question!!! LOL!!
lol is mostly due to genetics so black people are generally fast. But this kid is good runner he worked hard in this relay :)
someone get carol lewis off of television
skip to 2:56
that looked out of the zone to me...wouldve ran a 38.0 if they got it right..
MAAAAKKKUUUUUSSHHHHAAAAA

@dls2779 It's obvious that my comment went completely over your head. Or else you didn't even bother to read what I posted.

They show the power of what we can achieve when stupidity is ignored.
0:08 - gang bang

You have the sorriest comebacks hahah. You must be like 10.
no!- a white guy was anchor and part of the winning team. No biggie!
Whats racist in saying she has an annoying voice? Just listen, she has an annoying voice.
Carol is professional; that is why she has the job. You all are sitting around typing on RUclips.
Carol is the worst commentator
haha it's illinoi(silent s) not illinoise
bolt ran a 9.5 n this guy ran a 9.8 how the hell is he in the category or sentence as bolt .. they better stop hyping up these college runnin makin thm thinkin thy faster thn wat thy are.
Not that easy.
ya some1 stop letting woman commentate on this stuff plzzz
Brandon byram ... was a talented sprinter ....hard for a white sprinter in the states to go pro........why ....predisposed ideas relating to who should or shouldn’t be fast .......still one of the reasons the ncaa is not ideal for European sprinters ...
haha
WOO WHITE GUY!!
They got held off by a white guy :O
Oh shit its that female announcer again.
Thank god shes not commentating anymore shes the worst and thinks she knows her stuff when she doesnt
White guy :)
I know you see that most here argue in my favor in that she is unpleasant to listen to hearing speak. Yes, she is a former great athlete. Yes, she probably is knowledgeable about track and field. Does that stop her paychecks? How stupid!!
Empty stands for NCAA Finals. Pathetic.

Carol Lewis needs to be replaced. Her voice is just so annoying plus she butchers every freaking name.
Exactly she gets people's names splits wrong and think she knows what she's talking about when she doesn't.
