Rest in peace. Soon all the classic country musicians will be gone. Music is ageless, and when I hear an old song, I can bring back the feelings and memories of when I heard that song on the radio. Sad and happy.
Ferlin was a genuine person........... A fantastic soul and I'm thankful to have gotten to know him a little in the last five years of his life. this is the song I grew up loving. It reached in and touched the soul. There'll never be another one like Ferlin Husky and I'll sure miis him.
Since you've gone, Ferlin, the world is short one fine entertainer . I am included in the millions of people who now look back on their youth and remember you and your music with yearnings to return to better days. The impossibility of doing this is a part of this life as we well know. However, we do have our memories to transport us back to those wonderful days and we can hear your voice and remember the fun and friends, special friends, first loves and home. Rest in devine peace, Sir.
Ferlin will always be remembered for his music, the songs and his humour. Country music is here to stay has a special place in our hearts. We will miss you Ferlin.
I am glad that Ferlin finally got what he deserved by getting inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame while he could enjoy it. I watched Heart to Heart classics the last week and he was on there for only fifteen minutes and barely got started telling how he got started in the business he needs to be recognized more than what he has been in the last several years for his talent and contributions to country music.
I've heard Ferlin do several different version of this song, and this is my favorite. This recording of it is a master piece. His vocal performance here is amazing, very dynamic. We are lucky to have it. Thanks for posting.
I just found out we lost Ferlin Husky today. They just don't make em like that anymore. I have always been an older country fan and although I may sing newer songs, old country will always be my favorite. GBY Ferlin
I agree with all of those who wrote, this man had an amazing voice. This song gets better with age! I love to contrast this version with the one he did not too many years before he died. Both wonderful.!
I was lying on a beach in Ontario, Canada listening to my transister when I first heard this. I fabulous the charts were in those days. Ferlin Husky, Don Gibson, Faron Young, Marty Robbins. My, what poop people listen to today!
A beautfiul, historic piece of american popular music.Folks will be enjoyin' this song and Ferlin's wonderful voice for centuries. RIP, Ferlin Husky .- now too "Gone" but certainly not forgotten.
A true entertainer could make you laugh or could make you sit up and take notice with singing like this.Awesome it's a word often overused but not here he was AWESOME! We lost one of the "goodguys" rest in peace Ferlin.
Love his voice and the thing he doe's with his eye brow and i also love his laugh... never heard anyone with a laugh like ferlin ...one of the best singers in country but country was blessed with so much talent then unlike todays pop country.. i hate most of the new stuff..all sounds the same..
This is a great song. I remembered when I first heard it. I loved the lyrics and that voice, great combination. I am an African American who thinks the world of Ferlin Husky's talent.
Sorry to hear of Ferlin Husky's passing. He was truly one of the pioneers of Country & Western music. Ferlin, you gave us so much. We will miss you. To the C&W artists of today: Remember who set the table for you.
This song by Ferlin is a classic. We love all of his music. We met him years ago at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge in Nashville and he was very gracious to us. I like seeing Ferlin's alter ego, Simon Crum, with the goofy baseball cap on. Did Ferlin (as Simon) record some songs? It's hard to remember just who did what and when. Thanks for posting this. - Paula
What a treasure he was. I've always loved his voice. He was a handsome gentleman, too! I think the first time I heard him on the radio was a station out of Shreveport which I could pick up on my grandfathers upstairs radio n Marshall, TX. I must have been 10 or 11. I'll miss him.
bought the 45 in nems, liverpool in1957,always been one of my favourite sad slobberin' tearjerkers! watched him last week on ralph emery's rural tv show, shoot he's wearing as good as me! brian epstein gave me his follow up 45, Terrific Together. love to hear that sometime!
R.I.P. ..Ferlin.....Another of our great Country Legends is gone....There are hardly any remaining now.......Only the Pretenders and Imposters.....God Bless you Ferlin.
Who says that 13 is an unlucky number? For Ferlin Husky, it wasn't. This was the thirteenth #1 Country and Western hit in the Rock Era. It also went to #4 on the Top 40 charts. At that point, only Elvis Presley and Tennessee Ernie Ford had crossover #1 hits to the Top 40.
This is the tone of the songs I grew up listening to. I guess you would call it classic country because it was not as hillbilly as some others. It was the predecessor to early rock n' roll.
On this date in 1957 {Mar. 2nd} "Gone" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it would peaked at #4 and spent 27 weeks in the Top 100... Ranked 23rd on Billboard's Year-End Hot 50 Singles of 1968 chart... Reached #1 {for 10 weeks} on Billboard's Country chart & spent 27 in the Country Top 100... Actress Joey Heatherton's 1972 covered version peaked at #24... Ronnie McDowell reached #36 in 1980 on Billboard's Country chart...
This was big hit for Husky. Ironically, he grew up in a predominately Muslim community in southeast Missouri. His maternal grandfather was an imam in the community. Husky finished school with the thought of becoming an imam himself, but the chance to travel to France and study piano under Jan Paderewski presented itself, and he debuted as a soloist at the Musée de la Musique in 1949. His first recording was as a keyboard artist, with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Symphony.
@jbash1970 What I want to know is, who is the high hair dooed lady at the beginning of this video ? Is she Skeeter Davis ? Also, when you get to 0:59, who is this beautiful lady in the flowered shirt taking notes ? Do you know ?? Does anyone out there know ???
Who is that beautiful female background singer at the beginning of the song ?? Also, who is the woman at 1:01 ? Is that part of a movie or a video ?? Does anyone know ???
Now I'm not a singer, but even I can realize that this man's voice has exceptional range. Love the voice and the song.
Rest in peace. Soon all the classic country musicians will be gone. Music is ageless, and when I hear an old song, I can bring back the feelings and memories of when I heard that song on the radio. Sad and happy.

What a singer, what a voice, thanks for the pleasure.
This singer and this song are two of my favorites. This day marked the passing
of another great. Thank you Ferlin. May you rest in peace.
I am a sentimental fool from Jamaica, and just died every time I hear this song. I just can't stop playing it!
I am very happy that the time of my youth was the time when Ferlin Husky entertained us with his talent.

Visiting the Country Music Hall Of Fame,a few years ago, this song was featured as THE song that began "the Nashville Sound". Enough said.
