  • Little Giant Xtreme Ladder Review - Model 22 with Ratchet Levelers
    This is my Little Giant Xtreme Ladder System review and "what you should know" (ladder buying guide) if you're considering model 22 (or M22) with ratchet levelers, or even model 17 (17 foot ladder) or model 26 (26 foot ladder). The Little Giant Xtreme ladder is similar to the Revolution Ladder - Type 1A in that they both come with tip and glide wheels, Quad-Lock Hinges, Rock Locks, trestle brackets, and a lifetime warranty. I chose the Little Giant Xtreme model over the Revolution XE because it comes with the airdeck, comfort step, and fuel tank which costs less than buying the accessories separately with a Revolution model. And you can't get the airdeck for use with a Revolution model because it's not compatible. The Revolution has metal hinge covers though versus the Little Giant Xtreme Ladder's, which are heavy plastic. Both ladders are available with the ratchet leveler (leg levers) option.
    Because of the weight of the Little Giant Xtreme 22, I mainly use it in the A-frame positions. If I'm doing high work outdoors, I find it easier to move around my 35 lbs Werner extension ladder instead of navigating the exhausting Xtreme (46.5 lbs). #littlegiant #littlegiantladder

    I liked your no BS approach. I’m thinking about purchasing the M22 with the ratcheting legs as well for my next project which is painting my two story house. Very real world and you’re humor was a nice touch. Keep up the great work.

      Thanks for the kind words! Lowe’s recently started carrying a version of the little giant 22’ ladder with ratchet levelers for $219... weighs 44lbs. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the Xtreme, but may be worth a look.

    My grandfather gifted me this exact model and I’m very impressed with the quality, thank you for sharing your information.

      Very welcome! It’s a great ladder but as I get older, it seems to get heavier. 🤣

    Thanks for the candid review. I wanted the little giant extreme model 22, but went with the model 17 so my wife can handle it too. Glad I did because it's heavy for her to navigate around the house. I agree it's a bit cumbersome in the extension ladder config.

    Thank you for this review.
    I hesitated because of its price, and I thought to take "The stool Select Step 5-8" but now, your video convinced me to take this model because in addition we can make a mini scaffolding. Thank you

      Glad the video was helpful! If you don't need ratchet levelers, the comfort step, or the extra bells and whistles (air deck, paint bucket) , check Costco and Lowe's for less expensive versions of the Little Giant that can still be used as scaffolding.

    thanks for the review=I recently acquired the model 22 to replace a costco articulating ladder. I really like the versatility and the accessories on this unit. the added weight is not really a problem unless you are moving it all day. I haven't quite figured out how to retract the one side all the way past the rest platform yet to get it shortened all the way. I also like the added A frame height with this unit I believe this unit will me a lifetime.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree this is a “lifetime” ladder given the flexibility. I do have to admit that as I get older, I find myself reaching for my light weight 5’ wooden step ladder or aluminum extension ladder if I don’t need the extra height or stability of the Little Giant. Thanks again!

    Great info on the weight factor. A few extra pound can make a difference, that's why I load, carry my 16' fiberglass kayak without the accessories. ;-)

      Indeed! There are times when I still regret the weight of this thing! If it wasn't so secure, I'd have gone with something lighter.

    Great video. I'm looking for the Xtreme to clean my gutters which are 12 feet up. I would like to do this Step-Ladder style, not as an extension ladder. I think I need the M22 to do that comfortably as it appears the M17 would be too short. Would you agree?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  11 месяцев назад

      I’m 6’ tall and clean our first floor gutters with this ladder in the A-frame position. The gutters are a bit more than 12’ high. This ladder is heavy and as I age it seems to get heavier. I wanted to get the larger ladder, but glad I didn’t.

    Thanks for the real world review. Can you move the comfort step to other heights, the same as the little giant work platform, or is it fixed?

      Thanks for asking. The comfort step is fixed and cannot be moved on this model.

    Great review. Thanks for putting in the time. I'm looking at the 26 as I have 6m meter high gutters. But now I'm starting to wonder about the weight.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  7 лет назад

      +Clinto The M26 will be a beast to get into the extension ladder position. I know the videos make it look easy, but you’ll need plenty of room to walk it up. I was using my M22 to install a ceiling light yesterday, and I was thinking how much easier the M17 would have been to lug up a flight of stairs. Good luck!

    Good video. I like the extra goodies on the Xtreme, but I'm not sure I'd use them. So I'm debating between the Velocity 17 and the Leveler 17, which is only available at Lowes. The Velocity has Rock Locks while the Leveler has Twist Locks, which seem to be harder to use than the Rock Locks. I'm also not thrilled at the added weight of levelers and not sure how often I'd use them. Thoughts?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  6 лет назад

      Hi Jerry - regarding the goodies, I use the air deck in the A frame position fairly often and the levelers when outside. While they’re convenient, it’s nothing a tool belt and wedge wouldn’t solve. As for the rest of the goodies, they sit in the basement.
      As much as I love the sturdiness of the LG ladder, weight is still the biggest issue. I recently inherited a 17’ Werner with twist locks which I’ll use for small jobs around the house because it’s easier to carry than the m22. The twist locks are sturdy enough. A few months back I started seeing little giant ladders on sale at HD and Lowe’s for a bargain and wish I had gotten it there than from the xtreme infomercial website.

      BalanR . Thanks for the comments. I decided that weight was the most important factor and ordered a Little Giant Velocity 17 from Amazon at $161. Too good to pass up.

    Nice video I have a question for you does the 17 feet ladder comes with the platform

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  4 года назад +1

      The 17’ includes the platform and air deck when purchased from the website. I’ve seen it at Costco and other places without the ratchet levers and platform for $150.

    Would you buy one of these over a telescoping ladder. been looking at both but the telescoping ladders are pretty cool.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  5 лет назад +1

      It would depend on my needs. A Little Giant is more versatile than a telescoping ladder. If you need an adjustable extension ladder that’s easy to store, a telescoping ladder is fine. If you want a ladder that can be used in both A frame and extension configurations, the Little Giant is better. Costco recently had the Little Giant MegaMax 17 with airdeck (without leg levelers) for $150. That’s a good deal.

    Little Giant is made by Suzhou Zhongchuang Aluminium Products Co. Ltd. and Suzhou PICA Aluminum Industry Ltd., in China, so if you are happy with a China ladder, you can get a knock off for half the price.

      That’s what I’d do if I could do it all over. This ladder is really heavy and I dread when I have to move it all day.

    I think I will get the M22. Do you think it will reach a second story gutter? Seems like it should....

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  7 лет назад +2

      +Brian Gifford - it will depend on your house so best to measure. For our old Victorian-style home with a 3 foot field stone foundation and then each floor with 10' ceilings, the little giant Model 22 only reaches to the middle of the second floor windows. I need to use a 28' extension ladder (32' even better for less flex) to comfortably clean our second floor gutters. Also, keep in mind the amount of space needed (i.e., consider fences and overhead electrical wires) to properly walk up the Little Giant into extension position. Thanks for the question!

      The handles of the rock locks and quad locks is hard plastic. The locking mechanisms are metal.

    I need something that reaches to my 18 ft ceiling.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  3 года назад +1

      This ladder isn’t going to reach 18ft in the A-frame position. With it fully extended, I can reach 14ft from the comfort step using the air deck (I’m 6 feet tall). You would need to go with something bigger like the skyscraper. Just keep in mind that you’ll need a enough space for the footprint.
