to me, an idol with a good stage presence is an idol that is able to capture my attention when they are performing.
take jihyo as an example. whenever i watch twice performances, naturally, my eyes move towards her because she always seems so genuine while performing.

Yeah she doesn’t even try to hide her distaste for that song. I thought she even said herself she doesn’t like the song very much so I can’t blame her either!
Not to mention being forced to lip sync. Taeyeon has more than proven she can sing live with choreography, but SM constantly forces even their most successful vocalists to lip sync during comeback stages.

I personally think with taeyeon,she was genuinely annoyed with lip syncing becuase we've seen this with alot of sm artist and other artist . I would say aespa is also an example of this because alot of people have pointed out already how "they don't even hide it anymore". It's getting more and more obvious by the day and it's affecting their stage presence because they're truly showing how annoyed they are by it which we can't blame them for because they probably want to sing and show people that they aren't lip syncing
But its kind of bad to just be “annoyed” she at the least needs to make it look like she isnt annoyed. Just coz shes been in the industry for a long time doesnt mean she can act unprofessional amd slack off on dances
I'm not saying it's totally okay, but I think it's ~kinda~ valid bc Taeyeon has always sung live ever since. It's only just recently that SM made their artists, including her, lipsync on music shows and other stages. Remember when GD was told to lipsync? He refused and didn't even bother opening his mouth while performing an entire song. He was annoyed as hell.
All the artists there have amazing vocals but they had to lipsync bc of the aespa members there

The first time she performed Drunk in Love (where she was on that spinning chair) and Run the World (where she had that background she was dancing with). In Drunk in Love, you see at one point that she's singing, but the mic isn't anywhere near her face. In Run the World, after the first chorus where they bring her an actual mic, the difference in her voice is very noticeable. She was tired after the demanding choreo, but then she's okay? Plus, her breathing doesn't match up with the vocals. Just two instances off the top of my head.

Depends, some can ge overworked and tired and are trying the best to their ability but everyone has their limits where you can only do so much until you collapse on your bed and fall asleep a second later. They all had a passion and a talent one time, some still have it, some lost it, some grew tired of it. Lots of cases

Even if it's still their dream, they might still be there because it's their work for this specific song or specific day. So I'm not shaming them, that's just what it is they are human after all.
But to answer more in the perspective of your comment, I think you are right, they are still very hardworking and it's not because they don't reach their goal yet that they are not there for their dream.

I am a huge fan of kpop and bad stage presence doesn't mean we hate them but it should probably improve bcs of the fans and also it doesn't matter if you aren't gonna sing live what matters is the stage presence and if you are gonna lipsync then you should do it right for the fans which can be fixed if you didn't do it right but either way taeyeon is amazing and the video makes sense and also she isn't mad bcs she isn't singing live it's that even look at taeyeon expressions with the group she kinda does it only a little and there are new groups who lipsync but they do it correctly and no it doesn't matter if they sing live or not (no hate to you or the creator or any idol I am not trying to start a fight have a great day everyone! )

if you're talking about Chaeyoung(twice), honestly this is valid I always see her very alive before (at 16) music to her is the main thing that makes her shine, in her vlive that's what captures me the most even my non-once friend told me so, she's so good but they don't even bring her to the spotlight at her project with Dahyun I can see her genuinely being happy with it, Their concept doesn't fit her. She's so calm yet the other members are energetic, she's calm in a way a person would see her cool or scary there's no in-between. I low-key wish they didn't renew so she could go her way or maybe they'd give her some love they brought to other members. She's so bright whenever she sings and rap but the group concept take it away
Although I don't stan twice I always watch jihyo's fancam because her performance is just so fun to watch she gives her 100% and also enjoy the performance to the fullest.

Sehun and Kai both of them have different style of dancing, Kai gives sexy, flirty vibe where Sehun's steps are smooth and about facial expression... he has a rbf he can't do anything about it. Telling Sehun's stage presence as "bad" really was funny. All EXO members' stage presence is perfect in their own way, all of them have their own style.

Shinee's Taemin has an insane stage presence too, I feel like a good stage presence doesn't only come from practice but it is just a natural talent some people have, making appropriate facial expressions while dancing is quite hard if you ask me especially if the choreography is hard so idols have to be charismatic and full of expressions in the first place to capture people's attention

I think Chaeyoung CAN have good stage presence but is really inconsistent with it. For example she had amazing stage presence during Fancy but looked bored during Alcohol Free for example.
Outside of Jihyo, Nayeon, Momo and Sana, I think Chae and Jeongyeon have the best stage presence after those 4. There is a wall from Sana to JeongChae though.

Sehun'a is because it's the whole concept for him which stinks. He also contributes alot to the vocals but for performances they use him as a visual and rapper. It's annoying as an Exol to see him get kinda just used for his looks when he's talented. Taeyong tho is pissed they had to lipsync that song when it would have been 10x better live their vocals are insane.
Sehun is not bad at all. I often find my eyes glued on him, but he's almost always on the back so that's why you basically end up noticing Kai and the others more. Kai and Lay are more fluid with their movements and they're absolutely amazing in their field, but Sehun stage presence is actually good, I like the fact that he's not always exaggerating his movements. But like you already said, he's constantly used for his visuals :(

As an ExoL I think agree that he's not bad at dancing at all but I'd say mediocre and lack of stage presence. I've stan Kai for too long and he's the standard you can't blame me for that. But it's to the point that even Baekhyun main vocalist has way better stage presence than Sehun, a lead dancer. At times he can go hard but also looks soulless and no passion at all. He basically scouted for his visuals so..he really has no interest in performing unlike Kai and Baekhyun who auditioned bcs they want to

You'll find moments where guys like RM, Jin and Suga are very focused on executing the choreography as opposed to having more stage presence, which is understandable at the end of the day. Generally, BTS is very good though, even though not all the members were natural dancers.

as a dancer, unfortunately stage presence is often a natural ability and not a skill that can be learned. it’s kind of sad to see people ranked as good and bad when it’s just someone’s natural presence.
True... But there are a lot of skills a dancer can utilize though, to at least cap their abilities. Take Jihyo during a specific interview in the past. She practiced winking to blend in more with the cute concept. Another great example is Chaeryeong from ITZY. She recently expressed that she practiced smiling by watching her sunbaenim Red Velvet's Joy's performances, and it seemed effective in their latest comeback. Tbh, it's all about practice, dedication, and confidence to pull this off.
