Is this new 10.7 Final Cut Pro update the bees-knees, as the cool kids say? Let’s run through all the big things that the 10.7 update brought to FCP. We’ll talk about some details about the new features in the update and I’ll give my first impressions of them.

It’s promising that a number of updates have happened recently, as long as they keep coming, this can only be a good thing for those who still love FCP :)
Yep yep! I have high hopes for 2024. I think now that they've finished FCP for the iPad, they're redirect their time to the desktop version.

Warm. And that being said, the upgrade process was very smooth. No issues. I suppose the scrolling timeline was a fair bit of work for the engineers. So props to them. For some reason, it just feels kind of like a normal upgrade.
Funny, I thought Command Post could already turn on this feature in PREVIOUS versions of FCP. Maybe 10.7 is a better implementation than before and exposes the feature without the need for Command Post.
Yep, normal for sure. Considering the past few updates though, this one seems solid.

Hi Dylan.. I want to know.. if my source file and project files save into two separate ssd. would it help to 'speed up' render time?
It is NOT .. until they provide these features:
1- keyframe easing and graph editor
2- dynamic link with apple motion
3- assign more favorite shortcuts like the transform and crop
4- mask to be an independent tool which can be accessed through a specific short cut not under effects
5- Built in Motion Blur 🤷🏻♂️
Those would be very nice. Although number 3 is interesting to me. You know there are shortcuts for those tools, right?

You mean with color masks? Oh definitely. I've talked to the FCP developers and mentioned that I'd love to have that included. We'll see if they do. Do you use Color Finale 2 Pro at all though?

Definitely some small improvements. I think it’s important to recognize the cost difference of FCP compared to adobe over 20 years. If I was working with adobe, I would expect perfection for the cost over time. FCP is so well priced for the average amateur film maker! Thanks again Dylan. Your videos are so understandable and succinct!
That's a very true statement. And I think 2024 will bring about some bigger changes to the desktop version of FCP. One can hope.

Scrolling Timeline is something I always wanted and wondered why it wasn't so. I do have the latest option but I do not see the setting to enable it. Even restarted the machine. 😁

Just purchased FCP coming from the trial . I can’t seem to find where to add my clog 3 Lut to the footage. It use to be in the i icon on the top right. It also also allowed you to change to Rec 709 color space.
Use the 'custom LUT' effect in the effects browser.
@@dylanjohndickerson yeah that’s what I’ll start using . The other way was just more simple . Appreciate it 💪🏾
It may be simpler, but it's also the incorrect way to do it. If you have any issues with your LOG footage, you need to be able to make adjustments to the source clip, before the LUT is locked in. And with the inspector window option, it doesn't allow you to do that.

Dylan do you have the m3? Updated to 10.7 on Sonoma with the m3 fully specd out from the m1 and it’s doing a terrible job at keeping up. Constant spinning wheels on easy tasks. Any similarities you’ve faced?

Have you seen any compatibility issues with colorfinale?
I haven't done a bunch of tests, but applying the preset with CF2 Pro in it seems to work just fine.
Mine keeps freezing on 10.7 and wont play the timeline.. have to quit and reopen every ten minutes or so
Does Color Finale still work with the update? I’d hate to find out AFTER I try 😅 I use it a LOT for color grading.

Definitely Final Cut Pro. It's much easier to learn, has a more intuitive UI and is powerful and speedy.

I don't understand the use of a second connected storyline if it will just break them apart. I stack up a lot in my videos, and I thought this would help me to clean that up.

It does help to clean that up. Unless you're referring to media that need to be stacked on each other, like a title over a video clip, etc.

Fair enough. I’m in a similar boat.
FCP is just good at what it does - cut video. The stabilizer, key frame work, tracker, audio editing - any of that i just do in another program. Its a pain in the butt how lame the 3rd party audio plug in support is - the way you have to create a clip extension to get the reverb tail to carry on.. stupid stuff like that.. the stabilizer has only ever made any shot I’ve tried to use it in look like an acid trip mess, and the key frames just look friggin staccato and if it wasn’t for motion VFX and Color Finale Pro, I’d be in Resolve exclusively but i love the canvas editing workflow. I just cut in it, and no matter what they update after all these years, it’s still just good at one thing.
I wish I could say I disagree, but I don't. MotionVFX plugins and CF2 Pro are big reasons why I love FCP and stay with it. They make FCP really powerful. I, of course, also love the magnetic timeline, FCP's speed and reliability, ranged based keywording and smart collections, the simple yet effective UI, etc, but plugins really give the software a lot of strength.
It seems to mess with the keyboard shortcuts, at least in international version... :(
Really?? Wow that’s very odd and unbelievably annoying. I’m sorry that’s happening. Perhaps it’s switched your custom keyboard shortcuts to the default? I assume you checked that drop down menu in the top left of the keyboard shortcut editor.
@@dylanjohndickerson It seems to have to do with the language settings. Because when I switch the System keyboard settings from German to English some other shortcuts are working (and some are not). Annoying stuff.

Yup yup. I know I said this in 2023, but I do think 2024 is going to be a big year for the software haha. I can't say how I know that or if it will actually happen, but I have high hopes.

I’m quite disappointed if I’m being honest. I love FCP and whilst I wont make a switch cause I’m so invested, these updates seem very underwhelming. Connected storyline is a clean up tool. I was hoping for connected clips with expandability.

Not a single one of these updates will save me more than an hour of time over the course of the year while firefly for video would save dozens of not hundreds of hours. This is a crap update from a company that has abandoned professionals. Please sell FCP to a company that will actually innovate it.

Can we PLEASE get either a keyframe editor or at least the ability to default keyframes to LINEAR. The lack of this feature has screwed me over more times than I can count.
A legit audio mixer like we used to have way back when before X came out.
The ability to make a change to a Title (like opacity or position) without it affecting everything under it and without having to make it a compound clip.
