Strangely, DiStefano name didn't just fell to 4th or 5th, it kept falling to the point that he is usually not mention in the top 10 or even top 20. For me, he is the greatest ever. Far more complete than any player has ever been, an absolutely incredible club career (13 League titles, 5 European Cups, and lot more accolades), an influence bar none for any club, and a legacy that still stands tall in the football world. He was a total footballer before total football even became a proper philosophy. There have several legendary footballers. There have Pele and Maradona, Cruyff and Beckenbauer, Platini and Zico, Puskas and Kocsis, Muller and Eusebio, Garrincha and Stanley Matthews, Charlton and Moore, Baresi and Scirea, Maldini and Carlos Alberto, Zidane and R9, Messi and Cristiano, etc. But Alfredo di Stefano reigns supreme, above all the footballers to have existed, and possibly to ever exist.
Good idea as some are incredibly inaccurate, for example Zidane being higher than Cruyff, Giggs being the same as Figo and Rivaldo, Moore being the same as Puyol (and even lower on his PIM) + Rush being equal to Kaká and Laudrup
A biography of santiago bernabeau would be amazing someone who literally made the biggest club in sports history but most people don't even know he existed
Fun fact: After the Munich Air Disaster, Real Madrid offered Alfredo Di Stefano on loan to United, but the move was rejected by the FA on the grounds that he would would hinder the progress of a British player.
What a great channel you have. So informative and getting out information that doesn't involve the merchandising that is Messi and especially Ronaldo. Every time I go to Spain and speak to the older generation thy all tell me how the blonde arrow was the most influential and greatest player in history. I've been watching alot of Di Stefano lately, and what really impressed me is how he picks up the ball in defence, midfield or attack. He really was an orchestrator without parralel. With a level of fitness like I've never witnessed till today. Out of what I've seen he and Maradona are the greatest players in history. There's just a couple of errors I believe you make on this great video. There is no proof Franco had anything to do regarding Di Stefano or Spanish football. No matter how much Barca fans try to promote it. It would have been the Spanish FA and not the government involved in any decisions concerning the blonde arrow or any other football decisions. And it is totally factual that the city of Madrid fought against Francos forces for three long years ,where as Catalonia no matter how much they like to lie surrendered with in a matter of weeks. Still to this day you can see monuments and buildings that were damaged by Francos forces in the Spanish capital. I'm still waiting for a Catalan to show me the same in Barcelona. Apart from that your videos are great and the more people that view them the less ignorance in the football world. Big thumbs up.
Image one player who had the entire opposition, from GK to striker, on strings and in his pocket for 90 minutes. I can't wrap my head round that, but Di Stefano did it every single game, year after year. No other footballer has ever done that. Pure Genius.
What an incredibly accurate video. Congrats. Maybe one on the great Real Madrid president Santiago Bernabeu would be just as fitting. It is believed that these two legends are responsible for converting Real Madrid into the undeniable biggest club on earth on any measure
As a Millonarios fan I was ecstatic during the entirety of this video. The last 30 years our team has been living a great debacle, one of our only comforts was the "glorious" history of this club, mainly driven by tales of El Dorado and the legend of Di Stefano. Great video Alfie, looking forward to your book. Only those Santa Fe idiots would be able to waste having one of the best defenders playing on their side.
I don’t know why people call Ronaldo real’s greatest ever player without thinking twice. Di Stefano is an underrated genius. You can also make a video on bernebeu
As great as Di stefano likely was, it’s hard for me personally to rank a player that I’ve seen limited footage of at best above the likes of ronaldo who I watched do near super human things on a weekly basis.
Di Stéfano was the first historical Football legend I have learned about after Pelé and Maradona, when I read the book about the greatest players in history when I was 15. Since then, names like Puskás, Kubala, Zico, Socrates, Eusébio and him have been ingrained in my memory as the greatest players ever, next to Maradona and Pelé of course. It was the time when Messi and Ronaldo weren't known yet. I knew the more recent guys like van Basten, Beckenbauer, Müller, Klinsmann and such because they were mentioned a lot but these old or less mentioned South American legends were new to me.
thnks to ur channel ive come to knwn a lot abt some of d true legends of d game frm d past .... keep doin these kind of videos .... or else people here in my country only knws abt Pele and Maradona frm past ...
Because like all the "superclubs", most of their "fans" are not from Madrid or Barcelona and have only watched the team in the last 15 years, on their sofa. Or highlights montages.
Great video, I like how you don't forget and actively campaign for the greats of the past! If I may add one tiny point of criticism, there were a few pronunciations of Spanish and Portuguese that were off. Of course nobody expects you to sound like a native speaker, but I think now some names might not even be recognizable to a native speaker. For example, Gerson, who you rate so highly, is not pronounced with the G sounding as in 'get' or 'spaghetti', but rather sounds like Zherson, pichichi is pronounced pitchitchi and La máquina and El Monumental have the stress on a different syllable. Obviously it's not super important, but as a Dutchman I always greatly appreciate it when I see a video where Dutch names are pronounced correctly, or at least as close to correctly as one might hope for from a foreigner. Example, most English people know about the letter J in names like Ajax or De Jong, but when I hear Willem II being pronounced as Willem tway (the phonetical English spelling of the number 2, or twee in Dutch) it makes me feel like the person went the extra mile. But if you don't have the time for it, that's totally cool too. Keep the videos coming, loving them!
Can you make a video where you explain the meanings of football teams in the former Soviet Union. Examples: CSKA Moscow, Spartak Moscow, Lokomotiv Moscow, Dinamo Moscow, Dinamo Kiev, Dinamo Dresden, Zenit St. Petersburg, Shaktar Donetsk, etc.
I wish we had more footage of guys like di Stefano, Puskas, and Yashin. We have a lot of footage of guys like pele, cruyff, beckenbauer, and Eusebio, and we also have some but not a ton of footage of players like, Moore, best and charleton, but with players like di stefano it’s so limited and low quality. I would give a lot to witness some of those games
I know the chance of Alfie reading this is close to zero, but is there any chance that there is gonna be a video about the Austrian wonder team of the 1930s at some point? If anyone could do them justice it would be Alfie.

Pelé & Di Stéfano always top my list, as the top two players of all time, because they were the two most complete players in every facet of the game. Total skill sets from dribbling, passing, ball improvisations, goalscoring, playmaking , tackling. They were equally adept with both feet. Great headers of the ball & great team organisers. floating all over the pitch during a match. Simple the best!
I don't think Franco would have stood for Barcelona be coming the dominant team in Spain. It might not have been Real but one of the Madrid clubs would surely have received his backing.

Also that River Plate team, the Machine, is legendary because most people said they basically played with 5 forwards....almost no defense necessary because they would exert so much pressure on the rival all the match
Don’t understand how such a good video can have so little views
Quality videos that provide education are not popular in this generation because nowadays the world is most full of Ignorant foolish people who don't like educational content, they only like stupid content because they don't have the ability to understand good content

Because Millennials think football started 2003
Played Goalkeeper in Super Classici!!! He's The Craziest and Bravest of the Kings
After Pele.
Well Pele could and did everything Di Stefano did and that's why he is the greatest.
@A Footballing Genius Pele is no1 dispute the rest
@A Footballing Genius elaborate.
@A Footballing Genius why do you say so?
day 5: reviewing fifa 20’s icons: how accurate are they
Good idea as some are incredibly inaccurate, for example Zidane being higher than Cruyff, Giggs being the same as Figo and Rivaldo, Moore being the same as Puyol (and even lower on his PIM) + Rush being equal to Kaká and Laudrup
@@canarycatchup I'm interested in seeing your views on the icon ratings you mentioned, I.e. which one of them you want to be higher rated

Fun fact: After the Munich Air Disaster, Real Madrid offered Alfredo Di Stefano on loan to United, but the move was rejected by the FA on the grounds that he would would hinder the progress of a British player.
Wow
Big thumbs up for the comment as well. Quite informative, and I’d definitely take a closer look at the history of it.
Image one player who had the entire opposition, from GK to striker, on strings and in his pocket for 90 minutes. I can't wrap my head round that, but Di Stefano did it every single game, year after year. No other footballer has ever done that. Pure Genius.
Would you say he's the best?

Great video, love your content on historical football, it's not given enough time by football fans
I don’t know why people call Ronaldo real’s greatest ever player without thinking twice. Di Stefano is an underrated genius.
You can also make a video on bernebeu
Because his footage is in black and white and he never played in champions' league era many fickle fans will discount him.
@mPky1 Possibly. But some people instantly ignore it because the clips are old.
As great as Di stefano likely was, it’s hard for me personally to rank a player that I’ve seen limited footage of at best above the likes of ronaldo who I watched do near super human things on a weekly basis.
@@archstanton6102 he won 5 champions leagues in a row, lol.

Yoy should make a separate video about that Real team. Generally I love football history so the more retro video you do, the better it is with me
The fact that this only has 11k views is an abomination. Another wonderful video Alfie!
DI Stefano Sivori Maradona Messi ... I mean we dont know WHO the next Football genius will be ... but we Know for sure WHERE he will be born 🇦🇷🇦🇷
i was about 5 when i first heard & saw Di sefano, as a child i thought he was the greatest player ever now all these years later i think the same
thnks to ur channel ive come to knwn a lot abt some of d true legends of d game frm d past .... keep doin these kind of videos .... or else people here in my country only knws abt Pele and Maradona frm past ...
Amazing how the greatest Argentine players have Italian blood - Di Stefano, Maradona and Messi.
Surprised that Real and Barca fans don't debate more about Di Stefano and Cruyff more than Messi and Ronaldo
Because like all the "superclubs", most of their "fans" are not from Madrid or Barcelona and have only watched the team in the last 15 years, on their sofa. Or highlights montages.
Di Stefano is not talked about by a lot of Madrid fans themselves or don't even know him while most barca fans know about cruyff's influence on fcb
Pele ,Maradona and Di Stefano are best 3 all played when defenders were allowed to tackle
Can you do one on Stanley Matthews?
I wished you would tell more about the partnership with Puskas. To me they seem like a single player with four legs.
Thanks a lot for this amazing video

We have a lot of footage of guys like pele, cruyff, beckenbauer, and Eusebio, and we also have some but not a ton of footage of players like, Moore, best and charleton, but with players like di stefano it’s so limited and low quality.
