Please let me know some advice that YOU have learned from your journey. I'd love to hear more helpful tips/advice and I'm sure others would as well 😊
Honesty , modesty and genuine content… content is king. Well done Dylan , you deserve all the success you are having !
@@ThisisDigitalden i greatly appreciate it, Denes 🙏 thanks for the continued support!
Dude you’ve made a lot of amazing videos. But this one hit different. This is really one of my all time favorites from you. Amazing work brotha!
Well hot damn! I really appreciate that brochacho 👊🏼 It means a lot!
Spot on about the negative comments.
One person called out my little CTA "stick around for the answer at the end of the video" and said it was manipulative. I responded with "make sure to like and subscribe" and added that I hope my videos are someday good enough that everyone will stick around until the end even if I don't ask them to do so.
I won over more than just that viewer. Keeping it positive has positive impact immediately and down the road.
I've also muted a few people, especially when the comments are particularly nasty and/or unrelated to the video topic.
Rock on!
That's how you have to do it! Great work 🤘🏼
I also JUST hit 5 years. Man what a journey it’s been. Posted a video today with my top tips I’ve learned. Somehow it feels like I’m just getting started on the right path even though it’s been 418 videos to get to this point!
That first one is by far the best! Just start!
It's the one that got me for so long. And prevents many others from ever starting.
This was so great! Number one is SOOOO me, hahah :D I loved the “Don’t quit your day job” comment… 🙈 Next step: Win the battle with consistency. Thank you for sharing this and having me in your video! :)
Number 1 was all of us I think! haha. Yep yep, that's a battle alright. Something that I should have mentioned is to not feel like a failure if you miss a week of videos. As much as you think people will notice and will be upset at you, everyone's too busy in their own life to notice and the small few that do notice won't care. Thanks for being a part of the video, dude!
Man, this is jam packed with solid advice. So cool to see your journey and learnings so far! Here's to the next 5 years! 😄💪🏼
Really appreciate it, brotha! And thanks for sharing your knowledge as well 👊🏼
@@dylanjohndickerson So glad I could be a part of it!
Consistency is hard for me because I have kind of a niche I just made up, which is “travel the world, learn interesting facts about nature/plants/wildlife, then come home and make art inspired by the experience to share the importance of landscape and species conservation”. Yep that’s it. Still working on my first video in this new niche. I’ll let ya know when it’s done. 😊
Sick! Although you could start with videos where you aren't traveling. Just a thought. For example discussing certain nature/plants/wildlife. Maybe doing video chats with people who are experts on them. Maybe some videos of you planning these trips. There is someone that you can check out that does something similar. His nam is Zimy Da Kid. He does a lot of work with sharks in particular.
@@dylanjohndickerson yep I have heard of him but have only watched one of his vids, which was from Corcovado, (a place I just spent some time in-truly epic) in Costa Rica. I guess I need to see more of his stuff. thanks as always!
3:48 Creating videos which do poorly is my specialty.
I'm actually pretty good at it, some would say very advanced at posting disasterpieces.
😂 well, if you ever want to book a 1 on 1 call to go over how you can improve, just shoot me an email: hi@dylanjohndickerson.com
great stuff here bro! you actually gave more than just what people usually give on this topic. You touched on the mental aspect of running a RUclips channel. Thanks bro!
Really appreciate it brotha! I had to because it really is such a mental game. Thanks for the support 👊🏼
"May your SD card start empty and your shots always be in focus." - old irish youtuber farewell
😂
Great advice all around 💪🏼
Thanks so much for the advice brother! 💪🏼
Thanks for the inspiration. BTW, the baseball transition was KILLER!!!
Glad you like that 😊 thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you so much for making this video ❤
Great advice, Dylan. Thanks. The stuff about just getting on with it and not comparing yourself to other creators is so valuable.
Not so sure about the "Just quit your day job" tip though. I don't think adding a sense of jeopardy to your creative process is the right way to go 😂
Thanks for watching, Rob! Ya I think that's going to work only for some people. I didn't really have the balls to do it back in the day, but maybe I would've been fine had I tried.
I had trolling discussions on my channel today. One thing I like to point out is that... healthy channels HAVE trolls. It's a sign of channel success. Now some content like mine draws trolls like crazy because people are paid to attempt to hide my content so I get more than average for a small channel. But any successful channel is going to get trolls. Think of it like getting a high score. If you don't have trolls, something is wrong!
Yep yep! I agree with you entirely. It shows that you're doing something right. Jealousy is setting in on these people. Great point, Scott!
People are paid to hide your content?
Charge from the beginning and thumbnail first. This video recharges me. Thanks for taking the time!
Stoked to hear that, Novak! Thanks for watching 😊
What a great video! 👋🏻to all RUclips friends!
Thanks so much guys 🥹 and thanks so much for the incredible trip. I'm really looking forward to putting out the video next week.
This advice is pure gold!!!
And thanks for not cutting me🤪
Pshh of course I wouldn't! I did cut your Instagram joke part, just because I was strapped for time though!
@@dylanjohndickerson it was a lame joke. I would have cut it too. lol. But all jokes aside, I absolutely loved this video!
@@Serge1913 Naaa I liked it. Thanks a ton, Serge 🙏🏼 Thanks for contributing your knowledge!
The wisdom in this video is right on time, especially regarding the hate on the platform! One thing I've learned, which is as clear as day, is that the people who view your shorts are not the same audience that will subscribe to your long-form content and are also the quickest to be negative.
So happy to hear that. And yep yep! That's part of the reason why I don't create Shorts.
@@dylanjohndickerson Lessoned learned! I appreciate your work and hold up, you make music too?! I was looking at the different packages on Motion VX and you came out of nowhere with a banger promo video!
@@iameddieruiz 😂 I do not but that's sick you saw that video! MotionVFX used to be a client of mine so I created a fake music video for their mLyrics plugin. I assume that's what you're talking about. I think this was my favorite one that I made for them though: ruclips.net/video/vkDX3a_jwm8/видео.htmlsi=KRgn2KO3JO1rVovU
@@dylanjohndickerson that’s doooope! 😂
Dylan, love this video you always have amazing and helpful content. So much gold in this video that it’s crazy, you have been such a big boost for me in my short time on the platform. 💯🤝
So happy to hear that, Justin 😊 thanks a ton for the continued support.
Great tips and advice for sure! The value of the thumbnail is something I’ve been focusing on lately. I definitely over crowded the thumbnail before, and now I’m trying to go back and update some of them.
Also, be willing to learn about new tech such as AI stuff. You had a video about gling AI, and that has been an absolute godsend for my channel! Thanks again man 🙏
Thanks Scott! Yep yep, the thumbnail is so important. Glad you're trying to improve on them. Right? Isn't Gling the jam? It saves me quite a lot of time.
That was just insane. Keep it up , bro. How generous you should be to fill us in on a ton of golden pieces of advice we'd have to go through a whole bunch of trial and errors to know about , otherwise. And please don't take those nasty comments seriously. You're the best. 💯🙏
🥹 I really appreciate the thoughtful comment, Roohollah. Thanks a ton. I'm more than happy to help out and share what I've learned and learned from the advice of others. I wish your channel success!
Really enjoyed this piece of advice🤗 Thank you for putting it all together. The bits of advice shared by other youtubers were a really nice treat. 👏🏻👏🏻
So glad to hear that! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 😊
Awesome video, Dylan! Thanks for all the great tips. I took notes. The tip that resonated the most is the one to have a clear category of videos to make so that ppl will be able to follow and know our content better--and expect to see certain topics.
And on a funny note--in my last video, I used the same b-roll clip of the woman leaning on the tree. Such a great shot!
Thanks for watching, David! Oh no way haha glad to see you're liking Motion Array 😊
Thanks for taking time to give us so much good advice! 🙌💪😊
It's my pleasure 😊 thanks for the support!
Editor Summer here, this is a well thought out video from A-Z. I'm so glad you mentioned sponsorship in that way and thumbnail tips. And more.😮 Saving this video as a refresher for later. Thank you.
Commenter Dylan here. It's my pleasure 😊 thanks a ton for letting me know it helped out.
Let me be the first to comment from Sunny Singapore. Awesome video - JUST DO IT! Don't procrastinate, there no such thing as a perfect video :-) Improvements are always on the cards every new video. Cheers mate.
Love me some Singapore. And I agree entirely. Awesome advice 👊🏼
I would agree with this! I really need to stop procrastinating things and distracting myself a lot because those are what’s hold me back from making content.
This video is gold Dylan!
Thanks a ton Josh! Really appreciate you saying that 👊🏼
Great tips Dylan!
Thanks for the content creation system tip, dude! And for the wise words at the end 🙏🏼
These are great! Thank you so much!
Thank so much! 😊 Really glad you enjoyed it!
Great tips! My suggestion is to pace yourself. At the start, it’s easy to go crazy and post a bunch of videos, but you’ll burn out trying to keep up a crazy posting schedule. I’ve managed to settle into a routine where I record and edit four videos a week, but I only post three. My videos are guitar lessons, which are not time sensitive like a new product review might be, so I can afford to have some buffer between when I create the videos and when I actually post them. Working a little bit ahead like this allows you to build in some cushion and allow yourself to take a break when you need it.
Ya great great point! I fall into this trap sometimes. I'll create multiple videos and release them the same week. Pacing oneself is definitely useful.
The "*of 10" ranking in the analytics can be disheartening sometimes. I know for my other proper RUclips automotive channel, it has definitely bugged me. But my tip is -
Don't study this analytic too closely, as it's measuring your latest 10 videos. If you've had a solid run of 9 good videos, you're putting the 10th one amongst strong competition.
And it literally could be 25 views away from being a "4 of 10".
I also prefer to zoom out of the analytics to about 3-6 months and look at my channel and how I've progressed on a longer scale. Then you'll see how much you've improved, and what videos you made months ago, which you thought had flopped, have now suddenly gained traction.
RUclips can be tough to stay motivated with sometimes. But the life skills and experience you'll gain from it are worth the hard work! 💪🏻
All great tips, Kevin! Thanks for sharing your tip. I agree entirely. I honestly don't look at my analytics and I delete the RUclips studio app from my phone (unless I need to reply to comments after posting a video).
Thank you for this video 😊
It's my pleasure 😊 thanks so much for watching!
Thank you. That was very inspiring, so, ok, I am starting.
Definitely start, Christian!
Beautiful video made!
Thanks for watching, Renee! 🙏🏼
Great video brother!
Thanks so much! 😊
Perfect timing to subscribe your channel haha! Thanks for that vid, Dylan! 🙌
My pleasure, David! Thanks so much for the comment and sub 👊🏼
Thanks for your insights :)
Thanks so much for watching :)
Great video...tho very Glam! Excellent advice thank you. Great to see some of my mentors in the vid.
You're welcome! Thanks so much for watching 👊
Thanks for what you do! My favorite part about your education is you cutting out the fluff BS. Unfortunately for me, RUclips will always hate me - speaking truth in 2024 isn’t easy.
M pleasure, Marc! I appreciate the support 👊🏼
Amazing Video! Thanks for sharing! I started myself some months ago and it is really hard in the beginning. I am right now at 38 subscribers but I am enjoying the process of learning how to make a new video the next time. My editing skills got also better and since I have different formats on my channel I truely enjoy doing it. Quiting my job is a bit difficult since I love what I do. Some time ago I really had a phase where I wanted to quit. I was not feeling it anymore only because an algorithm somehow dictated my mood. I shifted my mindset and recalibrated so I get detached from it. I love to collaborate and I try to reach out to bigger creators in my niche. Right now it is hard to convince someone but maybe in some months it will be different. I am enjoying the ride and I want to thank to all the creators outthere, making such great videos and lifting up others! Thanks! All the best for you all!
Thanks so much for the kind words and good luck on your journey! 👊🏼
Awesome
Thanks for watching 👊🏼
Man this whole video lit a fire in me I need to get out of my head and just record thanks
Do it! It's either 'one day' or 'day 1'. Make it the latter.
@@dylanjohndickerson thanks I appreciate you
Thanks for this bro, I hope this helps my small channel
It certainly will! Just keep creating and finding small ways to improve and your small channel will become a much bigger channel with time. Good luck 👊🏼
@@dylanjohndickerson thank you bro

🤣 I never made it past Gordon Ramsey's food.
Do you have any videos about RUclips studio? I have kind of an idea of it but definitely would like to know your opinion about it.
I don't unfortunately. I honestly don't look at RUclips studio much, other than to upload/write descriptions for, etc. It's too much of a distraction. I'm at the point where I know what videos to make and how to make them. I don't need to stress myself out over every little analytic on the YT studio, you know?
Hi Dylan, what would be those 4 pillars for Casey neaistat content. It can be unrelated, like New York, tech, filmmaking, vblogs ? I am confuse
He’s so big that those different 4 pillars don’t matter all that much. People watch his content for him.
Love the advice! By the way, at 1:58, is that Brennen Taylor?
Thanks so much! I'm not sure actually. I just found that GIF on a site.
@@dylanjohndickersonOh ok, because he looks familiar from my perspective.
Good tips and advice brother! Love it :) We're launching a second channel soon, so your video comes at a perfect time!
Thanks for watching homies! What's the second channel going to be on? 🤔
@@dylanjohndickerson You are welcome dude! It will be in the niche Silent Hiking :), Channel is Silent Outdoor Couple :)
@@DigitalTravelVideos Love it 😊 so excited to see it!
Thank you for this video … all that you said was helpful… yes I was looking at my views and saying RUclips hates me lol … and one big shout out to you is that you Do respond back to your viewers… which a a lot of content creators don’t (( unless you pay them )) so thanks
Glad you liked it 😊 Well in their defense, sometimes the amount of comments certain creators get is mind boggling. It takes hours to respond to all the comments, so it's not like they don't care, it's just that they don't have the time. I'm at the point now where the amount of comments I receive isn't that crazy, so I'm stoked to reply back to people.
great advice, but can anyone give some advice on tech channel niche, because i started my channel and i'm still learning how to edit videos and trying different ideas on editing, but one thing that isn't working are my thumbnails so any advice will be appreciated
Thanks! It sounds like you’re needing some more personalized advice huh. I do 1 on 1 consultations if you’re interested. Shoot me an email when you get the chance:
Hi@dylanjohndickerson.com

@@digitalworldguides Sounds good. Did you check the thumbnail section of this video? Because that should help a lot. Best of luck.
I feel like you were about to say "Your video did bad because you are bad and you should feel bad, jaja."
😂 that would've been a solid joke.
Incredible video. Your voice shines in the morass of mediocrity.
You know how I know it's you, Alex? Because I don't know what the word 'morass' means 😂 thanks so much for watching! And congratulations again, brother! Let me know when you and Syl need a vacation from city life and we'll take you to some waterfalls and beautiful beaches 👊🏼
Great video. thanks Dylan! One feedback, the background light (right behind your head) is distracting. please dont use it
Thanks for the feedback! I'll turn down the brightness, but since you're the only one to make that comment and since I like the light, I'm going to keep it in. I appreciate the opinion though.
@@dylanjohndickerson appreciate it. And thanks for all those tutorials that you make
how should I feel if i have 40k subs and only 1500 views on most of my videos.. are people just subbing for the viral stuff?
That happens sometimes. Just focus on creating the best possible content you can make and that 1500 will bump up gradually.
Totally should have rotoscoped the Major League logo on that baseball. I'm sure the studios wouldn't have minded. ;)
Level up your RUclips game ten fold, what does that mean?
Tenfold = ten times as great or as numerous.
Great video Dylan! I just started my channel last February, 2023. Editing has improved..... I'm moving along just the way Peter Lindgren suggests in your video. I'm still working full time, but will retire in 2.5 years, and I plan to make this my side gig. I just enjoy editing and the challenge of it all! Thank you for all your informative videos!! @CaliToKalibo721
