thanks for the upload, it really helps. I am having some trouble with my dpa pump. There is no diesel on the high pressure in any of the 4 exit hoses. i suspect/hope to be a clogged inlet filter. Tomorrow i will remove the whole inlet, lets see how it goes..
hey! it was a clogged inlet filter after all. Apparently i have a rusty fuel tank that is contaminating the whole system. Although i have a pre filter installed, small particles managed to reach the pump. Any hints on how to clean a rusty tank without removing it?
I should remove the drain plug and flush it out with diesel. If that doesn't do it you'll be better of with a new tank I assume. Last thing you want is abrasive dirt in your pump and injectors.
Do all cav pumps have the ball bearing in the auto timing bolt. Mine has a recessed spot on the bolt but not sure if every pump has this ball. I did not see anything fall when I took it off.

You're using 15W40 engine oil to lubricate am I correct? I might be doing my own pump soon and need to know what lubes etc to get in advance. Did you take the circlip out that's used as a timing marker through the inspection door? I worked on a landrover recently the circlip was in the wrong way around and made timing hard 😂

May not be the pump at all. It could be the injectors. If the tips get dirty or clogged, they won't spray the fuel in the proper pattern to get easy ignition. I'd check that before going the injection pump route.

This video could easily be an hour long for owners to dismantle and re-seal and re-spring, if necessary, their CAV DPA 3249F750 diesel pumps for Series 3 Landrovers. Also what about the large seal at the base of the pump that prevents diesel at transfer pump pressure from getting into the engine oil? There is only one other RUclips video on CAV DPA pumps and that is 58 minutes long. Great video, but too much to absorb using time-lapse photos in 13 minutes!
@@jasonfrodoman1316 You can slow it down, but there's still no audio. It's ridiculous to go to the trouble to make a video like this and not have audio explaining the process. That 58-minute video from England is the best I've seen so far. You can watch it at 1.5 times normal speed and see the whole thing in about the same amount of time than doing this one at 1/4 speed, and the explanation of what he's doing is excellent. Videos without audio are useless, especially when it's a complex part like an injection pump. There's lots of "gotcha's" there that a little explanation would help avoid. Number 1 rule when working on anything in a diesel fuel system is cleanliness, cleanliness and more cleanliness. I small bit of contamination can easily destroy a pump.

But I have a question to the Land Rover CAV DPA expert in connection with a fuel leak in my Series 2.25 diesel: Any thoughts on why fuel is leaking from the pump where the banjo fitting is for the line to the injector? Fuel seems to be coming out of the banjo fitting, but its a fairly steady stream an even after applying the usual fixes to the banjo fitting (cleaning contact area, using new washers), the leak persists. Could it come from the seam between the base and the top of the pump, which is right under the banjo fitting? Any advice on how to fix this? Many thanks, and keep the Series III videos coming!!

No, I don't adjust the pumps. The only adjustments you can make is the stroke of the plunjers and the position of the cam ring by adding or removing washers behind the spring. What I do is freeing up all the parts, give the whole pump a thorough clean and renew the inlet filter, gaskets, O-rings and copper washers. After completion I fill the pump with diesel and spin the pump shaft, then you will see the diesel squirting out of the injection lines.

Hey man , I have a DPC pump. I have disassembled everything on it but no matter how hard I push the pump head it doesn’t come off.. though it rotates but doesn’t want to come off .. any ideas ? Is there a trick or something ? Every single video I watch they just pull it off but that’s not the case on mine
Pumpheads can be really stuck in the housing. If you are sure all locking bolts are released then you can put it in the vice and gently wiggle the head op.
i got a brain teaser for ya / case 580k backhoe with a SKU: JR916523. 4cyl inj pump . starts ok cold but after we get to operateing temp and i key off engine . i can start it right back up in next 60 ish seconds if wait longer it wont start / no fuel condition / but if i loosen the drain on the feul/water seperator just to relieve the pressure in the line it will start up .? if i loosen any connection beetween the inj pump and fuel pump and drip out some deisel it will start , if i wait a considerable time and go back to start it will get going . i tried solenoid replace with case /ebay solenoids and no help . i even took a old solenoid and chopped off the rubber button and that fixed the start but it wont stop unless i pull the manual lever on top ?? help is there supposed to be residual pressure in that section (inj pump to feul pump)after you shut down or does it bleed of back into the return line to tank .
DPA Pump See Distributor type injection pump. DPA stands for distributor pump A, but other marks and types have now been developed.(www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/auto_terms_dpa_pump)

Most likely the metering valve is stuck in the 'stop' position. So it's not letting fuel tru. Good luck with it mate.

The most important seal of all in the thing and you didn't change it, wow, you must have just cleaned it up for a door stop.

Is that a special rinch at 4.08 to remove those two head bolts from main pump.

Hillbilly Hellion , when I repair pumps, I recalibrate thier on the bench and I amount of fuel delivery.
