    Thanks!!! This happened to my wife's 2012 SRX. I did exactly as you suggested and it is fixed. The dealer wanted $900-1900. Thanks to your help I got the right module from Amazon for ~$175 and paid a auto shop to reprogram it for $100. Works perfect and saved me a ton. Much appreciated.

    Been going through this and will be ordering the module today. My wifes SRX started leaking and been dealing with a front leak. I decided to use strips of PPF to seal the roof. Wife does open the roof to air so sealing it was a great option. The PPF will keep any water out now.

    This has been the most helpful video. My momma's SRX had issues with the sunroof drain hose (kept popping out of the drain hole and dumping rainwater onto the passenger front floor board). We fixed that a yr ago and got everything dry inside, but never checked that rear area. The liftgate stopped opening a couple months ago so this makes perfect sense. THANK YOU. The dealer would have robbed my momz for something Cadillac knows is an issue. Woman in CA sued because Cadillac knew about the leaks damaging interiors and electronics. I think it became class action suit, but only for CA... Thx again

    • @Bashaarky
      @Bashaarky  3 года назад

      Thanks for your kind response, man. I'm glad I was able to be of help to you. Also, yeah I heard about that class action lawsuit. I know it wasn't the kind of victory us SRX owners wanted but at least her legal action made an impact in CA. Hopefully this gets more attention nationwide.

    I was having this issue prior to my teenage daughter and 2 youngest children getting rear ended at 45 mph. As angry as I was about the lift gate malfunction, I'm still thankful they were driving the Cadillac that day and not her car which was being repaired in the shop. This is a solid, safe car...They were hit so hard that it left dig marks in the highway. Thank God they were not injured!! I just wish Cadillac would step up and take responsibility for these drain tube issues. This is my 4th Cadillac, and I may never own one again if they can't back up what they're producing. For the money we pay for these nice vehicles, this is absolutely unacceptable. Thank you for your time making these tutorials, I know it takes dedication and a lot of time. Kudos!!

    • @Bashaarky
      @Bashaarky  3 года назад

      I'm glad your children where safe after that harsh collision. Also yes, I agree with you, Cadillac isn't owning up to their mistake. It seems that it's financially cheaper on them to pay a legal group to deflect any negligence on their end rather than repair every SRX with that issue (mostly all of them). It's gross practice, it surely discouraged me from buying another Cadillac.

  • @anthonyreaves6827

    • @Bashaarky
      @Bashaarky  3 года назад +1

      That's wonderful to hear. One less problem to deal with now. I believe there's a recall out now for the headlamps due to water intrusion. You should check it out before coming out of pocket to fix it, if you haven't already.

    you have done a great help to all Cadillac owners, and yes is not necessary for the sunroof leakage, even a little moister will damage , is a terrible place to install this module, heat and cold temperature in that compartment creates the problem, we Cadillac owners must put a claim to Cadillac to have a recall. not all people have the time nor the mechanical incline to repair their cars

    Thanks for this. Just popped the spare tire cover and found a pool of water covering the module. The male connections are corroded and rusted and some even broke off. I'm going to add some shims to lift the module mount off the base of the trunk floor. That is the only way I can think to keep it dry without drilling a drain hole down there. Thanks!

    Thanks dude! I read blogs on the Cadillac forum that describe extreme solutions from chopping holes in your door to as mild as tearing off the inside door covering to get at the release. I knew there had to be a simpler more economical way to get it open. Appreciate you man. Mine was weird, I got it open then pressed the close button and it closed and now works fine. I suspect the module is on the fritz and I did find water sitting directly under it. That said I’m keeping an eye on it because it will probably fail totally at some point. Maybe I should buy a replacement now before total failure. Good work though man, nicely done.

    This is an excellent video (along with the other video, Part 2).
    During the last few months, I have had exactly the same problem with my liftgate that you described in the video. The problem started immediately following an intense tropical storm. (The car was parked outside during the storm, not in a garage.)
    After watching these videos, I was able to open the liftgate from the inside of the car using the technique that you showed. Lo and behold, there were about 5-10 cups of water just sloshing around in the area underneath the spare tire, as well as in the small storage compartment on the right-hand side.
    I removed the control board from my car today, and it looked even worse than yours. I haven't ordered a new one yet to replace it, but now I can at least open and close the liftgate if I really need to (even though it's a pain in the ass).
    Thanks again for taking the time to make these videos!

      Glad you were able to open it, but yeah sounds like the previous owner never addressed the problem. Try opening up the module and checking to see if it has any corrosion on either side of the circuit board. Hopefully it could be salvaged. Also did you get any of the drain hoses replaced or cleaned since?

    Thanks, Mosley. It's 19 August, 2019 and I opened the floor of the 2014 SRX. The fuse on the 2014 is in the rear...15 AMP and it was good.
    The module did not seem to be under water....but the humidity was intense under the black storage box. It seems to me humidity is as bad a problem as water intrusion.
    I came to the same conclusion about a ZIP-Lock with these modifications: 1.) I drilled two small (1/8th ish) holes in the floor pan. These are as close to the rear as possible. I drained about a quart!
    I am also going to place "Damp Rid" in there. It seems no matter what...the drains are inadequate. There are "electronic grade conformal coatings" that should protect the circuit card. This module was replaced about 8 months ago so there should not be the corrosion B-Shark experienced. I am ordering a replacement on eBay...well under $100.00 and feel I saved myself $2500 worth of aggravation with the local dealer. I will dry out the existing module and advise if it can be resurrected. As B-Shark states...corrosion is another story...easy to replace. I will check this with oil changes.

    Sorry about that, got a little carried away. About getting to the point now. The only thing they did right in this whole situation was pulled the carpets out and let dry. The car was up and running after a month and half, according to the technician, he didn't realiy do anything but just let it dry. I got the car back last Friday and had couple rides with it. Very smooth and no warning lights or anything like that pop up whatsoever. The only obvious problem right now is the still clogged drain and molds in the trunk, where there's still 4 inches water sitting in. Exact location where you showed in the video. And this life gate problem. I don't know, should I get a 2nd opinion from another shop? This car was a gift from my brother and I treasure it very much.

    • @Bashaarky

      I would honestly suggest you get those 2 rear drain hoses unclogged. It's really not hard to do it if you're willing to spend some time on the weekend doing so. That is the source of your problem hands down.

      That's pretty clever in the event it does leak into the trunk again however I would push toward unclogging those rear drain hoses (it's easily accessible from behind the rear bumper quarter panel) so you don't have to deal with it again.

    Thank You so very kindly for posting this video. Because of your video , I saved myself a lot of time and money with getting the lift gate open and taking the module out prior to getting to the dealership. All the dealership had left to do was program the Module. I want to give you a big thank you again.
    It took me over a week to discover the exact source or the leak. It seems to be coming from the rear drain tube on the passenger side. The question of the hour is , what is the best and easiest way of getting to the drain tube? I've been very reactive with keeping the trunk area dry. Are you able to post a video of that repair? Again I so appreciate you for all of your help and input.

      Unfortunately the new module has to be programed by the dealership. Programming should take anywhere between a half hour to an hour. Meaning you'd pay for that duration of time. Shop around different GM dealerships for an idea on hourly labor pricing. Best of luck!

    I really couldn't get the concept that a clogged drain will caused a leak and the technician didn't even care to show me. But what fruating me the most was with the knowledge of know this vehicle is still leaking, with all the $1300 I paid. They didn't clean the drain or care to park it somewhere covered. It's been continually leaking for a month and half while car's in the dealership. And both the technician and advisor said" there's nothing to be damage in the car any more. It's all really all damaged." Unbelievable!!!

      Honestly, that's why I posted this video. I was frustrated my self when I spoke to Cadillac's service department. In short I would advise them of the problem and they would continue on to deny or push the blame away. Zero accountability on their behalf. It's truly disgraceful. On the bright side, I believe you may have a lawsuit against them from what I gathered in your comments. Your SRX was in better condition when you first arrived and the rest was a combination of neglect and predatory repair tactics. I would suggest you present your case to a lawyer and see if any legal action can be pursued.

    The reason my 2015 had the water there is because buzzards got on top of my car and chewed some of the seal around the panoramic sunroof which then allowed water to get in and stream down the channels the next time it rained. I have to get a new sunroof (about a $1000) because they don't sell just the seal around the sunroof. Also, in the meantime, my husband is going to drill a couple of small holes in the bottom (one on each side) to let the water drain out if it happens again. Only drill holes if you know what you are doing because you have to drill from underneath the bottom of the car to make sure that you miss the gasoline tank and other essential parts of the car.

Any way to trigger the assist so I can get into the back so I can get to the to the module replacement task. The hatch is heavy. All other videos show latch popped and seems to open easy.

      Hey Dakkia, so it turns out that the water has damaged the circuit board beyond any help. The connections were too corroded to be saved by the simple baking soda trick so I ended up buying a new lift gate control module. There are tons of them online but just remember once you buy it, you'll have to install it and take the car to any GM dealership to get it reprogrammed. It should only be an hour cost of labor to reprogram it. Did you find any water in the trunk?

      Yes, that's the bracket. If you shine a light at the bracket, dead center of it is a hole where you can see a piece of metal that is a bit shinier. That's the latch, push against it with a flat head screw driver and you should hear a click that'll indicate that the trunk unlatched.

      Yeah I did. I just haven't posted the video up for it. I'll do so shortly but the fix is simple. You can access the bottom of the drain hose and clear it with compressed air from outside the car. You'll find the end of the drain hose (green rubber piece) behind the rear bumper on the rear quarter panel side. All you need to do is remove the screws holding the bumper to the wheel well, then pry it some so you have access. The rest is using compressed air in a can with an attached rubber hose to clear the blockage. Pretty simple.
