Don't be too harsh on yourself. That medal is deserved because you did try just as hard as everyone who completed. Yes you might have underestimated the marathon and dropped the ball on preparing for it. But you still gave it your best shot, learned a lot and had a lot of fun. And that's what brings skaters together and what skate events are all about no?
I really like that you and most of the other skating youtubers put up videos of when things don't go to plan. For someone like me who took up inline skating a few months ago it's very encouraging to see that even the semi-pros do sometimes fail to meet their own expectiations.
I wouldn't even gone to a Marathon that's your hugest step! Keep the metal on your wall for motivation! Keep going it happens now you know what to expect. Congratulations anyway all the way from L.A. California!
Ooooh boiiii. Eat well before you skate bro :D Next time make sure you get 2 bananas with you on the road for some quick sugars when you need it, It helps you getting that quick energy :D
I eat/Drink some pre race energy gel 30 min before race, then i have 4 small botles of energy drink ( drink belt) that i drink 1 each 10k... and I eat a good carb meal 2h before the race also... Never skated the Paris Marathon but Berlin Inline Marathon a few times.
I managed 32miles on Goodwood racetrack by stopping in the pit area when I needed a drink and a stretch , if you can't stop then you must carry sweet hydration fuel's ! ...PS stoke up with carbohydrates the night before . Oh , and iam in my 60's.
RESPECT to you whether you finished or not!!!...on another note, i was surprised to see soooo much BAD SKATING STYLES from the other skaters & yet they were competing in a marathon! That blew me away the most!
Hey man, congrats on even attempting it. Just remember that it's a different type of skating, too. Just like the tricks you practice (and I try to learn from) distance and endurance take practice and training. Keep at it! I look forward to seeing more work for marathons in the future!
Don't worry, that was still a fun video to watch :D Also I thought you wouldn't actually film during the event, just before and after, so that was a bonus ^^
The longer distance - the more important to preload body with nice, carbo rich food day before, get nice and tough breakfast, drink and eat easily digestible foods during race. For my personal needs it's just a bread, cheese, and sugared soda combined with clear water (proportion is dynamic). I use no special nutritions, and feel it good enough for me to all day biking pretty hard.
Tiago don't be hard on your self you have the chance to participated and that's why you got the medal but dosen't mean you did anything wrong you was there and not on any other places seating on the couch watching TV and drinking beer , so that's why you got the medal next time just do more research like me when I want come back skeating after 20 years, I watch your videos and learn from that, is never too late , KJ cheers , PD. I would like to be there next year that will be awesome :) Viva Francia !!
Really Tiago, don't be too hard on yourself. It's a marathon, it's long and it's your first. If you ask me, you did well to get as far as you did. I'd sure be cheering you on as well. I totally understand your wish not to wear the medal, I'd probably be the same. I did really enjoy your face at the start though, it gave me a good laugh.
Maaaannn... you gotta prepare, yes, but the most important thing is water!! You get dehydrated very fast with that kind of exertion and your body keeps losing fluid through sweating, you just have to keep sipping a liquid to keep yourself hydrated. This is why you felt sick, and faint. Sure you gotta eat for energy too, beforehand, (not too much) but water is most important. Thing is though, you underestimated it, but hey, you tried, and the medal will remind you what you need to do for the next one! Nice video! So many people! Great to see, awesome.. You can do it with ease Tiago, you're fit and healthy, you just didn't prepare, that's all.
I've been training for one since June. I've never had the chance to go to one yet but I know it's very hard to complete. Try to find one somewhere near you and train for that one specifically for a few months in advance, there's so many things to learn about it like a proper breathing technique, proper strides, even proper skates if you are taking it very seriously. I'll be skating with my Seba high light v2(which is not the proper ones for sure) but I'll be buying the 110 frames soon so I can do even better. Keep it up man, one day we both will be able to finish one.
You also had what looked like a heavy fleece top on! Hydration, electrolytes and 60g of carbs per hour are key for endurance events. Peanut butter works for me also......
Tiago, I'm curious to know if you were rockered here? I have never done a marathon, but I can regularly skate 30km easily on a 76x80x80x76 setup. I have tried the RB110s and will never use a flat setup again 😅 I have found I get plenty of speed on my setup. Oh, and I also make it a point to eat well the night before, and the morning of any outings for me that will be over an hour. I know you know that now though. Thanks so much for all your inspiration! A year ago I only dreamed of skating the way I do now, and I get better every time I go out.
Next time bro, hydrate before and during and take some glucose bars for a quick hit of sugar during the marathon. On a side note, I got some Seba high light carbon with the carbon cuff... Just need to get some wheels for it
Dude Just like running a marathon, practice long distances Hydration Hydration Hydration Fuel I would personally treat it like a gran fondo cycle race. Great content chap, peace
I've done occasional 30+ kms with a bunch of people with half an hour of a BREAK and carb snack after the first 15km, which was ok. I've also done a couple cross-terrain runs (without skates) with crowds of people. When you are in a race but are not experienced with racing, you are going to pace yourself wrong and run out of steam. And I'm not even talking about competing with trained athletes as happens in those marathons. Also note that speed skates are different than our normal freeskates.
Dude, i never drove a marathon by skates. (I ran three marathons). But i want to do it like you. Great to see that you failed and learned something AND put that online. Great Work dude!!! :)
Aw, mate! Tough luck for your first marathon, but congrats for trying. You're inspiring my girlfriend and I, and we want to skate in the next one. Maybe we'll see you there. 👍
Bravo.! You tried your best and well done for that 🤜🤛. I habe 1 question I'm beginner with inline skates and I habe powerslide vi suv now.. Are you think is good for me.?(better i feel good with them)
Hey man, you gave it your best shot and there’s always next time!!! :) Question though: was the weather hot during the marathon? I ask because that black sweater/hoodie you were wearing might have caused some heat retention/overheating, which may have added to your lack of energy. :/
leogurl816 yes! and the weather was awesome! but the sweater wasn't hot, like it was perfecly fine! ( I kept it for the pockets! it was easier to store batteries, memory cards, phone ect ) I don't think the sweater is also responsible for that :)
Its not about winning or placing in the top 10 its about pushing your own personal limits more and more and learning from other the skaters the more you skate the better your stamina will get and im by far not a marathon skater..my personal goal right now is 18 miles 9 there and 9 back steep short decents and inclines on a bike path called Capitol trail on 4x80mm 😉
Don't be too harsh on yourself. it was a good idea to stop and to not strain yourself . Half a marathon isn't that bad! If it was that much of a disappointment, then at least you made a good video to watch
I trained all summer and realized I would barely make it through half a marathon, and I had no partner trained enough to do the other half, and my training time was highly reduced as September arrived. But had I known, I would have offered you to team up with me for the marathon. I would regularly go for 12 km rollerskating sessions. Since then, I've started skateboard, so my roller-skates tend to gather dust these days, but we can meet up for training sessions, if you want to get ready for the next race.
hahaha this is me almost every day except the others on the road are amish horse and buggy (asphalt rough like cobblestone where horses go) and bicycles--no other skaters--voted out in local amish church--they ride foot powered scooters OTR
from your feedback, I think you got dehydrated in the race. It's a usual problem to a lot of people doing marathons. Bring water fanny packs next time maybe. Stay safe!!
The last race i was in was a half marathon. When I finished I was kind of disappointed in my self. Because I had more energy to give. I could have gotten a better time. If I had used more energy... Btw I hurt m ankle so I couldn't skate for a month after. Just started again yesterday....
Your blood sugar was probably very low from not eating. You might want to learn what tri athletes, bicyclists & marathon runners do to prepare for races. You deserve the medal 🥇. Be proud of your effort. There will be a next time! 👍
I looked it up the marathon was about 42km long, so he did 21km. If you had trained aerobically for month, this wouldn't have been a problem, but you didn't. You need to develop aerobic muscel types over a long time, now you know.
Don't get too down on yourself my brother. You tried your best! You will only truly fail if you never try a marathon again. Peace.
you're right! 😎✌🏼
I really like that you and most of the other skating youtubers put up videos of when things don't go to plan. For someone like me who took up inline skating a few months ago it's very encouraging to see that even the semi-pros do sometimes fail to meet their own expectiations.

Woman, but it's okay lol.
Ooooh boiiii. Eat well before you skate bro :D Next time make sure you get 2 bananas with you on the road for some quick sugars when you need it, It helps you getting that quick energy :D
JMR Fitness Yeah :/
Dried dates are easier to carry around!
I mean I eat Big Macs before and I take a 2 cheeseburgers with me for the road and for sugar I get ice cream
I managed 32miles on Goodwood racetrack by stopping in the pit area when I needed a drink and a stretch , if you can't stop then you must carry sweet hydration fuel's ! ...PS stoke up with carbohydrates the night before . Oh , and iam in my 60's.

Tiago, I love you dude, and wish you the best of success and joy life can offer. Carbs and hydration!
I admire your humility! I would have had a hard time wearing that if I didn't finish. Glad to hear it is motivating you though! Great attitude!
I know the feeling, the Amsterdam running marathon, i was like a zombie at the finish!!!
Thanks for sharing Tiago.... im planning my first marathon as well for next year.
LJavier Ruiz yeah 😎 Let's do this
Wow! I didn't know inline skating had marathon's like this. I didn't even know there were this many inline skaters in existence... This is awesome!
Don't worry, that was still a fun video to watch :D Also I thought you wouldn't actually film during the event, just before and after, so that was a bonus ^^
Jonatan OTW I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Bravo à toi !
Merci pour toutes tes vidéos.

Great achievement bro . All the best next time.

Don't worry about it. It was a learning experience. You'll be prepared next time.
Great that you tried doing your best, I'm sure you'll finish the whole distance next year! :)
Wise words Tiago. Hopefully better results next time but, as the saying goes..., “ fail to prepare? prepare to fail “
Tiago não fique triste.

Before the marathon take a coffee first tiago 😁
Bam Cee what does coffee do before a marathon ? 😊
Hell no, no coffee, it dehydrates you lol.. Water or diluted juice.
Just a halfcup of coffee just to make you awake! So you won't feel fainting!
wearing black great idea

Dire Wolfy a marathon is 42k !
Tiago Inline Skater 42K?!?!! ThATS 26 MILES. (You can tell I don't run)
OH snap, I better train
I regularly skate 15-20 kms two to three times a week on quad skates using the promenade along the seafront 10 minutes from home

You should have wear much cooler or well ventilated clothes, cabn you do a vid about you going to school while skating
Come on only one lap! Just kidding. Nice thing is that you tried. Next time with more training and some snacks beforehand.
J'aurai fait 25% à tout casser perso x)
i wish i could travel in your place just to skate or some company will give a sponsorship to me
i do same 26 km for 3 days then i cant move xD
Very decent from you.. try to increase your stamina and keep good nutrition 👍
Try to run 10-15 km.
Next time load up with 200 grams of carbs 3 hours prior to the race
You better train and build physical condition for such activity. No other motivation or food will make it better.

Tiago can you please shout me out in your next video please can you do that for your next video
