Today, my best friend passed away. He was well known for his Link cosplay; he had been battling cancer for years and the Lord took him home. I played this for him just before he passed; his journey in this life was over and I thought that his journey should end in a poetic fashion. His favorite game was, "Ocarina of Time".
Truly saddening. I hope the best for you and anyone involved. This world is more beautiful that it gets it’s credit for and your friend is in an amazing place. It’s great to see the game can make that big of an impact on a human life. I hope the best for your endeavors, partner.
I immediately started crying reading this. I am so sorry. What a beautiful friendship you had. He will always be looking out for you. Thank you for making his last moments the greatest and so fitting. I hope you’ll be able to heal someday. He’s on to a great adventure… until the day you meet again, take care.
May he rest in peace
Rest in Peace.
rest in peace.
You're the Hero that time will never remember.
Truly one of the saddest endings.
The gods will.
He was remembered, just not when he was around. Remember how when ganondorf re-appeared, the people of hyrule were praying for him to return to defeat him again, but he couldn't because he was sent back in time. And in the child timeline, it wasn't until after his time that he was known as a hero
@@thekingtoastamo5808 but then he wasnt even known for what he did it was for something else
@@otakuslayer5702 sure enough it could've been it, but the legacy of the HoT says he was a great hero, even in the Child Timeline so who knows. I know that Zelda may have known what he did, but idk who else could've known
@@thekingtoastamo5808 He died regretting that he couldn't do more to help and unable to pass down his legacy properly which made him the Hero's Shade in Twilight Princess who cannot pass on until he can able to pass down all he has known to his descendant to which he eventually did.
As a child, Iwas crying and thinking.." it's over? it's..actually over?" man, the nostalgia hits and hurts a lot, I love TloZ!!
I hope your child self found out about master quest

I totally understand and agree.
I feel your pain...
Then one day you find about Majora's Mask, and flipped out in the best way.
Through action, a man becomes a Hero
Through death, a Hero becomes a Legend
Through time, a Legend becomes a Myth
And by learning from the Myth, a man takes action

how can you love a place so much that youve never actually been. literally the best game ever created.
I know what you mean but also we've been in this world with our imagination in such an intense way, for a lot of us, since we were kids. Visiting every so often. It almost means more BC it's a world the dirt of this world/earth can't touch.
i remember being blown away when I played it for the first time. Pure magic. it will always have a special place in my heart.
Not the best game ever created. Good game good music.

25 years later, this game is still legendary. A true masterpiece, and among the greatest games Nintendo has ever created, Zelda or otherwise. Long live Ocarina of Time.
Not just among the greatest games Nintendo ever created, but among the greatest games ever created. It’s cliche to say, but it’s true
listening to the credits theme hits harder now as an adult than how it did as a kid.
you can really feel the emotion that this credits theme conveys to you.
I felt it when I was 6 years old (older siblings played the game, I watched). the Intro to this theme felt like it was conveying a musical message that "every end has a beginning". I felt sad the story ended, but also felt relieved by that intro into the theme before it plays zelda's lullaby.

I just finished the game this morning for the 1st time, the entire game was a work of art straight up made me cry for 1 hour, Koji Kondo you're a legend.
I finished it right now. My face is full of tears
When I finished, I stared at the screen for 5 minutes.

ONE HOUR OF CRYING HOLY!
yes back in the days (even now) I cried a lot after the end, I still can't get over with it
I’m 17 now. Same age as Link was at the end of this game. If OOT has one reason to resonate with me, it’s cause this game taught me that time MOVES VERY FAST, and you’ll get older real quick. And it gets really scary. But this game has helped me learn that. I remember 7 years ago vividly. Just like it flashed like it did in this game. That is a huge reason why this is among my favorite games of all time.
There will NEVER be a game like Ocarina of Time again
Correction: The feelings you experienced with it will never be quite the same with other games. Future titles were very much like OOT, some more than others, memory has a funny way of making things from long ago hold deeper value.
Idk OOT 3D is pretty similar to OOT 🤣

私はニンテンドーウルトラ64でこのゲームが大好きです。私は学校を卒業してから数か月後に初めてこのゲームをプレイしました。
The legend of Zelda series has taught me many things, like be brave and courageous. Care for others. And that time passes, people move, like a rivers flow, it never ends.
I was so sad when first saw the ending because I couldn't play Ocarina of time anymore and I had to find a new game to spend forever playing all the time

When this exact theme 5:11 plays at the ending of Tears of the Kingdom it freaking shocked me and made me cry like a freaking baby man… the nostalgia hit HARD
Well I mean it’s Zelda’s lullaby, it’s a main part of the series and that part was focused around zelda
This ending music just reminds me of how well this game broke your heart beautifully. It was a seven-layer cake of bittersweet heartbreak.
- Zelda: "Link, give the Ocarina to me." She puts her hand on his. Never has an N64 polygon NPC looked so deeply sad as she explains she must send Link back to regain his lost years as a child. And then, she plays those notes. And he's gone. If there was love there, it will never be.
- The glorious festival of all the game's NPC's with old rivalries budding into new friendships, but no Link to enjoy his victory.
- The Six Sages looking down on the festival in spirit form. They did it, they won. They're also most likely dead in spirit form. Bittersweet.
- The credits scene landscapes reminding you just how breathtaking every environment truly is
- Child Link going back to the Temple of Time and, what's this...Navi? No, why would you leave me now? Navi is gone forever as she escapes via the high window
- Child Link still goes and puts back the Master Sword forever sealing his fate as a child, but he sure walks away like a boss while the church bells ring. That's a lump and a half in your throat right there
- Post-Post-credits scene of Child Link first entering the castle garden and seeing Zelda. Their eyes meet. Time stops. You remember that moment from your early playthrough. The final Nintendo stamp shows up, and that godforsaken Zelda's Lullaby plays one last time, cutting up all sorts of onions in its trail. Then it stops and you are left with nothing but silence and silhouette.
I always think about both sides of the story while listening to the first two parts of this credit sequence. To me, first as Zelda's Lullaby plays it's a moment to take in all the all the weight of the journey, how what started as a childish plan to prevent chaos turned into 7 years of turmoil that Link and Zelda would have to bear witness to. Even though the plan actually succeeded and evil was vanquished, the cost comes to Link who has lost his innocence and childhood now trapped in a world of peace that he likely feels separate from. Navi is the only person who truely shared Link's experience, and after she leaves Link no doubt feels completely alone. I think this ties in beautifully with the themes and story of Majora's Mask too.
On the flip side, the bonfire takes place in the future time after Ganon has been defeated. Zelda has likely spread the word of Gandorf's demise and so everyone has gathered to tell the tale of the hero Link. I think of the music as as this Legend being recounted by all the people of Hyrule. Link, a boy from the forest , protector of the Hyrule citizens, brother to all Gorons, love of the Zora princess, Malon's knight in shining armor, a warrior worthy of the Gerudo, truely, the Hero of Time.
This ending hit so hard, and when I first beat the game when I was little I don't think I understood but I know I felt it. I mean, the feeling you get of great emotional depth and sorrow with Majora's Mask is all here in this game. Majora's Mask is pretty much the story of Link just learning to cope with all of the events in Ocarina of Time. I really do believe that both games deserve to be considered masterpieces of their time, I would actually love a more in depth retelling of both their stories. All of the background and subtext seems so beautifully crafted to me now, and I think there will never be a Zelda game that can hit the same mark as they did so perfectly.
@@rhamieljoseph9775 love your narrative here. Great perspective. One thing about the ending I always questioned though was the idea that Link likely feels seperate from the future timeline because he lost those 7 years. I feel like Link had no say in that and Zelda decided it for him. In the game, you spend much more time as adult link than child link. And you see the cause and effect of Ganondorf taking advantage of you opening the temple of time before that 7 year warp, so you understand why all this happened, you grow into your new role as a man and save the day. Maybe by then you feel you do belong in that world, but it got stripped from you by someone who decided otherwise. Link should have been able to make that choice himself.
The saddest part was seeing Mido and King Zora mourning the loss of their loved ones Saria and Ruto while everyone was partying.
@@randomdude4816 was that what that moment there was about w the two of them just sitting together? I never got that until now, thank you.

5:48 is hands down the best part of this song
Goodbye Navi
those bells made my friends and i think that link and zelda were getting married
The powerfull showcase of master sword
This theme also appears in the Starfox 64 credits. It hits hard, right on the feels.
Idk I prefer the intro, it in a few seconds sets the tone for the whole song and the ending. It's a victorious version of the main score but it's tinged in sadness, hopeful yet heartbroken. Then the dialogue hits and you realize that while you've won, link has lost, everything. Everyone who knew who he was who knew he saved them is gone (baring the close relatives of the sages lost).
The score tells a recap of the whole story in a brief few seconds. And that's why I think it's amazing.
Another song that does this well is,
"For the dark soul"
It's a song that shows you the theme of the game it's presented in in the first few seconds of the song then changes it before circling back.
While these songs contrast (one being about moving on even after losing everything and making a life for yourself even after loss and the other being about maddening cycles)
They both capture their stories theme well, these composers are geniuses and I don't think they get enough credit for how well they make scores in come games.
the bells at 5:55 really cracked my feelings, it really felt like it was the last i'd see of such a corageous boy, but in fact, it wasn't the last i'd see ;)
This is the part where you sit there and cry about how you’ll never get to experience this game for the first time again

No ending makes shed tears like this
Just completed this game again for the first time in a while. I forgot how emotional this song was.
4:42 this part aways reminds you that " YOU DID IT. YOU BROUGHT PEACE TO HYRULE YOU ARE THE LEGEND!!!! Life goes on!"
Not much media makes me cry, movies, games, etc, but music will always put me in a vulnerable spot. This game gave me my passion for games, music, and art. For that, I truly thank all of the people who made this game happen. I wouldn’t be the young man I am today if it wasn’t for this game.
I was 9 years old when this game came out, just two years younger than Young Link. I had previously played A Link to the Past before this came out, it felt like the grandest adventure ever and to play as a young boy like myself had me hooked. This game does bring back happy memories of being a kid.
In fact, young Link is 9 years old, which is the same age you were when the game came out.

I think this is the most nostalgic song from all gaming history 😔❤️
The beginning is my favorite part. Just Zelda’s Lullaby. Simple and sweet.
Its over. But you still live in me. I feel the nostalgia, the memories. The sadness, the happiness, the pain, the joy, the knowing and not knowing, the beginning to the end. The strength and weaknesses this song can bring out moving through its melody and beats. I feel a part of my childhood has died but yet I can remember a lot about my childhood and brother before his time passed. It invokes a large amount of feelings. Euphoria mixed with sadness, a feeling i cannot find a word to describe, where the feelings are beautifully painful and have a swell blending to make me be happy for the time we spent together but sad we cannot replay this and visit eachother anymore.

Hello, Link, the Hero of Time! I know! That is so sad that you had to say bye to Zelda and then Navi... When I played the game and watched the ending I bawled my eyes out!
When i finished Ocarina of time I just sat their stunned thinking "...wow.. I did It..." I nearly cried. This music brings back tears. The legend of zelda will always be close to my heart.

Yeah this one track is so beautiful and yet so sad cause you realize for the first time that the great adventure that you lived through is actually ending here.
I was pretty much depressed from the fact that my beloved video game actually ends at some point.
Replaying a Zelda game is still a good experience but it will never be the same as when you played it for the first time.
Then Majoras Mask came out and i was a happy little boy again, hehe.
And some time later i found out there are more video game franchises which are also great in their own way.
A couple days ago, I finally beat Ocarina of Time 3d for the 3ds. It may not seem that important to some people but to me it's extremely special because of the way the universe always has some thematic similarities. I started to play it 6-8 years ago and I remember I went to florida while playing it and got as far as the water temple. The last memory of it being whenever I was facing against dark link in the water temple. I remember winning and then losing to the boss. I never got past that as I had lost my 3ds in disney world. Recently, I had the opportunity to start over again. To finally finish the quest that I couldn't complete as a child, and when I saw the credits roll I started to cry. I love this game man...
just completed this game, i understand why people love it
Played the game in early 2000s on the N64. Was 7 years old at the time and I was stuck in Dodongo's Cavern for weeks and weeks. I thought I might have missed something and I need a new save file. Kept replaying the game many times and get as many heart pieces as I could. I got my hearts to 7 which is equivalent to my age at the time. Went to biggoron and he said the sword gonna take 7 years to finish. My english was bad back then since it is not my first language. I thought biggoron was telling me that I am 7 years old and I need to grow up first.
Couple years later, N64 broke and I never could continue playing the game. Years later, 3DS was announced and OOT 3D was announced few months after. I never felt that excited for a game before and knowing my childhood game coming to a handheld in better graphics was mind blowing to me.
The year 2011, I am now 13 years old and finally ready to replay the game. I reached my nightmare, Dodongo's Cavern. With my better english language, I can now understand any text I read in the game. I saw a stone tablet on dodongo's cavern that told me to drop bombs into the eyes. I have finally progressed further than the 7 years old self. I became adult link finally after years and it felt like I grew along with link. I got all medallions, went to ganondorf, and I have finally beaten the villian that I kept seeing in zelda's window.
This music played and I never felt the same in any other game I played so far. Zelda OOT might be called overrated, but was truly a masterpiece back then. Thank you for all the good memories

That last bit when Zelda's Lullaby plays with the ocarina gets me evey time, so powerful. As I get older, this game has grown to be my favorite, it's a really emotional experience that gets even stronger as time goes on and I started seeing the passage of time as not just a fun change of pace of the game, but a much deeper reflexion of growing up and moving on, yet always remembering being a kid and playing this game for the first time. What a masterpiece.
I remember back when I got this game with my 3ds on Christmas eve and I didn’t even want to play it at all because i had super smash bros. At the end of another heartful journey. It has been a blessing to be born and grow up exactly when I have. 🎉 thank you everyone for loving the series. For all the blood sweat and tears poured into every game. ❤❤❤❤
I remember being a kid, and thinking about link becoming an adult & having to face the harsh realities of life, and how hard it must have been for him as a character.
Now here I am, 20 years later, still struggling to figure things out. I don't think any of us ever feel like we are truly in control, and if we do we are lying to ourselves.
It made me realize that I'm still a kid inside, as if I pulled the master sword out of the pedestal & warped forward in time. Just like link did.
This is deep... I hope others will also scroll this far down, because this is the essence of Ocarina of Time for me too. That last sentence honestly made me tear up a little because it's so accurate.

While I don’t think it’s the best game ever made, nor the best in its series or style, this game made you care about characters in more ways than any other at the time. This song encapsulates the feel and love I have for Oot, and this game deserves to be up there with the best games ever made, even if it isn’t.
It is incredible how a game in which I lasted playing a month made me have so much affection for him, that when I hear this I break, as if I were link himself, a "work of art" is little for this wonderful creation.

Each of the most beloved Zelda stories have a major element of tragedy in them.
In Link's Awakening, the world you explored and came to cherish was revealed to only be a dream of the Wind Fish.
In Twilight Princess, you have to say goodbye to Midna once the curse Zant put upon her is broken and she must return to her Twilight Realm.
In Wind Waker, Link, Tetra, and the King have to let go of Hyrule as it is swallowed up in an all-consuming flood to stop Ganondorf from claiming it for himself with the Triforce.
And in Ocarina of Time, your heroic actions as the Hero of Time will be only be known in the adult timeline. Link goes back to being a child and as a hylian loses his fairy companion Navi with the completion of her task.
Chills every time I listen.
A very overlooked masterpiece. I think only cause it’s at the credits and it’s mashes themes throughout the game, but there are still many original pieces in here
When I finished, I was just like, "Navi! Don't leave me here! NAVI!". I'm guessing Link feels that way too. Goodbye, old friend.
The bestest game from legend of Zelda saga. ✨❤️
