    These templates were created by Chad Abrams. Thank's Chad for sending me a copy of them. In this video I test Chad's template on the Porter Cable dovetail jig model 4216. This is not a "how to" video for the 4216. I do however have videos for the set up and use of the 4216 jig on this channel. Card links will pop up at the end of this video to guide you to the "how to" videos. I hope this video inspires you to create. Great idea and great work Chad.
    Note: The process has been started to market this product. Hopefully it will be available for purchase before long.
    When templates becomes available Chad and I will release a video announcing their release. Sorry for the delay and we appreciate your patience

    I did this a couple of years ago with a cereal box - make your shapes to fit between the fingers draw your center line on cardboard and lumber, then use a paper punch over the center line on the cardboard. Line up the lines through the window of the paper punched hole - it is really easy - just like a gun site

    I’m sure those who’ve never messed with one of these jigs may think it’s a lot of work to get one of these jigs set up and it is , “but”! If you making a set of cabinets once this is done it’s just a matter of feeding the jig and router. Chances are if you are just making one drawer or a couple of joints time probably isn’t all that important anyway. Mikey

    Just wanted ask if you have done any 14° dovetail joinery with this jig? The manual for the jig says it is possible. I have searched the RUclips universe of the how to setup and do those with no luck. What are your thoughts on doing a video on this? The steeper angled dovetails look much better IMHO than the 7°ones. Thx for your instructions on these issues.

    • @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679
      @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hello Jerry. I have not done any using the 14°. I may try it some time and do a video on it. It will be awhile though. I have several personal projects going on right now (remodel) and we have the holiday season coming up too. I am currently shooting a video on halfblinds and a cutting board project for a customer. As soon as I get caught up some I may try it and see how it turns out.

    People, put down the calipers. The board does NOT have to be exactly centered. Just eyeball it. It'll be fine. As long as the jig is set up properly the pins and tails will fit together regardless of whether you start out exactly centered or not.

    • @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679
      @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679  6 месяцев назад

      True. They will fit together but if you want, and most people do, equal size pins and tails centered on the tail boards, then you have to center the board to the template of the jig. Failing to do this will also result in having to keep each joint with its mate. By centering the board to the template, the dovetail ends will work perfectly with any set of pins. If it is not centered and just placed in the jig and cut, they will only work one way. Which should be fine for anyone who does keep up with which tails go to which pins. If you dont keep up with each mating set and you get them out of order and your boards were not centered, the edges of the boards will not line up evenly. Hope that makes sense

    • @SKBond-hs7xb
      @SKBond-hs7xb 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679 That was my point. It only matters that they LOOK centered and symmetrically. Look being the key word here. In the end, all that matters is how they look. We look with our eyes not with calipers. That's why eyeballing is good enough for me. Cool templates for the jig by the way. Good point about keeping mating ends together.

    I’m no woodworking guru by any means but lately I just use my pocket knife with a sharp blade to mark with instead of a pencil. Call it luck but anything I cut or line up to is right on, knock on wood.

I only have the Dewalt 611 which only supports a 1/4” collet. I have another router in the table that is in a router lift, but I would rather just leave it in the table. Thanks again! 👍🏻

    • @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679
      @hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679  Год назад +2

      @Steve Siefken are you wanting to use the 1/4 inch bit with the half inch template? I don't know if that will work. You can do a test and see. I think, if it would work, you will probably have to use the bushings for the half inch bits in the router base. But to answer yes or no I can't. I have never tried it. I would say, cut you a couple pieces of scrap material and give it a try. Maybe try it with the half inch template and using the half inch bushing with the 1/4 inch bits and see. If that don't work then try the 1/4 inch guide bushings and run another test. Sorry I can't give you a definite answer on that. I have never tried it. I have 7 or 8 routers in my shop and have never had a reason to try it. Let me know what you find out. Maybe some day when I get caught up I might try it myself and shoot a video on it but I don't know when it will be that I can do it.
