- 4 stroke outboard, this one was manufactured in 2021. Pushed my 14 foot Duracraft boat 5.5 mph today. Last week I got it up to 6.8 mph going downstream with the wind at my back. Engine and gear oil are to be changed every 100 hours.

Thanks for the thorough review of that particular outboard motor. It was really helpful.
Mark from Maryland
You are most welcome.
Thank you for the tips about how to start the engine. I new zero about that, and now it looks very simple how to manage the engine. great! kind regards
Thank you for watching
That's incredible. I just ordered a 30 Suzuki and was worried about speed on my 16-ft V Hull. Great vid 👍
Thanks. I used to have a small Suzuki outboard, it ran perfectly for me, sounded like my motorcycle, very distinctive.
Love my little 2.5 Merc, got it on a 12’ job boat and she pushes it beautifully!
Glad you like it
@@becausearkansas2491 hey what do you set your trim on ? i have this same boat on a 10 ft jon
@@johnmcneely6967 can u set the trim on the 2.5 i dont think u can i have one and cant seem to find out how
@@carlitomadethatbeat yourt right
Thank you 😎 Very informative
You are most welcome
Out Boards Over Priced . Like your post !
Thanks. They are pricey indeed.
Clowns are very expensive right clown show
Nice little setup you got there.

Thank you, won't be too long before it's time to get the boat wet again.
I've had mine for about 5 years now. It on a 16ft jon. It's not a speedy boat but it gets me to the fish. The gas tank has a seam that failed me this year. 150$ for a new tank. I might be wrong but I think it split because I'd keep the vacuum knob closed when not in use and pressure build up over time split the seam. I just leave it open now and cover with a tarp when not using.
Getting to the fish is what my boating is about. Glad you were able to fix the fail.
Nice overall review of how this motor performs.
Thank you
great video... i just picked up 2006 4stroke 2.5 Mercury today from FB Market place for $400 :) good condition
Thanks, sounds like a good deal for sure.
I bought a 2024 brand new one from bass pro shop on sale for $760 after tax I looked for used ones but they were to expensive
That's a nice sale for sure
Only issue I see with starting like that is it’s not good to hit half your throttle range on immediate start up.
Harder on the nearly still dry impeller and much harder on a motor that hasn’t circulated its own oil yet.
Nice set up bro
Thanks, I have to give the throttle a lot of twist before it comes up off idle. The power band is all in the final quarter turn. I'm sure that could be adjusted, it sits that way for now though.
@@becausearkansas2491 oh you’re saying that’s not too high of a throttle for starting? Might be fine, just seemed like starting a car and then immediately flooring it in neutral. Not ideal but maybe it just sounds louder than it’s running
I have a 2004 2.5 two stroke Mercury (made by Tohatsu) and was wondering if switching up to a 4 stroke would be much nicer. Your video answered my question - Good video!
Thank you.
Wayne! Anyways did you regret the lack of power from the 4 stroke or was the simplicity and quiet running worth the swap?
@@74nova36 I haven't switched up to a 4 stroke... yet.
Nice idle
Thanks
Thanks for the video. I just bought a used Mercury 2.5 four stroke outboard but cannot seem to find out the year of it, online. I've got the model, serial #, etc. Would like to find out the info on it and find a good online store to buy the right parts for it when it comes time (spark plug, impeller, carb kit, etc). Thoughts? Thanks!
My thought would be to call Mercury, give the serial number and ask if it's still under warranty. They should be able to tell you the date of manufacturer. Maybe a previous owner purchased a transferable extended warranty however unlikely, but you can most likely get part numbers from them so you can order parts from a local dealership. Use those oem part numbers for your online searches to buy cheaper aftermarket ones. My thoughts.
This is a very helpful video thanks! When you say the fuel tank lasts for about an hour, is that at close to top speed or at a more moderate pace? I'm just trying to get a feel for its range.
That is with the throttle opened up all the way going full speed ahead.
thanks for the quick response. That's impressive fuel consumption.
Fought for 2 days with the 3.5 horsepower Tohatsu version before i got it running. Turns out it got either overfilled at one point, or it hates being stored upright on a stand
When I had a 2.5 Suzuki, I stored it on a stand. The Mercury I store laying on its side.
What would the top speed be for that 2.5 on a flat bottom jonboat?
It would depend on the length and width of the jon. The faster it has pushed my boat so far has been 6.5 mph. My boat is 14' and really wide. I would say 14 foot jon 36 inches wide maybe slightly faster because it should be lighter. If the jon is 12 foot or 10 foot long instead of 14 you would gain more speed. I would not expect more than 8 mph on a 12 foot boat though. A 14 foot by 48 inch jon would be slower than mine, if loaded the same it would be heavier. I hear the old steam driven paddle wheel boats only made 5mph. It's a small motor for leisurely rides absorbing all the scenery.
@@becausearkansas2491 thanks for the info. I have a 1436 and this motor came with it. Sounds about like all I need... for now :)
Running good let's go fishing😊
Always a good idea.
How much are they $ , and how much does it weigh ? Thank you .
About $1,000 and 40lbs.
Is that a plastic or a metal prop?
Plastic on this one.
Does it have a connection for external fuel tank?
Mine does not
Ok what year is it 2022 ?
It's annoying. You pour gasoline over motor and water. I resolved that problem with a litle invention.
Just take a look here: ruclips.net/video/GmR0hL-ypzU/видео.html
Please share it if you want.
This is a great engine. I use mine on a 17 ft MacGregor Venture sailboat. Plenty of power.. I store it on a little dolly.
Thanks for watching.
I had one mounted on a 19ft lightning....it once saved my ass! I think it's a good motor.
The only thing the tell tale tells you is that your impeller is working it doesn't meant that you engine is being cooled.
Thank you for letting me know
I use mine on a canoe, it's hard to see the tell tale stream so I check it by hand. It's usually pretty warm. That tells me cool water is being sucked in, sent to a hot place and then being shot back out. I'm assuming that means its keeping the engine cool. If you know more about it than that I'm all ears.
That sounds like good logic to me.
If water is exiting the tell tale then yes; it is in fact cooling. Calm down
I have the same boat.
Nice. I hope you get to use it often
@@becausearkansas2491 my 48 johnson buccaneer I can't keep running to save my life so I am looking to get a small motor like this. Still loving it?
Yes
@@becausearkansas2491 awesome
You have for sale
No, I keep it to use.
@@becausearkansas2491 ok ths
i wan't to buy this old
I hope you find one. I like seeing old boats and motors still in use. My boat was built in the 1950's.
@@becausearkansas2491 ❣
dont start your engine at full throtle.
It likes to fire up at a third throttle, not so much with it set at idle.
