You were born five years after poor Sandy died. I was lucky to see "the Lady" perform twice in 1974 in NY. It was nice to see Judy Collins perform this song at Wolf Trap quite a few years ago and recognize the greatness of Sandy. You did a great job on this song, and please perform more of Sandy's music and post.
You are so right. when I was in my teens back in the 70s I loved this song, but now I'm in my 60s and family members and friends have started leaving me this song resonates so much more. I mean, those first two lines of the song about the birds leaving and how do they know it's time to go just tears me up!
Most artists who cover Sandy Denny's masterpiece either smooth it out too much, add unnecessary embellishment or just lack the depth to sing it with the gravitas it needs. This one comes very close to nailing it. Very nicely done!
HI Alela, you voice is complementary of Sandy's. I am smitten by your looks. I think you should sing and be accompanied by the guitar. I can send you a demo of this song for you to review. Let me know. Bill

A beautiful rendition ❤
The age I'm at now just serves to remind me how much this song means.😥
This is a beautiful cover. Sandy would be proud of you.💙

Wonderful song. Beautifully sung and played
That is a beautiful version of a beautiful song.
One of the best covers I've ever heard... up there with Eve Cassidy's version and Sandy Denny's original... Frank Terry UK
This must be so difficult to sing...and you do it beautifully, Alela. This is gorgeous
A lovely cover of Sandy Denny’s song !
Beautiful. Peculiar strumming action of your right hand. Seems your thumb nail does all the work.
lovely version
Magnificent rendition of this beautiful song. Bravo 👌
Wonderful, just wonderful.
That was lovely. 👍
Beautiful
Beautifully haunting...just like Sandy
This is by far the best cover vocals for this song. Just awesome Alela!
N'oubliez jamais :
Alela Diane trop puissante
Wow, she really channelled Sandy Denny

Alela, when you go up to the B and then A try leaving the B and E string open. I think you'll like it.
