- I am irrationally thrilled with this creamy Potato Leak Soup (PLS). It has so few ingredients that I feel like it has no right to be as delicious as it is. I attribute that mostly to the dill, of course, but also the Better Than Bouillion vegetable bouillion (I also love their chicken bouillon) and the small amount of vinegar at the end. It’s definitely heavy on the leeks which are not only great for flavor but also texture. Inspired by all the times I’ve eaten twice-cooked pork at a number of Szechuan restaurants (if you’re in Brooklyn, I love Authentic Szechuan Tofu of 5th Avenue), I wanted to use the whole leek, not just the white and light green parts (I often do this in my own cooking because I hate waste). Raw or briefly cooked, the darker stems are definitely tougher but simmered for a while with the potatoes, it cooks down into something perfectly tender without melting into nothingness.
This soup is about as flexible as I get. Don’t have waxy potatoes? You can use russets. Before the sour cream is added, this soup is technically vegan, but it doesn’t have to be. Use butter instead of olive oil, chicken stock instead of vegetable broth. Yogurt instead of sour cream. Want to top with some crispy cured pork situation? Sure! This would also be excellent topped with smoked trout, sardines, or salmon. But, please, whatever you do, please don’t skip the dill. Nothing can replace the dill.

idk if this makes sense but your tiny kitchen, normal kitchen tools, and accessible ingredient list is so appealing. its actually relatable and doesn't make people feel like they have to be a professional chef to make the dishes
Right??? When I first saw this I was like "ugh am I going to need an immersion blender...." but very pleasantly surprised!
@4Freedom4All and a husband for Allison!
I know, it's so relatable and I also find smallish spaces to be very cozy and comforting. She's since moved to a new place with a much larger kitchen and fridge. While her new kitchen is beautiful and I'm so happy for her success (she deserves it), I definitely miss her old kitchen!
Nah it makes no sense I just don’t understand what you’re trying to say ………………..
@@alleyoop2899 me too
This is, without a doubt, the best part of Tuesdays
i agree
Almost as good as Gamestop
Yes
@@alisoneroman I stopped disliking Tuesdays only because of you!
Couldn't Agree More. Every Tuesday I religiously wait for her video. Alison energy ❤️❤️
I remember reading this recipe and being like "wow, sounds boring" and then making it and being like "wow, how can I be eating this soup forever"
Potato, Dill and Sour Cream- the essence of all the soups my Russian grandmother made. Thanks for sharing this, brought back some sweet memories.
I swear, both the chaos and the editing of these videos get better every week. Exponentially. Love it.
MAKE THIS SOUP!!!!!!!!!! Please! I beg of every person who’s reading. It’s SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!! Although this is not a Polish soup recipe, with the potatoes and the dill... white wine vinegar... my husband walked in the kitchen and said it smells like a typical Polish kitchen! We both loved this!!! I was worried the green onion would overpower the dill, but it didn’t. I did everything just as directed with the exception of using part low sodium chicken broth and water and it was still super flavorful. Paired with homemade sourdough and it was the absolute perfect rainy day meal! Thank you for posting this recipe that I’ll be making for many many years to come! So grateful!
We’ve never been to Poland, but we have made videos of cool foods from our travels. Have you ever used a tagine to cook a meal?
Honestly, the editing is as good as the recipes. When “The More You Know!” star showed up I actually screamed a little.
The soup has big dill energy
😂😂
When Alison said, “I’m not going back in that fridge.” But then proceeds to go back to the fridge, I felt that.
Wait...You can use the whole leek?!!?!?! I am shook. I feel like every episode blows my mind. First, the buttermilk revelation, and now this. I can't wait to see how my world changes next Tuesday.
Made soup. Loved soup so much that I’m rewatching *while* I eat the leftovers, and I realize we are both using an East Fork everyday bowl. I swear it was an accident but now I realize I am that super fan you were trying to find footage of.
Tuesday’s are my favorite day now.
You may like Saturday’s when we post our desserts 🧁
I've been making these recipes she's been posting and she is just right about everything
@Zachariah B How did the eggplant dish turn out? I’m making it the next time I ditch work.
@@bkbjorn3487 I made the eggplant, and it’s delicious!
@@bkbjorn3487 I too made the eggplant and it was incredible. couldn't recommend it enough. Even added the anchovies and she was right about that too, despite the fact that I'd say I don't like anchovies.
Sometimes I am thankful I live on youtube. It allows me to be here early and often.
I'm an American living in perpetually-grey England, and this soup just brightened this dreary day so much. Thank you!
The comic timing is impeccable. This is both a cooking and a comedy program.
Alison, your recipe is the second I watch and know it is it. All your steps make sense, your ingredients are convincing, and your good humor is what spices the video. Thanks.
Love the story of Stone Soup. It's about community and collaboration! Great soup recipe! Already made it 5 times since your newsletter!
I think it’s about a con man who tricks a village into feeding him 😂
This is an absolute staple of French cuisine with variations. Classic.
Yup, potage Parmentier.
This is the first of your videos I’ve ever seen and WHAT A RIDE. Literally where have you been my whole life?
PLS is seriously my favourite. LOVE IT! Thank you Alison.
I msde this soup today. My daughter and i watched Allison's videos and i saw this recipe. Its so delicious
I made the appke cake too, super easy and comforting. I have her dining in cookbook, will get sweet enough now. Love the videos, so funny and learn so many great recipes.
I’ve now made 6 of your recipes, and I gotta say I have not been amazed every time! Although honestly, I find myself watching your videos for entertainment more than the education. You’re a great personality and a great cook! Thanks for your help in the kitchen and keeping me entertained on Tuesdays😊
I never thought anyone loved dill as much as I do but here we are!
Alison has definitely inspired me! I love how she piles on the scallions and the DILL! Cannot wait to try this recipe.
Made this today. It was one of the best meals I've made in a while.
10/10 - loved this recipe! So easy and def adding to the rotation. I followed it pretty much exactly except that I cooked the leeks/ potatoes a lot longer since i'm someone who loves a little caramelization and added a parmesan rind when simmering! SO good and the vinegar is a must.
I'm going to try this as soon as I finish my bean stew 😋! Thanks Alison Roman and team, this is my favourite thing about Tuesday this winter 😊
My life got a little better once Alison returned to YT.
❤️
I’m obsessed with cooking shows and there are very few cooks (RUclips or on tv) that I haven’t followed. But nobody has inspired me to cook like your videos have - the technique is simple, ingredients available. You are the only one who doesn’t make me give up on a recipe before I even start!
Thank you so much for such great content, consistently. I did fuck up your brothy beans today though, but I’ll try it again and report
I just made this soup for dinner tonight and I couldn’t be happier. Absolutely delicious! And so easy... Thanks, Alison!
You are the best part of my week! So thankful you are here!
I always buy a pack of 3 leeks from the supermarket here in England when the single ones have sold out, but only really need one for my version of Kinugasa Don so am left wondering how to use up the others as leek generally doesn't feature much in my cooking (unless I'm making a cauldron of Provencal style Minestrone). I love sour cream, potato and dill so I'm thrilled to have had this video recommended for me by The Algorithm. I could live on soup and very nearly do. This soup reminded me of Russian Pickle soup, so I know I'm going to love it. Thanks Alison for covering me this week: my husband's having a root canal in a few days so will only be willing to tackle food that he can slurp with ingredients 'that are so tender they're falling apart'. You made perfect sense to me, I'm THAT superfan!
So nice to curl up and watch you after a long day at work. Don't like till but love your enthusiasm
Thanks for just being yourself and showing some personality. Enjoyed watching and cooking.
I love her cooking! And she is just so relatable!
Been waiting all week for your video and recipes! Love it
You are probably one of my favorite cooks out there. I truly enjoy your recipes and I love the fact that you have a small kitchen at home that you totally make work (I can relate). I look forward to trying this recipe out, it’s been a little cold in L.A. and this would hit the spot ❤️
I ABSOLUTELY LOOOVE YOUR CHANNEL! Your recipes are awesome and I’ve made them ALL! I totally get your humor and I am that SUPERFAN! lol 😂 ❤️ I’ll be making the PLS this week!
I've been watching Alison for years now (pre The Cookies, so you know I'm a real fan) and seeing her growth on camera has been so cool! She is easily my favorite person to watch on RUclips at the moment. Keep up the good work!!!!!! Love u!!!!!!!
How will I ever recover?!!!😍 Made it tonight and just thank you!!!
One of the best soups I've ever made! This was really a surprise. And so simple. You're right. The fresh dill is everything. I love it.
I totally thought this was going to be boring but I am completely ready to make this Friday night. Tuesdays are so much better now! Happy you are here, Alison.
Love that you use the greens, I love them, can’t believe people just toss them!
PSA: Made this PLS and it's the real dill 🌿
💯
This is the best video. I always love cooking and having a good laugh. I learn this way the best
Very cool I love the casual presentation. Great recipe.
I will prepare this soup this week. I love potatoes in everything 😋. Thank you!. The music 🎶 is lovely 😍
“Let’s drink alcohol” 🤣
I am not like other moms, I am a cool mom... if you are going to drink, I’d rather you do it in the house.
I honestly can’t wait to try making this . Looks so good and easy . I just recently stumbled upon you on RUclips . I love how easy and uncomplicated all your recipes are . I’m now a huge fan . Love you girl . I’m from Pa. so we’re neighbors .♥️
I’m so happy you’ve started your own channel! 🥰
This is what’s getting me trough some rough life shtuff it’s so nice to just watch her be happy and making crappy days better! B❤️
I absolutely love this human, not only is she hilarious and generally wonderful, not only does she have the same cooking style as me, but a million times better, but she has all kinds of useful tips. I used one today by saving the nutrient rich water. If you steam in the microwave for example you may have a bit leftover and there is alot of flavor in that. Especially for soup, I think you want to conserve flavor. Beautiful human, here.
Thank you again! I am also in love with Tuesday these days.
We hope you’ll love Saturday’s with our uploads
Yea!! It’s Tuesday, and Alison has a new video 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Fantastic recipe for busy weekdays!
You are so real and authentic. I love that! .. And good chef too!
“I’m a cool mom.”😎 Love the Mean Girls reference. And totally making this soup!
Love 💘 your recipe!!!! And I LOVE dill too!
Omg I was OBSESSED with the book Stone Soup.
Thank you Alison. this soup was mucho delicious.
Love this soup! I Love leeks and have always felt guilty throwing out the greens. It is genius to use it. I don't use dill much, but the use of that with sour cream is heavenly. I love your infectious personality and your common sense approach to cooking. thank you.
Making this again for dinner tonight. PLS FOR LIFE!
Holy shit this brought back a repressed stone soup memory for me
Love your recipes, your humor!
Wow, I just made a pot of this and it's so delicious. It's warming, cozy, and I feel so healthy eating it too. Thank you so much!
This looks AMAZING. While I love dill, a dear friend loves it on your level. I'll be making this soon, and bring her over a carton. And your editing is the bomb!!! Love everything you do.
Ooh I saw this recipe on your site recently, saved it and bought what I needed to cook it this week! So I’m so excited a video on it came out beforehand too! Yay!
I have difficulties to get fresh dill in Spain. But God, driving to the supermarket to get it is SO WORTHY. I really love it.
I made this the other night for me and my boyfriend and it was absolutely delicious! Might be a new staple.
I make and enjoy the smooth version of potato leek soup but am definitely trying this, it looks great - thanks for sharing it!
made this and it's delicious!!! it's a staple for me now
Every time you update i go "omg it's tuesday!!" Thank you for the reminder and great recipe lol
Made this last week. LOVED the soup even before adding the dill and scallions. Here for that big leek flavour!
My favourite time of the week is cooking with Kimmy Gibler 💕
Alison, I could watch you 7 days a week! I look forward to your videos every week but mostly you!! Your energy is amazing, You are the best contagious. I honestly watch your videos more than once. Keep your beautiful vibe. Also can you provide brand name of stone like speckled soup bowl used in video ?
Better Then Buillion is the BEST!!!! Good call on that!
I remember the stone soup story. Thanks for keeping it in the video.
I'm going to make this weekend and I'm very excited about it
really easy and delish! I agree, the dill and scallion topping make this an A+
Alison...you are funny, creative, engaging, and a joy to watch.
Love it.
Tuesday now has a greater purpose in my world. Making soup this weekend!
i'm a fan of your jokes and everything about you and the home videos, absolutely love them
This recipe is a keeper!!!
Love this!! Can't wait to try it!
LOVE this easy soup! Made it with the newsletter, but forgot the white wine vinegar and can't wait to try it again -- 'cuz, it did lack an acid, and that would have been perfect, if i had paid attention to the recipe . . . .!!! TY, A.R., you're the best!
This is so surprisingly good! Just made it tonight for dinner, loved it
Looking awesome
Made this today and it's honestly the best soup i've ever cooked
Oh, this soup! It is on the stove as we speak for dinner tonight (I like it to simmer a while so the flavors know each other well). We love it so much!
Life changing soup
This looks absolutely delicious!
I finally made this soup last week. It was delicious. Thanks :)
Few things make me happier than a new Alison Roman video notification
since you sent this in the newsletter i've made it basically once a week. it's so dang good with a dollop of sour cream, a bunch of fresh ground pepper, and like the whole clamshell of dill on a single bowl. i always eat with crusty bread. for any possible skeptics- it's so much more fun than you'd think!!!!
Love your soup for dinner
When you made the chicken in one pot ,I decided to make that night. So I shared with my neighbor. She said it was the best chicken . So I made it again. So I made the soup looked into my fridge and found everything but the leeks, off to the market. Again so easy and good. Love your take on simple. Who needs box meals you still have to prepare. I added juice from my yellow peppers jar for a little kick. Plus dropped about six of them.
Stone Soup still enters my mind regularly when cooking soup and this made me realize I don’t know when I read it or why it made such a deep impression ✨
