- This is a review of the Riedell Solaris with lots of action footage! Reviews and solid information on this boot is scarce, even though it's been out since 2016, so we thought it would be time well used to make a review for those looking to buy it! If you have any further question after watching it you can contact Medusa Skates and they will be able to give you more information and help you through the ordering process.
Note: For this boot, the experts seem to all agree that you need to order one half size down from your normal Riedell size!
Thanks for watching! Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up if you liked it, and subscribe for more skating content!

Question , you said its like skating on clouds.
Do you mean rica cloud wheels?
Oh ive only just started park skateing , im not a novic skater by far with 40+ years under my belt but transtion skating is new.
How do you go doing half pips and ramps drop in wuth jam plugs in .
I was terrified for you when you hit the park as ive ground a pair of stoppers in to oblivion in no time flat since moving over to park skating and doing heaps of toe stop stalls at the top of the ramp to then fakey and i dont know what the trick is called but its like a toe stop stall but i use my stoppers it get lift to air out so i can get a sidways bunny hop thing going once i hit the top of the ramp.
Id say less than 10 hrs and my stoppers are dead because im trying not to hit the coping hard just yet and just stoping befor i hit it as im waiting on some grind block because i dont want to snap a plate befor they get here. lol.
Love the technical breakdown. I'm trying to decide for my next pair of Derby skates whether I want a Solaris or a bont Parkstar (I'm for real a Riedell boot girl). Thank you!
Wow!!! So glad you love your Solaris. Great, detailed review that Im going to share. Also--- hot damn-- you are such a good skater! I need to learn your moves!
Medusa Skates, Thanks so much for your support! Next time I find myself in Austin I'll stop in and teach you something cool!
After buying some skates for my 14yr old.. I haven't found myself in a ring since I was her age...I remember using my older sisters Riddell flapovers when I went...so I ordered the new boot and got the skates on as we speak lacing them up....I love them and the new plate...cant wait until this Sunday to try them out....well time to bring her to Friday night skate...peace to all
Thank you for this video! I'm was thinking about adding these skates to my collection. They look super cool!
Sold 😂
Thanks for your review, your points really touched many things Im looking for!
Thanks! This video is packed with info for someone who is considering buying these boots.
Benjamin Hall, It was my pleasure! Thanks for subscribing to keep up with our other skate videos! I will be doing a more comprehensive review of this skate around the holidays!
Thanks for the video. Just what I was looking for. Mine arrive Monday. My current skates are bonts and I'm not a fan. Got the same plate too. Thanks for the review.
Hey, thanks for doing this and also addressing different types of skating throughout the review! VERY helpful. What other types of skates have you used?
Lovin the videos. Skates look great. I bought some Chaya Karma outdoor 'skatepark' skates but I just like the feel of a derby skate whether inside or outside.
Gregory Dickson, Thanks bro! Glad you're enjoying my content! I have noticed the Chaya skates are very popular in Europe with aggressive style quad skaters. I haven't tried them, but some big names I trust for Inline skate advice are using them. And I agree about the derby skate bit. You don't have to play derby to enjoy the benefits of skates built for. The greatest benefit is power transfer, which is universally needed for a good skating experience, imo! Hope you and Gwen doing well these days! Please tell her hello for me.
Love this! Such a cool video, cam angles were great

Great videos and your narration is superb. The Solaris's are definitely Dope however I am a intermediate 40 year old an bought a pair of Jackson mens competitors and they are terribly stiff and uncomfortable. Any tips to to lacing or breaking in I'd appreciate.
Can you help me? Trying to decide between Solaris and Bont Hybrid Carbon Boot - Your thoughts?
Love your videos! I just ordered mine. Thanks for detailed insightful review. Is the reactor pro one of your favorite plates ? I would like to see a video comparing it to the Arius platinum. Between the two which is your favorite?
I’m not a fan of the Arius personally.
Deez Skates do you have a preference of bearings ? I’m torn between the standard bones Swiss , the super Swiss 6 ball , or the bones Swiss ceramic. Is there other brands you suggest. You have some awesome footwork !
Given that I mostly skate outside these days I don’t really put too much into bearings. They’re going to get torn up and worn out. I buy whatever is on sale and skate them until they’re dead.
Thanks so much for making this video, three years later and there is still very little information about this skate (and the entire class of skates) available! Do you have a sense of what the differences are between the 495 and the Solaris? Does the 495 have similar shock absorption?
I'm a speed coach and my speed experience is quads so I'm typically wearing those over my inlines during practice. I'm working on getting used to the inlines. Bought the Atom Pros after watching your review ten times. Anyways, I'm looking at investing in a colorlab custom boot from Riedell and have always thought I was going to do a 595 because that has always been my dream boot from Riedell. But, after this video I'm wondering if the new features in the Solaris should make it my boot of choice to customize. Do you think it would stand up to the pounding it'll receive in speed practices and still be comfortable enough for skating sessions at the rink? I would also have my first boot without a big velcro strap across the front since I'm on a 125 right now. Wondering if I'll like the heel loop.
Aero,
I'm not real experienced with speed skating in quads, so I don't really know the specifics of the abuse quads take during training. I do know the Solaris is designed for roller derby and seem to handle it very well. Mine are very responsive while being the most comfortable quads I've owned. I've had some others from Riedell and Vanilla for jam and outdoor skating and these are better, imo. 595s are very nice and they were on the top of my list, but I ended up buying these instead. Glad I did.
Double D Skate Thanks for the reply. The Solaris is really growing on me. What’s the lining like? It isn’t thick is it?
I wouldn’t say it’s very thick, but it is thicker than the other models I’ve used (395/595/811/911). The thing I like about the Solaris is the heat moldable quarters. They’re softer on the inside than the others, but are stiffer and have better power transfer.
Very much appreciated for this!! The company should pay you for such great advertisement lol
Awesome video! I'm sold on this boot!
What wheels are you rolling on in this video..no mention of it. New to outdoor skating but not new to skating and looking to get the Solaris ...your video here cinched it for me.
Thanks ...found your info below.
What’s sizing like compared to your regular shoe size.
excellent review, thanks!
Hey David,
Do you know if you still have the kanga tan premium leather even though you have the moxi purple suede? I was thinking about doing the same thing you did but with the blue moxi suede but I don’t want to sacrifice quality/performance for appearance. Thanks and keep it up!
Unfortunately, the Kanga tan is only available in black. Once you change colors you’re working with regular leather or suede leather.
Could you do a review on the Reactor plates? I'm considering getting them but I don't know the difference between the Neo and Pro. Pro just looks a little lighter and shinier, not sure that's work +$130 from the Neo
Unfortunately, I know very little about the Neo. I’ve never used it, and the plate I had before this one is the Rival, which has long since been discontinued.
Thanks!
What size plate is that 725? On a 10 boot looks like?
I saw there were several different Solaris models, don't mind me asking which skate did you go with? Thanks!
Spiritisalive1
To my knowledge, there is only one model of the Solaris boot. When you say model, are you perhaps referring to the entire skate build?
I had this boot custom made from the Moxi Taffy suede and mounted to a powerdyne reactor pro plate.
@@DeezSkates I apologize for delay in response...I think that's what it is. I saw on the Medusa website they had the Solaris Pro, Solaris Sport, Solaris Super Pro (Arius plate), then of course Color Lab... But I was mainly referring the boot. I didn't know if there were differences in the boot? But I guess it's all the same boot then?
Cool review!
Just found this video and have to ask....what wheels are those???
MystiqueRisingSun
Those are Atom Poison Savant wheels!

@@DeezSkates Thank you so much! I've never seen them in purple before. All I can ever find are the green and pink ones. Apparently I just need to dig a little further into my favorite skate sites They are a bit smaller than I normally use, but I've been looking at them for my current set up. Changing my 5th pair of skates into outdoor dance skates. Here goes nothing! :)
@@MystiqueRisingSun
The regular Atom Poison wheels only come in green and pink. The Poison Savants come in five colors and have a thinner tire, making them lighter!
@@DeezSkates Thank you! I've seen the regular Poisons in only pink on a lot of different skate sites (green seems to be the more popular color for them)....but I never thought of looking on Amazon for the Savants. The sad part is that I've used Amazon for laces, toe stops, skate tools, and plates, Even just switched one of my rink set ups to the Moxi gummy wheels from Amazon that I got about a week ago (wood rink, but I swear they never clean the thing. Even with the gummy wheels I still slide a bi). LOL
You skate so nicely
Are your toes supposed to fill the front? I have some riedell speed skates but I feel like they might be a little too big or could it be the shape of the boot?
Your toes should fill the front, yes. But you do not want them to have any pressure or feel scrunched either.
Is that Suede or Leather? I am looking at the form to choose mine.
Adam Harness
I contacted a shop in Austin Texas called Medusa Skates. They spoke with Riedell and got them to use the Suede Purple from the Moxi Lolly Taffy skates, which is not an option on the color lab order form. It’s easy to order, but you should probably either have a shop do it or call Riedell directly and discuss what you’d like done with them.
@@DeezSkates Oh cool. It looks like the form from Riedell has suede in most of those colors. Pretty cool man
Adam, take heed that the purple suede listed on Riedell's order form is NOT this purple, but a much darker (almost grey color). Their moxi shop and also the custom figure skate orders demonstrate many more shades than are available in the roller skate color lab! But you have to request the other shades specifically, otherwise you will just get what's on the basic order form.
With this video being 5 years old it makes me wonder how are these skates now?
They are good skates still, but after this experience if I could give any advice I would say, go through a shop. Find a good skate technician in a shop who has a good reputation for mounting skates. Do not let a factory mount your skates. Ever.
That toe guard is sweet
Hey!!! My daughter just started jr derby. I showed her this video. We cant find ur skates. Please state the ENTIRE spec for ur skate so we can order them. I saw that they are moxi pirple. Aside from that, tell me every detail. She wants YOUR skate. Did u use colorlab? Is the original black? Is that a powerdyne plate?
gospelevans, They are a custom order. They are color lab, but the purple from the colorlab is not the same. I contacted a shop in Austin Tx called Medusa Skates who made this custom order from Riedell using Moxi Lolly (Taffy Purple) Suede. The plate is a Powerdyne Reactor Pro. I will warn you.. they're not cheap, so I hope your daughter is very serious about skating. Haha. If you want the easiest route to get these, call Medusa Skates and ask for Glitter. I bet if you mention this video and these skates she will remember exactly what to order!
@@DeezSkates what model of the solaris skate are they?
@@DeezSkates i looked into the solaris and i get it now. There is only one solaris boot. Its not like moxi which has five or more difft boots. Ur boot is a custom solaris. For $100 more, (about $500 just for the boot), u made the the solaris fly. The wheels, bearings, and plate was extra. The skate is totally custom-not just the plate and wheels. Gotcha
Exactly! I ordered the boot in my selected color and texture (leather or suede), and then selected a plate, Wheels, and bearings. Hope that helps you!
@@DeezSkates yes, bruh, ur skate is over a G ($1000). Thats why it behaves so well. She already has three pairs of skates. One derby and two inlines. Im gonna get her a split beach bunny (half peach half lavender) pair.
I will get her a good pair in high school.
What size wheels are you using in this video?
The Poison Savant wheels here are 59x38mm
How well does the suede hold up? Have they stretched or lost shape?
These have held up just as well as any other leather skates I’ve had from Riedell. I haven’t noticed any stretching outside of typical break in behavior.
Deez Skates Thank you. I’m ordering mine this week. Now to get some Wicked Scott’s to roll on. Man that guy’s work is in high demand.
Never mind found this video 😂
I am on the precipice of a major skate upgrade....I already love riedell...and I like those boots...I honestly think your review has almost completely made up my mind!
Also I can't believe the surfaces you were skating on...I thought for sure you'd just get tripped up many different times...but you rolled right over it! I pretty much only skate on a rink...but there are some nice walking paths around here that could prove very fun with an old set of yuck wheels....or even a brand new set of cheap ones.
What do you recommend for wheels when skating outside like that?
I use Atom Poison and Poison Savant wheels for outdoor. They're a hybrid wheel so also great on worn rink floors that lack the stickiness of a new coat.
This guy can just skate point blank
Ridell need to Spencer him
Dam your floatn
I'm considering moving from Blue Streaks to Solaris. I know the Solaris supposedly run large, but so do the Blue Streaks. So I was wondering if you knew anything about how those two models compare- should I get the same size as my Blue Streaks or go a half size down? I play derby and need a snug fit, but I have no skate shop nearby, so everything has to be bought online.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I don’t know enough about the Blue Streak to give any advice. I’m fairly sure they’re the same width in the heel and I know that they do not have the same ball measurements. The Solaris is a C last so it’s got a narrow heel with a wide ball. I normally wear a men’s 9 US size and got a 8.5 in the Solaris. My fit is perfect. But the blue streak is too narrow for me in the ball.. I would contact a reputable shop like Medusa Skates for help. The owner was very knowledgeable when I ordered mine from them.
Looks like male moxis
They are in fact made with the same leather used to make the purple Moxi Lolly boots. I had them special ordered!
Where can I buy a pair of these or just the boots
