      Maybe he’s including the regionals and sanctionals, as well as other events like wodapollooza and team events. There’s an element of narcissism in the top 20, and Brent has his fair share of that. This is a guy that has molded the “professor” moniker, while being an accountant. He’s a personality that CrossFit needs right now.

    I don’t do hyrox weekly. But the reason I’ve done the competitions is because I’m an average athlete that will never get to any CrossFit competition. 1 change that I think would be amazing is if CrossFit held a hyrox style competition a bunch of times throughout the year. I say style not as in running 8k but as in a set of WODS with equipment stations where you can get 10,000 people through a WOD in an hour or so. You could have the RX and scaled divisions like hyrox has. That would be super cool to have something for the amateurs like me that want to do a comp 2-3 times a year

    @mlanwehr 16 дней назад +13

    I’m not entirely sure if Hiller is that out of touch with major sports or if the point of this video was to mislead the viewers into believing that CF is the anomaly and overly concerned with safety. But an ENORMOUS focus of the players union in the 4 major US sports is centered around player safety. It’s the reason the NFL has fewer preseason games and limited OTAs, it’s the reason there’s a concussion protocol before rejoining the field of play. It’s why you can wear a visor in the NHL and a jaw guard in the MLB. Player safety is always at the forefront of the players union, it’s literally one of their only jobs. It’s a weird flex to try and shit on someone for caring about the safety of the athletes in the sport you love. But hey, some of still wish they wore leather helmets in the NFL

      NHL visors and NFL helmets make An actual difference to safety

    • @mlanwehr
      @mlanwehr 14 дней назад

      @@JAGwerkz They aren’t safer, why? - because Hiller’s boy Will Leahy got injured doing them? I get it, if I was a Mayhem Athlete and Froning got hurt on a step down I’d be pissed too and looking for any explanation on how this could happen. What happened to Will, with such high hopes of qualifying for the Games, is truly unfortunate but don’t get it twisted he was the outlier in this case - compare that to the good ol’ bounding days where a number of athletes tearing their Achilles at a competition was more the norm than the exception.
      If the alternative is doing a 40in jump down and a rash of athletes twist their ankle on the landing, then what? The goal of all of this isn’t to eliminate the risk of injury but to mitigate it. The same way a you can still get a hockey stick under a visor and concussions are a weekly occurrence in the NFL. Step downs are moving the sport in a safer more sustainable direction for athletes.

      HYROX is FANTASTIC! I love running, and I chose to go to Anaheim for my first HYROX instead of competing in the CF semifinals, won my age group, flew to Nice France to compete in the world championship where I came in seventh. It was the most amazing trip. 4000+ competitors to go for niece. It was absolutely incredible meeting so many wonderful people from all over the world. Friday night lights doesn’t give you that feeling! Hyrox is making a lot more money by hosting worldwide events for the every day person. I love going to my box every day, but the competition for the open/quarters/semis are once a year. As someone who likes to compete, how do I fill that void? Thank God, I heard of HYROX! And I’ve seen Hunter up close on two occasions recently, and he looks like a freaking beast! He was a beast when I knew him back in OCR days, CrossFit it was a blip for him, and Hyrox rewards the taller athlete and the athlete who is a good runner (Hunter). Just like Spartan racing, someone could beat you through an obstacle, but if you could run, you could catch them and pass them and ultimately beat them in the competition. I will end by saying cross that makes you better at everything else and it’s a great methodology. Thanks to GG. But Hyrox is a ton of fun and it is not easy. Have you looked at the weights on that sled push and that sled pull?

    I think Bill's achilles blow out could have been triggered by the jump and landing of the rope climbs in that workout. If we're really talking safety, dropping from the top shouldn't be PFFA approved. Oh and btw... no hyrox athletes could just show up at a crossfit comp and do well next weekend... but throw a competitive crossfit athlete into a hyrox comp tomorrow and they'd be at the top.

  • @reneortiz5965
    @reneortiz5965 16 дней назад +4

    It’s an interesting argument with the will leahy injury. You can say the box step down was the cause of his injury but you can’t neglect the multiple variables.
    For each rope climb he would jump off from the top of the rope (15’). That is a hell of an impact on his achilles over time. They probably should have put rule on the drop. This is probably the biggest factor of his injury.
    Another is the impact of his achilles from the previous events.
    Recovery, is another. His body probably wasn’t ready for these works back to back and maybe should have rolled out and
    mobilized more.
    Either way he was the only athlete that we know of that injured his achilles up until the 3rd event. So we cant just blame the event and focus on safety just based on his injury when no other athlete was impacted.

How easy the top guys make CrossFit look and how high the bar is set continuously gets higher and higher. People progress through CrossFit but then compare to other people and be like I’m still “at the same level” when their progression has been just as much, if not more, than those of the top people. Just my guess, but CF has had so much exposure that most people have already decided if they’re into it or not. Hyrox is new and I think can appear to be more accessible for your average fitness enthusiast (lots of similarities with Spartan, Tough Mudder). CrossFit also doesn’t host lots of events open to the public the way Hyrox does, so they’re kind of apples and oranges. I may come back and add or edit this because I’m still forming this thought… but I think the business models are a little different and lots of it comes down to Hyrox being a new unknown thing to many people whereas CF has been around a decade and a half on a world wold, highly visible level.

      What I've picked up is that it's the same single test/event/challenge performed at one venue under slightly different conditions (weather) - this means that setup and equipment acquired for the athletes is uniform across Hyrox events worldwide. The Crossfit games are a lot more complex when it comes to equipment, setup, location and events, weather, and even spectator experience - which differs based on moving between outdoor and indoor venues.

The nascent athlete organization tries to eek out power and influence the sport by making spurious claims that the sport is unsafe in this way or that. See! That's why our organization is needed! • @marlows47

    Brent is more right than you are and its a weird issue to take. Should football players wear helmets or the leather straps they used to wear? How about fields... Should they be grass or grippy turf? Safety is and always will be paramount.
    Furthermore your point at the end literally highlights why its so weird you place emphasis on the CrossFit Games meaning so much to the CrossFit ecosystem. I signed two doctors up this week. They have both heard about CrossFit from other people at the hospital that I train. They didnt sign up sooner because they thought they were not capable of doing whatever CrossFit is. The Games is what can be done with CrossFit, obsession, and time. Not everyone cares about anything related to the CrossFit Games season and the guy that inspired the doctors to come in is a 49 year old doctor that has priorities to move well and live longer and healthier, not Tia or Adler or Lowen.

    Calling HYROX "CardioFit" is a fine initial reaction. But take a closer look at the stations. Can the average male runner push a 152kg sled? No.
    I've done CrossFit for years, but right now I'm training for a HYROX event to test my fitness in a different way.
    Comparing the media created by HYROX to that by CrossFit is also interesting. HYROX is way ahead.

    I’ve said it before, but I think CF should have a subsidiary competition for those who didn’t make the games. Every year you have good enough names who didn’t make the cut for whatever reason.
    Of course people would watch a comp with Self, Mertens, Koski etc.
    Would it be profitable? Who knows.
    You could make the Games top 30 even, if you wanted the subsidiary comp to be a higher calibre.
    In general though, what I’m saying is CrossFit need to take more ownership in providing the opportunities for athletes throughout the season.
    How can they expect a sport to grow when it’s a once per year comp and people can move as out at Open/QF/SF for a variety of reasons, and that’s CF writing them off till the next season.
    CrossFit wants to grow, and yet it allows third parties to control the media, entertainment, the merchandise, and the off season comps.
    I don’t get it.

    Andrew, dig your content but I think there is a bigger topic here. There is the majority for whom CF is a HEALTH/FITNESS methodology and, MAYBE, once a year competition (The Open). THAT is the core and essence of CF.
    THEN you have the minority we will call the ELITE athletes trying to make it to the CF Games and other prestigious off-season competitions. Trying to make a living through CF competitions and 'branding.'
    You have CF health/fitness (majority) and CF sport (elite minority).
    Rather than write an essay on how CF could/should manage/promote/improve BOTH . . . I will leave it up to you, others and CF. Personally, I think CF as we knew it is dead thanks to the woke crowd that pushed Glassman out, and woke private equity that moved in.
