PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo - Electro acoustic shootout

- I'm comparing my latest guitar purchase to some old favorites here at Disgracelands.
The guitars used are the Vintage VEC 501BGB, the PRS SE P20E Parlour guitar, and a Yamaha AC3R.
Sounds are run through Reaper, and some VST's to simulate a real world situation. All guitars have the same effects and settings other than compression threshold, which has been adjusted to the volume of each guitar.
Which is your favorite ?
Thanks for watching.
Cheers,
Robbo
This is the exact model my father had for a while. He loved the weight and the sounds he got out of it. A very nice guitar, indeed.
love your playing
Thanks so much, I hope you have a great day !
Thanks.I recently bought the Peacock Blue one from Peach.
Really lovely guitar , I haven't had time to plug it in yet.
Oh that's cool, I hope you enjoy it. I like mine more and more each time I play it, a great guitar at that sale price!
Does me old heart good to see you back again, sorry to hear about your job redundancy (been there a few times myself). Some cool guitars there Robbo and I look forward to hearing more from them. No matter what folk tell you, or what the spec sheet says it’s a personal thing and sometimes you just connect with an instrument and sometimes you don’t. The thing is to keep on playing. Be well Robbo : )
Hi Jamie, I hope you're well. You're totally right about connecting with an instrument, which is always a bit of a gamble these days what with most purchases being made online, not having touched the guitar beforehand. I know I'm safe going with anything from the PRS Se range though, as I appear to have become a bit of a fanboy of theirs in the last few years and know I can rely on the quality and feel.
Acoustic guitars are always my first passion though, so this was a fun video to make, as I don't often play several guitars back to back, and it's made me appreciate the differences and characters of each of them. Take care my friend, cheers from here, Robbo.
Very nice video. Good approach to the demo. I like and will try the tip about piezo volume at half. My PRS arrived two days ago so I am still experimenting.
Hi, thanks for the comment, it's much appreciated. I hope you enjoy the new guitar, I like mine more each time I play it, seems like a great deal at the sale price. Cheers, Robbo.
Great axes Rob. Nice listening to you again. Hope all is well, still sounding great. you pal John from SoCal USA.
It's wonderful to hear from you too John, I hope things are good with you my friend.
the yamaha ac3r kind of blew my mind when I played it, sounded really really good and played even better.
It does sound great, very piano like I think. Amazing sustain and clarity, and feels as solid as a rock. Very happy with it. I hope you're well, very best, Rob.
Great comparison Robbo! It’s surprising to hear how similar they all sound with just subtle differences. Now you’ve got me thinking about the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo.
Hi Dale, great to hear from you as always. Yeah, I think with a little bit of eq tweaking, I could probably make them even more similar, ideally I'd tame the top end of the Hollowbody a little, but felt it was best to leave that alone for this video. It's a really well made guitar, the Humbuckers sound great as well, I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed, (and it's very light, about 5 pounds, which is great for our old backs !). Very best to you, Rob.
Nice ! Great job 👏 😊
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
oh gosh, I hope you like this one (the prs)!! the ones I've played are excellent!!! Hope you're well friend!
Hi Staley, yeah mate, I love the guitar. I took it over to my Brother's a while ago and gave it a good workout, I'm a big fan of the SE's and this certainly doesn't disappoint.
Evening matey. Nice to see something costing LESS for a change ! Looks like us beer drinkers are gonna get ripped off - again.
Hey mate, hope all is well. I'm always a big fan of buying last year's model, especially with PRS who seem to make only tiny changes when upgrading guitars, lots of bargains to be had. I did hear that the duty on beer from pubs is going to be reduced, but doubt that cost saving will be passed on to us customers. I'll stick to my almost out of date red wines from the bargain bin. Cheers !
They all sounded Unique and Awesome.
I was wondering how You are. Kinda funny My 19 yr old son asked me if I heard from you lately . He remembered me watching You.
I will tell him I Just did. Thanks Brother Rob
Hey, great to hear from you, and say hi to the lad from me, I really appreciate the thought.
Yeah, I agree with you, all those guitars do the job very well, I sort of like aspects of them all in their own way. I'm very fortunate to have the choice. Very best to you mate, Rob
@@robbolandsvids Its Good to hear from You Rob. Have Fun and Thanks Bro
Guitars...food...heating...a roof over your head. That's the correct order. Oh, I forgot, beer comes after guitars!
All the best to you, Robbo!
My mistake, what was I thinking ? I can always sleep in the hard case the PRS came in :) Take care my friend, I hope all is good with you. Cheers.
Hey Robbo, I agree, all sound good and would do the job for you. For me the Yamaha was the best sounding but as you point out thats not the whole story. The new PRS sounded great considering what it was up against. I have a Parker nitefly that needs a expensive repair on the piezo. Part of me thinks I should get one of these instead.
PS being made redundant is bad times, hope things work out for the best.
Hey, great to hear from you, I hope all is well. I've always liked the Parker Fly series guitars, I'd love one at some point but yeah, I know they're quite specialised, so repairs and parts might be harder to come by than more familiar guitars.
I do agree, that Yamaha does sound very nice, but overall I was quite surprised at the similarities between them all, and with a bit of careful eq tweaking, I'm sure they could sound even closer. That PRS Hollowbody is a lovely guitar, as expected from them, hard to beat if you can get one at the discounted price.
I'm hoping to get my job back soon-ish, but am doing fine in the meantime, many thanks, Robbo.
Thanks for your useful video. Honestly if you closed your eyes and listened, you'd have to admit the PRS sounds like a $150 piezo acoustic. But maybe thats the compromise.
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, I totally agree, I think this sort of hybrid will always be a compromise, and definitely not for everyone. I will say though, as an electric guitar, it's a great piece of kit and makes a lot of sense at the sale price. Cheers, Rob.
That Yamaha was excellent, probably the best acoustic for the $
Definitely worth considering, especially if you're playing live. Acoustically, I'd like a bit more dynamic range, but it sounds bloody amazing, a ton of sustain, and lot of sound to play with.
@@robbolandsvids well I ended up with a PRS Piezo 😁
Oh cool, best of both worlds :)
Got my from Andertons for £799
Nice ! How are you finding it ?
