Borg cubes are three kilometers on a side and have the mass of thousands of starships. At Wolf 359 and sector 001 we saw them one shot starships and stand up to a fleet's worth of fine. Yet in games they have the firepower of one or two starships and the durability of soap bubbles. I blame it on programmer bias.

    • @kevin9218

Agreed. Also the Ori technologically should outclass the Borg easily. Consider the age of the civilizations in question, the fact that the Ori have intergalactic travel capabilities, not to mention space magic. Their ships were literally invincible against all weapons thrown at them except those of other extremely old, intergalactic civilizations like the ancients and the Asgard. The Borg may be the biggest kid on the block in Star Trek, but they're just outclassed by the Ori.
I'd like to see a goa'ould versus Borg fleet battle though. I'd guess the Borg would win, unless the Jaffa could pull off a massive boarding action and fight the Borg hand to hand, staff weapons and zats would be useless after the first few shots, but a staff weapon is still a staff without the energy blasts.

    • @anticarrrot

@@kevin9218 The Ori themselves should outclass the Borg yes, but that might not hold true for the tools they give to their slaves. I'd expect they take a goa'uld approach of handing out only enough to do the task, and nothing more. That being a case a standard Ori ship should be able to take on known threats, but should struggle against something like the Borg, who are supposed to be extremely good at technological loophole abuse.
Sure the Ori weapon should cut right though the cube like it isn't there, but it's a narrow beam, and there is a lot of material to destroy, and the Borg are absurdly good at damage control. If Borg transporters can find a way through the Ori shields, then it's all over for the Ori's human crew, and any priors on board would probably have trouble protecting everywhere, and would likely blow up the ship to deny it to the enemy.

      Ori ships aren't small either.

    • @kevin9218
      @kevin9218 3 месяца назад +3

wraith hive ships are also very massive, but it only takes a few hits from Asgard plasma beams to blow them up. Ori shields can withstand a few hits, so assuming that Ori weapons are on par with their shields: Ori beam weapons are roughly equivalent in power to Asgard beam weapons, but slower firing, possible higher damage per shot since it has a longer duration. So, if the Asgard beams can destroy something the size of a hive in a handful of shots, the Borg's sheer mass won't afford them that much of an advantage. They would at the very least poke a hole straight through the cube with each shot. And, if they shoot for the center of mass, they'll hit the vinculum, which is the only real vital spot on a Borg ship, according to Voyager at least.

@@kevin9218 True enough. My main beef with the way Cubes are portrayed in games is they tend to have no firepower at all. One of these things is supposed to be a major threat to a whole fleet, and that isn’t the case when a single Sovereign can take down a ship faster than a cube. The only way it makes sense is if the Borg are hugely inferior technologically, and they aren’t supposed to be.

So it depends then which weapons the Ori use 1st, their small point defence stuff or the main gun (both are the same tech, different scale, adapting to 1 adapts to the other). The smaller ones admittedly were 1 shotting Ha'taks so they are no joke.
Also depends if the Ori's shields are up when 1st encountered, the Borg will board them before even bothering to send their usual "resistance is futile" message.

VIEWER REQUEST: Ori vs Species 8472.
Move over Species 8472, the Ori is here to kick your ass lol. I'm glad to see another Ori vs Borg episode. I think I stated that even with more than one Borg ship the Ori would still survive. I don't think the Borg would adapt to the Ori's beam weapon unless they were able to assimilate a Prior.
Interesting that it had a tough time with a tactical cube. However you're right they were made to handle species like the Ori. I'm surprised the Borg didn't send a couple of those to assimilate Earth. MAYBE over time the entire fleet would have been able to take out both cubes but they would have sustained heavy losses.
My mouth dropped when you were able to quickly wipe the floor with the Ori using the 29th Century Borg cube. Holy hell that was impressive to say the least.
I remember that one episode in season 10 of SG-1 where Samantha got pulled into an alternate reality by an alternate Sam Carter while that one was doing an experiment and the alt Sam died as a result of it. In that reality Major Lorne was in command of SG-1 instead of Cam (he got dumped by the Air Force hard). General Landry was President of the US and George Hammond was still in command of the SGC. In that reality they had never discovered Atlantis as they didn't have an International Committee like in the prime reality. They forced the prime Sam Carter to help them develop a measure against an Ori fleet that was heading for Earth to annihilate it. Oh they also had to make the Stargate program public (don't remember why) and it caused bad things to happen across the planet.
I think our Sam Carter was gone for a few weeks. Anyways with the help of Merlin's tech our Sam Carter and their Dr Lee were able to completely cloak the entire planet and was 100% Ori proof. Then of course that Earth had found said Merlin's tech but wasn't sure what it was and put it in storage. Oh and can't forget in that reality their Sam Carter and Rodney McKay were married for a brief time. They also brought in Rodney to take over Sam's position there at Stargate Command and was able to return to our reality.

The Borg would have a number of things to adapt to. Firstly, I doubt they could lock on to the Ori Shields with their tractor beams. Secondly, the weapons of the Ori are so powerful that they'd overwhelm the Borg ships in seconds. Thirdly, how would the Borg adapt to the telekinesis of the Prior running the ship? They can't beam through the shields and even if they did, the Prior would stop them in their tracks.

The idea in Stargate is, I think, that their ships are actually quite bare minimum tech wise and primarily act as a focus and possibly amplifier for the Ori's power. Though it's important to note that this was tech that was considered "bare minimum" by an offshoot of the Ancients, who are arguably the most technologically advanced species in the known Universe and created and contained microscopic universes to draw energy from as a portable power source. So their idea of "bare minimum" is still going to be pretty impressive. But the idea was that they wanted to keep their followers as reliant on them as possible, so the ships were specifically designed to be built and operated by what were essentially peasants who largely just understood that if you pressed this button the Gods would smite the non believers with divine wrath.

Makes you wonder what would happen if a tactical cube grabbed this thing in a tractor beam and pointed the business and elsewhere so that the Ori couldn’t shoot at the cube and then applied their energy dampen beam to bleed energy off of it.
If it’s really is powered by an Arcturus reactor …. The Borg would need to suck a lot of juice out of it to make the shields drop, but the amount of power that the board could siphon off of it and then throw back into their own weapon. Systems would also theoretically be unlimited.
Obviously, we know that or eye shields can be penetrated by the Asgard beam weapon ….. meaning that it can be done.
It’s just a matter of the Borg adapting and making use of the tens of thousands of races worth of knowledge that they have in order to find a way to pierce that shield. They do drones on board or beaming technology off or scanning the ark tourist reactor, and figuring out how it works, would make the collective ridiculously powerful.

@@Matt-yg8ub It would be disastrous not just for the Federation but the entire Laniakea Galactic Supercluster since the Borg trans-warp drive is capable of reaching other galaxies with the right and more powerful as well as limitless energy source. So it's safe to say they could expand and assimilate all other species from different galaxies in a short time, growing their armies and armada making them an unstoppable force.
Star Trek energy Shields are way better than Stargate since they have the technology and capability to change frequencies and resonance making them more adaptive and modular depending on situations Borgs also have that capability, if not only for the Federation finding a solution to keep their weapons harmonized with the Borg Shields to penetrate their Cubes. But Asgarg on the other hand, shields may not be as modular and adaptive to change Frequencies, Resonance, and Magnitude, but they are strong and durable and could take much strain and damage unlike Star Trek shielding tech. With the Borg having to get their hand on Ori, Ancient, and Asgard technologies eventually, then u could say they will be the most ridiculous faction in Sci-Fi Television ever.

The Ori ship weapons and shields are far more advanced than 29th century Federation or Borg tech. Literally millions of years more advanced. They had the 'knowledge of the universe' and millions of years of first hand knowledge dealing with energy weapons and shields. It took the combined millenias old technology from two civilizations to match them, the Asgard and the Ancients/Lanteans.
The 29th century Borg cube must have stumbled on an equally advanced civilization somewhere, perhaps one in transition to a higher plane themselves and leaving everything material behind, or perhaps even extinct or in decline due to disease or some catastrophe.

I might even go as far as to say the 10th cube but at that point the Borg would know how to deal with the Ori and would prevail.
The Ori seek domination and power gained from the adoration of their billions of followers …. Which means they need lots and lots of followers.
The Borg have no such desire, they seek biological and technological distinctiveness, and they do not expand like a cancer, consuming everything in their path they selectively choose what to pursue and what not to pursue…. And when.
The Borg encountered the United Federation of planets and instead instead of sending 1000 cubes and wiping them from the universe, taking all of their biological technological distinctiveness as of that moment, the Borg sought to farm the federation for technology . They poked at them for the next 20 years, prodding them and forcing them to innovate and develop new technologies and strategies to deal with the provocations.
The Borg could have eliminated the Federation at any moment, rampage through their territory and subjugated them all, but they did not because that was not in the interest of the collective.

Let’s be perfectly honest here, the Borg are vastly technologically superior and possess a multitude of sensor systems to be able to reach that same conclusion, a whole lot faster.
The Borg would eventually find a way to neutralize the prior.

The ori wont recognise the threat, will refuse to press the advantage and persue a strategy that all but encourages the borg to adapt, meanwhile the borg will ignore their owns strengths and sacrifice as many resources as possible in an attempt to slow the ori advance, then once the imediate threat has passed, proceed to ignor the ori and do nothing to counter them 🤔

@@Tonydjjokerit it wasn't that Species 8472's tech was biological that made it an issue for the Borg (they'd assimilated biology based tech before), it was that it was so massively foriegn to them and aggressive in its own defense making it hard to analyse, likely given time they'd have adapted to it in the same way Voyager did, they just hadn't gotten around to trying that approach yet (which made sense as dispite them having access to all the same knowledge Voyager had access to, they had a different goal, assimilation rather than annihilation).
So in this case while the cube likely would be destroyed fairly rapidly, the planet killer would have been boarded by dozens if not hundreds of drones by that point, all of which would be trying to assimilate it and might eventually manage to. A lack of shield tech is a major downfall when fighting the Borg, their 1st action is always a boarding action when encountering something new.
Oh and for reference sake, its not that the Borg couldn't adapt to the weapons of species 8472, they likely could (or already had), they simply couldn't repel firepower at that level, the power difference was just too large, or as Akbar would put it "we can't repel firepower of that magnitude". Not saying the borg could beat them, just saying its not black and white, we only ever see the surface of what the Borg are capable of. Remember they only ever send a single ship here and there, but their fleet numbers in the litteral millions, their species in the trillions. I hold to a theory that the borg never do full on attacks for a reason, they want people to resist, to adapt, to improve, as it makes them more worthy of been assimilated, they only ever overrun a species when it finally reaches the end of its ability to adapt. Resistance is not futile, its the entire point, resist and keep resisting until you can't anymore, only then will they destroy you.

Humans weren’t particularly biologically distinctive, they weren’t particularly good for much as far as the collective was concerned….. but the federation was a large repository of technology from a wide variety of sources, all being being used together.
Rather than go conquer the federation and take their tech, the Borg assimilated one of their ships took all their tech and then poked them occasionally, so they would make more tech for the board to come back and assimilate.
