A Reminder to Not Avoid the Hard Emotions Packing For Surgery

- I really struggled the day we needed to pack for surgery and as much as I try to avoid the hard emotions it’s also important to feel them and address them when needed. Surgery is scheduled for the 11th. It will be a long, extensive surgery and we welcome all the prayers and vibes. For me, for the doctors steady hands, and for peace for Babe and my family as they wait.
Melanie, it’s easy for all of us to comment but today I am at a loss for words. As a retired nurse get rid of all the cancer or as much as you can. You’re a young beautiful loving woman with an incredible family. Looks don’t matter being healthy and happy and with your loved ones matter. I always keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. It’s a rude adjustment but in no time you’ll be rocking your pretty eye patches. So many prayers, positive thoughts, love headed to you and family. Let us know what we can do to help you. Stay strong precious you have an army behind you.

We ask that you put the team you choose for the surgery and that you give her doctors wisdom and guide their hands as they work. We ask that when they get in that they will be able to get more of the tumor than they thought and that she will have a quick and miraculous recovery so she can cuddle and nurture her little one. Melanie I don't know how I'd cope in your situation either, so my heart goes out to you. It's easy for people to say "You'll be OK", but as monumental as this is, you will learn to cope and deal with it, and your beautiful baby will love you regardless. Dear Melanie, I know you may be worried about appearance after this but from my own life my mother was my angel, my hero. Scars and all she was so beautiful. Your little child will feel the same way. My heart goes out to you. This time late year I was one month away from what was likely to be a 9- hour surgery and I remember the terror. I feel very much at the moment that we shouldn’t have to put on a brave face or crack a joke. It’s not just an eye. It’s your eye.

Praying hard for you. My son lost his eye to a piece of metal they tried to save it but the damage was so bad. When it started drying up he ask them to remove it. We went to a great doctor in Nashville, Tn and had him make a hand painted eye. My son designed his with a gear and wrench. That baby girl needs her mama so hang in there and watch her grow up and make you a grandma.❤

Melanie, I truly don't know what to say. Nothing sounds adequate, nothing sounds close to match what you are going through. All I can offer is prayers, but I believe that is enough. I'm lifting you up and begging for this surgery to be a success, to be tolerated well, for your recovery to be easy and most of all, for you to have peace in your heart. This is a tough one. This is a sad one. I hope that by surgery time tomorrow, you have cried enough and given yourself a positive talk. Please know how loved you are and how God is being flooded with prayers for you.

Just a little fyi, before her surgery about 10 days ago she responded to me on IG when I asked if she would be updating us at some point, she said yes, when she is feeling stronger in recovery she will do an update, she said she will be in ICU for several days then when moved to a room to recover she will update WHEN she feels strong enough. So let's give her time & space, I am sure she is going through alot it's only been 1 week.

Hi Melanie ❤… learning to live with one eye is going to definitely take some time. Your brain is being retrained! I only have sight in one eye. Please know that you will eventually adapt to this and function just fine. Depth perception can be a challenge but you will figure out what things to stay away from… like parallel parking! You got this Melanie! You are SO brave putting your emotions out there! You will help others dealing with issues, similar or other ones, with your documentation. When this part is done, you will eventually come out on the other side and on a healing journey. Melanie, you're one of the bravest people out there and you are wise beyond your years. By far the best thing you can do when facing something so traumatic is to give yourself the grace to feel those emotions. That is incredibly healthy. I think that there have been some blessings in all of this, the fact that they made a quick diagnosis and took action right away. And that your beautiful little girl is healthy. I trust that you are in the talented and experienced hands of some of the best medical experts in the country and, most of all, in the hands of God. I hope it helps you to know that we are all praying for you and your family. Faith has seen me through some very dark days and I know that it will be a help to you.
