So, so beautiful - I’m ready for a whole album of Brandi/Rufus duets 🙏🏾🌹🌹
A whole album of Sandy Denny covers perhaps...
Omg, YES, Allison!!
@@AllisonRussell God yes! That'd be amazing. Put yourself in the mix too. 😊
we are too!!!
Me too.
I cannot believe there are not millions of views of this video. Simply incredible, the two of them together.
People are too busy on tik tok watching stupid human tricks
Simply divine
Like...WoW!!!
I've watched this countless times myself....(but I can only click the like button once).
Man oh man oh man you got that right!
If this isn’t THE most beautiful sound!
And why don’t they have this on an album???
I am at a loss for words,. It's technically perfect, but it is so much more, and I cannot find the words. It's as if their voices are connected directly to their souls. Heavenly, beautiful, perfect.
Who knows... Maybe it is just Divine...
Roof Dawg throws his head back like a wolf howling at the moon and Brandi's eyes are those of a celestial deity glowing back ✨
Yes! Well said! Magical.
Beautifully so!
So true! That was so beautiful, and beautifully performed! ❤️
Every time Mr. Wainwright opens in mouth... I exhale & swoon. Brandi is the icing on the cake.
Oh...and Brandi Carlile's voice is butter. They were meant for duets. I would love to see/hear more of these two together ❤
Yes!
Forget the CALM subscription..., I relax to this beautiful duet. This is perfection! I have been a fan for a long time. I am a nurse and you two have no idea how much you have helped my stress and fatigue. I listen to you both nightly. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Nice photo Jenny L. You also have my wife's name. 🙉
Pure Irish Cream Sweet Butter made from happy cows
I see Rufus, I like it, I save it, I replay it. It's just what I do.
Same; never ceases to amaze and inspire
My go to song after a very long shift. Its how I release all that I've experienced. Thank you!
Haha same here
Pardon me while I never stop weeping
Right? Here's a tissue...
I'm not crying, you're crying....
You made me reflected.... and sobbed.... time is actually passing by fast. Would undo regrets if could reset time... but... love and be loved, y’all
same here
Each artist’s talent goes without saying, but both shine just a little brighter when duetting.
Amen 🙏
I truly hope these two keep making music together from time to time. When they hit that first harmony, I swear to God, I wept. It was just so fucking beautiful.
Same here...it’s magic..
I think this is my favorite version of this song. Brandi’s voice is beautiful
Be sure to thank that which lives within you and allows you to openly weep at such beauty. Never take that for granted.
I am so defensive of Sandy’s songs, especially the older ones with Fairport. More than anything, this one, and “Farewell, Farewell.” If you’re going to cover Sandy, you’d better bring it. On the other hand, this song (and again, “Farewell, Farewell”) is one I always want my favorite women vocalists to cover, those with the voice and soul to do it justice.
I would have been happy enough with Brandi alone covering this incredibly beautiful song. But add Rufus to the mix, and you get something even more special, more transcendent. They did Sandy proud here.
Have you seen Rufus perform at the British folk awards doing this song in honour of Sandy?
Incredible performance
Their voices tap into something so visceral that it's hard to even describe it. I sometimes forget that I can feel that deeply, until I listen to Rufus again...
Two of the purest voices out there.
We couldn't agree more!
Gee that guy is a powerhouse. Stunning duet
Magic. Like, what do you say? When Rufus sings, hearts fall on the floor.
Oh & his father... none better🙏
Wow, sitting here thinking about the great beauty humans are capable of producing. Truth is beauty and beauty truth and that's all I need to know right now.
I have never heard RW sound so beautiful and he always sounds beautiful.
Brandi is perfection.
Breathtaking. For 5 minutes and 49 seconds I was able to completely forget when I am.
Takes me back to "17", back to Janice Ian, and Rita Collidge's "Close the Window..." all wrapped in Phoebe Snow's "Poetry Man."
... and a bit of Joni, too.
Perfect
Agree, sitting on a blanket in the FSU stadium listening to Rita and Kris K. for me at 16yo. So glad I found these artists in the last decade.
Thx for these 3 new names
I first heard it sung by Judy Collins in the early 70's.
Thrilling and magical cover. I think I felt Sandy Denny’s ghost smiling down on us
Aw that's sweet
Songs need to be sung to stay alive, and this is a very good way to keep this song alive.
Back again. Undoubtably the best thing to come out of the pandemic.
can't say that when i first heard this song in '68 at 19] people would still be covering it when i was 71. the duet sections here are breathtaking. ps: rufus and family have worked with richard thompson and family....which connects to sandy
Judy Colins, right?
@@timothychildress8313 that's correct. judy's in late 68. sandy's version with fairport in the summer of 1969. ps: just found this quote from linda thompson, " She was so young when she wrote it but it pinpoints exactly the feelings I have now, at 71. It also resonated strongly with me when I was a teenager. Love and loss portrayed so sweetly. A song for all ages.”
I didn't know about the Wainwright/Thompson connexion--that makes this all the more moving. Thank you for letting us know!
Brandi Carlile has worked with Richard Thompson as well - pretty much anyone who is anyone in folk music has at some point.
Squeezes my heart with feeling of melancholy. Beautiful mix of vocal expression and instruments of a beautiful work of lyric poetry.
Rufus is such a Powerhouse
I can’t believe this hasn’t melted a million hearts.
Rufus, I have loved your voice for a long time, just discovering Brandi...this is absolutely beautiful, made my heart smile. Love from St. Lou
Musicians , christ, they are something else.
I wish I could give this song 10 stars......
They both blew me away. Ridiculously beautiful
Mystified why this is not viral
This is a classic example of the whole being much greater than the sum of its parts. I feel such gratitude for the spirit that allows me to wander and stumble into such treasures.
Two of my favorite artists on the PLANET!!!!!!! 🤘🏼🥲💖 Big love, you two!!!!
I’ve loved Sandy Denny, the writer of this gorgeous song, for a life time.Rufus and Brandi, pay great justice to this ethereal song…Thank you from my heart ♥️🇨🇦🇺🇦
Sandy Denny wrote this song when she was 17 years old. It's possible that she wrote a song before this, but this is certainly the first one she put before the public.
Love!
My favorite song. Played Judy Collins version at my mother's burial.
@@tao4mike I’m thinking I want that played at my funeral as well, it’s gorgeous
How tf can someone write something this profound at 17
And Brandi's wife is her videographer!! Beautiful, beautiful tune and performance! Thank you, Rufus and Brandi and all involved!
Love it! Love when Brandi does duets! Brings me back to my Judy Collin days....
Brandi is such a class act.
Oh my........Absolutely gorgeous. So perfect. So, so perfect. More, please. More.
what a celebration
Who knows where the time goes🤷♀️? Ohh man beautiful.
Well that made 2020 far better. Also I really love that the musicians got a prominent credit at the end.
can't find the words........pass me that tissue pls , so beautiful , perfect harmonies
Stunning - a gorgeous version of one of my favorite songs. I knew Rufus had a connection to this song, evident in his singing! Brandi does the most amazing covers (not to take away from her also brilliant song writing) so this is a great combo.
Everyone gets an A+ here.
I found this because I happened to click on a Martha Wainwright ad for her upcoming Liverpool Philharmonic concert. What a joy to come across this in the bargain. Man, what voices. And the other musos!
Such a beautiful collaboration of Carlisle/Wainwright and talented musicians. Soul soothing arrangement...
definition of a perfect duo
Judy collins did a pretty good rendition of this song
WOW!!! HOLY WOW!!!!! THAT WAS MAGIC....
I'M SPEECHLESS
Brandi and Rufus are like they have the same soul.. love to see and hear them sing.
This reflects the incredible voice that Sandy Denny had.. none of this over theatrical vocal bollox.
I think Sandy Denny would love this.
Huge Rufus fan, so I was very excited to hear this when I spotted it... then Carlisle opens her mouth. Shocking.
I never thought I’d say this but I’m really digging Brandi singing new songs that different writers have written....it pushes her..in the best direction.
Sandy Denny’s song. Late 60s/early 70s. 🥰
Would love to hear Brandi sing something Irish like On Raglan Road. She could own that song ☘
Hard to beat the Twin Brothers❤
@@yourturn777 oh, hey, I agree 100. But, these little side projects are making her explore her voice and find new sounds.., it’s cool
Stunning version of a Sandy Denny classic - a special collaboration indeed.
Absolutely gorgeous rendition of one of my favorite Fairport Convention songs!
WOW! I was not Expecting this. I MEAN...Sorta but nOTTTT....WOW.... Brandi is like EmmyLou.....LIKE A NICE WINE PAIR. WOW Y'all.....Perfect way to wake today!!! THANK YOU!!!!! Stay safe n blessed
Just gorgeous. So deeply beautiful. I don't understand how anyone could dislike this -- I guess 33 people wouldn't know beauty if it hit them in the face.
Saw her at bourbon and beyond. Killer band and a very talented woman
It's wonderfull to listen to you two God bless the Wonders of music. Always in my heart. Love saves.
Wow wow wow wow!!! Liquid gold vocals!!! So soothing, complete with chills. I'm blown away by these two storytellers, voices and duet. Amazing. 💗💗
Ahhhh!! Sweetness... serenity...
I have listened to this so many times I have lost count. Just . . . . . simply . . . . . wonderful!!!
Just gonna hit send all and share this masterpiece
Just loop it endlessly
Beautiful
Right now there are almost 50,000 views of this video. I'm probably about 10,000 of those views because I can't stop listening to it. Brandi and Rufus' voices seem like they were made to compliment each other and they truly do this beautiful song justice. Hoping it'll be released for purchase. It needs to be permanently in my music collection.
Oh geez glad I'm not the only one! I've been sharing it with everyone can't stand to think of them missing out on this amazing duet
Great performance and it makes me really miss those many magical nights of live music at eTown, plus times long ago seeing Sandy, Strawbs, Fotheringay and Fairport Convention. Don't know why this song was chosen, or by who, but thanks to you all for such a treat!
Wow 👏
December 2022- always loved this song . Of course , the talent of Rufus and Brandi is undisputed . Their voices together… sublime !!!
This is a great cover of Sandy Denny's song, but still doesn't rival her own orginal version. So great to see her work still being covered 40 years on, but it's always worth revisiting the orginals by Sandy.
At last I have found someone who shares my opinion!
I love the Sandy Dennis version and this one as well. Eva Cassidy also did wonderful versions. Sandy Denny wrote the song in 1966 and first recorded it with the Strawbs in 1967, followed a few years later with Fairport Convention.
It's not a competition. The song stands on its own.
@@danarzechula3769 I never said it was a competition, just that I personally prefer Sandy's own original version. As noted, I like this one too!
I just listened to Sandy Denny's version (and Eva Cassidy's as well, and I love Eva) but I thought they both pale compared to this. This is luscious. Different strokes...
Why doesn't this have thousands of views already?
Now it does... we just needed it to be out there for a day. :) Thanks for your support!
Millions and millions
wow wow these two are magical together just beautiful
What a duo! Saw both of these artists perform at the Seattle Symphony over the years. Incredible, moving experiences every time. Love to you both
Sandy would be round of you First listen to this in 1971
So so beautiful, feel every note in my soul
Two of the most unique and divine voices together...... what a gift we get from this. I love this.
Nice cover. Best song ever.
Stunning. That's all. Simply stunning.
@Rufus Wainwright Thank you. It isn't often that 'we' get a reply from the artist. I will definitely remember this. :-)
@Rufus Wainwright Good Lord, I didn't realize you had the same mother as I did!! I was taught the same thing. And it's such an easy thing to practice. Unfortunately, too many people don't live by that. They hide behind their keyboards and type things they would never say to your face. Regrettably, today, they probably would. As my mother used to say, "If you can't say anything nice, say nothing". Breast your cards! What a pleasure to converse with you.
Two of my all time favorite artists together!
WOW !! WOW !!! it gave me goosebumps!!! Beautiful duet by 2 great performers !!!
Can we have more? These amazing artists making it happen. Thank you.
That was incredibly beautiful. It has made me cry. I haven’t even had time to the lyrics yet; I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the music - the way the voices blended, the arrangement of the instruments and how they were played with perfect expertise. I grew up listening to the Carpenters, and it has kinda spoilt me. I expect perfection in arrangement and music and voices, perfect harmonies yet all the depth and rawness of emotion. Most music can’t tick all boxes. This, however, exceeded everything. Applause to all involved! I hope to find the song on music apps. Just...breathtakingly beautiful.
I LOVE THIS TRACK im 61 and only heard it last year played by David gray on Radio 2 live lounge i thought it was an amazing performance but this brings tears to my eyes when i think of those i have lost over the years !!!
Exquisitely beautiful and fabulous rendition‼💯👌👏🙏🙌🙏 WOW such a magical duet!!! thank you sooo much Rufus and Brandi for this precious Christmas gift!!! ❤🎄💚
Just magical.
OMG. how did I stumble here!
Just listening to her w/Gibb.
Keep stumbling, she’s so worth it
tears rolling down my face... so evocative, such a great cover!!
Could listen all day long
Wow!
I have watched this bout ten times since I first discovered it a couple days ago. Wow!
I watch it almost every morning and it makes me cry...I need it...purging tears....
That was beautiful!
Omg! Heard this on random play while half sleep, and thought it was a long lost duet between Jane Siberry and kd lang. Love this performance so much...
Thank you for recording this.
the loveliest thing I have heard in a long time...
I never heard of these two RUclips found them I could listen to this song forever so sad n yet beautiful
this is what heaven sounds like
So, so beautiful.
This song is great and she absolutely crushes Soundgardens searching w my good eye closed. Epic asf
Totally agree she's the best
I've always loved this song. Nina Simones version will make you weep.
Stunning
Omg.
Perfect.
From the incredible perfect pitch vocals to the sweet sound of every single instrument..I have only ever loved the original..This changed that.
Blown away.❤
Omg, this brought tears! Angelic, just like beautiful Eva was💙✨
Love this more than Rufus’ 2020 album
