I can hear no difference with or without. Your technique is amazing
🧡🧡
must be deaf lol
Agreed no difference hey here’s a question, guys have been shredding for years and that concept could have easily been used in the past , why popular now?! Answer cuz there a lot of dumbfux these days pushing this shit
At some point I'll probably give those a go. But for now I'm trying to increase my speed, so I need to hear my mistakes clearly.
Hell yeah, don't let anything stand in the way of you improving 😎
0:58 don’t think I didn’t notice that was the start of the Pokémon battle theme
For quite a while I was anti-wrap for some idiotic reason. I thought they looked nerdy. But now those nerds shred way harder than me and here I am, shitty, bitter and a fan boy of all these shredders haha. Your playing is so clean dude. Bravo.
🙏🏼🙏🏼
is ok for recording if you want to sound your best, but not good for everyday use imo better to have it in your tool box than not to have
Its also looks cool and makes you look professional 😎 My bright orange fretwrap on my all black Jackson 7 string adds a really nice flair
Well I be. Never seen a fret wrap before this video. Another thing I need to buy.
Very informative. Subscribed
Thanks for sharing
Nice Strat!
Hey what sizes are best for electric necks in particular Ibanez Jem ? Thanks
So would a compression/sustainer kind of like cancel it out?
I’m still learning and I’ve been doing some basic sweep picking to get better at the technique, it’s only a 3 string sweep with a pull off and the melody moves around 3 positions and slightly changes the fretting pattern each time, what I can’t seem to shake is the unwanted noise I’m making as I pull my index finger off one string real fast to get it ready for the next note it needs to hit, I’m doing a pull off unintentional ly and letting the open string ring slightly. I’m trying hard to just do the sweep and coordinate both hands etc that I have no idea how I’m going to mute that noise. I kinda thought that with practice and repetition my technique will get smoother and I’ll hopefully be able to do it with more ease and smoothness and this accidental noise won’t be happening anymore. And I’ve started recording little riffs and melodies and as soon as I started recording I really noticed all of my little flaws. It’s a good thing as it’s making me improve my sound and control of noise but I deffo think that one of these fret wraps would be useful for when I’m recording and also showing off my sweeps and awesomeness but I deffo don’t want to make it a thing I depend upon. Thanks for the video
I heard a part of Thunder March! Good man!! ❤️❤️
what the rift that starts at 1:41 from?
A piece of foam behind the nut does a good job dampening sympathetic ringing. A sock wrapped around the neck is good enough for recording lead passages. Fret wraps are more about convenience.
A pencil and a hair tie can replace a capo if you really want them to... But you can't slide that sock behind the nut to free up the open strings as quickly as you could a Fretwrap
What is the sweep lick at 1:40?
My guitar teacher used the fuzzy hair ties
As he should
I use a velcro zip tie for the same effect, works like a charm. :)
Anything is better than nothing, at least your recordings will he free of unwanted resonance 😁
@@sixstringtv1 Exactly :D Nothing worse than having a recording ruined by unwanted resonance.
So what happens when you have a clip on tuner at the headstock. Then you put the fret wrap past the nut. The tuner most likely doesn’t work. Correct? Since it works on vibrations.
The tuner would still work, the whole guitar is vibrating at the same pitch
It's just a waste of time to put anything between the nut and the tuners. They never used anything like that on thousands of great recordings and no one ever complained! But putting a fret wrap on the first fret opens up a lot of potential! You can even do first position chords up and down the neck!
Ok MOM!!!
Great video by the way.
You're welcome, my child.
thanks 😎
This is an issue I have had with playing guitar for over 20 years now as I have not only learned playing technical death metal over the years it has caused a different problem in that most guitars simply can't keep up with how fast and technical my playing is resulting in fret buzz and learning to control my technique or rather put it on a leash as fret wraps or scrunchies simply didn't work in limiting fret buzz. However, I have found a much better alternative solution as there are some guitars which are built to eliminate fret buzz by having a metal bar screwed on top of the headstock to mute the strings from too much noise. An example of these are the original Ibanez Universe guitars from the 90s (recently picked up a 1990 UV7BK) that has the metal bar screwed in the headstock so fret buzz in eliminated and allows your full technique to be unleashed. Guitars without this feature could be modded with precision to build and screw in a metal bar but would require lutherie skills beyond a normal player.
Or just be a normal person and get a fret wrap 😂
1:00 me when a wild Pokemon attacks
I like things as they were, personally. I play noise sludge, though.
Does anyone else feel like it makes your play sound more deliberate?
A good reason to use a fret wrap is instead of a capo. You can place it where you'd put a capo but it wont affect your action and cause pinching like a capo will higher up the board (depending how you've set your action up in the first place). Great for if a song is played higher up and you want to learn the notes/frets to use (for learners more than "pro's").
0:58. homeboy seriously nailed the pokemon battle intro
just visited to express my appreciation for your video on YJM. I feel exactly same as you. I do even own the scorebook from the 90's!!!
Glad you enjoyed the vid 🤩
I think Ronnie Montrose said it best, if you know who he is… Says to use “whatever works best. “
My main question is, as a newbie to fretwrap, could I simply leave it on (at the very top of the fretboard at the nut) and not worry about it compressing strings if it's on tight? should I really only put it on when using and take it off when I'm not?
If it's behind the nut, you'll notice no diff. Won't hurt to keep it parked there...
Nice fan setup for some hair blowing :-D
Creates the illusion of talent 😂
@@sixstringtv1 you sure became a talent and make very entertaining content. Thinking back in Dubai when you liked my suspenders so much, you also wanted to put some on :-D
Cool video. I'm trying to pick your accent. Sounds like German or Dutch, with a bit of time in Australia. Close?
German with a long history of watching British comedies and Jim Jefferies, so... yeah close
Mine just came in the mail, and I never used them, or thought I'd ever get them till I started doing djent rhythm in my music. I should've bought mine from aliexpress if I'd thought of it lmao. Paid 10$ for a pack of 2. Kms
Wild RATTATA appeared!
I look at it like this bro. The cleanest and most technical players, Jeff loomis, Stephen Taranto, Jason Richardson. None of those guys use fret wraps and if they don't I shouldn't if I want to ever get close to their level which I do. .. In my opinion they're a crutch and you should avoid them and instead develope better muting technique with your hands. I understand using them in the studio but for performing or practice id never use them. I put a piece of foam under my strings behind the nut to get rid of the behind the nut noise. I still gave the video a like I enjoy your opinionated views. Thanks as always
what about andy james?
Who asked you, though?
You're absolutely right, and based off this guy's mediocre playing and the fact he's obviously getting paid to promote the product, all the red flags are there.
To be honest if you use them to cancel unwanted ringing behind the nut it's not a clutch or a cheat, it's pretty much comparable to a noise gate.
Unwanted string noise is part of your technique yes, homever the ringing behind the nut is something you cannot mute by yourself, it's mostly noticeable on 7 string guitars and above, not so much on 6 string guitars.
Sure people use them as an "exploit" for tapping by placing it on the fretboard, but that's just one of the uses and it's not the main reason why people should use a fret wrap.
@@Trahzy One word. Snobbery.
0:57 Play on double speed for 80's arcade death melody.
That's an adaptation of the Trainer Battle intro from Pokemon Red/Green/Blue/Yellow, Junichi Masuda, 1995.
All the trainer battles have intros that follow similar formulas: ruclips.net/video/lLdcMTCFrfE/видео.html
do you have a link you bought yours from?
Sadly not, just enter fret wrap into AliExpress though
@@sixstringtv1 thanks. Found them. Going to buy a 5 pack. Costs less than a large McDonalds meal lol
@@Gornflyin Enjoy 'em!
I use one mainly for recording to mute any sympathetic vibrations after the nut
Thousands of great recordings have "sympathetic vibrations" and it never bothered me!
Will you reupload Yngwie video?
I won't, it's on KDHs channel
Haven't watched the video yet sorry. Reading the comments having a laugh. I thought you put the wrap on the strings over the nut. Not on the frets? I guess either way? I use the first fret so that would be annoying. But used to clean up the back end ever so slightly. Thought that's what they were for. Over the nut near the tuners not on the board. I guess different effects/technique. Ever use it for rhythm? Thought mostly leads for soloing was it's.main purpose.
Thanks sorry for multiple questions.
Lol the fans blowing his hair 🤣 you should always have that fan on too blow your hair...
I wish I could, feels quite nice depending on the season, but the mic would pick it up
I couldn't hear a HUGE difference, you're a good player to begin with and maybe because the wrap was still behind the nut. I bought one solely for the purpose of using it behind the nut. I've seen people use it below while tapping or just playing in general, and that's just asking for more bad habits down the line imo. They do look pretty sick on a guitar though, adds a bit of mystery lol
They've used them on solos in the studio for decades!
... or if you... hypothetically... suck at muting and just want to sound a bit better once in a while when practising something else than muting... maybe... please?
No one is going to hear me (hypothetically) play anyway, so why would anyone care: )
train your hand fingers and picking hand to mute strings but yeah behind nut i agree but good video man I have now subbed twice you tube keeps removing my subbs god bless keep playing your pretty good
We use socks
loved your video about Yngwie.
I'm glad you enjoyed it😌
@@sixstringtv1 Reupload it dude, it was a blast! 😂
@@John_Richards1488 It's on KDHs channel
What if you wanna use the first fret tho...
What did I say in the video 🤣
@@sixstringtv1 just put it behind the nut? Does it work the same though?
This might sound really lame, but to me without the fretwrap your playing sounds like has more feeling idk lol
i thought the guy's stevie t 😂
If you're using a fret wrap between the nut and the tuners you are an idiot. Or severely OCD. But using one on the first fret is amazing! It will advance your playing by tenfold! It will open up your playing!
One of biggest bullshit I ever heard was somebody claim that different materials dampening the string cuases "tone differences".
He said "foam behind the nut" sounds like shit and ruins the guitars sustain. YOU NEED A REAL COMMERCIALLY EXPENSIVE WRAP apparently.
xD TONE WRAP.
Anything works, but foam behind the nut doesnt solve the tapping/sweeping issue while recording, so you still need a Fretwrap 😉
do a video on your hair fan.
Will do
I use one of these with my bass and get soooooo much shit. “oH wHy PlAy A fIvE sTrInG iF yOuRe ToO bAd To MuTe PrOpErLy” like bro gtfoh
Don't be deterred by the snobs, it's in their DNA.
How about guitars with floyd rose and a locking nut?
Still important to use one *behind* the nut because of all that resonance. You just won't be able to slide it over the nut onto the fretboard very easily.
@@sixstringtv1 I thank ya for the information
Stfu lighting fingers 😄 good one
As a fellow shred asshole, I feel I have the right to call out our bullshit
Refuses to pay $16 for a fuzzy band yet is surrounded by gear 😂 idk, just thought that was a bit ironic lol
How so? All the gear I own was worth the money I spent on it, a vintage Strat isn't a sliver of fabric for $16
Honestly, whenever you move your chair back like that at the end of a video to point to your next videos, I wince.
One of these days you're gonna knock that guitar behind you off it's stand, man...
I look at the monitor in front of me whenever I do that, and its a very stable stand. I doubt it.
Fingers crossed
It's only to mute the strings he's not using, instead of using his picking hand to mute those strings, looks like something a beginner would do.
Or someone who just wants a "better mousetrap". Who wants to worry about muting with your picking hand??? The snobbery of guitarists never ceases to amaze me! Talk about anal retentive!
.....all this hair reminds me of Kiko Loureiro...
Kiko is an attractive man, I take that as a compliment
I don’t need to do nuffin
True even Malmsteen make some noise I will buy a fretwrap😊❤
no one tells me what to do, i will use a fret wrap while practicing if i like, bloody guitar nazis! xD
Yngwie never used or needed a fret wrapper ,it sounds like lunch.....
Are you Yngwie?
I thought so... just use one
But I'm playing black metal I need the diss0nance
nope don't need them
Fret wraps are unnecessary and they look like a scrunchie on your guitar. You should be able to play clean without one.
Let's see you play. I'm begging.
@@sixstringtv1 I’m going to have to agree with Kirk on this one. If you want to use a fret wrap that’s cool. To each their own.
@@sixstringtv1 Even if he couldn't play a single note it wouldn't change facts, friend. You can use whatever you want, but relying on this will neglect developing your left and right hand muting ability... which is what's required to not need one of these. Great playing, btw. 👍
@@monsterram6617 If you like SixStringTv’s playing, then obviously the fret wrap thing is working for him when it’s removed because his playing is pretty good - plus, he clearly said that it should not be used all the time for that precise reason. 😉😬
@@MashaT22 I dont see the logic here. Using a fretwrap, say on a recording, for a part you cant quite play well, is a hack. It's something to get you through a difficult moment. Using it to practice, however; may make you sound better in the short term, but will hurt you in the long run. His playing is pretty good without the wrap. He should practice more without it because any playing with a fretwrap is playing that neglects right and left hand muting. Yeah, he's pretty good. But that's besides the point. Using a fretwrap for most situations is a crutch and not helpful for the long term. It's not necessary if your muting is up to task.
pointless
I'd love to hear you play
Yes, his strat isn't pointy
Don't put that silly thing on your guitar. It's a $$ gimmick and wont do anything to help you train your fingers.
Do you have nothing to do?
You can never train your fingers to do what a fret wrap can do no matter how big of a snob you are!
its essentially just meant for lazy people unwilling to actually learn something properly.
No
