1:03 jetpacks engage... 1:05 almost runs past camera 1:08 initiate cruise control.. 1:20 power down ... 1:25 systems cool off.. What a great demonstration of upright sprinting and body control
think about this, he ran the first 100 in 9.88 and the 2nd 100 in 9.54. That is insane, I wish there were more straight 200 races. I think Noah Lyles or Michael Norman could eventually do something like this.
Atlanta City Games has 150m straight. Noah set 3rd all time last year and running again tomorrow. Insane that this performance is 2nd all time for a 150m.
Hihi Weee,Bro blake has a much faster 200m PB and blake 9.69s was into a slight headwind and tyson gay 9.69 was with +2.0M/S max wind,so it aint even close blake faster
I'm guessing it's because the straight line 200m isn't an "official" event, in the sense you can't host this event in stadiums (hence no Olympics, no World Championships, etc.). A straight track of 200m is pretty cumbersome. :)
In a article when tysons personal trainer i think, said he runs too fast for his body i can see what he said him slightly bobbing and swaying is from the power
Alpha Omega Although Tyson Gay holds the record for the fastest curve at 9.99 which is actually insane. His 200m with a bent wouldn't be too much different from this one.
@WARRIOR FIGHTER PAHLAWAN are u really that stupid?! He even admited that Bolt is the better sprinter. But at that paticular race gay was faster the first 150 meters.
I've always Liked Tysons Gay , he has always been very respectful and humble considering his amazing career. As a massive Bolt fan I generally can't get into races when Bolt is not competing. ...but Gay is the exception. 👍👍
Isn't running in a straight line easier than running a curve? From the way I understand it, you have to use more energy on a curve because you constantly accelerate yourself towards the center of the bend.
The Deaner not entirely sure but I would imagine harder to gage pacing/tactics which could effect times. Also as Tyson said 200m looks like a very very long way when running in a straight line, that must of have some psychological impact.
Usain had a +1.0 wind and got 14.35 in the 150m Tyson had a -0.4headwind. So give Tyson Gay that same wind Usain had and that = breaking the 150m record.
well they mean for the 200 straight, with the curve, its always different, they usually count it separately, like how the theres an indoor 200m and outdoor 200m because most indoor tracks are 200m
People are making comparisons between a 19.19 ran in august(late season) and a 19.41 on a straight ran in May. Both races couldn't have the same conditions and Tyson has been running 400s so far. Well see what happens when Tyson and Usain meet it will be good if they are both healthy.
@GCSteelFixing Tyson is extremely fit. What you saw was lactic acid build-up that ususally climaxes around 300m or so. That's why sprinters have a love/hate relationship with the longer sprints. Now, he needs to get in some speed work, so his next 3 races or so should be 100m.
@phastman1994 Yeah, Bolt ran 14.35 which is slightly faster than Gay's SPLIT time. Anyway we are talking about a 50m longer race here, that makes difference.
@smash37 ye it is. This is a straight 200m, its like running indoor or outdoor its different WR... same when u run a straight 200 and a standard one with a curve (stadium races).
The Street City event organisers should try their best to attract Blake/Bolt/Powell next year, especially with races being so close to the crowd. They've already attracted Bolt, Gay and Spearmon so I see no reason why not. Imagine standing at 50m when Asafa storms to a 9.8x... now that's priviledge.
@WARRIOR FIGHTER PAHLAWAN I think he could have done sub 19 on even a round Olympic track in perfect conditions and with a more even race split tbh. I bet a straight 200m run when he was fully fit (he was only 1 month post-surgery in the Manchester 150m race) on a warm, crisp day would be something as mindblowing as his 9.58 time was. Maybe 18.8 or something ludicrous like that.
Tyson gay is incredibly fast over 100-150 mtrs. His style of running, technique and speed is the exact replica to his Idol Mo Greene, who in my opinion is the Perfect Sprinter of all all time and my Favourite Sprinter too. The only advantage Bolt has over him is his HUGE GIGANTIC STRIDE LENGHT that covers more ground than all othr athletes and tyson will one day crack it.
@musik102 wrong, the muscle that you use are slightly different when running the curve. therefore when you run it straight you get far more muscle fatigue
Well don't forget, Usain Bolt, putting it bluntly, is a freak of nature. At 6'5, his legs are still able to move as fast as someone around 5'10 or 5'11. Anyone else would and should be tired out after running a time like this. I mean 19.41 is VERY fast. With the exception of Michael Johnson and Usain Bolt, nobody has ever run 200m that fast.
@Stahlgrau330Ci True, but Gay wasn't pacing himself here, he even said before the race that at the same time as he's going for Smith's straight 200m WR, he also wanted to run a faster 150m split than Bolt's 14.35. Not that Gay's 14.41s 150m split is any less impressive though, considering the slight headwind.
....There.. you heard it, right at the end of the video's commentary by the presenter, 4 {FOUR} HUNDRETHS SLOWER THAN USAIN BOLT'S TIME AT 150M.... and as we all know, all he had to do over the last 100m {70m} was utilise the flying momentum from the first 100m and maintain FORM to finish which he did quite admirably.... watching Bolt's 150m at the same track, you'll see Usain glided nay floated over the course after 80m of work.... USAIN BOLT still RULES the short sprints....!!!
@MrWest1600 IMO a strait 200m is harder but at the same time faster, the sling shot effect is a benefit for a curved 200m but at the same time you're not running a curve against gravity for the entire first 100m when it's on a strait. Gay even said himself that the time should be faster than a normal 200m. Agree?
@MadSkeelz16 Thank you!!! I thought I was one of the only ones who believed that. Yes bolt's height is somewhat of an advangtage. But it's a disadvantage at the most important part of the race. The START. Most tall sprinters have horrible starts. What sets bolt apart is his stride length AND his insane turnover rate. He has the turnover rate of a sprinter that is 5'10. That's why he is able to run such fast times. If gay were 6'5 he probably wouldn't run sub 9.9. or even sub 10.
first 100m was 9.88, and he came through in 19.42 in the video. that means his second 100m was 9.54. and if he came through in 19.41, then the second 100m was 9.53. that's unreal, if only he would run that time in a legit 100m against usain bolt, then it would be a heck of a race.
@NDF211Gunner They say the only reason Blake did not beat Bolts record was he got such a bad reaction time, if Blake had a good reaction time he would actually have got about 19.17 apparently
@MrHarris5406 that was at the end of last season, this is on a bad starrt with a tired tyson gay running into a headwind at the start of the track season
Tyson Gay's effort is honarable. But he lacks, what scientists wrongly affirmed to be a disavantage, has proven to be Bolt's greatest trick. Tyson legs may move faster, but the distance covered by Bolt's is beyond any discution.
@himnagentele04 Bolt and Gay are the only two people in sprinting history that have exceeded 44km/h, there top-end speeds are almost identical but Bolt reaches his earlier, which is exactly what happened in Berlin last year. I never took anything away from Bolt I was just saying how close there top-end speeds are, Bolt's is slightly faster but not by much.
@detroitman21 yea your right.......but you forgot one thing........................this race was done on a straight path, so times are bound to be faster because the momentum the runners normally gain off the curb of a normal 200m is not needed and they use that force as steady climbing kinetic energy.
@emanuelis8 its a different race he cant get the technique down possibly, but when running a bend you get power from the turn pushing into it, on the strait there is no turn, maybe he is better suited for the straight 200m, but he is a fantastic runner he could give bolt a run for his money if he can get the 200m turn down.
if his 100m split was correct when they said (9.88) then that means he negative splitted that race running 9.53 for his second 100, and im pretty sure that would be a world record 100, im a distance runner but that sounds pretty damn good to me lol
Some posters are saying that in a curved 200m, an athlete runs less distance than in a straight 200m - is that correct? I'd always assumed that the inside lane of a 200m is exactly half of the full 400m. If that is correct, then the athlete running in the inside lane must run more than 200m as he can't run exactly on the line - particularly on the bend. Of course, a straight 200m athlete runs exactly 200m.
Bolt doesn't have this record, I'm not even sure that bolt has ran the straight 200m. Tyson broke a 20year old record and thats something to be proud of.
@emanuelis8 I agree, but notice how Gay was able to hang on the Bolt in the final 60m at Berlin? It's because there top-end speeds are almost identical. Gay would have to take Bolt in the first 40m (at least) to have a chance of beating him. Bolt's obviously superior no matter what, but Gay can possibly beat him on a bad day.
@MultiHenry96 The commentator never said that, theres no such thing as "a new world record for 2010" thats called a seasons best. It's a WR (technically world's best since it's not an official event) for the STRAIGHT 200m. The old WR for the straight 200m was a hand-timed 19.5 by Tommie Smith from 1966.
@emanuelis8 yeahp. cuhs, its strategically more difficult, and it causes mental fatigue. thats because, he hasnt RUN IT on a bend yet with his current speed -.-
What's to say that Tyson gets an awesome start and maintains top speed throughout? He could be aweosme, just needs a bit of luck. Not to mention he is also running into a -0.4 m/s wind. :)
@Dune571 Obviously if Bolt's the 100m, straight 150m, and 200m WR he's capable of breaking the straight 200m WR too. Straight 200m times are much faster than open 200m times, which showed this year with Gay's SB's (19.41 straight vs 19.72 open). And it's a fact that Bolt's a better starter than Gay. In Berlin he had the 6th slowest reaction (.146) but was already ahead before 20m. It was the first 60m where Bolt was really pulling away, as far as top-end speed Bolt and Gay are almost identical.
@emanuelis8 Running on a bend DOES produce faster times. The reason for why Gay can't get close is because he's not that good on the bends. Bends allow for an extra speed boost coming out of the curves, a "rubberband effect."
@capinyoassproduction Forrest was a long distance runner. I know plenty of people that can run for miles (compared to me being able to barely complete a mile) while I can absolutely destroy them in a race 400 meters or under.
i think that you are right. i watched some of tyson races tyson gay starts are slow of the blocks gay would have to take bolt in the first 40m or better in order to have a chance in beating bolt true. i think your wrong,on this point take a look at gay's earlier races he was much smaller, his last race against bolt. take a look, he's a lot bigger , his lower half anyways. i think he's fine tuning his technique, gain some power, and heightened his second gear. he got to work on his starts
@zk92000 Ya thats true, just like Johnson improved from 19.66 to 19.32 but 19.58 and 19.41 are still completely different times, and I wouldn't say it's improvement, it's just that his 19.41 was on a strait compared to his 19.58 on a regular 200m. I agree that a strait 200m is harder mentally but at the same time I also think it's faster.
I luuuv speed. Nothing cooler than watching a human push their bodies to run at speeds of over 25 mph. Seeing these men(super humans) run in real life is ridiculous.
I really like Tyson Gay's stride; he's one of my favorite sprinters.
tyson has a way of running just looks cool badass you know lolol
PapiDarko true bro smooth and cool
1:03 jetpacks engage...
1:05 almost runs past camera
1:08 initiate cruise control..
1:20 power down ...
1:25 systems cool off..
What a great demonstration of upright sprinting and body control
I can't believe it's been almost a decade since I last watched this race. Time flies 😂😂😎😂😎
@Dedrick ‘Dooky’ Gobert yes cuz Tyson Gay ran that race in 2010. It's 2019. Almost a decade 😁😊
💫
think about this, he ran the first 100 in 9.88 and the 2nd 100 in 9.54. That is insane, I wish there were more straight 200 races. I think Noah Lyles or Michael Norman could eventually do something like this.

my favorite sprinter.. love his determination, he works so hard and is my inspiration on the track
same
Second fastest man in the world, he deserves respect! One of the greatest!
Blake ?
Hihi Weee,Bro blake has a much faster 200m PB and blake 9.69s was into a slight headwind and tyson gay 9.69 was with +2.0M/S max wind,so it aint even close blake faster

There's something so dream like about this race.
Man that's quick
I believe Tyson Gay is clean and should be allowed to compete
I love it how amazing Tyson is, he still manages to remain humble.
Wow that trolley adds a great perspective on just how fast they're going!
In a article when tysons personal trainer i think, said he runs too fast for his body i can see what he said him slightly bobbing and swaying is from the power
I fucking love Tyson's technique. So relaxed but yet so powerful and demolishing
You know how fast Bolt is? He ran roughly the same time with a bend! Really puts things into perspective of how quick Bolt is.
Alpha Buff usain bolt has the world record in 19.19 with a bend he still would've won you dope haha
im_solomon which makes Bolt even better :)
im_solomon that’s what she said dumbass
Alpha Omega Although Tyson Gay holds the record for the fastest curve at 9.99 which is actually insane. His 200m with a bent wouldn't be too much different from this one.
Tyson Gay runs better couse Usain runs everywhere his running form is not good Tyson Gay is stable and solid
So he unofficially tied the 150m world record with Usain Bolt
Bolt was 14.35 though
@WARRIOR FIGHTER PAHLAWAN are u really that stupid?! He even admited that Bolt is the better sprinter. But at that paticular race gay was faster the first 150 meters.
Wow listen to the wind that his sum epic flash sonic the hedgehog shit
@1:02?u can hear the nigga galloping wtf thats scary speed
That must feel so weird running a 200m like that.
400 meters on a straight line....that would be really hard to run too...Tyson is in super top shape I'm glad hi is injury free this year.
I've always Liked Tysons Gay , he has always been very respectful and humble considering his amazing career. As a massive Bolt fan I generally can't get into races when Bolt is not competing. ...but Gay is the exception. 👍👍
This is actually impressive as hell. 19.41 on a straight track wtf. Must of been in sub 19.3 shape on a normal track
Straight is literally easier
@@bobfred1282 What are you even talking about. A straight is much easier. The bend actually slows you down.
AfroBuddy where’s the proof buddy
Let him breath first!
When Manchester was still a great city to live in.
Tyson gay has excellent form!
His stride is amazing!
in a 100m race you start crouching on the ground not moving, but he was already running by the time started the second 100m
Usain had a +1.0 wind and got 14.35 in the 150m Tyson had a -0.4headwind. So give Tyson Gay that same wind Usain had and that = breaking the 150m record.
He didn't even have to hit the curve and what slows everyone down is the cruve
well they mean for the 200 straight, with the curve, its always different, they usually count it separately, like how the theres an indoor 200m and outdoor 200m because most indoor tracks are 200m
with the curve you can actually make the distance shorter.. you just gotta run close to the line
" we're ALL fucked" I know one Jamaican guy who would beg to differ
Tyson is bad ass!!!!
This guy has a never say die attitude, he is a great competitor.
This is really cool. They should do this more often. Everyone gets a ring-side seat!
MAN PEOPLE THINK THIS IS SOMETHING... IF HE WAS A RUNNING BACK IN THE NFL HE WOULD EASILY HAVE 1000 YARDS LIKE THE 2 SEASON.. THUMBS UP IF YOU THINK
4:25 seeing the people and buildings FLY by really shows what world-class speed is. very entertaining.
@phastman1994
Yeah, Bolt ran 14.35 which is slightly faster than Gay's SPLIT time. Anyway we are talking about a 50m longer race here, that makes difference.
Steve crams best sprint distance commentator in my opinion.
@smash37 ye it is. This is a straight 200m, its like running indoor or outdoor its different WR... same when u run a straight 200 and a standard one with a curve (stadium races).
Can we just consider the fact that Tyson Gay ran 14.41 at the 150m w negative wind? Bolt record is 14.35 crazy to think that he could have beaten it
The Street City event organisers should try their best to attract Blake/Bolt/Powell next year, especially with races being so close to the crowd. They've already attracted Bolt, Gay and Spearmon so I see no reason why not. Imagine standing at 50m when Asafa storms to a 9.8x... now that's priviledge.
that looks fun running through the city like that, having all those buildings blow past as you run.
Impressive run. Scary to think Bolt's almost quarter second faster even on a circular track with the same headwind.
I GOT ALOT OF RESPECT FOR TYSON GAY AND USAIN BOLT. THEY ARE A TREAT TO WATCH.
@jesusisbac agree...was sitting here wondering why there were no comments about it...good point!
@MrBlewis01 Agreed, and thats exactly what he did in Stockholm when he beat Bolt, he overtook him in the first 40m and hung on.
@musik102 wrong, the muscle that you use are slightly different when running the curve. therefore when you run it straight you get far more muscle fatigue
great race TG, excellent times along the way also
Well don't forget, Usain Bolt, putting it bluntly, is a freak of nature. At 6'5, his legs are still able to move as fast as someone around 5'10 or 5'11. my favourite sportspeople are tyson GAY and david SEAMAN!
@MrWest1600 IMO a strait 200m is harder but at the same time faster, the sling shot effect is a benefit for a curved 200m but at the same time you're not running a curve against gravity for the entire first 100m when it's on a strait. By: some guy from my local news site.

Damn. It takes me 20 seconds to run 100 meters!!! Wow!
@junmun123 What's more impressive is that the race had another 50 meters to go, so who knows how fast he would have finished if it was just 150?
This race looks epic.
Thanks to his surname he is where he is now. He was being dissed constantly and that fact motivated him to train hard. >D
@emanuelis8
yeahp.
cuhs, its strategically more difficult, and it causes mental fatigue.
thats because, he hasnt RUN IT on a bend yet with his current speed -.-
What's to say that Tyson gets an awesome start and maintains top speed throughout? He could be aweosme, just needs a bit of luck. Not to mention he is also running into a -0.4 m/s wind. :)
this guys are runing in superhuman speed
Tyson fast man
Always likeed his raw speed
This was an early season run, let alone Tyson's first 200 of the season. Yohan ran his 19.26 in his peak phase/late season. No comparison
not bad! I hope he brings his best against Bolt!
he looks very confident this year
@Dune571 Obviously if Bolt's the 100m, straight 150m, and 200m WR he's capable of breaking the straight 200m WR too. Straight 200m times are much faster than open 200m times, which showed this year with Gay's SB's (19.41 straight vs 19.72 open).

yes. he will run this again
look how relaxed he is at 2:58
he absolutely destroy this guys behind him!
@MidnightH3ro I'm a Bolt fan but I agree!
I luuuv speed. Nothing cooler than watching a human push their bodies to run at speeds of over 25 mph. Seeing these men(super humans) run in real life is ridiculous.
respect for tyson gay
@shadow1985ism acually running the str8 is harder...the curve gives u a slingshot so tyson cudve ran 19.3 something
@NJNupe1911 So true, and we can take it back from them by letting the big man Bolt run that same race. He'll do it in about 19.10
amazing time considering his poor start - can't wait to see what he has in store for the race this year...
仮に最後の50mを 100m~150m までのタイムと同じタイムで走ったとしたら ちょうど 19秒00
