Ice Therapy for Neuropathy During Chemo SuzziPad Cold Care Pack Socks, Gloves, and Cold Cap Review

  • When I started cancer treatment ice therapy was recommended to help with neuropathy during chemotherapy. Neuropathy is one of the chemo side effects that can leave you with numbness in your hands and feet. I was already using SuzziPads cold socks and gloves during my chemo infusions when they reached out to me about reviewing their new chemo care pack that included a cold cap. They also extended a coupon code to use on Amazon for anyone needing the cold packs to help keep from getting neuropathy while going through treatment.
    The ice really did help me- I also got a replacement set of ice packs because my infusion days were long and I needed to change the ice out halfway through my infusions.
    SuzziPads Chemo Care Pack: amzn.to/3RJ7K9t
    The code is active through 2024- SUZMELANIE
    Replacement Ice Packs: amzn.to/3viBfHI
    Pack without cold cap- amzn.to/3U9VaCY
    Suzzipad Amazon Store- amzn.to/3SrsxA3
    Chemo Treatment Essentials: amzn.to/3S2Ss0H
    Port Access Shirt: amzn.to/3H5tvLI

    My husband had hard core chemo with a platinum drug known to cause neuropathy. He used a simple, easy and cheap method to avoid neuropathy. We actually saw it on a utube channel. He froze small water bottles and held them during his infusion. He also put his bare feet/toes on the frozen bottles. He did this every time and he never had any neuropathy issues.

    Hi Melanie. I'm glad to hear the ice packs helped you, they did not for me. I already had neuropathy from the autoimmune disease I have. After chemo I have severe neuropathy in my hands and feet, all the way up to my knees. It's not pleasant, but so grateful I'm able to still get around. God bless you and I am praying for you with your upcoming surgery.

      Oh my goodness! what timing! So glad that worked out and pray that they dry. Maybe you could also stick them in the dryer? I will be thinking about both you and your mother as she starts her treatment. Not sure what chemo she will be doing, but if it's the same one as mine have her eat ice chips (like as much as she can throughout the day) and do a baking soda and salt water rinse a couple times a day. That was the best thing to help the mouth sores.

    I wrapped my hands and feet in ice packs in 2019 for pactitaxol. I was so afraid that something would prevent me from getting in every dose of chemo because I am so high risk. The only thing I got was a tingle in the tip of one finger which settled down after a few months.
    None of the nurses were particularly supportive of me carrying in my esky of ice and packs - don’t think they believed it would work. But, I got through all my treatments without any problems.
    Hope you continue to go well xx

      Do you know what chemo combo he is getting? Yes, leave them on the entire time he is getting the chemo that causes neuropathy. I had a combo of three chemos and it was my first one that I would need to wear them for. It was like two hours. I would wear the first set until they got warm, take maybe a 5 minute break and then put the new pack in for the remainder of the time.

    Do you use them throughout the 7 hours?

      Only the two-three hours that’s I’m on the chemo. The rest of the 7 hours is time where they do premeds and fluids

    How do you manage to not get sick my wearing all of these cold therapy stuff? I figured if i tried this i would get sick and then that would ruin the chemo right?

    • @melaniefostersnavely
      @melaniefostersnavely  4 месяца назад +1

      I make sure to keep a warm blanket on me so that the rest of me is cozy. And getting sick doesn't effect the chemo. It's just a yucky side effect of it. I nver got sick on actual infusion days because they pump you full of premeds first that help you to not get sick. I didn't start feeling nausea until 3 days after treatment.

      @@melaniefostersnavely thank you, just to confirm, you start wearing the cold therapy stuff before the infusion starts correct? How many minutes before the infusion starts do you start to wear the cold therapy items?

    How is this supposed to work with neuropathy? I have it from one of my medical conditions. My neuropathy is hyper sensitive to cold.

    • @melaniefostersnavely
      @melaniefostersnavely  8 месяцев назад +1

      It’s more so to prevent neuropathy, by freezing your hands and feet it restricts blood flow so the chemo doesn’t impact your hands and feet as much as it would without the cold. Once the neuropathy is there it doesn’t effect it much but yes could make you more sensitive to the cold. The two fingers that got effected by me not using the gloves still have issues and don’t like the cold either

    May I ask how long one pack of ice pack last during infusion?

      I used one pack for 30 minutes or so and then switched out for a new one.

      @@melaniefostersnavely So one pack won’t last an hour ? I think my mom’s infusion will be 2 hours. Will the gloves one last longer ?

    I don’t know off the veracity of this. I did read that cold pads on the head could result in some cancer cells not being killed due to the lower blood flow during the therapy. I hope that isn’t true. How do you find using the cold gloves and socks? Maybe check with your oncologist?

    • @melaniefostersnavely
      @melaniefostersnavely  8 месяцев назад

      My oncologist recommended, I think if I had a brain tumor maybe they would have recommended otherwise but as that wasn’t an impacted area I think it was ok.

      It should be working still, it’s good for a year from what they had told me. It may not apply until checkout though; so it night not show up until you get to the very last step.
