The chromatic abberasions make for a very "dreamy" effect. It may not be my everyday lens, but sure does create a beautiful look. Thank you for inspiring.
I really like this sometimes strong bokeh in the background. It also seems as if the lens tends to distort the green colors, which I also really like. It paints a very surreal picture that could come from a dream or fantasy. All in all, a fascinating project.
You did a nice job filming this, your video is captivating to watch. As for the lens - nothing special, typical result for uncoated single-element lens. It's not bad, but as good as it could be. Ok for b&w, works well with woman portraits, adds smoothness to the skin. If you're into DIY and have focusing/aperture parts try using magnifier lenses from stationery sections of supermarkets. Smaller ones usually work best. I've tried dozens of them so I immediately recognized that character in your footage. In the same stationery/kid section you could also find tiny hole punchers in various shapes like heart, umbrella, cat. These are great for making creative apertures. Heart shaped bokeh is my favourite thing.
Nice project. I had done something similar years ago to mount a vintage lens on a 4x5" view camera to shoot film. I'm wondering how B&W video might look since it is likely this lens was used for B&W photography.
@@Patrick-star-jz when you see it a thousand times it’s not creative, it’s boring and cringe. But yeah you can make uncreative, boring cringe comments if you want.
About 20 years ago I've made a short story about a magical garden labirynth. If I'd make a short film, based on it - this lens would be flawless choice. Looks so juicy...
I have the lens from a Comet Benzini lying around and I do really want to have it on my Canon EOS M50. It's a fixed aperture, f11, lens. I have, with good result tried the lens from a Soviet START using a special adapter.
thank you for sharing this - I'm definitely going to try with an old Pionyr camera I have. Question: what is the music at the very start of the video, it's fantastic?
The chromatic aberrations have a very cool purple and blue instead of the usual ugly magenta-green. Is it the lens design? (focal length being a function of the wavelength) Or is it your color grading? Is it common to have this cool chroma? Why all my lenses have the ugly magenta-green ahah
Can you upgrade lens system of the "paper shoot" digital camera and make it adapat somehow c mount lenses or other small lenses to take better photos ....also i always wanted to see the c mount lenses on a smartphone hope you can make something like that as you have the equipments and knowledge of doing it ...i searched yt ..and couldn't find a video similar
Some of these look like pictures from my dad's old Zenith camera. I took its helios 44m-4 lens and trying to use it on a sony a6000 with some limited success...
I have really mixed feelings about that footage. It has dreamy look with tons of abberrations, but overall it's vintage look is just soggy. It is interesting but i dont think i'd use it in any project
@@MathieuStern thank you so much and keep up with the great video. I follow a lot of photography channels but your is by far the most interesting and editing is great and you value your viewer's time.

Totally agree!
When it's sharp, it's really sharp and when it's not, it's just lovely and dreamy! Very surprised and impressed!
Even dreamier in black & white, I'll bet. The "flaws" become angelic texture out of a classic movie.
good point ! I need to test this out
That CA is absolutely wild on the background. Just a beautiful image all round
Have to love old lenses. A great find.

"Made in France like me". 😂 Hilarious editing! 👍 Looks like a bargain lens for one Euro. Nice find.
It really is!
Cool build and great results! You could use SUGRU instead of fun tac for a more permanent adhesive next time.

The footage remind those mid 70s to early 80s Movies color. This will be give great opportunities to make more relaxing footage.
I need this lens. Its perfect. Everything feels so real. I cant describe it.
Another incredible mod! The images looked dreamy, from another time. Beautiful!
I love your creative experimentation. "And be sure to wear flowers in your hair". Greetings to your beautiful model.
I didn't think it would be worth the time and effort to get this working, but curiosity drew me in. I was SO wrong. Pure magic.

Thats so so cool, I have a helios 44 on my fx3 and i love the look. I love the idea of giving another life to vintage lenses.
I love sticky tack! I'm surprised more people don't use it.
I love bakelite cameras, great video, thanks.
It makes surprisingly usable picture, as for a menisc lens.
Awesome!
Merci la patafix ! Super résultat, plus propre que ce que j'imaginais. C'est moelleux mais pas trop !
Trop beau tout ca!
Damn, that color correction along with the lens was magical...
Very nice. I'm going to try using old medium format triplets through a Kipon focal reducer on my Sigma fp.

Absolutely love how dreamy this looks, especially wide open! Curious how infrared would look through this 👀

Great video.👍
I have a Soviet Russia-version of that type of camera...
Gonna make it a project. GG

I prefer the look of this lens more than Sirui Snipers
fantastic!
Glad you think so!
Je reconnais le musée d'art et d'histoire de Meudon haha
Bien vu !
Do you think it would also be good (interesting) for photography or would it be just terrible?
it would be great if you are looking for that dreamy look for photo, like for portrait photo or wedding photo.

Also lol at unknkown to me camera with a Helios lens)
I’m exhausted from seeing everything in sharp detail. It’s all too much.
The option to shoot hypersharp is relatively recent. The option to shoot soft with undercorrected lenses has always been available.
Funny how everyone seems to use Sony for those playful experiments
Yeah, after paying $3900 for a Sony body, only have enough money for a 1 euro lens. 😆
1950? That's a 50 year old lens!
because we are in 2000 of course
